I have the PHEV. My display is fast. I had one issue so far. The drivers display went off intermittently. Took it back to MG and it needed a IPK update that has resolved it. It also has voice control for windows up and down etc. With the USB A and cable for Android Auto you can buy a £20 usb that makes it wireless. The driver distraction that you mention literally takes 15 seconds if that to turn off. You can adjust the steering sensitivity which gives better feedback. Even when the safety monitor is on its not that bad. Also the power is instant on the PHEV. Must be your driving. Lol. Great video, test the PHEV next, awesome car.
I have just discovered The House Of Cars channel and watched this review as i am considering a new HS to replace my 11 Yr old Kuga. As I also work at an MG dealership i have driven the previous HS and was impressed with it. I haven't driven the new one yet but your video gave me a great insight into it warts and all Great detailed review well done 👍 I have liked and subscribed
Great review as always and I agree with all you said I have the HS trophy Couple of points I like to make So to the question would I have bought the previous HS model Definitely no did not like anything about it But this new model is better in every way So The driver cluster you can chose 3 different views I use the sat nav one You can easily convert apple car car play to wireless with a dongle off Amazon just plug into left usb socket and it connects ever time wirelessly But turn off Bluetooth as it conflicts I shut off driver attention stuff every time yes a nightmare and yes it resets after turn off It’s the law unfortunately Auto box on kickdown a bit slow to respond but acceleration from start not bad Steering has 3 settings A bit Woolly around corners Stop start on my car hardly ever shut off and yes you can turn it off but guess what it resets each drive
Thanks for the review very helpful. I just got a HS trophy its not beeping at me much regarding not paying attention to the road probably a different driving style. What i am finding annoying is driving in poor weather the front camera keeps alerting as visibility blocked and it beeps away telling me speed detection and ACC not available due to this. So far a stop and a clean of the camera has sorted but there could be a better way to keep it clean automatically
It has something to do with it, but it’s more to do with how responsive the engine is working with the transmission, and not just the gearbox on its own that’s at fault I’d say.
We bought the PHEV Trophy version a few weeks ago, and we are delighted! The PHEV version has a good acceleration even when just using the electric motor, and if you put the foot down the petrol engine kicks in to give you a 0-60mph in about 7 seconds. I definitely recommend getting your own charger installed. You can do almost all of your driving in EV mode and it can save you a lot of money on the petrol you won't need to buy.
Where do you get all hell breaks loose ?? You can hardly hear it ? Far from all hell breaks loose :( it’s reminds me of a train in cowboy films choo choo over in the distance ?
I guess you could argue the Marvel R is sort of a posher HS electric, and from what I've read there is a new one coming later in 2025, likely on bespoke EV architecture, just as the ZS EV is getting replaced with the bespoke MG 5 electric
You used most of the driving section telling us over and over that its not sporty. Its not supposed to be, neither do 90% of buyers care. What was your fuel economy? Did you use a noise meter to test refinement?
I don’t think I harbour the fact it isn’t “sporty” as I know that isn’t what the car is about. The point I’m making is that it isn’t as responsive as it should be. That’s not the same thing. But I take your point about the fuel consumption. I don’t have a noise meter and can’t use my phone for that, but I should have mentioned economy. Point noted. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
Just trading my Grand Cherokee 2015 in for the PHEV it doesn’t have vehicle to load the brochure says it does MG have now told dealers to make people aware of this ,it cannot also charge the traction battery fully from the engine like the outlander can two big mistakes they have made I was looking forward to be able to use the car in power cuts
I went to look at this car, it look good value for money and was an improvement over the old. However the fact you could not get a sunroof in any spec ruled it out. Funny as it comes with one in other markets.😠
You said you were going to go into the real life fuel efficiency figures, either you didn’t or I missed it? 😅 Secondly I’ve got to pick you up on saying that the plug in hybrid may be an option for town/low mileage users. The maths don’t stack up for me, it’ll take many years to claw back the extra cost of the plug in version if you’re a say a 5/6k miles a year driver. The warranty will be just about finished to break even. I think the annoying alarms could be the main deal breaker for me. If it’s legislation fair enough, but perhaps make it a one button switch off affair rather than have to go through each alarm.
@@gatehanger1385 their engineering department is in Longbridge. And irrespective of where it’s built, it’s still an MG. Aston Martin first built its Rapide in Austria. Didn’t make it less of an Aston.
You really talk crap about the noise you can ardly hear it? mines way lower than that mate in passenger seat can't hear it? I've the new petrol mg HS trophy and it's like and old film where train is in distance? but your right about the acceleration you need to be going before foot goes down, they give you two usb c adapter in new car
I should say that the morning I filmed this review, I had gone to my usual filming location, but only to find out that it was full of people dog-walking and parking up to go for walks. In a bit of a panic (as I had no more time left, as the car was going back the next day) as I needed to film a different car that afternoon in Oxfordshire, I chose a spot next to a busy road. Its not something I will be doing in future, but being pushed for time, I had little option that morning.
The Mazda CX-5 is far superior and retains its value over the next 20 years, achieving a fuel efficiency of only 6L/100 km. In contrast, the MG from SAIC Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation will cost much more to operate and will be worth virtually nothing in just a few years.

