- Leah and I begin our longest chapter of driving from the entire trip, and thankfully we've picked up an RV to make things a little more comfortable... but it's also pretty expensive. 😬

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a tourist in your own country. Most people don’t know their own country well. And Canada is so fabulous.
That’s what we’re going for! 🤷🏻♂️😅
And Canada is BIG - I live in the Netherlands and have been a tourist in my own tiny country very often 😅
Just in the last 4 months I've flown from Philadelphia to California 3 times, Arizona twice, and Texas twice, I love being a tourist in my own country! Absolutely nothing wrong with it, North America is a truly beautiful place.
5:45 Leah's so stinkin' sweet. Every man needs a woman like that in their lives. I really do love the relationship you two have together. Safe travels!
Side of the bed Problem: turn 180° so your head is on the other side and you get your side of the bed 😁
I have loved following your travels but now you're in your country and mine. I'm just back from a month overseas when I was (for the 1st time ever) HOMESICK for the green variety of Canada. Show me lakes and skies! And trees - as you travel they should be leafing out. Yay!
Lol, you guys are so cute together. You make me sick. 😂 Kidding! I'm so jealous!
Hey guys, I am soooo very happy that you guys are making me laugh!! I lost my brother this week and you guys are real sunshine for me today!!!!!! What a wonderful idea, this class C. As I have often said, their is not "a" perfect rig, but, we as individuals make it work. As you already know, we have a Nissan NV 200 and we just make it work for us. Glad you enjoyed your first night. A little heads up... if you do not want the toilet to smell, try not to put your paper toilet in. Stay safe, can't wait for next weeks video and god bless.
We are so sorry to hear this! 😢 but thank you for being here and we’re so glad that we could be a positive moment in your day 🥰
@@LeahandLevi thank you and be safe on the road. 😊
A few things to consider. That is nice and small to get around with. You need 20 feet / 6.096 meters or longer to not have the toilet in the shower. Sounds like a Murphy bed will be perfect for you and then RV. The fifth wheel will give you the most place for the shortest length.
I think I would have liked my sink over the toilet to reuse water and make space. Then covers on the sink and burners for prepping food. I LOVE the outside painting and the clean modern look inside.
That’s a great idea!
See, the upper bunk is for the baby/kids and the lower bed is for the adults. 😁 Kids are definitely something that needs to be considered in deciding which rig to go with. I've got three, so things like van life are maybe not impossible, but probably not too comfortable.
Yeaaaaah three would be pretty challenging 😅
You too are great! RV Black Tank Repair Techs literally recommend not using that stuff. I was suprised too. Half Calgon (water softener) and Half Pine Sol instead will prevent lots of problems.
Whaaaaat? That’s so weird! We didn’t really know what else to do so I guess we didn’t need to get it but whatever 🤷🏻♂️
Every Saturday I wake up excited to see the new episode. This new experience reminds me when I was a kid and was traveling with my parents around Central America in a RV 😊
Woah that sounds like an adventure! 😳 thanks for tuning in friend 🙏🏼
Omg I know exactly where you are next episode 😂 love this, you guys are doing so good!!!
Have fun guys! And safe drive!
So glad you'll have a much more comfortable set up as you head across Canada! Safe travels!
Do you think the Prius was a little bit jealous? Ha ha ha. I think it’s always good to check out other ideas for camping before a big purchase or a build
Not me feeling sad because you have to drive separately😭 miss and love y’all♥️
Fantastic watch as always 🙏🏿
I was always a bit jealous about the roads in America - they are made for comfort driving (even inside of a small bus lol) in comparison to thin European streets. On the other hand we have much shorter distances and more things to see while driving 😊
It's so cool watching this journey! I've been a viewer for years, but this video and the last one really hit close to home for me.
