    For the people who say the horse was just “excited”, no, an excited anxious horse is trying to get in the arena and go! This horse was doing the opposite by trying to get out of the arena, the horse is clearly saying NO

      @Sally beavers I do to! And he will “resist” a little, but not rear constantly and refuse to go into the arena!

      @Sally beavers Horses should not reach like that for over 2 minutes. That horse was CLEARLY saying a loud bold no. Your horse is much important than a $50 entry fee. If my boy who does love barrels and occasionally has the "ICK A ALLEY" moment did that, I'd get off and walk him through the gate hop on do a few small walk/trot circles and walk out.
      That horse was very clearly burnt out. Even after being "Cowboy" ed in, he still wanted OUT. That body language was not excited. It is true some horses have Alley issues, and love to race. This horse is not one of them, at least not that day.

    Fallon Taylor said something once I loved - when critiquing, give two compliments first and then critique on what to do better. This is our younger generation learning to ride and love horses - we all had to learn and do things incorrectly from time to time. Support these young ladies instead of leaving nasty, mean comments.

      I bet if Fallon saw how the second girl was ripping at the poor horse's mouth she would have something different to say to her. If I was there I would have pulled her off her horse.🤬😠😡
      I showed and sported my horses for 30 years and normally they were calm and relaxed, once the stewards were concerned that my QH mare looked like she was asleep at the start of race, I just said wait to you say go, 😂. But if ever they showed any signs of distress I got off, unsaddled and they took the rest of the day off.

      YES exactly my point : not all of them and not any of the professional ones , you think the girls tha go to the nfr could make it through a season like that ? with their horse loosing most of their energy before they make a run ? watch the calgary stampede which is where I live , wathe NFR or the barrel futurities . yes many horses are hot but they have to stop them from running into the arean faster , thats why they are holding them back its not because they refuse so adamantly like that one . Guaranteed that horse is sore somewhere be it mouth, back or legs could be anything or has had some pretty awful experiencces , I grew up on a ranch and my father was a race horse trainer. Horses when they are happy and are all born to run they do it freely and because they want to please that horse is not happy and is trying to scream and shout it without knocking them the fuck out and she still doesnt have the presence of mind to just get off and quit because a 16 second run and her pride is more important to her

    I am totally amazing at the lack of understanding what was really going on with that 2nd horse.
    That horse is probably a super sensitive/soft horse and has been rushed through things and forced without understanding or acceptance. A horse like that cannot be cowboyed and cannot be forced once their reactive side of the brain is in control. Obviously this rider has no clue on the type of horse she has NOR does she care AND probably says it’s crazy and stupid. Believe me this horse isn’t stupid. There is likely some sort of pain factor involved as well which adds to the horse’s anxiety. It is possible that this horse is not the right fit mentally or physically for this sport but since it’s being forced and if this continues this horse is going to possibly kill this rider because the rider has no clue what the horse is saying. Unfortunately you see this mentality in ALL disciplines and it makes me so sad for the horse because they don’t have a choice...

    When I was in 4-H if a horse refused to enter the arena they allowed it 3 times to enter before it was immediately disqualified and we had the rider dismount and walk their horse into the barn and we had a rule against spurs and whips. @Brooke Eckstein you can’t say “dressage riders” (I’m referring to actual classical dressage. I know there is a western dressage, but I know little about that as it is not the same thing as classical dressage). That would, or should, be a singular example because the entire point of classical dressage is to get the desired result from the horse with as little contact from the rider as possible. The entire point is have a horse and rider that are completely in tune, completely relaxed and balanced on the hind end. If you are spurring your horse to that extent, you are NOT riding dressage.

