Old gamer here and Micro prose was top dog back in the day.
Their Grand Prix game was one of the best IMO, along with Geoff Crammond's output of course.
microprose pacific air war was amazing back then
F-14 Fleet Defender!
No politics in games. Those were the days.
These graphics are nostalgia personified.
This game looks great. So many memories of 90,s games on Amiga and PC on the go here!
Nice to see that MicroProse makes their return, with a lot of new great games.
I did a double-take and thought at first that Mack was now doing legacy reviews or something. lol
Damn... Really nice to see them back and kicking. Good luck, devs!
@@arnox4554 Yeah, it kinda feels like a retro review with this game. Lol.
Hope they come out with a retro F1 manager
Check out carrier command 2, it's amazing
FYI , MicroProse did not make this, a guy called Why485 made this
Oh wow this takes me back to my A-10 Tank Killer days back in 1989. Simple polygon games , along with Mechwarrior 1 back in the old days. But fun as hell to play. Microprose made alot of games that left me sleepless. All kinds of driving and flying sims, Master of Orion series, Mechcommander series, Mechwarrior 3 , Sid Meier Pirates! , X-COM series ... good shit right there from these guys
as a fan of the 90s sims, i wish they would give him a small team and really run with it. this is developed by 1 guy! It would be great with a (dynamic) campaign, lots of units, online vs and co-op. but really, whatever they give him allowance to do it looks good so far. I hope they give him a long lead to develop it.
I have just played this game with a mouse and keyboard and after you play for a while it feels great and is a ton of fun.
Been following this for ages. Love that they're filling in that gap between something like Ace Combat and DCS. Sim light games have been overlooked for way too long. Real excited for modability too
Wait, moddability is confirmed as coming as well?
Love me some axe combat 5.
That I agree on... Gives me fond memories of DID from the UK and their EF2000, F-22 Air Dominance Fighter and their last master piece: "Total Air War"
The latter had a dynamic campaign, flight physics that felt quite close, controllable with a keyboard without being annoying and great joystick support.
DCS taught me just how boring air combat actually is...
@@Chris-xo2rq I mean... It is now.
Absolutely loved MicroProse games. This takes me back to memories of my Amiga 1200. I didn’t realise they were still going but great review
Amen to that brother! The memories of Gunship 2000 or F-19 Stealth fighter will never leave me. Wish someone made a cinemaware Wings game.
OMG I remember my Commodore/Amiga 600/1200 days. Fighterbomber was my first commodore64 game.
Wow this floods me balls with nostalgia. Hours of frustration playing games like LHX Attack Chopper and Chuck Yeagers Air Combat at slideshow frame rates on a 486... The best was LHX on the Mega Drive! The lack of texture mapping has so much charm.
My god, this takes me back to playing Hellcats and F-18 on a MAC LCIII. THANK YOU for this video!
No afterburner on a Harrier old chap. My blue haired girlfriend told me 😁 I must admit, I didn't even look twice at this. But you've sold me on it. I'm ready for a huge dose of 90'S nostalgia...
the game has an afterburner key, but at the moment it does nothing, because Only The Harrier Is Flyable
@@dxb338 Makes sense.
“It’s meant to look a bit shit” - lifted straight from the business design specification. I love this channel.
It's just flat shading guys 😤
I would sit up in bed and read the giant manuals. Loved the B-17 one!
Flying Fortress manual was a phone book.
Reminds me of the thrill I got playing F-19 Stealth Fighter back in the day on the ST
Thanks again for another great recommendation Mack! Takes me back to F/A-18 Interceptor on the Amiga. Those were the days!
F/A18 Interceptor. That is immediately what this looked like. EPIC stuff.
This brings memories of Jane’s ATF, anyone old enough to have played that?
MicroProse Golf was amazing back in the day and I never knew they returned. Keep up the great work Mack.
Awesome game but not my favourite from them.
reminds me of "F22 Raptor" demo of which I played to death as a youngling. Think I'll get it
Microprose published one of my favorite games ever, The Legacy, realm of terror. it's on GOG and steam, I highly recommend it. Glad they are back publishing games.
Even as a seasoned DCS Pilot I have to say I like this game and the retrostyle gives it its own special charm.
I still have the original UFO and syndicate games with boxes and manuals. Occasionally I enjoy just smelling the manual :)
Nice, only had "backup copies" of those, but do have Xcom Apocalypse and StarControl in boxes still.
We are John Snow lmao
back in the days, those huge flight sim manuals could break your toe as well, if dropped on it
Reviewing MicroProse games is a must. Thanks
I grew up in the time of the old games this emulates, but never had the opportunity to play them back then. I love how this looks, and it warms my heart that someone is making an arcady-sim like this now, even when many "new gamers" will say "HURRR WHERES MY LOOT BOXES AND SKINS TO SPEND $500 ON TO SHOW HOW COOL I AM AND BETTER THAN YOU CAUSE I SPEND RETARDED AMOUNTS OF MONEY ON COSMETIC WANKERY IN MY GAMES HURRRRRRR!!!!".