I lived in Quebec the last 6 years (and loved it - they don't call it "la belle province" for nothing!) and did a cross-Canada road trip about this same time last year in a little Mazda Sport. Also used iOverlander to find some really cool, free wildcamping spots! And, I actually remember stopping my car at this same spot you guys spent the night, to get out and admire the view. Lake Superior is incredible!
Wow that’s so cool! We’re coming back to QC for sure and yeah… we’ll be roadtrip ping it haha. Thanks for being here Katie!
I love your love! Warms the cockles of my heart…whatever cockles are. 😂 That little rig is awesome!!
Hehe… cockles. 😜😅
As you were making the Annies I thought, I hope there is potable water in that tank! I so look forward to your trip updates every Saturday. Happy travels!
Haha yeah we’re always thinking about this now 😅
I’m probably just old but I always listen to Tragically Hip and classic blue rodeo when I do any cross Canada trips.
Classic! We definitely have our country music playlist on rotation 🤠👍🏼
Taking the long way around northern Ontario is kind of a shame. The best scenery in Ontario is between Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay!
That’s the route we took actually!
Looks like Canadian and Norwegian “summers” have a lot in common. I can relate so hard to this!
Hope you’re enjoying the RV!
It’s probably very similar! So far it’s… cold! 😅
Ooooh this has to be so much more handy and less tiring! I just found out I'm pregnant so kudos to you for sticking to the road because I never want to leave my bed because I'm always sleepy and hungry lol 😂
Yeah it’s very luxurious for us haha. Congrats to you though!
Great to be in Canada ! See you in Winnipeg
Oh, I look forward to next week and your travels through Mennonite country where I live!!! It's great that your adapting your trip to meet your growing needs!! Lovelove!
Thank you so much! 🥰
@@LeahandLevi you're welcome!!! : )
You got to check out the bike paths in Red Deer on your way through, its a hidden gem for sure!
Yay coming to Calgary! 🎉
Happy Mother's Day Leah !!🎉🎉
Thank you!
Awesomeness ♡
Just something to think about. Carseats and driveable RVs aren't super compatible. Too many projectiles, not usually safety tested places to put the carseat, etc. I didn't realize this prior to doing a bunch of research 😅
Daaaaaang yeah that’s not something we totally considered. At least in some vans the have actual rear seats for them 🧐
@@LeahandLevi yes! Just something to think about! It's crazy the mindset shift between pregnancy and when they're actually here. My little is 11.5 months and I thought car seats/car safety was easy 😬 I'm sure you guys will figure something good out! There is always getting a pull behind camper or tiny house so the actual vehicle can be used for you guys and the camper for your stuff and living.
Ive thought about doing the one way up the coast from San Diego to San Francisco then renting a car, visit some relatives and fly back home. The coastal trip through Big Sur etc. I like the convenience of the bathroom.....its a lady
thing😅😅 It was nice to wake up to you two. Your jovial 😊😊faces and great spirit made me smile!!
Cant wait for the next adventure!!!
There is no cell phone service on Highway 11 from Hearst ont to Lonh Lac . then no service to Nipigon on hwy 11😊
Ahah! We were discussing at the birthday party if you were stopping here before getting back to the island, so your route plan answered that question! Yay! Also, Grande Prairie area has bad fires right now so you might want to keep that in mind for your route.
Yeah we're stopping by on the way home! Still a lot of driving to go haha
@@LeahandLevi woo-hoo! Safe travels 🙏💜
💯🤔 much love from your favorite supporter from New Mexico. Just remember stay safe and love each other❤
Another awesome video. I got worried when it didn't drop yesterday I was 'I hope they ok'. I worry about you guys like you are my own kids! even though I'm only 10 years older 😂. Also no Levi you can totally swap sleeping sides, give Leah the side closer to the loo she is pregnant dam it 😂
Awe thanks so lovely! 🥰😅 thank you!