    • @oldageisdumb
      @oldageisdumb 2 роки тому

      @Brooke Eckstein In all fairness, it sounds like you have very little exposure/experience with classical dressage. I would invite you to learn about it. I can understand why you might feel that way if that is all you have seen but I have a feeling you have only seen a small, non traditional subset of it in your area. Actual dressage is not like that at all

    • @oldageisdumb
      @oldageisdumb 2 роки тому

      @Brooke Eckstein No, you aren’t listening. They don’t use heavy spur just because it is against the rules, they don’t do it because it would completely defeat the purpose of dressage. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, I’m saying that true dressage would never support that, and any true trainer would be able to spot a horse a mile away that had been treated that way, just by the way the horse carried themselves. The horse would not be relaxed, moving through their back, on their haunches. They would never be light enough and showing a true partnership with their rider. They would simply be going incorrectly. There are several incorrect and cruel methods (google rollkur) that have been used but most are called to light very, very quickly for the exact reasons I just mentioned. The dressage community is very quick to shun abusive methods because, again, it is the exact opposite of the whole point. If you see a lot in your community, I imagine you have a bad local trainer(s) that haven’t had enough exposure to be called out. I’m sorry you have had that experience. Watch Charlotte Dujardin’s ride on Valegro at the London Olympics and watch her spurs. Even when she uses her leg, she is using the inside of the leg, the position of her calf to give him aids, even in the toughest of movements. If she uses her spur, it is only for him to feel the metal, never to be actually jabbed, even a little bit.

    There are many many different things to consider when things like this come. I've been barrel racing all my life and my barrel horse I raised and trained loved to run, never argued, ears perked and ran her hardest. She then suffered from an injury and for months after that and still a little now when she gets too nervous she doesn't want to go in. The best things to do for her is just let her sit there and calm down before asking her to go in again. Another thing wrong with this video is that if the horse didnt want to go in from nerves, it definitely didnt need all of those people handling it. I've read a lot of comments that are against the whole 'western riding ' because they constantly watch videos like this, but I have found that the best way to make a difference is not to type up negative comments but to teach when you get the chance. Inexperienced riders and irresponsible riders are who can mess up a horses mentality so the best way to fix the issues in the Equine competitive world is to teach people how to properly care for their horse.

      @reganburgoine22 I doubt that. That horse would not be that scared if it was it's first barrel race. She must be a terrible and abusive rider if she did barrel practices. Poor horse must be kicked and whipped. Horses don't act like that unless they have a bad experience

    • @jennywalker2251

      @reganburgoine22 no, horses are not supposed to rear up and spin, that means their mind is f**ked up. Because of kicking and whipping. No horse should do that. Horses can get exited, but scared? No, just stop. That's why I have a problem with some barrel racers.

    I am a new horse rider. I noticed the girl looks like a beginner too and reading these comments it seems the horse might be in pain. That makes me sad. As a beginner I always do what my instructor tells me and I question her sometimes, "But is the horse okay?". She looks at me like "Really, you're questioning me? who has been riding all my life". Most "horse people" in the comment section are always so insulting towards the riders. One thing I do know, she held on, I would have been thrown off at the first harsh movement. Hopefully her horse recovers from whatever it is that is bothering it and she learns to not force her horses in the future.

      That horse was no beginner, that horse was as sour as sour comes. And this is speculation but some kids that are decent riders like rider #2 think they can train a horse and she may not have trained it, but whoever did train the poor horse did not know what they were doing and the horse had so many bad experiences it was going to do anything it had to not to run those barrels. It saddens me to have seen several adults instead of telling her what the horse really needed, they tried to drag it into the arena too. Everyone concerned was lucky .There could have been several severely injured or killed from that poor horse having to get dangerous to say NO I WONT GO IN THAT RING AND RUN THOSE BARRELS. If that horse would have landed on that arena panel and it fell into the waiting riders and their horses on the other side this video would have been a lot sadder.

      Lark LuvsHorses its not stereotypical at all really. It falls in line with a majority of the equestrian society. A majority of the riders out there dont know that their horse is in pain and just shrug it off by saying "oh my horse is being naughty.", "oh my horse gets super excited for a pole bending or barrel run." Or "oh my horse is just having an off day. He/she will do better tomorrow." This horse here clearly knows all to well what's about to happen and isnt being apprehensive. Its trying to tell the rider that hey your putting me through more pain and i dont like it. Please dont. Horses can learn to anticipate something easily. Not just in western but english to. And it starts with the misuse of yourself first then the use of artificial aids. I aint saying their bad but it all depends on the rider using the aid.

