Thanks so much, everyone. I enjoyed this so much. My sister passed from breast cancer and I have been worrying about having my own mammograms. I had to go back for a second one, but luckily, it was finally determined it was ok. I asked Kemmi to watch this movie in memorial to my sister, Karen. Kemmi's channel makes me smile and laugh. Love you all.

I miss the days of the early 2000's where I would host "girls' night" and we'd rent "chick-flick" movies and get pints of Häagen-Dazs to pass between us while we cried. "Beaches" was a seminal favorite.

You precious dear lady. You had me crying with your broken hearted tears. This is a painful movie but in the sweetest possible way. There is a part 2. The lady who wrote this story ( it was first a novel) is named Iris Rainer Dart. After this movie she published the sequel - Beaches 2: I'll Be There. It tells the story of CC and Whitney's daughter and their relationship with CC as her mom. It was not made into a movie because Bette Midler didn't want to do it. She was afraid doing a sequel might ruin Beaches and didn't want to risk it. But, the book is phenomenal and a fitting continuing story. I encourage you to read it and see the next chapter in their lives. But ... Have your tissues handy for that too. It is every bit as funny and heartbreaking as this one. Glad you loved this story. It's a beautiful story. More great Bette movies: Down and Out in Beverly Hills, Outrageous Fortune, Ruthless People, Big Business, The Rose, For the Boys, and That Old Feeling. You'll enjoy them. Most are comedies. A few are dramas. All of them are great!

      @Me-wk3ix Рік тому +6

I totally agree and was going to say the same thing! The only thing I would add is that if you read the sequel, read the original first. The movie changes enough of the story that if you haven't read the book, the sequel might confuse you a little.

This is one of those movies I've seen many times but I cry every time. Stories about friendships and those deep bonds from knowing someone so well, it's pretty powerful. Even just seeing it in parts in your reaction had me in tears. A beautiful and sad movie :)

I took a first date to this movie when it first came out. Neither one of us knew exactly what it was about. Well what I didn't know was that my dates childhood lifelong best friend died a few months earlier from breast cancer. She was only in her late 20's. Well when the movie was over, my date was crying hysterically and hyperventilating. After what seemed like forever, she eventually calmed down enough to tell me that the movie reminded her of her deceased friend. I felt horrible for taking her to that movie.

My husband is first gen too, his family is from Portugal. Lots of his family moved to Northern Ontario as well because they brought people over to work in the mines.

    C.C was the jealous one.
She knew that Michael & Hillary liked one another.
They hit it off from the moment they meet and were a good fit but C.C had to have her way so Hillary stepped aside because she loved her friend.
C.C only cared about what she wanted that's why her & Michael grew apart she never asked him or was concerned about what he wanted or needed she had to be #1 always.
Remember what her mother told her about how she wore her out how she wore her father out she knew how Michael and Hillary felt about one another but didn't care.
Remember when Hillary said she wanted a baby then C.C said she wanted one too.
She always had to be the center of attention.
So no Hillary was a good friend C.C was selfish.

This Gil also taught me that you don’t throw friends away when you have a fight. You find a way to make up and come back together even if it takes years to do so and even when on the outs if something bad happens you put all of it aside and be there. I have small group of friends now who are really my family.

I do love the sound and feel of rain. The smell, the wind. And this movie…. Beautiful and so sad.

Crap, I'm crying so much over your tears as much as the movie. I haven't had THIS level of loss yet, and I dread the day when I do. But it occurs to me, now that I'm older how important that quote is: "I know everything about you, and my memory is long." I realized that this Christmas when I was telling my 8 year old niece the story of how her grandparents (my parents) met, and how my brother and I were when we were little kids. She loved hearing stories about us, and kept asking for more. At that moment I was so glad I remembered this stuff. my parents are getting older, and I become increasingly aware with each passing year that I have more time behind me than in front of me with them. It makes me more aware and anxious to recall little details, like the wheezing my dad gets when he laughs too hard, or the way my mom will put whipped cream in our hot chocolate but then playfully squirt it on our noses. I need my memory to be long.

Yes dear. I wrote down questions for my mom and I recorded her speaking about these things. Her childhood- teen-college yrs- marriage just in case my memory isn’t long.

Never been a fan of chicken flicks so top two for me. It's gotta have some meat to it. And this is a feast.

When I was sick as a girl and my mom had to stay home with me...she would put a bunch of certain movies on for us to watch. The CBC Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, Beaches, Fried Green Tomatoes, Steel Magnolias, and a few other movies depending on the time of the year. It was about the laughing and the crying. Something about emotional release helped. I had asthma and allergies causing upper respiratory issues as a kid.

My great aunt Carrie told my grandma Connie that I was the memory of our family as a 6yo little girl. I was so curious and talkative and gregarious. I learned in the middle of the night the woman was a relative. Woke up, and started helping her out with breakfast (I did it at our house) while getting my big sister, mom, and grandma going for the day. I believe a distant relative that my grandma and great-aunt knew and cared about had passed. No one else came. But when great-aunt Carrie died, she gave me the only thing she cherished : a family heirloom looking glass. This movie was seen when she visited the one time. It was hard for her to leave her land. She loved her animals and she had to find someone to care for them if she left.