Keep an eye out for the wildfires west of Edmonton, there's some highways shut down in North-Western AB and Northern BC also. Had family travel from Prince Rupert to Edmonton this past week and they had to detour through Dawson Creek to Grande Prairie to get to Edmonton, due to highway shutdowns in McBride, BC.
Thank you! 🙏🏼 keeping an eye 👀
@@LeahandLevi: glad to help!
Looks like fun. Zillions of ppl have been doing just that rv’ing for decades now bc it is fun. And boondocking used to just be called campjng. In a cool spot. For free. 😬. But be careful, it is addicting.
You guys are so cute awww🎉❤
Now you see my logic of camping out of my old Sorento instead of buying a Class B/B+/or C -- although I can't bellieve you found gas for 1.50!!! Currently in the GVRD it's 1.83 - 1.85! But I'm glad you two(or three) are comfortable. Also our overnight lows here are around 17C this week and daytime highs are running into the low 30s.
Another option for transporting the Prius would have been to ship it via rail to Calgary - not sure if it would have been cheaper than driving it actually, but might have been an idea nonetheless.
Thanks for another charming and informative video!
Cheers!...from North Vancouver
PS- If the Class C works for you, but you want to keep it lighter and easier on gas, you might find an old Winnebago LeSharo to retrofit with a small (Chrysler or Nissan)V6 (originally came with a 2.5L renault 4 cyl and fwd). The LeSharo is the precursor to the VW Rialta and mostly differs in the chassis/ drivetrain.
Yeah the gas wasn’t cheap anywhere on the trip and that was actually one of the better prices in Canada 😬 we definitely have a lot to consider! 🧐
It looks cozy, stopping at scenic places is always nice. Are there electric RVs, or is that not a thing yet? It seems to use a lot of petrol, there has to be a way of making these cars future proof ;)
Might see you I'm heading back West myself currently in Sault Ste Marie
It’s been over 30C (and humid) in NYC the last few days, and I’m jealous that you’re only at 2C. (I am not a fan of hot weather).
There’s wildfires around Edmonton, hopefully those will clear up soon and everyone will be safe.
Grass is always greener! We’re monitoring the wildfire situation and really hoping it stabilizes soon
Love your plan to get across Canada!! Random question, do you have a recipe for your peanut thai noodle dinner? It looked delish!
We got it out of a cookbook called “A Modern Way To Cook” and it’s a go to for us!
If you have any flexibility to your route/schedule - do the drive up the Icefields Parkway between Banff and Jasper! (If you haven't done it before - it is sooooooo beautiful!) You will not be sorry!
Enormous fuel costs by the look of it, but what a great adventure. I do worry about Leah automatically stepping down to go to the toilet at night and falling out of the bed, but I'm sure you guys are not as clumsy as me. 🙂 Alex, I was waiting for you to pop that ginormous pimple on camera. 😂 I hope Mt Vesuvius settled quickly. Happy travels! Be safe and warm. ♥
Might be interesting to see if the Prius leading or following the RV yields the best fuel economy, since you're paying for both.
Hey, if the over-the-cab bed doesn't work out, you guys can just sleep in the Prius!
😂😂
Hahaha yep that’s always an option 😅
Let me know if you two come through Penticton!
Random one but were about to go on a month long adventure in our camper van, how do you guys use the bathroom, specifically Leah when you need to do more than pee 😅 have you guys ever gotten really bad stomach aches and have to go to the bathroom constantly hahah need advice because this is something im worried about on our long trip
As a mom to a potty training 2 year old with a camper van, my husband and I decided against the composting toilet purely because we didn’t want to have to “aim” our daughter over the different waste containers. We love the idea, but definitely a down the line option for us, and the cassette one has been working great. Just a thought to consider!
Hmmmmm that is actually a very good point. Never thought about this but it does seem like it would be more of a hassle with the composting method 🧐
I did a oneway trip from Halifax to Toronto in the smallest RV. it cost $120 to rent! BUT.. $1600 in gas. So expect to spend $3000 in gas from Toronto to Vancouver!