Just an update, screen issue again so car needs to go back. Not a great start. Please let me know if anyone else has issue with blank screen?

@@mish6568not yet. Still back at the garage. Dropped it last Friday afternoon.
New screen had to be ordered.Still awaiting repair to be done. Will let you know outcome.

Great review as always and I agree with all you said
I have the HS trophy
Couple of points I like to make
So to the question would I have bought the previous HS model
Definitely no did not like anything about it
But this new model is better in every way
So The driver cluster you can chose 3 different views I use the sat nav one
You can easily convert apple car car play to wireless with a dongle off Amazon just plug into left usb socket and it connects ever time wirelessly
But turn off Bluetooth as it conflicts
I shut off driver attention stuff every time yes a nightmare and yes it resets after turn off
It’s the law unfortunately
Auto box on kickdown a bit slow to respond but acceleration from start not bad
Steering has 3 settings
A bit Woolly around corners
Stop start on my car hardly ever shut off and yes you can turn it off but guess what it resets each drive

Thank you for a detailed review, I would like to know how it compares to the plug in version, hope this video is coming soon 🤞
That’s a huge improvement
it just got a 5 star in euro safety test, Bravo MG
Please review the Nissan Qashqai...
how to stop alert speed for ever. i turn it off every time i start the car please help
You can’t. That’s the point. These safety systems default on. It’s the new legislation.
Put a piece of black tape over camera
When you say take a while to respond at junction? Is that because it's automatic transmission?
It has something to do with it, but it’s more to do with how responsive the engine is working with the transmission, and not just the gearbox on its own that’s at fault I’d say.

I’ve had an Audi A3 PHEV since 2015 and done 107,000, considering the HS because of its electric range and value for money!
Where do you get all hell breaks loose ?? You can hardly hear it ? Far from all hell breaks loose :( it’s reminds me of a train in cowboy films choo choo over in the distance ?
Is there not an electric version of the HS seems a bit of a miss ?? But MG nailed the design across all its range

I've read that MG parts are difficult to find and expensive. Does anyone have actual owner's experience on this?

How about reviewing the MG ZS Hybrid+ ?
It’s on the cards…..
Remember it's touch sensitive not push sensitive

The brochure says it does V2L with the use of an adaptor.
@ yes I’ve seen it the brochure is incorrect which is a shame MG are going to amend the brochure
MG giving bad trade in values so may reconsider
prices to sell , weak mpg on ice but long warranty for engine ,axle and gearbox
Doesn't look like an MG looks like the Genesis from the front.
It might undercut others but would I want an MG
When you get this car new they give you two usb c adapters 👍
We just bought the new MG HS. The beebs dont happen if you drive the car properly. After sales , guys have been fantastic.
I went to look at this car, it look good value for money and was an improvement over the old. However the fact you could not get a sunroof in any spec ruled it out. Funny as it comes with one in other markets.😠
Odd, isn’t it? I like a sunroof.

Sticking an MG badge on it doesn't turn a Chinese car into an MG, regardless of it's merits. 😂
But it is an MG. It was designed, engineered and built by the MG car company. At what point does that not make it an MG?

What would happen if you put a plaster over the attention Sensor? 😆
It would constantly go off as it is obscured, so that would be worse!
Have they sorted out the DAB issue yet, cos mine is fucking terrible 😮😂
😂😂😂

the company that hit rock bottom in the reliability tables its cheap for a reason
Mg has the worst ratings in car , and aftersales, satisfaction, basically they are not very good.
BYD seal U , 31k bigger better faster, more kit etc 6 year warranty??
Yes, but more money.
You can only design a shoebox in so many ways
I'd be inclined to put black tape over that driver attention monitor that's attached on the pillar.
It would constantly go off if you did. People have tried and anything obscuring the camera alerts the car.
£2109.72 for the 5 years service plan think I’m going to cancel my order
Mine was £30 a month for the PHEV. Think you been ripped off there.
2 years free servicing when buying new

MG.............Ignored!
Still looks dreadful. Fake exhausts? Really?
Oat new cars have fake exhausts. VW Audi skoda vauxhall all have fake ones have a look and no I don't have an mg

The stats don't back up that claim whatsoever. In fact MG sits close to the top of the ladder for retained value.
It is but it's very expensive for the price of the mg there ok
