Team Fortress 2 Characters: Good to Evil
Team Fortress 2 is a fantastic piece of gaming history. It’s one of the greatest games Valve has ever made and it’s one of the most enduring online multiplayer games of all time with a sizable player base even after 12 years and plenty of competitors who came and went. There’s something here for everyone to enjoy: a timeless Pixar-like art style, fast-paced chaotic gameplay, a ludicrous degree of player customization, the lack of a price tag, and especially the characters. And we’re not just talking about Mann Co’s proud batch of mercenaries, TF2’s lore is deceptively rich with characters that span the full moral compass. A few are good, most are pretty bad, and some would take evil as a compliment. We left no stone unturned with this one- looking at the game itself along with the Meet the Team videos and the official TF2 comics so we could be as thorough as possible. Equip your favorite hat and grab a Sandvich because the mission begins in 10 seconds.

Sniper wasnt abandoned, he climbed into a rocket when he was 1 year old, and flew off of the subaquatic New Zealand, just to land on Australia, where he was found by his adoptive parents. I love how it's actually canonical that scout was God's gift to women on earth, in TF2's universe. So bizarre lol
Given that any god scene so far could be a hallucination of a dying brain (e.g. Sniper meeting his adopted parents in heaven, which was explained by Medic to be a hallucination), ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Debatable if it's canonical or not.
Devil deals and the actual concept of souls seem to be 100% legit in this universe though.
@@dezgasting but scout wasn't revived by medic or anyone, which means that he in fact did get revived by God
@@dezgasting So, medic did go to hell and the detonator pen is proof that he was not hallucinating. Also, with characters like Merasmus, bombinomicon, and Old nick in the TF2 universe, God is not too far off to be considered not real.

God could very much be real in TF2 universe. Only thing that bothers me is why Sniper didn't meet God although he got to Heaven. Or is that only Scout's meeting afterlife is "real"?

While yes, it is cowardly to hide behind the mask and not reveal that spy is the father of scout, spy did make Scout’s biggest dream become a reality. Scout spent every last dime on Tom Jone’s memorabilia, and convinced Spy to come get it at the bank (although they did get arrested). In Scout’s final moments, Spy gave scout the speech he needed to give his son, while making sure Scout’s end was one with content and happiness rather than confusion and sadness (since scout would be horrified if he knew spy was his dad)

Spy is actually a very decent guy, he's essentially Ms Pauling's emotional support in the comic, and I think he took on the disguise of Tom Jones to make Scout feel good in his last moments, because he knew Scout hates him, and he loves Tom Jones. He put his son's well being over his desire to tell him the truth here, which is a way bigger step for him than you could think if you'd only think of it as him taking on the disguise to not have to deal with scouts rejection or something.
Plus in the smissmas story he bonds somewhat with the little kid and tells him how to defend himself, which was really wholesome. Tough Guy's Toque + Funny Lines =
I am telephone
If you look at some of the stuff in game and in other things that Heavy is featured in, you'll quickly see that this 'pure-hearted soul' exists almost exclusively in the comics. While heavy is probably the most charitable of the bunch, the fact of the matter is that any excuse to hurt someone is an excuse he gladly takes, whether he is being paid or not. Also, the joke behind him giving the kid a wad of cash was more to show that Heavy earns so much money as a mercenary that he actually has no concept of how valuable it actually is. Heavy actively ENJOYS hurting people, and when given the option to do so, he doesn't pull any punches.
@@asktoybox I just looked at how he gave the kid like a grand was that he has so much money he just does whatever with it. Remember in the comics Miss Pauline was running out of weapons to bribe the mercs to keep fighting and they are basically set for life just working for Mannco since Demo was able to drown his sorrows in whiskey for months and seemed no worse for wear.

And all is canon.
Its really easy to understand why he tried to stop the train by himself, the whole End of the Line video clearly shows it. He has his flaws, killing Medic’s doves and not understanding how to play Chess and even taking note of Medic’s frustration from his misunderstandings. An “all brawn, no brains” kind of character. Its only until you realise when he goes onto the tracks that the chess pieces he previously placed first was the Queen, showing how he puts everyone else first before himself. It was incredibly heartwarming to me after i noticed this.

mabey? he was the best
The comics shed a lot of light on the mercs and their goodness/evilness. Even with their murder count, Scout and Sniper went to heaven after they died, which shows that they have some genuine good qualities in them. Ms Pauling went to some sort of limbo where she met with Administrator. And Medic, despite having the smallest murder count on his hands, is said to be such a monster back on Earth that he would've ended up in hell even without the contract.
Since Medic is German and was of fighting age in WW2… it’s possible he did some bad shit. He had to have come up with the medi-gun somehow. (He most likely only did experiments for his own personal gain so he most likely isn’t a Nazi)
I feel like Heavy should be second on the list of "good guys."

Fun fact : pyro does actually like fire and doesn’t just think it’s rainbows, in a pyroland vision, the bears that he fights look like Smokey the bear and enrages him when talking about how no one likes fires. So pyro would indeed be considered a pyro even in pyroland
Edit: this took place the “in a cold day in hell” tf2 comic
I'm pretty sure he does know what fire is and what it's called, when he sees the word fire he thinks of fluffy cotton candy rainbows so it's reasonable for him to be angry that Smoulders the Bear doesn't like it
@@quitequeerquesadilla wanted to suggest exactly that. I dont know when pyro obtained the pyrovision but depending on that he probably does not perceive fire as we do but rather at the rainbow as seen on the weapon rainblower
You're saying that pyro knows what fire is, but that doesn't mean he... "Knows" what fire is or what it does. It's like knowing what a rocket launcher is, but thinking they fire rainbows.

In my opinion Heavy is the most... I guess morally solid character. In the comics he specifically mentions shooting evil men, dearly loves his family, is shown to be at least marginally caring towards Pauling, seems to know Spy's secret about Scout but still keeps it, doesn't do much other than frown concerning Zhanna and Soldier, and straight up seems to be ok with dying as long as the man who killed his best friend is taken care of before he does. Not to mention the little moment in Exp. Date where he wakes up Scout so he can take the call with Pauling rather than doing it himself bc everyone knows Scout likes Pauling. And literally anything with Medic. At the very least nothing he does seems to be motivated by pure malice or madness, he's protective and kind and has all these little moments that show he cares deeply for the folks around him.

I always disagree with people saying engi is the most sane character, he's just a different kind of insane. To me he always seems like the most cold of the mercs, subdued behind the veil of southern hospitality. This is especially apparent in meet the engineer. Most of the others are the kind of crazy, ott insane, but engi is different, more real insanity, and always gives me chills when he says "and you best hope, it's not pointed at you"
Most people in the southern USA are borderline psychotics with god complexes behind the “Southern Hospitality” thing. Our dear Dell Conagher is just one of the few smart and conniving enough to warrant having one. He did apparently manage to design and _sell_ his sentry gun, dispenser, and teleporter on the domestic markets with TF Industries (which is actually a separate entity from Mann Co., according to the wiki).
The most sane merc is Spy.
Pyro is questionable. Maybe without goggles, he would be the most calm and sane person ever. However, some things can break even people with steel nerves.

Pyro does actually oftentimes show that he knows what he’s really doing, like when he cuts off Soldier’s hand in one of the comics or how he never lights himself on fire despite it being a “good” thing according to Pyro-vision.
He probably tried it once, got hurt and assumed that the greatness of the thing that came out of his trumpet was not for him, and only for others. The fact he still does it (to be the greatness to others) shows that he does want others to be happy, and that's what he sees.
