I did exactly that and now I have. A heck engine light and the truck idles a bit more than usual. It’s a misfire but what did I do wrong. I know the plugs are correct because I wouldn’t have been able to screw them all the way in. Any thoughts will help.
Great Video Thanks!!! I have a 2008 Chevy Siverado that I bought 8 months ago had 145k miles on it now I have 176k and the idle is at 500 and when I slow down tyo a stop it feels like it will stall but hasnt yet. pick up is a little bit slower. I just bought he Bosch Double Iridium spark plugs. going to put the in tomorrow. will this help. I dont know when the spark plugs were changed last.
I have a 2008 Silverado 1500 single cab, and thee check engine light has been on for a while with no problems, but just tonight it started blinking when I stopped at a light, and it was idling kinda shaky. Could that just be a misfire from a bad spark plug?
Twiztid Jester Yes, mine did that and it had a "cylinder misfire" code, took it for a full evaluation on the check engine light and it was the wires. I changed the plugs and wires and runs smooth and it's better on gas. I too have a single cab silverado 2008.
Twiztid Jester the check engine light was erased after the wires and plugs. My truck ran fine, it was that i would lose power and acceleration but it ran perfect. Did the stuff, erased the engine light and i got better gas mileage and it runs way smoother, i only have 56,760 miles on it.
Some mechanic said it was the ignition coil and others said all these "possible" things for misfire cylinder but it ended up being a bad wire like i said
I have a 2008 Avalanche with 46k on it... eng light came on today and it's the #6 cylinder misfire. Idle is at the right rpm and oil pressure is fine... just a rough idle and slight loss of power. You think it's best to start with changing out plug and wire on just number six or go ahead and change all 8? I bought this 10 months ago with 35k on it... so it really was not run very much at all... and my guess is plus/wires are original. Thoughts? Thank you... Steve in Florida
Is this 5.3 one of the AFM (Active Fuel management,) engines? My '07 Suburban is throwing cyl#8 misfire and I'm about to attempt changing that plug. Any suggestions beyond plug change to solve this issue?
No need to disconnect the battery just to perform a tune up. Plugs don't have current unless your vehicle is running. No real danger of damaging anything with the battery connected. You run more of risk breaking a plug or a coil tube, than burning something up. Now, if you were changing out the alternator, you'd be a goober to leave your battery connected.
Nice video. Did you say the original gap for the spark plug was .04? If you got 168,000 on the originals that's real good. Doing maintenance on your own truck after paying it off years ago & spending a little money to keep it going is still gratifying.
really nice person and very intelligent I was looking for a video to explain in detail including the firing order and this guy did. thanks bro!!

I used a swivel and a 21 inch extension and it was super easy. On the passenger side I just pulled the wheel and liner and again very easy.
Did the same, no harm using a air Ratchet..

So you changed just the spark plugs and wires and everything was good? Did the engine light go off, too?

Stupid question, but I'm assuming you disconnect your battery before starting...

+Ryan Hull might be the wires or the ignition coil

Would recommend using anti seize on threads.
Only if using oem or acdelco. Companies like NGK strongly recommend not using it
how about # 6 & 8?

Should be .045"
how many miles on it
I think that it had around 168,000 miles on it

Austin- Yes, its been a while, but I am pretty sure that I did disconnect the battery. But I dont think it would mess anything up if you didnt.
Most mechanic work is done by touch; especially on front wheel drive vehicles.
The tool he uses is called heavy duty spark plug pliers
