How I Give Myself A Manicure At Home

- Hi Everyone!
So the oneeee request I consistently get is: "can you film a manicure video!" Well, the day has come... my DIY manicure video is here! I never go to the salon to get my nails done (toes yes, finger nails, no). I have mastered the at-home mani and now I'm going to show you how you can too. :) I was sent the Morgan Taylor Selfie Summer Collection c/o the Preen.Me VIP program, and thought this would be a great opportunity to use the polishes! Take a look at how I prep and polish my nails at home.
WARNING: this was a tricky video to film, I tried my best to keep it in focus the entire time.
Enjoy! XO

At first, I was like, "eh I don't really feel like doing my nails." and now that I've watched this I'm just like, " nAiL TiMe!" XD
LOL! A fresh mani makes everything better. Thanks for watching XO
Who's here because of Quarantine??? Her manicure and pedicure videos have really helped me keep my nails up while the salons are closed
I'm so glad you've found them helpful!! Hopefully we can all get back to normal life soon xoxo
@@AmandaBellaa They turned out sooo great! Please check my channel out and give me your critique. Please & Thanks! 💅🏾😃
Great Job Amanda your nails look beautiful 🤩 I like painting my nails too
Soaking your nails in water is not good before you paint them. When you paint your nails you want them as dry as possible because then the polish sticks as good as possible. When there is any fluid or oil underneath the nailpolish, you’ll get lifting and chipping. I prefer washing my hands with soap and a quick rinse instead of soaking them in a bowl of water...
The problem I have with soaking my nails is that they absorb water and are bigger. If I get them polished in this state, when the water dries out, my nails shrink back to normal and the polish buckled and cracks.
Any time my nails are in water, I follow them up with a jojoba based nail oil. The oil keeps my nails flexible but strong and never dry.
This is exactly what I was going to say! Thanks
Also water is really bad for your nails, it makes them prone to chipping because they get so brittle. Water doesn't moisturize your hands and nails like she implied, it dries them out because it strips the natural oils from your skin and nails. That's why when you wash your hands too often, they get super dry. It's not the soap that does it, it's the water.
I really appreciate all of your feedback! I'm not a professional, I just like to soak them prior to filing because they tend to curve inwards ...which makes it difficult to file them evenly. I dry them very well post-soak and have never experienced any breakage/chipping due to soaking. But that's good to know. XO
Amanda Bellantoni That makes sense. I guess if you're not having any problems it's fine. To each their own.
Great job! I wish my nails grew as long as yours without breaking, they look really nice!
Your nails look so professional.
Thank you so so much!!❤️
Thank you so much for the tip of saving your thumbs untill the end 💕💕
I have the shakes all the time so I could never paint mine like Kayla. I also find doing my own manicure is very therapeutic, but I have to play the How Messy Can You Get and How Well Can You Clean It Up? Lol... I still do my own and I am getting better at it even with the shakes. Love your show Hun. There is an issue though. When filing and buffing it is best to go one direction. It helps to keep the nail from splitting at the tips. It takes a bit more time but I noticed my nails looked a lot better. Now my questions. How many coats do u do of all 3 polishes? And should each coat be dry?
Use nail oil (pure jojoba oil) because that oil is the closest oil to our natural sebum our body make, which means it has more benefits for your body and nails also has great benefits for the cuticles.
Thanks so much for sharing! XO
Thank u for your show I want u too do my nails lol and come too Garrett country lol
What kind of dog I see the ears 😂
LOL! My Chihuahua :)
do you cut your cuticles?
Not usually! I maintain them between manicures by keeping them moisturized & pushing them back daily! They stay in pretty good shape that way so I rarely have to take a clipper to them.
You Are So Amazing
Livi La'Pearl you’re so sweet!!
You cannot soak nails first and file them afterwards, you damage your nails and then it causes chipping. File your dry nails first and then soak them to push and remove your cuticles. Done!
Yes no soaking before filing. Actually, filing before removing polish accurately shows the way your nails look.
Thanks!
With this quarantine situation, DIY manicures are a must. Thanks for this great video!!
They really are! Thank you so much for watching - happy polishing!! XO
Definitely 🌹
@@AmandaBellaaWhat a pretty colour you’re wearing!🤍
I wish it didn't take so long for nail polish to fully dry. :\
Jennifer Grove that’s why I switched to uv gel polish lol
Jennifer , with any nail polish at home you can apply a gel topcoat. It dries a bit faster and the polish will last 5-7 days. The gel manicures and SNS from the salon are more toxic .
