Shout out to bookmans! My elementary school best friends mom worked there since I was in 3rd grade and she still works there! Always say hi to her when I visit! Shout out to Donna!
Bookmans is AMAZING, always great finds there. Love the Barbies, HAHA! I’ve gotta get there soon to pick up more hard copies of some of my favorite retro games!
If you're ever in MN let me know! I cant point you in the direction of some cool stores here. Thanks for the content! You inspired me to start buying and selling myself
I was born in '97 so I did manage to go to KB Toys at least for a little bit before they shutdown for good but I mostly got my games from Toys R Us. I remember specifically using money I had saved from Christmas and my birthday to go there and buy the first Lego Star Wars game for PS2. To this day it's still my favorite Lego game ever.
Man i played the first Tomba (Tombi in Belgium) like crazy! Really loved that game! Never was able to play the second one as i didn't even know it existed.
My grandfather managed the Kay-Bee Toys shop in the Mall of Abilene (Abilene, TX) back in the 80's-90's. We were a Sega family. It was great since he loved video games as well. We had just about every Sega Master System cart and card release, along with all the peripherals (light guns, 3D glasses, arcade stick, etc) We also got the Genesis before it went on sale to the public :) plus tons of Genesis games as well. Obviously they had all the Nintendo NES, SNES, GB, GBC, Coleco, etc but we only focused on Sega. He had the Sega "Micro-Stack" which was the Sega CDX with the 32x adapter and the Master System adapter. My uncle thinks he may still have that out in his storage building since my grandfather passed away 4 years ago and we packed up the house.
Excellent organization of the items!!!!…..Gives me Blockbuster Video vibes for some reason…😉❤️….I’m from St. Louis,MO….Places we bought video games (Nintendo, SEGA Genesis, Ps1 & Ps2): Funcoland, WoolWorth (bought River City Ransom on a whim here leaving out, for like $20…..Top 3 GAME EVER for me!…😂👍🏾) JCPenney, Leonard’s TV (mom and pop electronics store…Purchased one of my faves here, Bulls vs Blazers!!!), Grandpa Pigeons (poor man’s Walmart), K-Mart, lastly (and most of all): Toys R’ Us!!!!…….What a time the 1980’s and 90’s were for me!!!!…Lost a lot of people over the past 20yrs (pandemic spared me not)…..Looking back on things like this from my childhood and teens, really comfort me…🥲😢❤️…Arizona has recently been put on my list of places to visit…This store wil be added as well!….👌🏾👍🏾
This reminded me of your old good buddy big Tendo! We need the inside scoop RR! Did he ruin the only good thing in his life and break up with Hannah?!?
WOW this took me back to the 90s so bad. I wish I had been there. I would never leave. I heard you mention Hastings Entertainment. We had one in my town. It was my absolute fav spot to get magazines and books, CDs and music, movies and games. I still have my original Entertainment Passport (membership card). Sadly, ours shut down in 2016. I took pics during the closing days. Every time I see them in my fb memories it makes me cry. Besides Hastings, we also had 3 Blockbusters, 1 used to be a mom and pop store called 2 Day Video, and another mom and pop store called JJ's Video which was my favorite rental store. Sadly, all are gone now. As is our old Toys R Us, and KB Toys and many other old 90s stores. Only Barnes & Nobles survives. Great video Rick. Stay Retro
That was one cool store to see, can't really compare it to any other store I have ever seen. And damn it's HUGE 😮Those magazines, that's indeed something you don't see often anymore... Great video (love the way these are always edited, so much fun to watch) Peace ❤
Lol, I worked at KB Toys all through college. I loved it. So I was there when they went under also. Upper management hired some new people to try to make money and ended up running it into the ground. It was a shame. I got to take a ton of cool stuff with me. Gaming light up signs, a PlayStation Glass shelf and a Nintendo gaming shelf. They are heavy. I miss that place. I hated it when I was there as they paid crap but it was some of the best 4 years of my life. We also had a Hastings in my city. That place was awesome. RIP
It was just a quick pan across an ExoSquad DVD it looked like but that sent a wave of memories. I think I had every ExoSquad figure.. Saddest part was HAD them.
Damn going down memory lane with Retro Rick. That was a great store. A lot of cool items in that store. Those old commercial add in definitely take me back. I appreciate footage as always. Always looking forward to the next
Wish I had something like this around me, I've been taking all the stuff I can't take with me when I move. It would be better than chucking in the trash where it's going.
This is like if Half Priced Books sold toys as well supee place. As far as shopping for games growing up Toys R Us, Target, Best Buy, there was a retro game store in the mall by my house and I can't remember the name. But I did have a Sun Coast in the malls I lived near so I could always get some cool movies growing up.
That is a such a great store and wish we have one in Texas but great video! 11:35 I actually have the Beetleborg The Vampire Files on VHS from when I bought it at a Tom Thumb
This reminds me of the last collection convention I went to. I'm happy events are coming up again near me finally and It's wonderful to see these on youtube also. Retro game prices for some games might be awful but not everything no more. Cool video. ^_^
Retropalooza is going to be a little rough this year. They moved the date to the same date as Retro Expo in North Dallas and that event will have the organal 90s cast of the TMNT movies as guests.
This store looks pretty awesome. Too bad we do not have Hastings or Entertainment anymore. I would usually go to Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and especially Game Point to look for games. I would also love to shop at Pink Gorilla in Seattle and the legendary game stores in Japan such as Hard-Off or Super Potato.
Got most of my games growing up at Walmart,Kmart and pawn shops. I also bought a used copy of NBA live 97 for ps1 at EB games like around the time the OG Xbox came out but I only one game I ever got from EB games. But I always wanted to get the KB toys wrestling action figures but never got one.
Thank you @jrpglife for hanging out with me and showing me a rad store!!!
Thanks for coming, we had a blast! You are welcome to come check out Phoenix retro goodness with us anytime!

