    Thanks for the great content Fred! I just bought a 2019 Grand Sport (7spd FTW) and I’m really enjoying it! Your channel was a big influence in my decision and I just wanted to say thank you 👊🏽

    Trying to maneuver between those little cones looks confusing.

      It defintely takes some getting used to. The video exaggerates how small they are, but some of the gaps between are just a foot or so wider than the car, which is intentionally forcing you to slow down for certain sections. They give us 2 sighting, low speed laps first thing in the day to get the general layout, and it definitely takes probably 3 runs before you really can start opening it up. The challenge though is part of what makes it fun, and helps level the playing field. From a prior video a couple months back, I was neck and neck with a guy in a new NSX who had more power, AWD, and an Auto, and yet I was just a second back from his best time. It's definitely helped polish my driving, and get a lot faster/smoother.

    Did you keep in 2nd gear the whole course?

      Hi Tmichael39,
      Yep, at the fastest parts I was just bumping redline, so no need to shift. Other runs I played with shifting into 3rd but didn't really need to. Most other cars out there (unless they were geared super short) all run in 2nd as well.

    Hey Fred, I have been watching from way back and also took a break, you’re still my favorite content creator, especially your corvette content! Just wanted to tell you it looks like I’m getting go to order my Z06, super pumped! Hope to make it out your way someday for a ride swap day!

    That was a seriously fast course. Kudos to whoever designed it for letting the big Grand Sport eat. Nice driving, I’m no expert, but it looked pretty smooth to me!

      Thanks man, yeah the courses they build are awesome. The facility is actually the MA State Police high speed training grounds in Devins, MA. There is a spot with probably 200+ police vehicles there that they use for practice/training. I had always been a bit skeptical of autocross, seeing examples in a big parking lot. However, once I started looking into it, all the events near me are either on dedicated road courses, or old airfields where you can stretch a cars' legs. I think my top speed was around 70, and I could pretty much just stay in 2nd throughout, but it feels faster because you're always turning or braking or accelerating. One other cool aspect is they allow you to ride with anyone else who's at the event (as long as the person doesn't mind a passenger and they have a helmet). So I've gotten to ride in a slew of cool cars, and see how they differ (GT350R, Evora, 992 911, etc...). It's a blast, and a safe way to get into timed events!

    Also Fred, you got your car PPFd when you bought it, was curious how soon you had to redo it and if you found it to yellow at all?

    • @FredsFullThrottle
      @FredsFullThrottle  Місяць тому +1

      Haven't had to redo it yet, no yellowing, cracking or drying out. Xpel Ultimate is what I had put on. At some point here I'll take it to an Xpel place and have them look it over, but it still seems as flexible/resilient and looks as good as the day I got it. I am not sure if using the Xpel branded soap for every wash (and washing it every other drive) has helped. It says it conditions it, but I don't know how true that is.
