Fact: Roberto Cantoral, who is the composer of this song, wrote it when he was traveling to his mother's funeral, so the song has more feeling because it does not express the pain of the loss of a love that could have been temporary, but rather an eternal and wonderful one like the kind that only your mother can give you. That's why the song expresses so much pain Because he lost part of his heart, that it goes away together with his mother.

Hey Maggie, the guy who had the look of his face, his name is Marco Antonio Muñoz, he’s called El Lujo de México, The Luxury of Mexico, at the time he was, and still is, one of México’s greatest voices. He was in disbelief when he listened Jose Jose singing. If you haven’t done so, please look him up, I think you’ll have a very pleasant surprise as well. Actually, many people in the audience, at least the first two rows, were filled by singers who already had a career and were well known, as Angélica María, Alberto Vázquez.
Fun fact number 2: They guy with that surprised look on his face, Marco Antonio Muñiz is one of Mexico's greatest singers, actually Marc Anthony Is named after him, he admires him

I'm mexican, just to correct some translation: "The beach has no sea" is more like "The seas of the beach go away" "Evertything is loneliness now" is "Today everything is loneliness" I know it is the same, but I think that specially for a music letter, you have to be very accurate with the translation so everyone can understand the actual message.
**translation wars** How sad everything looks without you The seas, from the beaches pull away Of gray the colors stain Today everything is loneliness.
The woman at 10:22 is Angelica María and the man at 10:32 es Marco Antonio Muñiz, both of them very Known mexican singers. José José's father was an opera singer, that's why he was very well trained. The incredible thing is that he was just 22 years when he did this performance. Such a shame he lost his voice because of alcohol and drugs.
Thanks for the info. Please share Jose Jose reaction video on your social media so more people can appreciate Spanish music and my reactions. Thanks for your support! 😀
@@maggiereneemusic Marco Antonio Muñiz was regarded as one of the best (If not the best) singers and performers in Mexico at that time along with Agustín Lara, in fact Marco Antonio Muñiz was nicknamed "El lujo de México" (The luxury of Mexico) because of how well dressed, sharp and impeccable of a performer he was both in his vocal delivery and in his physical appearance and at that time he had been at the top of his career, in fact some people started to believe he had let himself go a bit at that particular point in time by getting a little sloppy in certain aspects of his life, putting on some weight and it was all product of how overconfident he was of himself and how everyone was always speaking wonders of him somehow, (like many artists who are at the top tend to care less for their image over time). You have to remember Marco Antonio Muñiz was at the top at this time in his career and was regarded as one of the top artists of Latin America as well and for him this was shocking, there out of the blue comes a young man, handsome, confident, sharp, dressed in the style of the time, who has an overwhelming and powerful vocal ability and whose technical skills are ahead of many of the veteran singers of the time, obviously he was amazed and stunned by it all. I like to see it myself in my head like the moment when Jimi Hendrix "killed God" playing and singing for the first time in England in front of an audience I'm which Eric Clapton, the "God of guitar" at that time, was and no matter how good was Clapton at playing guitar or playing guitar while singing, Hendrix was ten times better, more inventive, revolutionary and more theatrical and engaging than him… I bet Marco Antonio Muñiz wanted the earth to swallow him at that moment and he thought he was done, maybe also containing a lot of jealousy but like the story of many good, mature and respectful artists they both became very good friends and to this day Muñiz reminds him with love and respect.
He was really into this song that day. He even said on an interview that no one was going ever gonna sing that song like he did that day not even him, because they reason he singed like that was because his mom had died earlier.
Maggie was SO clueless as to what she was about to experience! Last year when he passed, Mexico became ONE to commemorate his life. It was insane. That was a competition. He actually placed third, the results were fixed, clearly. No one really remembers who the first two places were, at least not as much as people remember Jose Jose. For some it takes a lifetime to be famous, for him, it took him 5 minutes to be immortalized. Pure talent. Loved your reaction!

