I've had seven Fiestas in a row over the years and finally went over to the Puma in 2024, It's a great car nice to drive has extra load space and it still fits in my garage.
Ford Kuga did the same and took away the physical buttons and put them on the touch screen. I've been buying ford for about 20 years (mondeo, kuga), first time I'm going somewhere else next year. A push button you look at once then you press it. Touch screen requires you to take your eyes off the road for a much longer period and i find it fiddly just to switch something on or off. Im not a fan at all. And dont get me started with voice control. Keep what works, buttons work. I like your reviews, straight to the point and meaningful comments, hence why i subscribed.
@@michaelharradine8632 Never got on with it, in fact voice control just winds me up! When I need the temperature set, I just want to push a button or twist a knob, not have a conversation with the car. In the past I've gotten into rages when I've given up trying to say the right word to switch something off or on, when the button is right in front of me. Then it doesn't understand the word "CANCEL!!!" for some reason. Also, the features that I DO want to voice control because they're hidden in a menu somewhere (whilst I'm driving), aren't available!! i.e. "turn the adaptive headlights off" - "do you want to...turn the heating off?" - "NOOO CANCEL".
Tbh Ford touch buttons are at least constantly visible and in the same spot. They did feel a bit weird first, but not too bad. Usually I set it once and it’s good for most situations. I do hate when you have to dig through 5:00 several extra menus (often over-designed)to adjust things.
Good review Tish. As far as I'm aware the Puma has never had a wet timing belt, as the ecoboost fitted to Puma was chain driven from day 1. I believe it does drive the oil pump via a wet belt though. Merry Christmas to you!
@@whitemoor66 it’s actually really tricky to research and get a clear answer to this. Especially as I’m not sure if there were differences in production the the UK and US models.
Wheels, digital instrument display, touchscreen heater controls, speaker system across the top of the dashboard, & especially that huge squared-off steering wheel…are all totally hideous!
Another great review Tish such an underrated presenter. I love the little Puma I’m glad it’s still going one thing I’ve noticed as a driver behind one is the rear indicators seem very dull I dunno if anyone else has noticed. 😂 yes I am that weird.
Got a puma st line x and definitely one of the best cars I’ve owned! It’s comfortable very nippy and I get excellent mpg definitely when the time comes I’ll get another one 👍
Although the cam is chain driven there remains a small 'wet' belt for the oil pump. However, from many YT videos on changing Ford wet belts, it seems that belt degradation was mainly related to the cam belt (eventually blocking the oil pick up filter), but the oil pump belts (which were under little strain) were usually still in good condition (but changed anyway). I think it was due to the different materials used for each belt. The small oil belt needs replacing by year 10/150k miles. Baz Meredith videos are excellent on the cam belt and oil belt change on Fords.
Title is a little misleading because the Puma has always had chain driven camshafts since it was introduced in 2019 although the oil pump is still driven by a small wet belt.
I have the st line x, facelift, I find the puma quite cramped inside compared to my previous skoda kamiq, It's my first automatic car, after 30 years off driving manual, what's your view of the gearbox, some journalists say it's not very good.
The cars okay, I like the colour, it's cute. Not sold on the van steering wheel however, feels like a Christmas Tree in October. On a side note, you look amazing!! your hair matches your outfit super well. You'd run a great fashion channel!! Since it's December and I don't know if your gonna upload before new year. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! I hope you and your family have a wonderful and happy holidays! ❤️
I don’t believe it is correct to say “no more wet belt”. My understanding is that the cams are now chain driven, but unfortunately Ford continue to drive the oil pump with a wet belt., so still a liability needing extra cautious maintenance schedules.
Oil pump still has a rubber belt I believe , heater vents look odd location , screen too big , steering wheel too big, b & o location odd , topping up the oil regularly wasn’t the issue degradation of the belt in hot oil creating bits to block oil pick up strainer and oil starvation , puma owner
One of the problems with climate in the screen is the first start up time and getting the blowers on to clear the screen without having to wait the best part of a minute. Or it was a few years ago
Nice review. You didn’t cover the driving profiles though. I have the 2023 Ford Puma ST-LINE. Personally I find physical climate dials more robust to use while driving in a motorway, as opposed to touching the touch screen in the infotainment.
I am a fan of Ford Puma 👍... which is produced - for Europe - in the Craiova plant - in România. That's why I make a sugestion for the managers of this plant: to bring - in 2025 - an LPG version ... which - also - will give a better purpose for the mega-box ... to put the toroidal LPG tank. An LPG version - in my opinion - will double their sales - which are - already - pretty good.
Titanium is now entry level!! Ford really do think its potential customers as mugs. Its not really that long ago titanium was intented to go above top of the line ghia models. They really do think that by continually shunting all the trim levels along one every few years that that their lessening number of returning customers think they are getting a better car than their last one.
It's a shame you didn't talk about the unreliability of the old ecoboost engines when you reviewed the previous versions of this car!!!! Anyway I guess the breaking news is a better engine, (fingers crossed!) with a ruined interior with touch screen controls that have already been identified as dangerous to use on the move. In future reviews, if you want to demonstrate how easy it is to adjust the climate control via a touch screen, do it while driving along in heavy rush hour traffic. Show us how easy it really is!!!!!🙄
I've owned two Fiestas and a Focus. Great cars. But Ford have lost the plot in recent years - that interior looks really awkward. The massive steering wheel, dashboard speaker and air vents. It just looks bad!
Ford have worked hard to make this car unattractive, it looks anonymous with the badge moved. Van steering wheel???? Very up market. The bolt on B&O looks awful. Low slung seating? Many people driving the car will not be tall, I hope the seat is adjustable. Dont forget most owners will not be thrashing this car round corners, needing a lower centre of gravity. Visitbility out is far more important especially when driving in traffic or parking, Very poor. Noisy engine? How lovely. No good rear seating room? Well, Ford have pulled out all the stops on this car! Getting rid of the wet belt is the only good thing on any Ford, they were only there for Ford to make money anyway. Otherwise, bad car/good review..