I hear ya girl! I normally use the ONM Out The Door Topcoat or the Essie Gel Setter....both dry VERY fast & leave nails chip-free and shiny for days. :)
Thank you!!
I always wondered with the UV drying thingys, do you have to use any sort of UV protectant for your cuticles/fingers? I just wonder if over time it could be dangerous?
I could probably do that but I’m so impatient and I always smudge them before they dry
LOL! That's always the hardest part. ;) Thanks for watching! XO
The problem that I usually get when I paint my nails is that even if I wait about an hour or so, the Polish would still smudge when I use Top Coat
Try Seche Vite! Their top coat dries so quickly.
I did have it and it barely worked for me....My mom got me Pure Ice Girl on the go Quick Dry Top Coat and it worked
Katia Moreno LOL me too
Sweetie ( I'm old , I can call you that lol) don't you let anyone steal your fire! You have your own way and it obviously works for you. You are blessed with strong nails. Mine are very thin and polish flakes off of mine because they bend so easily. So, unfortunately I have to spend a small fortune to get mine done. I like to paint them at home after because those sneaky girls don't paint up to the cuticle causing you to have to go back in a week or two sooner. lol. Have you tried those transfer design plates? You said your dog has fomo? What does that stand for please? I suspect my husky has a mild form lol. I wear a similar color every summer usually. Love it!
Mary Wylde FOMO = Fear Of Missing Out
Basically, that puppy doesn’t wanna be left out of anything she’s doing! Always by her side
Your nails are so pretty they don’t look real.
Thank you so much! I try!! :)
True
That's true
@@AmandaBellaa is this a you 😍😍😍😍😘😘😘😘😘
That was awesome 😍✨
Puppy ears at 2:15 :D
Neat video, but here’s a GREAT tip: Before applying polish, wipe your nails with acetone. This will remove any oil that may be on the nail bed. Doing this step will help your polish to last a little bit longer!
HOW??? When I paint my nails one hand is always really good and the other really bad...
Ahh! The struggle is real! Practice & have patience... you'll get it! I still do a sloppy job once in a while.
Some other videos suggested moving your dominant hand and holding the brush hand still. I thought that was pretty clever
Because you have a good hand a bad hand the good hand you polish with is good but your bad hand is bad
Aussie Annie it’s practice.. in the beginning I couldn’t do it either but now I can
I agree with you
Your voice relaxed me so I fell asleep and couldn‘t watch the video to the end. So I began again😂🤷🏽♀️
But beautiful nails and nice video👍🏽👍🏽
Hahah aw! That's really nice, I'm glad I could help you sleep!! :)
No mention of how you clean your cuticles? That is my biggest issue.
Me: mom can I buy more nail polish
Mom: sure
Me: yayay, when can we go
Mom: 5 minutes
and 3 years from now😂😂
This is a true story and I am still counting
Oof
Wow
Soaking nails before filing will cause them to split. NEVER soak before filing. She should know that.
Such a pretty summer color!
Thank you so much! It really is a gorgeous shade! :)
Pretty as a pink ture is the prettiest shade of pink I have EVER seen actually I have some dark pink nail polish from Essie and it’s pretty too
2:02 the doggy ears in the background is so cute❤❤❤
They turned out so perfect that They look fake...very pretty color I love it,great job!!
Haha!! Thank you! Wish they looked this nice right now! LOL
@@AmandaBellaa ur welcome, it's all good!! Lol
I find it very relaxing watching people paint their nails, anyway yours turned out really neat and cute
Me, too!!! I love nail videos:)
Im about to do my first maanacure what should i do?
I love manicures!!
And playing loud music while I'm at it.
Haha it can be a very relaxing/therapeutic experience!
dude how does she make em look so professional. i always mess up.
How did you grow your nails? They are beautiful 😊
OMG I always do my thumbs last too because I use them for cleanup as well. It works so good!! Best tool, better than an actual tool.
Hahah!! They really are!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Please do bot buff your nails. If you have ridges in your nails just use a ridge filling basecoat instead of thinning out all your nails.
I love that colour it is my favourite colour
Thanks so much!! 🥰🥰
I’m going on a date with my crush and I want to impress him, tysm girl!!!
Awwww yay!! Have a great time!!! XOXO
Love the color!! No light needed?! Great!! Your manicure turned out very nice. Thanks for sharing.
Going to try this rn!! 🥰🥰🥰
Edit 2h later: this is just AMAZING my nails didn’t looks as perfect as hers bc I couldn’t buff them but it’s GREATTTT 👍
Good idea to paint thumbs LAST! Will do from now on
Yes!! They make the best clean up tools! :)
I usually do my left thumb and go all the way to my pinky, and do the same with my right hand after I’m done with my left. Same with when I remove the polish. I am a lefty as well.