Loved your comment, yes, He Is a legend. And if you can, watch on the "Yanni Voices" concert in Acapulco, when he had already lost his voice, he had a tribute and with the rewrite (re writting?), of Reflections of Passion into "Volver a nacer" it's just amazing and lovable, and makes You break into tears. Tears!!! Loved it

Hi! I'm from Mexico and I really liked your video. I just want to make a comment to help you understand how exceptional this song is. It is not a romantic song, it is about grief. The composer (Roberto Cantoral) wrote it when his mother died. talks about how difficult it is to bear a loss and that sometimes we have to hit rock bottom and savor our pain in order to move forward. Greetings
Ah, makes sense! Thanks so much for the info. Sending greetings to Mexico. If you can, please share my reaction to José José with your friends and on your social media so more people can appreciate Spanish music and my reactions. Thank you for your support! 😀
Saludos cordiales paisano!
He's great!…different voices, wonderful dynamics, he manages air like an Olympic champion, perfectly tuned, magical handling of the bibrato,….super interesting singer!!….good artist to study!

José himself said that no one would ever sing that song the way he did that night, not even himself. That was a very unique performance, even Angélica María and other professional singers present were in awe.

The legend! El príncipe. One of the best. I love this song so much. "Hoy quiero saborear mi dolor" that is one of the parts that make me get chills. And so does, "que triste todos dicen que soy. Que siempre estoy hablando de ti. No saben que en pensando en tu amor. En tu amor. He podido ayudarme a vivir" I love that part so much. Basically I just love this song so much. Hey Maggie, Its interesting that you would pick Jose jose to react to. I sang as a guest artist at a concert of his in 1979. I think it was in Mexico City but my Memory is a little foggy. Couple things I do remember are his singing is very "conversational". I had just finished up a two year stint of do William Tell on tour so I was pretty "cooked" mentally As I recall I sang a couple of the William Tell Arias, and we sang one duet. He was very easy to blend with as you might imagine with the tambour of his voice. I wish I could remember more of the details about his approach to singing, it was just a long time ago.
@@cperez1000 Sorry no videos of me, I had throat cancer in 1988 as have been unable to sing since then. There were some times I sang on TV shows, but that was so long ago now I'm sure the videos are long disposed of. Maestro Gedda has an audio recording of the William Tell in West Berlin. and now you know what an old fart I am, lol.
I watch these kind of reaction videos to José José every couple of months and i want to cry everytime lmao his voice is just hearthbreaking, but in a good way!
My favorite crooner of all time! I've seen him perform and he is the most gracious and humble singer I've seen. If you like this song, you'll love these tracks: "Amar y Querer," "Almohada," and his cross-over hit in the USA (1970) "La Nave Del Olvido." He has so many great albums, but one of my favorites is VOLCAN (1978).

Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you on my LIVE stream later today?
I'm mexican, just to correct some translation:
"The beach has no sea" is more like "The seas of the beach go away"
"Evertything is loneliness now" is "Today everything is loneliness"
I know it is the same, but I think that specially for a music letter, you have to be very accurate with the translation so everyone can understand the actual message.
Everything looks so sad without you
Even the sea pulls away from the beach
Colors have turned to grey
Today, everything is loneliness...
"-(
@@tzzeek much better.
**translation wars**
How sad everything looks without you
The seas, from the beaches pull away
Of gray the colors stain
Today everything is loneliness.
@@SndBarrera That kinda rhymed there for a bit so I concede. ;-(
@@tzzeek Yours is better. I’ve learned that literal translations don’t work well. Yours was clear and still had the original meaning.
@@maggiereneemusic … and his mother was a classical trained pianist.
I like to see it myself in my head like the moment when Jimi Hendrix "killed God" playing and singing for the first time in England in front of an audience I'm which Eric Clapton, the "God of guitar" at that time, was and no matter how good was Clapton at playing guitar or playing guitar while singing, Hendrix was ten times better, more inventive, revolutionary and more theatrical and engaging than him…
I bet Marco Antonio Muñiz wanted the earth to swallow him at that moment and he thought he was done, maybe also containing a lot of jealousy but like the story of many good, mature and respectful artists they both became very good friends and to this day Muñiz reminds him with love and respect.
I always appreciated how the orchestra stood up for him… totally deserved!! They knew they had been part of Latin-América musical history!!
He had a voice that could stop a STORM!
Jose Jose was recognized for his ability to sing a whole verse with one breath and it was hardly noticeable when he took a breath

Greetings

Saludos cordiales paisano!

I had the privilege of taking a picture with Jose Jose , it will be on my memory As the singer who teaches me how to love
This was really interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Wow this is amazing, is there video of you?
@@cperez1000 Sorry no videos of me, I had throat cancer in 1988 as have been unable to sing since then. There were some times I sang on TV shows, but that was so long ago now I'm sure the videos are long disposed of.
