Health Warnings About Eating Oats/Oatmeal, Especially For Breakfast!
=
Watching this video you'll understand why I've made a video about eating oats along with the benefits and the negatives of eating oats but most importantly, you'll discover why it can be dangerous for your health.
#drsamrobbins #oats #cancer
A viewer asked the following:
“Hello Dr. Sam - I wanted to know if you eat oatmeal. I eat a big bowl every morning and I wanted to know if this is good or bad? I heard it’s full of vitamins, fiber and good for lowering my cholesterol, blood sugar and weight loss. It’s also good for energy. Thus, like a perfect food. Do you agree? Thanks boss!”
This is correct, improvements in cholesterol, blood sugar, weight loss and energy levels are the primary reasons people eat oatmeal - other than the obvious reason that they like how it tastes.
The Benefits of Oats/Oatmeal
To begin, oats are grains and have lots of vitamins and minerals, so they are very nutritious. Especially when compared to other grains.
They also contain a good amount of soluble fiber and beta-glucan [glue-can], which helps with cholesterol levels.
Now, it doesn’t lower blood sugar, but it has a decent glycemic load and thus, doesn’t raise blood sugar levels that much. Certainly not like your typical breakfast cereals.
In fact, the “steel cut” oats are the healthiest because they are minimally processed, which means higher fiber and lowest effects on blood sugar.
Even though oats are naturally gluten free, make sure you purchase one that says it on the label. This is because during the manufacturing process, the machines can touch other foods that do have gluten and will cross contaminate.
Negatives Of Oats/Oatmeal
Most people do have oatmeal in the morning for breakfast. I don’t do this and warn against it.
This is because oatmeal is high in the amino acid tryptophan, which helps produce serotonin… a chemical which can cause a calming and relaxing effect. If fact, you take tryptophan at night to put you to sleep.
Speaking of sleep, oats also contain melatonin, the sleep hormone.
So the point is, the last thing you want to do is eat a food for breakfast that causes a calming, relaxing, sleeping effect. Instead of eating it in the morning, eat it in the evening to help give you a restful and deeper sleep.
In the morning, have proteins, fats, vegetables and maybe some fruit. Whole pasture raised eggs, veggies and some blue berries for example.
Great for your body and brain.
Oats Can Be Toxic With Pesticides
Lastly, I want to mention something very important about oats, toxicity and pesticides.

I'll only eat water from now on.
have you been paying attention to the video? I haven't said "Don't eat oats!"
What can we eat? Everything we touch now has some sort of health hazard connected to it!🤷🏽♀️ .
Oatmeal with bananas is one of my favourite food.
I consume oats in the morning. I am calm all day. Nothing wrong with that. And I'm not lazy.
Probably what's worse for your health is sitting in front of a computer watching all the things you shouldn't be eating but are or have and getting stressed. Stress kills.
bad nutrition kills too Critchley
I’ve been dead for 74 years and did not know it, that damn oats!
DAMN NO MORE OATS!!! IT WILL BECOME A TIME WHEN WE CAN'T EAT ANYTHING BUT AIR.
I haven't said to stop eating oats!
I’m still gonna eat my overnight oats every morning :)
I eat oatmeal Every Morning! With bananas and cranberries then I go back to sleep! I'm over my mid 60's and good.
Oatmeal gives me energy. Everything will kill. Eat what you want in moderation and exercise.
Rice has arsenic. Oats roundup. Beans lectins. Meat eggs all sorts of issues. Milk no bueno. Berries only diet. Next!
Summary:
Oats are great!
Oats are better steel cut,
Oats are better at night and finally...
Oats will kill you!
Great video! You really nailed it!
Bottom line is too much of anything will kill you. Enjoy life. Eat in moderation. Try sticking to whole foods and stay active.
moderation is key in everything!
Breathing is no longer good for you I heard.
lol... yeah.. of course fresh air is better than polluted air Bobo
I will never stop eating oats especially uncontaminated with frozen berries, small banana, steamed greens with balsamic vinegar and salad leafs. Eat like a king for breakfast after 14 hours fasting, always felt energised. 💪
Everyone is different
bottom line Oats work for me
I love porridge and always did ,its a tradition and especially with blueberries turmeric, cinnamon and honey 👍
We continue to avoid foods because of health reasons instead of going after Monsanto who is causing it?? No logic there!
an individual can't go after big companies so the best thing each of us can do is vote with our wallets by buying healthy foods that are natural!
thank's for ur advice Dr.
Sam now i know❗️👍
,Thank you Dr Sam..I'm learning more on oatmeal about this video.🙂👍💯
I don’t eat oatmeal often but I make sure to purchase organic when I do. Thanks
This explains why I always pass out mid rep doing squats or bench press, I eat oats before morning workout.
Organic steel cut oats with a smoothie in the morning works great for me.
i never could understand why after oats i felt much more relaxed and willing to take a nap, thank you a lot !
you're welcome to share it with someone
Seems to me that in today's stress filled environment something soothing and calming is just what people need to start their day.
Everything in MODERATION. END OF STORY.
yes, moderation is key!
watching this while having apple oatmeal for breakfast.
I love my morning oatmeal and I’ll keep having it 💯
in the end, it's your choice
Thanks for this video very helpful.
I have IBS-D .Oatmael is my staple diet. It helps me live a normal life.
Thank you for the info!! Dr Robbins!!
I am vegan and most of the food that I buy it is organic. I think there are too many crazy things going on in this world to worry about everything that we eat people don't know what to say anymore they need to make up their mind. first they say it's healthy and then they say it's not. I thank the Lord for everything that I eat and to bless my food 😇🙏❤
This make sense, whenever I eat it, it makes me sleep
Maybe this is why I always feel tired, lethargic and like my brain isn’t fully awake until about 1:00 in the afternoon. I’ll try eating it in the evening and see what happens. Thanks
I tried eating oats at night (dinner)
It makes me feel more good and it works on my diet.
thanks for sharing that with us Ying
Thanks Sir, always appreciate your information, you saved me 💕