Isnt it bad to soak your nails in water? Mine gets really soft and sensitive after washing dishes etc
Washing dishes is not the same as soaking your nails though, dish soap and rubbing with a sponge helps to get your nails soft and sensitive, while soaking without rubbing should just clean them
Lol my family has taken up playing dungeons and dragons via zoom so I have aaaaallll the time in the world for this to dry 😂
How do you keep your cuticles under control?
Hand lotion & cuticle oil all day everyday! Especially after you wash your hands. I push them back regularly too :)
Thank you 😊
I used to push my cuticles back to make the moons on my nails look bigger but I don’t do that anymore
Dear, bravo! I'm proud of you!
That color is gorgeous. Excellent job on your manicure. Beautiful nails!
Thank you so much!!
I agree you did a beautiful job on your nails and toes nails sence I watch you do you nails at home like you said you have to take time a patients for everything for your toenails and nails so that way they look pretty and how to take care of them so that's what I'm going to do I never new using 100% acetone nail polish remover makes your nail polish last longer on your nails and everything specially to take the oil off your nail lol keep up the good work I Subscribe to your channel so when you do new and more videos I will watch them keep up the good work
Wow great video!! Such a pretty color! How long does your manicures normally last? 😃
Thank you so much! Usually a full week! Sometimes longer. :)
adding salt to that water is seriously dehydrating your nails and also they shouldn't be wet before you polish them. because they are wet, nails are like sponges and absorbe a lot of water and when that happens, your nails get weakened because the water makes them softer and the natural C-curve of the nail is barely even there... soaking nails in water is not good, really...
This is exactly what I was going to say! Thanks
That’s why when I hand wash the dishes my nails always break!!
I appreciate your feedback! I never claimed to be an expert, my nails just tend to curve inwards which makes it difficult to file them evenly if I don't soak them first. I dry them very well post-soak and have never experienced any breakage due to filing.
Amanda Bellantoni if so, this is a veey clever idea actually x
Melanie D I'm pretty sure she said soap
I was doing this at home but I got tired and now I go to the beauty salon
LOL! It can be a lot of work - it's always nice to treat yourself!
I love this video❤
Thanks so much for watching! This was the first manicure video I ever filmed ◡̈
Love love the color!! Great job. It seems like I always miss mine up before drying. Great video .
You have beautiful hands!😍
You are so good at nails
Thanks girl! :)
OMG am talking to you aa can you subscribe to me I am your biggest fan

Thx for this video!!!!! I love your nails they are so long and healthy 💖!
I’m sooo trying this! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜!!
PS:I love that pink as well 😜
Thanks so much for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
What’s the best nail polish to use? Your video is so helpful! I’m 24 and just learning how to be a little more girly and paint my nails lol thanks for the info!
Thank you so much! You can totally do them yourself - I love so many difference polishes. Honestly - Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure line is probably my favorite!! good luck :) XOXO
LOVE the way my nails came out. Thank you Amanda!
Thank you for the video, I never do my nails. For me its a new area to enter. I learned your systematic approach and I get the therapeutic aspect.
Thanks, you inspired me.
It really can feel therapeutic & relaxing. I'm glad you enjoyed, have fun with it!! XOXO :)
I love my nail day 💅🤗 I feel so proud with pretty self done nails! I less like the dry and bump when I bump my nail and it gets ugly uggh
Aw! Me too! Nothing like a fresh manicure! I love that you paint them yourself too. And how frustrating when you nick, smudge, or chip them :( that's the worst!
OMG. Beautiful color and nails. Jealous.
They look like acrylics
Acrylics would have came off in the acetone part, and they dont look like acrylics they look more fake than acrylic lol, but they are real.
Same as our dggys
how long do your manicures usually last
That's one of my favorite colors. Love pinks Beautiful 😍
6:01-6:18 I can relate. I love doing my nails, but I have a bad habit of biting my nails so I can rarely ever paint them because they are neve long enough.
I'm with you both!
Goob job! :) Keep it up!
I’m currently pregnant and use to spending money on me! Now I’m looking to cut back on coins because I’d rather spend on my baby. Great video! ❤❤
They look so perfect, when I saw the thumbnail, I thought they were fake! :)
Haha aw thanks!! :)
I thought they were some sort of acrylics or gel. You're so good at this!
Hot water is bad for your nails because it softens them, and breaks them
Consider: File your nails while they still have polish on them - they are stronger with polish on & you can better see their shape.
