Hey Tish, great honest review. I wonder, does this version of the HS have much more driver legroom than the previous model? I test drove an HS in 2022 and whilst I thought it was really well put together it had absolutely nowhere near enough legroom for a guy of my height. I'm 6'3" and my legs cramped up within a quarter of a mile cos the seat didn't ho back far enough. It was a shame as this was obviously a deal breaker. I ended up going for a Kadjar. So many new MGs on streets and driveways all around where I live. I think they only look good when they are new or possibly not more than 6 months old. When I went to buy (part exchange) used electric MG5 that was around 20000 miles and less than 3 years old from a MG dealer, I saw that even though it was less than half the price of new but it already had three owners, THREE! So that speaks volumes about MG reliability, that even while in warranty all these owners could not get the plethora of issues sorted and ended up getting rid of the car at a loss to themselves, only for the second and third owner to have the same problems.
I own an MG zs- bought it new after my 1 year old Vauxhall Grandland had to be returned to dealer as they couldn't fix the persistent fault. It hasn't missed a beat in 15 months and I was surprised at first ti find out it shares many parts with the VW group vehicles however it transpires that MG owners, SAIC, manufacture parts for many vehicle companies. Id definitely buy the new one and am really interested in the phev

Great car, but quite expensive, My last car (not an MG) was 10 years ago and £12,000 so I think this MG should be no more than £16,000, do you think they will drop the price soon so that I can afford one?
People are always knocking MG, some of that unreliability is on 5 year old cars and old designs. Had a MG4 for the past year , no reliability issues at all.
@@jamesnicholl8016 that’s honestly really good to hear because it was What car’s second least reliable car behind the Nissan Juke. ‘With issues in almost all of our fault categories, 30% of the cars reported on went wrong. MG only paid for repairs in 55% of cases, leaving 39% of owners with bills of £1000 or more. Repairs weren’t always swift, either; 68% of affected cars took more than a week to put right. The problem areas included non-motor electrics, interior trim, bodywork, motor, sat-nav/ infotainment, battery/charging system, gearbox/clutch and motor electrics.’ So I’m glad you’re part of the 70% but unfortunately these issues do exist.
@@AutoSocialUKI’d really like to know what people are forking out for on a car with a 7 year warranty. Also, when making enquiries about car specs from MG they’ve either been slow or not responded at all and our local MG dealer was thoroughly disinterested when I visited. Bought a Tucson instead. MG customer service seems to be a common complaint.
It’s a fact that no one car is the most popular in every country. European brands dominate there, American brands dominate in America, in Asia Japanese and South Korean brands dominate etc but China is rapidly growing the its own brands which are now beginning to establish themselves throughout the world. In Australia we no longer manufacture vehicles and Japanese and South Korean vehicles have dominated the market but Chinese vehicles have become the low cost option. There had been lots of reluctance from buyers initially but build quality has rapidly improved, reliability has improved and generally considering the long warranties that buyer reluctance waining. The EV market is dominated by Tesla but the cheaper Chinese brands (still not cheap) are rapidly gaining market share. Resale values of Chinese vehicles has been a problem but no worse than European brands with the Japanese brands always being better. If geopolitics doesn’t impact as it appears it may, Chinese vehicles will continue to gain market as their vehicles and their manufacturing technology is surpassing the established brands.
I hope that MG will come to Bulgaria, Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia pretty soon. These are the only EU countries where MG is yet to debut. I assume those markets will get the new HS, as well as the new ZS Hybrid+, MG3, MG4 and Cyberster.
I don’t know why companies like this don’t do partnerships with a Halfords or similar for servicing. People aren’t going to buy a car if the dealer is 100 miles away.

2021 MG HS PHEV Mk1 - 32,000 miles The leather seats have worn quicker than expected, and the infotainment system occasionally crashes. Another point to consider is that servicing or repairing these cars can be complicated. EDIT: it loses value rapidly; mine has lost nearly two-thirds of its value in just three years. 🤯

Take a look at the MG warranty document it hardly covers anything after the first 3 years, plus it’s not just the reliability issues it’s the poor dealers which also contribute to overall poor reliability and ownership experience.
Yes after reading dozens of negative reviews from owners i too downloaded the 7 yr warr and its laughable 12 to 36 months on the majority of things, even only 12m on the 12v battery! Sorry I maybe really simple but I went to view the latest MG Trophy spec & the lady told me that it’s wireless Apple CarPlay and I kept asking ‘so I definitely don’t have to use a cable to link up my phone’ and she said yes it’s wireless is this not the case? @@nataliemichelle9062 Okay that's fair enough. I've currently got a 2020 Qashqai myself, it's been fault free to date. However I do find the electronic handbrake more of a hindrance than something positive. Although most new cars seem to have them fitted now.
I showed interest in an MG4 a few months back. Completed online form and received email confirmation, stating my local dealer would contact me. Never heard a thing, so called them and was assured someone would get back to me. Still waiting, so from that initial experience, I'm sorry to say I wouldn't touch one with the proverbial barge pole! Can you imagine if I bought one and had a problem? The dealerships are not fit for purpose.
The main issue is that when problems arise (which they do on all cars), the MG dealers are not really up to the job in getting any warranty work done on time. I believe this is predominantly a British issue as main dealers in other countries seems ok and up to the job. British car dealers have traditionally made good money from charging extortionate amounts for basic servicing and parts. The same dealers know that customer is restricted to getting routine repairs done at the dealership to avoid losing the warranty. Warranty work itself is dispised by dealers as it takes time for money to be paid by the manufacturer.
@@dt8101 because 99% of new cars have USB-C connections are notoriously better quality, as well as being quicker. I tried 4 USB cables and only 1 worked. That’s not good enough.