I must admit I do notice the sleepy effect when I eat oats in the morning.👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
thanks for sharing
ghe only problem of meals in this century is that planters put too much chemicals while planting every thing
Now I understand y I always felt asleep during classes
Every time I think I’ve got something good....
Thank's doctor for helping 👍👍
It was useful and informative, thank you Dr. Robbins!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I use steel cut oats and let it soak in water and apple cider vinegar for 1 to 2 days. I then rinse it thoroughly and then cook it in whole milk, peanut butter and crushed pecans. It's very filling and the addition of fat from the milk and pb makes it take longer to digest, which is extra good for diabetics. The soaking in water and vinegar helps break it down so that when cooked, it's very easy to digest and you don't get very gassy, a problem I used to get from plain oats....I'd also add that I have this occasionally, not every day. Cheers!.
sounds good, just make sure you eat organic ones
@@drsamrobbins Yup, from a whole foods store in Vancouver. Thx for the response!
Every grain, fruit and vegetables is sprayed with chemicals in some manner. Meat is pumped with hormones and antibiotics. Fish is full of heavy metals. So this is all a bit pointless really.
you're right, but we can still have some guidelines on what we'll eat so we can improve our health as much as possible
Eat 1 apple with 1 glas water and you feel so good and active.
I have been taking oats for my breakfast for at least 20 years now,and I still continue eating it till now.
good for you
Wow.. this helps.. I used to fall asleep behind the wheel in the mornings on my way to work after oatmeal breakfast. And had to give it up. Now I know why
are you joking?
I like this doctor ..he actually replies to the comments
yes, I put a lot of focus on these comments Miguel
Thanks for yet another educative video, Dr Sam. Keep at it sir.

you're welcome
Thank you from India.
Right when I was about to make oatmeal..
Thank you doctor, i am so happy i came across your video.
Glad it was helpful!
I looked up the "popular brands" that were not specified in this video. They were all Quakers and General Mills. Store-name brands had significantly less and most organic brands were non-detectable. Just do a little more research on which brands not to buy 🙄
buy organic whenever possible. worried about the price, eat less and come out ahead. you probably could handle smaller portions anyway. and if possible, purchase local and get to know your farmer
great advice!
I have spent years eating oatmeal for breakfast. I have found it to provide me more energy than anything else I have ever eaten for breakfast. I am often good to skip lunch altogether.
Interesting!
Move to SCOTLAND and eat porridge whenever you like!
:))
I still will eat 200 g of oats everyday, great food.

Now I know when im going to take the oatmeal!
I'm glad I could hellp
I just started an oatmeal (Steel Cut Organic) breakfast regiment, because of my wife's diabetes and my obesity. Searching for "oats melatonin tryptophan" brings up a number of supporting pages for this video. Time to consolidate this with the Rosedale diet.
. The title probably should have been "Things To Know..." I almost didn't watch it. Time to discuss meal times with the wife!
I'm confused
Thanx DOC !! Love ur info.
Ur the man. 👍👍

Thank you for the oatmeal tips. Definitely oats is a carby food - best for a late night snack for sleepiness. Also in moderation, and a no pesticide or chemical version. Not everything is meant to be eaten. Have a great day!
you're welcome to share it Trish
Now I know why I feel lethargic after eating oatmeal!
Great video! Glad to know that I am not crazy-I always get extremely sleepy after eating oatmeal so I never eat for breakfast. Mystery solved as to why that happens to me!
I'm glad I could help you Jennifer!
Thank you for replying. I think we need to hit the reset button on the agriculture in this country and have the american people stand up and change the process of planting so its not just for the rich. Perhaps we need our own gardens etc. This may upset what people have been use to supermarkets etc.but again i mean totally hitting the reset button on this topic
Great tip...I used to feel so sleepy after having oatmeal in the morning unlike other breakfast options.
thanks for sharing your feedback Annette... I hope more people see it!

Every time I eat oatmeal I get really bad stomach cramps. I'm definitely allergic to oats. The cramps are so bad that it makes me feel ill and it feels like my stomach would blow up.
Thanks. Your video finally helped me figure out why i feel sleepy after eating oatmeal.
Glad I could help Good Kaja!
Oatmeal and organic brown sugar with strawberry and banana and blueberries and peanut butter and cinnamon powder, Greek yogurt and chocolate protein powder add in blender, i eat oatmeal for lunch, instead of breakfast, rather have a protein from sausage and eggs and English muffins or bagels 🥯, try eating breakfast a few hours later when wake up , your body needs time to clean up from your previous meal.
Thanks for giving a new perspective