Interesting! Like a classic ST/Amiga action-oriented flight sim but with a decent frame-rate.
Really takes me back to Chuck Yaeger's Air Combat.
I played that to death! Great memories except for those pesky mig-19s.
From a detractor, as long time Flight Simming and Gaming (there is a distinct difference) where we all, in our late twenties looked for graphic upgrades with every new release your videos have won me over. I was ultimately disappointed by "Vector Thrust" (see, I do like simplistic games) but your videos have won me over. While my wallet won't stretch to buying just yet, I'll enjoy the game vicariously through your videos. Thank you for taking an interest in this flight game.
Microprose are BACK!! It's worth a buy based on that alone!
thanks for bring it to our attention Mac, going above and beyond
I have been following this game on twitter before it was announced as Microprose release.
I enjoyed it as well. Really cool arcade flight game. Very happy to see it featured on my favorite game review channel!
Microprose games were my childhood! Microprose soccer on the amiga and the F1 game are so nostalgic, this looks amazing too.
This really takes me back, gosh
Too bad I don't have a joystick at the moment.
This goes on my shortlist for sure (especially when I get a functional joystick). Let's hope for some more planes really.
Cheers Mack, this is a real gem in my bewk
Getting flashbacks to being a young kid trying to figure out how to fly in "A-10 Cuba"
Looks like the old MicroProse games that played more as pilot simulators rather than vehicle simulators.
Microprose? Wow. Takes me back. F19, Geoff Crammond’a F1, M1 Tank Platoon on my old ST.
This looks great. I still have a lot of MicroProse manuals. They make some brilliant games.
I loved MP sims growing up. Will be giving this a go. Remember that 'Dogfight' was it? where you could have what if matches. F-16's v Sopwith Camels etc.
Holy shit good timing! Just got my first joystick, this is perfect. DCS and IL 2 have been breaking my balls the last couple days lmao
Todays generation loves this game. The moddability makes this game probably my most played game in my library. The amount you can do by just editing values in the files can do wonders, from allowing you to play new maps add new weapons and fly other aircraft, the game is very easy to mod. If you go into the options and set your pitch axis on mouse controls to continuous instead of momentary and bind free look to a key it easily keeps up with even the most expensive hotas setups and head tracking.
This really takes me back to Chuck Yeager's Air Combat :D
Looks like F/A 18 Interceptor back in the day. Hours of fun on that with little graphics!
M1 tank platoon is the one I remember playing. Love it!
It's fantastic, been following it for ages now and bought it day one. Shows a lot of promise, hopefully we see new planes and locations.
Glad you uploaded this was looking at the steam page a couple of days ago
I still have trauma from trying to figure out how to play Falcon 4.0 back in the day. Felt like I was taking a college course. This looks like a nice blend between arcade and hard-core flight sims. I loved US Navy Fighters back in the 90s, very similar approach.
Could they bring Gunship out. Those big cardboard boxes for the game were great back in the day.
Kinda reminds me of Falcon 4.0. I bought that game when i was a kid and the manual could be used to beat someone to death. Probably a great game but i was to dumb to even lift off. :D
Lol yeah. I played Falcon: Allied Force. Printed the manual and actually managed to take off and finish mission. Nowadays I’m playing DCS World, mostly the F/A-18 and KA-50. Enemy Engaged was also great.
@@rpersen I hope i have enough cash someday to buy a nice flight sim cockpit with a bunch of MFD's etc. i have a pretty decent driving setup but i need a better wheel the g27 is okay but just not good enough.
It looks like Su-27 flanker game
Its still alive - Falcon BMS.
I would love to see b-17 make a come back in this style
Looks like the old Microprose F15 Strike Eagle to me... and welcome back!
M&K is...ok....
you have 2 options...one recenters the virtual joystick to center very fast when not moving the mouse...making small adjustments easy, but making long banks hard...
other option keeps the joystick where you leave it, so long banks are easy to hold, no constantly dragging the mouse...but harder to make small movements...
hes working on updating the M&K a bit, hopefully i can just use W and S to do pitch when i need to pull up or w/e for longer periods and keep the mouse for smaller adjustments...
Hey Mac you will be old enough to remember carrier command, microprose released a modern / retro take on that in summer and just dropped a new update, it's one of my fav games from last year, it's excellent
microprose wow had loads of there stuff will definitely keep me ear to the ground on this one, more planes 110% blast from the past hell yeah.
I used to love F-18 Hornet on the Atari 7800 back in the day. This gives me that type of vibe. Can't wait to pick this up!
Taking off vertical when the harrier is fully loaded is a nightmare,i only successful take off once with the base strike loadout
I just gave up on landing
What a nice homage to those 90's flight sims. Hopefully we'll see some more airplane models get added.