Looks nice but I would never buy an unreliable, poorly made Chinese car. The increasing popularity of Chinese brands in the UK is more down to us getting poorer, rather than their products getting better IMO.
@dt8101 Yep. Had to drive a brand new ZS when away with work. Driving position was awful with limited steering wheel adjustment, uncomfortable, smelt cheap, felt cheap, android auto didn't work.....and their 2024 reliability score speaks for itself. If AliExpress made a car...!
@@log874 I can see you don’t like Chinese cars, but things like the driving position isn’t just an MG ZS issue. It’s common in that class of car to have less adjustment than in larger cars - purely down to cost. Not just Chinese brands, European too.
@CharlieGB03 it used to be the case but not so much nowadays. I test drove a Renault Captur yesterday and it was very comfortable (i used to have the old ones as hire cars regularly and they were tight for space). But the steering adjustment was similar to the Austral. As a 6 and a half footer, I'm considering one. You'd have to go as small as the picanto to find an up and down only these days.

Turning off the audible warning when you break the speed limit for filming. How's about you just don't speed 😊
@@Lennon1968 it bleeps every-time the limit changes. For instance 30-40 👍🏼
Its definitely misleading advertising, and sounds like the dealers and MG technical havent got proper support systems set up in the UK to cope .Definitely put me off now .
@@StephenRandall-x6s year agree that warranty document is a joke I think your better off with another manufacturer giving a 3 warranty as it actually covers more than.
The cab,e you have used is Power only, hence it not working.
They’re both exactly the same. I tried them all. It was the cable, used a higher quality one and it worked.
It has to be a high speed data cable.
The Chinese car manufacturers have some really good finance deals on new cars. Why would want to buy a 5 year old Volkswagen with the first owners bum crust all over the seats when you can have a new car for the same price 😂
Just ordered trophy auto, under motability .. £30k worth of car!
My HS is great. No issues in 2 years of ownership. Sounds like a Anty Chinese snobbery
Sorry I maybe really simple but I went to view the latest MG Trophy spec & the lady told me that it’s wireless Apple CarPlay and I kept asking ‘so I definitely don’t have to use a cable to link up my phone’ and she said yes it’s wireless is this not the case?
I currently have a Qashqai and one thing I love is that unlike my sister I don’t have to connect my phone via cables.
@@nataliemichelle9062 maybe see if you can get some clarification from the brand. I linked my phone via Bluetooth and that’s all it did… Bluetooth. Maybe I missed something but I tried for ages. It’s likely I’m the simple one 😂
@@AutoSocialUK yes, I’m definitely going to get some clarification I’m just a little weirdo and can’t stand cables being around so it would bug me. I had a temporary car recently , the Volvo something and that was the same really up there with technology but yet you had to use a cable for Apple CarPlay which just baffled me haha.
Keep your Qashqai.
@@UrbanNomad883 I do like my Qashqai but I’ve had an intermittent issue with it since I got it which has made it annoying to drive. The dealership can’t seem to figure it out.
@@nataliemichelle9062 Okay that's fair enough. I've currently got a 2020 Qashqai myself, it's been fault free to date. However I do find the electronic handbrake more of a hindrance than something positive. Although most new cars seem to have them fitted now.
Its not a 7yr warranty only thing that is is paint when othrr makers give thdt ten. Most things are three yrs some are only 6 months.
You should have turned off all the bongs before you set off
The main issue is that when problems arise (which they do on all cars), the MG dealers are not really up to the job in getting any warranty work done on time.
The title on the video miniature is quite passive aggresive 😢
Looks nice but MG has been the most unreliable car brand for a while .
Looks like an F-Pace
Why do you blame this car’s interior quality when the cheap low quality USB cable is to blame? Weird.
@@dt8101 because 99% of new cars have USB-C connections are notoriously better quality, as well as being quicker. I tried 4 USB cables and only 1 worked. That’s not good enough.
Very annoying red coat accent as in "the red coats are coming".
I am comparing this with BYD Sealion 7 SUV.
Get an adapter costs pence… dear me 😮

See what car. Mg 31st out of 31 for reliability..
I take it you didn’t watch any of the video? 🤔
Toyota is worried ..Mg3 is far better than Yaris

😂more and more petrol Chinese car is coming and people in the uk keep spending money on petrol station and more Tax to be received from government. Well done, happy for eutope car company😂😂😂😂
I'd buy 1 then take the badges off.. 😅😊😅
haha good idea Rodger.... stick a Lexus badge on there
Looks nice but I would never buy an unreliable, poorly made Chinese car. The increasing popularity of Chinese brands in the UK is more down to us getting poorer, rather than their products getting better IMO.
Fair view-point but I do think it is a mix. There are some good products for sure but nowhere near perfect.
lol. Did you drive any Chinese cars? How did you know they are not getting better.
Rear visibility looks poor
Not another MPV and it's an MG
If you believe the reviews reliability is it's problem and residuals are likely to be affected.
Looks like you have to turn all the bleeping gimmicks off every time you start the car - real pain.
Is it so difficult to change settings before driving or on traffic light ..... Cherry picking