Also, Costco Gas Stations. Always 5-10 cents cheaper than all other gas stations! Good luck!!
True. I had the same RV and had to sell it because after driving a Prius, the gas spending is just outrageous. Plus, I would never buy a motor-home again because of the cost of maintenance and cost of repairs. I would consider a teardrop pull behind RV trailer. I think it might work for Prius.
Yikes that is brutal! 😳 we are definitely feeling it on this trip. Truly had no idea how affordable the Prius really was
Gas money 😬😬😬😬. Pulling a trailer is also lots of gas but at least you can leave it and just drive the vehicle when you can. You can definitely have vans that have cooking facilities inside.
Y’all should look into converting a shuttle bus or skoolie.
We have! We’re just not sure if that’s too much of a project for us maybe? But we’re open to anything at this point!
When you get home, will you go back to your apartment? Or will you still have tenants?
You too are quite funny but enjoying every moment of it. Pretty soon when you have a baby you will experience your first challenge if you decide to live on the road. It will be interesting to see how you both manage to deal with it. A bigger vehicle will be a must at that point. Ciao. 😁👋
Yes! We have so much to learn and experience still! 😳
Can you please share the location for overlanding? I'll be around the area at the weekend and would love to spend a night there.
Could you not have option to tow Prius?
Yes the camper of that style is a better fit.
Toilet is a chemical one… hence the additive
This makes pregnancy bathroom breaks much easier 🤣
Edit: ok i swear i commented BEFORE watching the "next week episode" lol
Haha yeah it’s been indispensable honestly 😅
4:00 If you want to keep your side of the bed, but have Leah sleep on the side of the toilet, just switch around your pillow (lay with your head where you showed your feet, and vice versa) ;)
No cell service from wawa to nipigon.
Omg! Making a bed in an RV or a van is hard work! It’s janky no matter the materials! 😂
Thank goodness we’re relatively flexible! 😅
You’re coming through North Bay! I’m assuming you’re past me by now but if not, I can give you a free room for a night ( I manage a hotel). Safe travels!!
What!? Thank you so much for the offer but we’re already past there!
can you just leave your prius with some friend, then use a train, plain or other automobile to go fetch it? It would probably cost the same as prius-gas to return to it by another transportation method or maybe cheaper
Yeah sadly not... it would have cost us about $1500 to ship the car home and thats more than double the gas costs.
As an Australian who is unaware of international food brands, what is Annies?
It’s better boxed Mac and cheese haha. Nothing special but we’re basically addicted to it now…
Should stop off and visit Steve Wallis…. He can give you all sorts of Boon docking tips…. Everything from a proper RV to a Uhaul to floating down the river on a homemade raft
Btw i HAVE to ask….. did you use cream cheese in your Annies?
6:52 - Says EVERY Prius driver ever!
😅😅😅
👍
I’m sad you are driving through Regina and not Saskatoon on your route!! Saskatoon has more to offer imo having lived in both.
You both look you are having a ton of fun.
My family does log drives we tend to be on discord or something .
One day we will! We have Regina on the list because we’re visiting Leah’s old house where she was born!
Completely fair. I hope you have a great time regardless 🥰
Isn’t there a heater in the RV?
Yeah but as the lady said to us “it’s extremely inefficient” haha
You could swap which side your head goes on, then Leah would still be closest to the toilet side :)
😂 What a way to end a vid.
Are you travelling through Regina???
We’ve actually already past Regina 😢😢😢the vlogs are a bit behind our current travel schedule
@@LeahandLevi oh nice!! I was just thinking it would be so nice to have you guys for a meal. Im excited to watch the rest of your travels☺️
The colours of the interior are very North American 🙂
You DON’T want a black tank!!! Go with a composting toilet. They can be a nightmare!!!
Yeah we’re learning that it is a little annoying haha
We found a black tank no big deal 🤷🏼♀️
Can’t you guys hook up the car to the back of the van?
