Turning green wood can be such a pleasure. You just have to be prepared for it to crack.... It's not a defect (bug), it's a feature. I just recently turned a large bowl from a piece of Jacaranda crotch. It was not this fresh but still very wet. The bowl was literally drying and cracking as I was turning it. It made getting smooth curves very difficult but all the cracks got filled in the end. I think the cracks are what made this piece so wonderful. Great work! I love watching your videos.
I will show you piece, 2 weeks after turning it on the next video! Catch the next video on Sunday. I would have included it in this video but completely forgot until I was editing!
You can turn wet wood. I (and many other woodturners), have done this multiple times. You just need to turn it thin enough that the moisture will evaporate without the piece cracking.
Hi I an enjoyed your video, lovely vase I didn't know you could use wet wood. Is this the first-time you used wet wood looks good to me. Bye to you and camera person. 😊
The way the shavings just POURED off was amazing, Ian ! They could be dried and sold as barbecue kindling, or something like that, no ? Erhmm .. somewhat insulting question: regardless of the finished article's not holding up - what WAS said finished article ? [embarrassed grin]
It definitely could be, I need to find uses for shavings a little more as there is a lot of them! It’s more of an ornamental piece for shelves, whether that be a pen pot, posey holder, an ornament on its own.. we’ll say it’s up for interpretation 😂. Thanks for your comment!
Nice one Ian. I rough turned a bit of green Eucalyptus as an end grain bowl in much the same experimental mind set.....it's almost two half bowls at the moment! lol Cheers, Dave
😂 we should have recorded a bit at the end showing it now, much the same as you’ve described Dave haha, we’ve both got plenty of it left though mate so a bit of experimenting had to be done!
Too bad you didnt show the end result with the dry project and what happened to it. Otherwise, I think it was beautiful. Looked like it cut way easier then normal. 😃
@@IanMacWoodturning - Could just do a short additional video. Others do it all the time. I'm sure I'm not alone in not having social media so I'd only see it here.
@@IanMacWoodturning - That sounds good to me. Have to know some of us are learning from your experiments. 😁 Plus, I hope Thing is doing a lot better... and all the little things around him.

Thank you mate! This was more of a play about as it was almost certainly going to warp and crack!

Thank you for the education, love the shape. Could you show the piece after couple weeks. Again thanks.
Yeah I’ll put it in the next video mate!
Good one Ian, wet turns well. Stay safe, John
Cheers John!
Great video Ian! Even though it wasn’t going to hold its shape it was worth having a play with!
Thanks Ben! Yeah this was more of a play around as it was definitely going to move about and crack!

A very good wood for wet turning is Leylandii, no matter the MC it seems to hold its shape every time I’ve worked with it.

I like the design of this one! Shame it cracked.
Thanks Ella!
It would be Cool for you to show us the results of the wet wood turnings! Thanks, in anticipation!
Will do Stephanie! I’ll put it at the start of my next video
Post a picture in a couple weeks just so we can see what it does.
I was thinking the same! I’ll put it on Instagram & make a UA-cam post or something.
@@IanMacWoodturning I don't deal with Instagram. Just show it in your next video.

I know! I only thought of it as I was uploading the video! I might put it on my Instagram in a few days or something
