Yeah the only thing that bugged me was how neither Jaina,Sylvanas nor Muradin played any major role in the ICC raid. Tytion while a badass at this point was quiet the side char heck for anyone who did not play the DK starting quest it felt like h came from nowhere
hearing the intro is so nostalgic a couple of days ago I started watching Nobble videos again even though I know all the lore already, there's something pure about this channel and old school WoW Lore.
So, as a player that originally started WoW in Wrath, I literally never realized that Trial of the Crusader was a thing to test who was strong enough to not die in ICC and make the lich king's forces stronger. Awesome as always, Nobbel
5:31 I got an add here that synced up really well and got a good laugh out of me! It went “should he rise from the frozen north... all of Azeroth will- have a cleaning tip from mister clean!”
Played from Open Beta through end of Mists. I really feel like Wrath was the high point. It was finally wrapping up a story I'd been heavily invested in since Warcraft 3. It'll probably remain my favourite expansion for the entire life of the game.
I just noticed while watching the wrath gate cut scene in this video that the gate looks a lot like a maw of Yogg'Saron some how I've never noticed it before
Arthas' story was the reason i started that game and Wotlk will always be a unique exp on every aspect of it! But after so many years and especially after what they did with Arthas in SL i just cant watch anymore, no matter how much i like them, any video about Wotlk lore etc... It just hurts when i bring in mind the current state of story.
WoW used to be a very easy to follow story and that’s what I enjoyed most. Now we have half written narratives that take 3 expansions to cover, and no attempt at making new interesting characters. The lich king is my favorite video game villain by far. Sylvanas and the jailer just make me sad compared to what WoW used to do well at
So sad that Danusser turned Arthas into 35 anima that banished like a hot fart in the air. PS: What surprises does that master writer have in store for us I'm "Dragonlands"? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I loved the early story development, especially when you get the moment of realization of what's going on and what happened, like Muradin Bronzebeard storyline in the storm peaks, which as of this comment, I'm playing through, though their in game story telling has made great strides, not all of the story is there, but in books or other media, which is unfortunate, rather than other media adding onto existing story through other perspectives of the characters - hence why Pyromancer left us, kappa :(
Yes, thank you so much. I have been waiting and hoping for this. I watched some of your other videos recently to refresh on Wrath but I was hoping for a new overview.
Hey, so cool to see that you still do lore vids. I used to watch them as a teen and you made me get deeper into the background lore to the game and a whole new universe opened before my eyes :D You animated me to do the loremaster achievement and to read the quest logs and all that. Brought some WoW novels, especially the "Rise of the Lich King" was my favorite. Prior to that it was just farming xp, grinding inis etc., but then I started to interest me more into the world. Like, whats the story behind this ruin i am doing this quest right now in, and things like that^^
I had barely started playing back then, and I'm kind of sad that I didn't get to discover Northrend and Wrath's lore and story with prior knowledge and context, because this expac was peak Warcraft in all the right ways. We might've hit new gameplay highs and expanded the game in good ways after that, but I don't think any version of WoW ever felt as right in its feel, world building, lore *delivery*, story, characters, plot beats and atmosphere. We got huge lore building reveals that explained a lot yet only made the canon feel bigger and more mysterious; we got familiar and new characters having interesting arcs and plots in every moment and corners; and we got big hype/emotional moments that were earned and had lasting impact. It makes me want to replay every Northrend questline on Retail or keep up with Wrath Classic through the Patches, but I can't help the feeling that it just wouldn't be as good with modern canon/lore context in mind, it might soil it all - I'm tempted to leave it undisturbed in my memories as I experienced it through my young teens...
Pretty much a complete scrub when it comes to WoW, but I’m planning on playing Wrath classic to hopefully experience some of the good things I’ve heard of Wrath through the years. And I have to say, the two dialogue lines at 21:19 have made me extremely hype for no particular reason
A large part of the problem with modern WoW is the story telling. BFA felt disjointed, like two different expansions smashed into one. We had to wait until the next expansion to find out the motivation behind the Sylvanas part of the story, and even then it was extremely lacking and poorly put together. Shadowlands was short on story, and not all of the storytelling was cohesive. Arden weald was beautiful, and the questing told an overall story, but what did any of it have to do with the story of the expansion?? And someone remind me what the motivation behind the Jailer's actions were again?