Soaking nails allows them absorb water & weakens them. Using a cuticle remover cream achieves this better. Wash hands afterwards and use a nail brush to clean around and under the nails removing dirt and cuticle remover. Soaking your nails allows the water to interfere with the application of the nail polish.
Wow ! Really took me in Class all over again but this time it was very interesting and Exciting you make a great Teacher keep going.
That colour is amazing
Thank you! Isn't it great for Summer? :) XO
I love Morgan Taylor polishes! They are soo pretty and vibrant!
Gorgeous pink, btw:)
💖👑👑💖🎬🎥📽Hello again will that remover take gel polishes off 💖
These are gorgeous 😍
Thank you!! I'm ready to revisit this color! ;) xoxo
It's terrible for you nails to be soaked. Weakens them. Nails are polished not painted. It isn't nail paint.
You said not to rub nail polish off but then you did! Your nails look fab - but your process doesn't work for most people.
never understood the thumb clean up thing. it's so annoying to get random polish marks on a fresh base coat...
How do you keep your nails so CLEAN? I cannot get the dirt out of my nails!!
This is such a beautiful colour it is really good for summer and l love this video ❤️
Good tip on the thumbs!
It's super helpful!!
You have pretty nails, like the length and shape.
Thank you so much! I wish they were this length right now 😭❤️💅🏼
I appreciate the 'look' of long nails (not super long), but love the 'feel' of shorties. Feel always wins out. I think that women dislike their short nails because they aren't putting the care into them to make them look nice. I appreciate nail care videos like yours to educate people (men too) how to care for your hands.
Next video should be painting the doggo's nails
Watching this finally! Thank you for the awesome tips. Your nails always look so pretty!!! 😍
Oh my gosh hahaha thanks Nicole!! XOXO
This isn't new, manicure and pedicure at home. We have been doing that for decades and look great with healthy hands and feet. That's how you keep more cash on hand and debt free!
her: cotton swab.
caption: cotton ball.
me: COTTON PAD🤦🏼♀️😂😂💖
HAHAHA! Sometimes I think but don't pay much attention to what I'm actually saying. Exhibit A! Cotton ball, cotton pad, cotton round....honestly any would make more sense than a cotton swab!! LOL
Your nails are so pretty they don’t look real
Haha thank you? I wish they looked like this right now!
I love your nail polish color.
Nice video, nice length, nice colour, beautiful natural nails, beautiful personality, and lastly beautiful face and voice, good good
So sweet! Thank you so much for watching & the kind compliments!
I just uploaded my first manicure tutorial, definitely a lot harder than it looks (I’ve never done anything like that before so my video doesn’t look as good as yours and I probably should’ve done more editing to shorten it)
I’ve watched several other tutorials and have stopped the video part way through because they skip important steps and sometimes their voice just annoys me (I know it’s not their fault) but I watched yours to the end and I like the fact you point out little details that a lot of other people wouldn’t know to do and aren’t shown in other videos (in particular about sealing the tips with polish - such an important step!) Those are the things that make the difference between an ok manicure and a great manicure!! :-)
OMG SAMEE!! for me when I’m doing my manicures, painting my nails it’s like me time. It’s sooo relaxing and therapeutic. Btw I’ve never heard of painting underneath ur nails with a bottom coat, I’m a bit spectacle bit I’ll try and see f it does protect them, normally I just cap my free edge, bc like it’s kinda the same thing. But I do have very long nails so I’ll definitely try this out. 😊😁🥰
Thank you. Nice video. Love the lacquer color. "Sally Hanson Dries Instantly" is a must for me. it dries so fast preventing smudging.
Ohh yes - Sally Hansen Insta-Dri is GREAT! I'm a huge fan of Sally Hansen polishes, they are the best!
I like you. Your are a lovely person 😊.
Beautiful hands and nails.
I'd wish my nails would look like yours 😁😂
I always have short nails because of my job .
You're sweet -- thanks so much!
She said that this is was her first time using base and the top and then she I reccomend u do this
Coming off a "dip" manicure at salon - which I initially liked but a pain when It starts growing out. Your video tells me what I need to know. Good job.
Super helpful! Thanks!
Thank you!! I'm glad you enjoyed!
Please make a video on how uu shape ur nails plsss
I need to do this!!
Hope you will doo and share mee
Thank uu for this video
So you basically have no cuticles to remove. Lucky you! Most of my manicure time is taken by removal of cuticles ;-/. Also,I don't use acetone or polish removers containing acetone, it's very harsh on my nails, strips off the natural coat of my nails.
What is your wait time in between coats to assure that they are dry?
my nails are so short and i dont like it but i still paint my nails pretty