You can control most things by voice control or hands free voice control on some models. Ok ford set temperature at 20°!

I was thinking the same. I’ve the Puma ST and I know it has a timing chain but still as a belt driven oil pump.
Wheels, digital instrument display, touchscreen heater controls, speaker system across the top of the dashboard, & especially that huge squared-off steering wheel…are all totally hideous!
I think the oil pump is still wet belt driven, so the issue is only partly solved.

Hi it's got steering off a Austin allegro with more padding does look strange

I found the Kamiq to be better on ride quality, noise, handling, and interior space.
I have moved over to Skoda from Ford. Far better customer service and the build quality and handling is better.

Unfortunately the new Ford Puma still has a small wet belt for the oil pump, it's only taken Ford 12 years to change the main wet belt.
I don’t believe it is correct to say “no more wet belt”. My understanding is that the cams are now chain driven, but unfortunately Ford continue to drive the oil pump with a wet belt., so still a liability needing extra cautious maintenance schedules.

Old handbrake is reliable its a pity more car makers dont have it as a option still on there cars
I noticed this too 👍🏻
@@GrahamReid34yeah absolutely, far better than the stupid electric handbrake 🎉
10:30 Looks like they got the screens from eBay and stuck them on. The fastest Puma is the electric version.

I was aghast at that steering wheel although it will make it easier to see the instruments.

Vauxhall frontera fully electric & petrol is only £23k. Would be good for a head to head with this
Has anybody taken a tape measure to see if the steering wheel is bigger than the last one ,and if so how much larger.
Dash looks way behind class leaders
Chain has been around since 2019 just some people can't accept it

Shame that under boot floor space doesn't house a spare wheel😢
It does, it's a £200 optional extra.
Don't like the big van steering wheel, should be a nice small one. Can see they did it because of the big digital dash
Predicted depreciation...?
Wet belt on oil pump so still a big problem when belt go's bang so will the engine a stupid idea
Is the european union not bringing into law that they need basic buttons in csrs that its not all meant to be touch screen
I think customers should decide things like that tbh.
Nice wee car but I don't like the stupidly big steering wheel and the heating controls on the screen amongst other things.
...electric Puma arrived before the convertible model your insider suggested!??? 😂
Ford offer no small cars in Australia, so no Ford Puma here. Maybe Ford will withdraw from Australia altogether, who knows !
Sounds like a tank I hate my puma

The new ford puma has copied Hyundai’s Wheels
I think Ford will regret their decision to delete the Fiesta and next year the Focus
the moment I saw the details of the new puma it gave me pause, to go and buy a renault
good luck with renault cr ap,,,, you will need it,,,,,,,,
@travel8033 yeah as woth any car, at least renault as a track records of reliability much better than these fords
For me was the small rear doors and the limited space in the back the reason not to buy the great driving Ford Puma.
Great review . They have spoilt the looks, inside and out. I won't be buying one now.
The Peugeot 2008 has a small steering wheel and a better interior
Mustang 5.0 V8 also available from Ford, if you want to help a dying manufacturer.
Audio level is very low.
I like the handbrake but don't like the rest of the car especially the steering wheel from a austin allegro 😂
Still wouldn’t buy one. Great review though Tish
