  • This Stihl MS 500i is a great chainsaw . But up against this Walkerized 462 it picks up the back seat

      Had a pair of trees come down in my yard a couple weeks ago. My dad came over to help me clear it up. Just a day of pruning, bucking, and hauling the brush to the dump. The whole time talking and joking around. It's one of those days that'll stick in my memory and makes me smile whenever I think back.

    Looking at Billy's dad here and how active and in shape he is, makes me think of my dad. He's still with me, thank god, but he lost the ability to work or do any meaningful physical activity ever since he replaced his hips.. The operation went bad, and the second even worse.. Now he's got back pain and walking with a crutch. I can see the sadness in his eyes when I'm working around a yard and he can't help out. He was a hard working man for all of his life, and it hurts me to see him not being able to split wood, operate a chainsaw, etc.... But this is the circle of life I guess... Um... In drag racing, even a few inches count. 500i took the big end compared to the 462. You can visually see the diameter for the 500i was slightly bigger than that of the test on the 462. Regardless, I'd put them almost the same in this test. My humble opinion, I have both of these saws. My 500i is the go to for, if not one reason only, it starts quick and cuts fast all day. No adjustments required. I do not regret at all buying it. BTW... Most of my logging is in South East North Carolina here in the states. We have been removing blow downs from hurricanes over the past couple of years on our property. So, deep in swampy terrain, hard to get back to base camp to fix things. The 500i with a 32" bar... runs all day. Love it.

    One of the buys that still stands out in my life today was an 044 red trigger saw in 1993. It was a huge purchase for me back then, the kind that made me nervous. We were falling big Dfirs and Sugar pine in the northern Sierras. Other guys had bigger saws. I discovered back then that the 70cc saw was the best daily saw to have on the job. Its a FINE SAW.. the 362.. but to put the 500i into perspective. The 362 is a 59cc chain saw wit 4.69 horsepower, weighing 12.3 pounds.. the 500i, is a 79 cc chainsaw, with 6.7 horsepower weighing 13.9 lbs. And they are both roughly the same demensions.. so for 1.5 more pounds, you get 2 more horsepower ( alot for a saw) in a saw the same size.... Thats an unheard of gain... Its accomplished because the fuel injection does away with space the carb took up... All of these specs arent even taking into account the responsiveness and reliability of the fuel injection system.. it truly is a game changer.. i love the 362... And youll be fine with it as a home and ranch guy... But the reasons above is why the 500i is such a big deal.. and you can read all day about it.. but untill you run one thats past its break in period, you cant explain in words how much saw this is for the package it comes in

    A word on electric saws from my experience. Black and Decker elec. Pole saw. Never fails to start. My battery also fits my power drill. Got 3 batteries and makes more work than I care to clean up in a day. Very happy. In cold weather 34° and lower battery life is cut in half. No disappointments. Its never failed to work, never flooded, can't get ethanol poisoning. Battery powered saws are good if you don't have a saw in your hands more than once a month. Loved your video as always. You exude peace and happiness. Bless you and stay safe. Good drum chops too!

    I have both saws, and I’m convinced the 462 is better. Maybe the 500I will be better soon, but for now, definitely not. I run them with my friend the past weekend and he actually said the same. Those saws are freaking monsters.

    I went home to visit twice in the past year, and there’s nothing like visiting with pops and getting some work done in the process. At 23, it seems life doesn’t get any slower and a year or two can fly by without seeing the family. Not a very good feeling watching your little siblings grow up without you

    Great video brother. There's a guy on Facebook/OPE/AS that did dyno comparisons of several 70+ cc saws, including the 500i and 462. All stock. While the 500i had more power, IMHO the 462 had a more impressive power curve, holding peek HP longer. I have a 461 now, and am tempted to sell it to get a 462. I'm also wanting to get a buddy's ported 372, as I'm an equal opportunity saw lover ;)

      I know it’s an old thread, but I’m curious if you ended up replacing the 461 and what you ended up choosing. I’ve been craving a 372 for some time, but I’m struggling with temptation with 462/500... I have both breeds currently in my stable, so I’m not leaning in one direction or another concerning brand loyalty. Bless’ns to ya, Tedd

      @@sawsurgeon Everything I read on the 462 just screams buy me! BUT... I was chatting with my dad this weekend and asked him his thoughts since he spent 25 years logging and he said his favorite saw he ever had was a husky 372 ported with a 36" bar. Said it was a screamer and super reliable. That was an older model though so yeah, food for thought.

    We have bought the 500i to replace our old 361. We needed a small, light one for Smaller woods, run them with a shorter sword to be Quicker on the gas and honestly im super happy with the buy. Used it to cut down a lot of smaller trees. And it never failed on me. I was very sceptic at first, but it proved its worth. Greetings from germany, just found out about your channel. Some nice techniqes in your other Videos as well.

    My shop just picked up a 500i. found that thing to be a ripper! in wyoming we get crazy elevation changes quite quickly so it can be a nuisance having to adjust carbs, granted it's not done often but it's definitely nice to not have to worry about that.

    Both are amazing saws when pumped up from Clearwater in Idaho. I’ve had the honor to work with both the Turcott brothers (Jeff and Greg) and they have clear water pumped up versions of these saws and they are absolute rippers. Jeff has the 462 and Greg has the 500. I highly recommend sending them in to get pumped up if you have the chance

    For most the 462 is the saw to get when both are stock, unless you really need the extra power of the 500i. The light weight, single piece top cover and spin on air filter of the 462 makes it hard to beat.

    • @Mackenzie.Grant95
      @Mackenzie.Grant95 4 роки тому +6

      462 has to be the best do it all stock saw ever sold. power to weight and easy ergonomics make it hard to beat. it only takes 1 extra pull over 500i so ill stick with the 462

      @@Mackenzie.Grant95 The 500i is sweet and it runs flawlessly, but I agree. The 462 is more of a do all, the 500i is more of a longer bar saw only saw.