Speaking of Anub'Rekhan makes me think of Anub'arak. Wasn't that guy suppose to be a powerful badass? Like a real formidable pain in the ass for the Lich King causing him to put all of his effort into defeating Anub'arak? It's kind of a shame he's just a random boss in a regular 5 man dungeon....
Think it might've been a mistake to kill off arthas? I mean at that point he was less a character and more an integral part of the setting overall. The scourge has never been the overwhelming scary force it was since without him. Just knowing he was still around during classic just gave the experience an extra level of depth. Knowing you'd encounter him In some shape or form.
I feel the lore is not as exciting as it was back then - as someone mentioned - the writing was good then. They also had a TON of stuff they could use from Warcraft 3 yet - which seemed to pack a SHIT TON of stuff that could then be used to fuel soooo mannnny expansion! Blizz should have ended WoW at Legion, made a Warcraft 4 to introduce more lore/storylines/history/etc, and then they could have built a brand new engine for WoW, call it "WoW 2" and use Warcraft 4 as to fuel more expansion. /2cents (didnt' meant to write so much, love your lore vids, dude!)
At the events of Warcraft 3 Arthas was a prince, so I guess he was quite young. World of Warcraft released 4 years after the events of the expansion The frozen throne and many staff happened before the Lich King was awaken (the opening of the Dark Portal and the Burning crusade). So I guess aproximately 15 or 20 years lorewise passed from the merging of Arthas with the Lich King till the day he was destroyed. That means Arthas is about 35 - 40 years old when he dies.
@@jonwelsh4354 I was chatting my calculations, it seems Arthas was like 24 years at Warcraft 3 and he died as Lich King at 31 years old. I said he was probably 35-40 when he died. Not so bad.
Canon wise, who win the airship assault boss? wo reah the top of Icecrown and help Tirion in his fight? Or was the air ship fight note canon or something?
So wait the lichking was a tool of the jailer and the dreadlords are made by denathrius and/or the jailer to serve. So why is a dreadlord helping inventing a plague to hurt/kill arthas and the undead?
Love how we killed 2 dragons, an avatar of the old gods, and a demon overlord. Yet the whole world was afraid of one angsty boi and his spooky skelly skeletons. (And after that we just smacked another avatar of the old gods and some keepers for good measurement) +howling fjord was one giant red flag i missed when it comes to the blight betrayel at the warthgate.
Frostmourne was part of ner'zhul, the OG lich King. During the events of warcraft 1 and 2 Ner'zhul became an incredible powerful but tortured soul who want nothing but pain, suffering and death upon all living things. Being trapped in icecrown, ner'zhul saw Arthas as a perfect champion to corrupt and carry out his will. Highly reccoment watching Nobbel's videos on Ner'zhul and on Arthas. They give a good perspective of why Ner'zhul became so evil and why Arthas was so easily corrupted
@@real-oppenheimer Yes ner'zuhl basically possessed/mastered Arthas. Arthas became a twisted dark being. A tale of how seeking power at all costs, even for a good cause (defeating mal ganis), can lead to ruin/corruption/destruction.
@@real-oppenheimer pretty much, again I highly reccomend watching Nobbel's video series of Ner'zuhl and series on Arthas. One of the best written parts of the warcraft universe
I feel that Tirion Fordring was the real hero of wow, he is what players should of been. It was a damn shame that he was not brought back as a death knight in Legion, stopped by Lady Liadrin, perhaps because paladins obtained his weapon, but I feel he would of done a service without it. Even if he diden't wish to become a death knight, he could of done a lot more in the grand scheme of things in which his prior efforts shared, to defeat the legion and restore peace and justice, still could of done so as a death knight. He would of been under Bolvar again.
Some of the scenes that you show in the video, are some of them from machinimas? To me, it certainly looks so. Like from 11:54. Or are they cutscenes from the game?
I think once or twice he uses machinimas (not entirely certain, but 8:09 and 16:27 seems like it). However, 11:54, that you are talking about, was official promotion material used back in the day. They may very well have used machinima methods though.