You guys are lucky to have stores like these...
Shout out to bookmans! My elementary school best friends mom worked there since I was in 3rd grade and she still works there! Always say hi to her when I visit! Shout out to Donna!
Found a pristine bucky o'hare with the manual at that bookmans for 15 bucks...this was back in 2013 though. I use to live right by that bookmans.
Love the Conkers background music! So nostalgic
Babbages??? Name drop!! Yes I thought I was the only one who remembered that place before GS took over lol. Talk about flashbacks.
Tomba 2, the times I played for hours as a kid, I either owned it and sold to gamestop, or rented as a kid at blockbuster. Memories
I went to kay bee toys, toys r us, video game xchange, preplayed, electronics boutique, and thrift stores for games as a kid
This Bookman's was my childhood! Still visit frequently. The toy section used to be a little coffee shop within the store.
Laughed too hard at Riff plugging his channel there at the end 😅
Toys R Us was my go to store for games :)
I remember seeing Frogger for the PS1 on the shelf and wondering about it.
I literarily just watched JRPGLife video of them going to 3 Bookmans and wishing we had stuff like that in Canada. Now I get to see more! :)
I'm in Phoenix AZ....
Oh snap, Dan & Elisa in 3,2,1
Bookmans is AMAZING, always great finds there. Love the Barbies, HAHA! I’ve gotta get there soon to pick up more hard copies of some of my favorite retro games!
I used to live in Arkansas and absolutely loved going to Hastings 😭 did not know it was gone
Still remember going to Hills, smelling the pretzels, popcorn, and red icee and getting Resident Evil 2 before they closed.....
Stores like this are what I miss they don’t overprice the games like speciality stores will do which is a blessing to bad there aren’t more like it
I wish we had more store like this around where I love yesterday was my bday and didn't get a chance to go picking for games
I live in the Phoenix area and I didn't know about this place... seriously, I'm missing out ... dang
the end of the video with Riff was great .... i love the this channel
If you're ever in MN let me know! I cant point you in the direction of some cool stores here. Thanks for the content! You inspired me to start buying and selling myself
i live next to this bookmans and go there alot its so cool to see you guys go there
A book store named Bookman’s? That’s like a ice cream shop named Cone!😂
you mean Coneheads.

I remember specifically using money I had saved from Christmas and my birthday to go there and buy the first Lego Star Wars game for PS2. To this day it's still my favorite Lego game ever.
Mr. Rif at the end is the best🤣
I bought Tomba 2 at a yard sale for a buck!
Man i played the first Tomba (Tombi in Belgium) like crazy! Really loved that game! Never was able to play the second one as i didn't even know it existed.

The Flight of The Dragons 11:50 looks interesting. I missed this one in the 80's. I'm downloading it now.
Bought NES games at Thrifty drug stores, now it's call Riteaid

I'm so glad that guy said 13 was one of his favorites, good choice. 8 is pretty good as well.. For me it's 9 and 13.
Hooray! Someone else in the world likes 13 😀
@@JRPGLife We're a small crowd but it truly is one of the best, had it's own thing going on which was nice.
@@TBaggingSince1990 I still have dreams about that Vercingetorix fight!

This is like a book off, a Japanese used book store that sells new and used books, dvd, blu-rays, games, toys, and mags.

Man I wish we had shops like this in the UK
It’s called tombi in U.K/Europe, didn’t know it was different in USA!
Love JRPG Life been binging the channel all weekend
I found an original Fireball Island at a thrift shop last week for three bucks. So cool.
There’s a few Vintage Stocks in west Arkansas that remind me of this store. The ones in St. Louis are about as big as that store.
My brother and I drew a lot of blood playing Anticipation. That game literally brought us to violence so many times.
Never had that island game as a kid, but I did play tornado Rex.
Good God. I wish we had this store here in Toronto. This is how I would've set the store up. Looks amazing!
Tomba 1 & Yu gi oh Forbidden memories is my favourite PS1 game, i still play that to this day! its crazy how expensive a sealed copy of Tomba is!