Oh nvm just got to that point in the vid lol🫣🤓
Get some Vicks and q-tip and put a tiny bit in the opening of your nose. I learned this trick when in college in biology and had to dissect a rat!! The smell was horrible. The Vicks hid it So Much!!
Why don't you put your heads at the other end of the bunk? Then Leah will be on the right side for bathroom access!
Hi Guys! Checked out your vid. Well done. Of course we subscribed. Come visit me in Washington at my off grid cabin near Mt St Helens-I’m right on Swift Reservoir. Check it out.. not that far from BC. 😉 Come before baby one is born. And come visit Larry at Trout Wrangler Lodge at Lunbreck. Was super to talk with you on that beautiful ridge in the Porcupine Hills. Happy travels. Candia☀️
Candia! What a great surprise! It was a pleasure chatting with you yesterday, and thanks for the offers again!
@@LeahandLevi happy travels!! ☀️
YOU CAN'T CHANGE SIDES OF THE BED!
I’m glad SOMEBODY GETS IT! 🙏🏼😅
Two adults living full time in a small car like had to have a weird smell to it
Yeah I mean there were days that were worse than others 😅😬
I'll skip most of the towing discussion given that you go over it in the video. However, there is another reason why you might have wanted to go with a larger RV: your expanding family. I'm not certain the size you rented would be the size you want after your child is born. If you had not considered that, you might have gone with something larger, which may have been large enough to tow the Prius.
This is why we did the test for sure, just seeing what will work you know? 👍🏼
@@LeahandLeviI do get the reason why you're renting different RVs. And I'm sorry. Sometimes my mind gets caught up on a topic and I need to get my thoughts out. So please don't consider this advice to you. Rather this is what I would find important if I had to relive my experiences in an RV. While you might benefit from these thoughts, I'm also writing this down as a way to help get them out of my head. You can stop reading at any time. However, it could help you think about some things you might want to be looking for in an RV. If you want visual aids, look up the Winnebago View. That is the layout I would probably get, but this is not an endorsement.
I should preface all this by saying I do not have children myself , but was around a few when two of my sisters had children, which did include night time feedings and diaper changes.
What I would consider highest priority is having a dedicated space that is always ready to lay down a sleeping child. There were times I was watching 3 children under the age of three, so I might be putting a little too much importance on this, but I would certainly go for the floor plan with the rear queen bed for a child unil they were old enough to not take regular naps, then possibly considers different sleeping arrangements. The floor plan with the Murphy bed might work too, but I don't know if I would be able to ready that kind of space while trying to deal with a child who is already or about to fall asleep.
The next thing I would consider is where child safety seats can be placed. It looks like there were seat belts by the table, but I don't think I would want to have a child so far away and isolated. I would prefer if the RV had safety seat latches, because I found it easier to put in and take out safety seats with those rather than the using the seat belt method.
The last thing I would be considering is having a comfortable space for myself. Not just to sleep, but also make it easy go from where I am to a child that needs attention. Not just when the child needs feeding or changing in the middle of the night, but if the kid is ever sick or whenever I get sick. Plus, having an extra place I can turn into a more luxurious bed from time to time would be nice too.
Again, sorry about the long comment. Obviously there's a lot more to consider when making a large purchase like an RV, but I do hope you can gleam some insight from my ramblings and don't feel pressured by anything I said. Everyone's preferences in a home is different.
Move your heads to the other side, and now Leah is legit on the outside.
I don’t like pooping in an RV. I would rather dig a hole or visit a public toilet. The idea of hauling sh-t along with me is gross. I think you may find a camper van more affordable and equally as comfortable until your baby is older. You could travel with a young child for many years. The motor homes are expensive to run. You could pay for a motel with what gas is going to cost you to drive a motor home.
comparing real power to a Toyota Prius 🤣
Dont show your wife for free man. Lol jk