Reminds me of Gunship 2000 but with planes instead of helicopters. I lost so many hours of my childhood to that game and still now think a AH64-D longbow apache is the coolest thing in the sky.
Target left
Microprose published my firsf bought pc game, X-Com: Apocalypse, which turned out to be one of my favourite games of all time, glad to see them raise from the ashes to some degree
It will be good rehab for your arm Mack. No pain no gain.
You know what MicroProse needs to do.
Grand Prix 5
I miss Microprose stealth fighter. Sneaking into Libya around the radar and avoiding air patrols. That paper overlay on my commodore 64 was awesome! Nowadays, not so much. I guess I got spoiled by modern graphics.
A sellotaped together overlay and that bloody radar complex at Pnom Penh busting my balls.
Microprose, never thought I see that name again. I feel old with my 36 years...
Microprose? Damn that takes me back!
I want to put "It's meant to look a bit shit" on the back of the box.
MicroProse 😲 had tons of fun with Gunship and Project Stealth Fighter back in the day on my c64.
Hey guys, there is a modding community springing up for this game, if anyone is interested all of my videos on modding have the link to the discord in them.
Love it Mack your videos always make my day
I think micropose are making a modern Naval warfare game in the near future. Might e something to keep an eye out for Mack.
If you liked this, I would recommend Carrier Command 2 by Micro Prose as well! It can feel a bit overwhelming at times with one player, but it can be done. Though it does support co-op multiplayer.
"We know nothing. We are John Snow". LOL.
I remember playing F-22 on Genesis back in the day. I love the visuals.
Reminds me of F-22 for the Mega Drive.... except that ran at 10fps, was on the Mega Drive, played with a pad... in fact, its nothing like this. I love that era of gaming!
No campaign? In a Microprose flight "sim"?!? Wow. Instant fail.
I cannot wait for your Elden Ring Review!
Rollin across tha floor with bad pc controls & framerate issues without day-1 patch....(I`ll save you some time!)
lol
I put this on my wish list last night. Nice timing.
Thanks Mack. Gonna pick this one up I reckon gotta support indies
*Nostalgia is a bit like celebrating the ability to keep your brain the same size & your fear of progress bloated*
Suffering for your art eh Mac? I wish you a swift recovery fella.
What with this and Carrier Command is this the start of a resurgence? Some of the old games meant the world to me when I was sat there playing them on the 48k.
I'm having A-10 Cuba flashbacks.
Holy crap it's been a long time since a worth a buy for me and I got crazy nostalgia from the "let's read the words"
I thought you were going retro here. Love those Amiga days. They can do a F1 racing next!
MicroProse, damn that's a name I haven't heard for a loooong time!
Oh man, if they would redo Gunship I would have a heart attack. Played so much Gunship 2000 on amiga 500 back in the day. 10-15fps!
Please bring back Microprose games! I looked at their website and there's at least a handful of games I would buy today. Nothing about console releases yet though.
Would be instant buy if it had that huge map editor like the old Jane´s games had.
Microprose, I remember that name from back in the day.
The game looks gorgeous!
Reminds me of the early Jane's Combat Simulations games like ATF and USNF '97, still got them somewhere on the attic :D
can't wait for Mack to give Elden Ring a 10/10 and his personal GotY award
EF2000 vibes, love it. Man I spent some time in that game.
I'm 19 and I love the way this game looks I think you might be wrong on how we see things
Looks great, thanks MAck!
Radar vision. Radar vision. Radar, Radar, Radar Vision.
Man, seeing this made me think of Mig-29 Fulcrum.
Micro Prose! Ah the nostalgia :)))
Airborne Ranger was my fave Microsoft game...Apache was a close second with its 65 page manual
Did you do a review on carrier command 2 by micro prose? That game is so cool especially in VR with friends
It's nearly impossible to take off let alone land... Once you do take off, there's nothing to do but have a 5 minute mission bombing or shooting at something on a tiny island. This would actually be fun to continue with as there's AI units having a war you're supposed to help out with until the final base is taken. Unfortunately, once you run out of ammo, have fun trying to land again to rearm so the mission can continue (it's impossible). If there was an autopilot landing option this would actually be a great game with that one scenario alone but until then, just get the NovaLogic F-16 / F-22 games instead for something that's actually playable and fun with tons of content.
been waiting for this game for so long. very suprised you reviewed it so soon mac. I remember blog postsfrom a few years ago saying that the dev was going to shift focus from adding a load of very similar feeling but different planes and instead trying to make each unique and focus one at a time or some shit. So there deffo will be a load more planes in the future. The arena mode is going to be expanded greatly too. It is only one developer though so really may take a good bit of time. Things may have changed since the microprose publishing deal but I have really no clue at all. This is all off memory from blog posts on the guys site way back
