    Playing against AI with my friends was such a great way to relieve the pressure of online matches and get us all more comfortable. Before long we were playing ladder matches and knowing we could hold our own against AI made it so much less stressful!

    Playing with the fog of war off is kind of a controversial one, isn't it? But it think it's an incredibly good advice. It will teach people about which questions to ask.
    Most of my friends are pretty casual when it comes to RTS, i'm not that much of a tryhard either, but damn they never scout and they rarely win against me. At least playing with no fog of war could fend them off from playing blind.
    Devoloping the right habits and understanding the value of scouting is a lot more difficult than actually just scouting. There's not as much to learn about scouting. Just a bit of micro, newbies can learn about it a little bit later. Why would you need to learn how to do proper scouting micro, when you don't even know how to kill a t4 unit, or how to tech up properly.

    All in all, good suggestions that I totally agree with, but for the love of god, never ever play with revealed map If you want to improve your gameplay! One of the worst mistakes beginners make is that they almost never scout or build radar, but since reconnaissance is one of the most important aspects of this game, you have to "practise" it from the very beginning, up to the point where you do it as routinely as breathing.

      If the goal is strictly to improve, yes... but if the goal is just to have fun and learn the basics, it's works great (at least it did for me). My other options when I started were
      1. Play 1v1 blind, not knowing what I'm doing, and eventually get crushed by an enemy two tech levels above me, or
      2. Play with allies, still not knowing what I'm doing, and my allies do all the scouting anyway
      In this case, playing with the map revealed made me keep playing the game, where I otherwise would have stopped, simply because I was having fun.
      I do get what you're saying though, it shouldn't be a crutch for too long because bad habits can build easily
      Cheers

      On the opposite of what @Jointorino explains, I really think that playing with FoW off IS actually the best way to teach the importance of scouting. Here is why: you play 25 games with FoW off, where you cna see everything, you can predict moves, you can build the right defenses, in short, you learn how to do micro-management... and then suddently, you turn FoW on. That's when you will miss the knowledge so much that you will desperatly need to scout and build radars. That's like steping one level up in RTS mastery. SO yes, start playing with FoW off, and even come back to it sometimes, when you need to learn how to prepare for attack/defense. There's no shame in that :)

    Would you mind sharing the mod for the AI you mentioned?

    • @TheGreenSquier
      @TheGreenSquier  9 місяців тому +9

      Definitely! If you have FAF installed, go to the Mods tab and search "M27" or "M28". They are made by the same creator with some slight differences you can find in the descriptions.
      I'm not sure if you can get them without FAF, but most of the community already uses FAF, which you can find here: www.faforever.com/

    Is there a set of mods you recommend for new players, to just get the essentials? Or is it pretty good as is.

      Nope, pretty good as is! Feel free to look around for mods you might like, but don't feel like you need any

      That nuke actually gets shot down, if you look closely you can see the anti nuke. Yeah probably could have zoomed in on that one though