      Ariel Mizrachi I agree the girl is New, it shows and the people around her should have told her to get off and find out why her horse is reacting in this way. But to blame all barral racers is ignorant of you. It could be many reasons why like: the teeth may need a lookin, a rock in a shoe, a spur or sticker in the saddle blanket, or a hurt/injury to a leg or it's a horse in training. My husband worked for a man that had a horse that was used as a bronk owned by a man that was horrible( he lost everything thank god) this horse was dangerous but my husband loved her. It took him years but she was so amazing that now you could put littlepriches on her. But she acted like this in the beginning. Now like I said they should not have pushed it that long. You can't judge someone off a small video on UA-cam. Race horse's are abused as well but I don't accused all or dame the hole sport.

Then when you horse is comfortable with that, you start your horse over on the pattern and slow things way down on the pattern so the horse gets comfortable going to work again.

    whoever posted this in AUS usually rodeos are a small community please for the love of god and that poor horse and the girl who clearly doesnt know any better …..this is not ok , a horse that severely rejects the situation that way is either sore, in pain somewhere or something else , a horse that loves their job isnt fighting it that bad. Even the girls at the NFR who run their horses up to 4 times a week for 50 weeks dont have that issue, she needs to take a look at herself and the horse

    Terrible display of really bad horsemanship. What have you done to this horse to make him hate and fear going into that pen? Is it the beatings to make him run as fast as he can! Is it the spurring? Is it the constant drilling? The horse is obviously burned out as a barrel horse. You can't fix his problem. He has been abused too much. Shame on you. Horses are not machines just to use, and,to be a good horseman you have to have a much better understanding of the nature of the horse,and have compassion in the way you approach his training. You have ruined your horse.

      you clearly don't know horses. I don't see how she ruined her horse. Are you familiar with what we call hot horses? id say not, so before talking like that to a child educate yourself, oh and while youre at it do post a video of you riding a hot horse that has what we call adrenaline. From how you talk you seem ignorant, and no where in this video do I see abuse. what I see is an uneducated asshole who thinks they know a thing or two and doesn't know their ass from the mole hill next door.

      Madison Fulton that horse wasnt just hot blooded there was something going on there where that horse was scared to go in. I had a 3 year old full bred qh and on her first barrel race she was fine going in with a little encouraging.

      @madison3432 6 років тому

      when you learn not all horses are the same youll be better off. they are like anyone else they all learn and act different. some horses are calm while others are asses. they have off days just like people, they have hyper days just like people. so in reality congrats to your horse doing well doesn't mean the next horse will. so that comment is unnecessary. that's like saying I took my kid to the grocery store and they did fantastic however the next time they through a tantrum.

    • @shelbypatterson5084
      @shelbypatterson5084 6 років тому

      Madison Fulton I know all horses are different but a hot blooded horse that was properly trained wouldn't do that, so either that horse shouldn't be there because he's not ready, or he's done barrel racing. If you teach a kid properly they won't throw a tantrum, if you beat the kid for messing up in the store then he's not going to want to go in the store anymore.

    • @madison3432
      @madison3432 6 років тому

      horses forever101 well kids will be kids. They throw tantrums that's a kid lol. Idk what kind of parenting you do to keep a child from being a child but it's probably not a very appropriate way. Kids are kids. You can stop it when it happens but you can't really prevent it. As for the horse they off days.. it happens. I don't always wake up and feel chipper but I have to carry on with my day and sometimes I have an attitude it's life. But it's 12 am here so good night

      Kelzley Woodley no she did not. Should have listened to her horse and not rip his mouth of with a big bit and jabbing him in the ribs with big spurs. If she had an actual trainer and not a horse abuser for a “trainer” then she would not suck as much as she did. The girl is not at fault, but the adults.

    • @kezzawood3288
      @kezzawood3288 6 років тому

      Karoline Arnii to sit on a horse that is acting that way she should be proud of her self. Yes the horse is telling her something. To me the horse looks arena sour. But even in junior barrels money can be massive. But congrats on sitting on that horse

    • @karro2648
      @karro2648 6 років тому

      Stop blaming the horse. If the horse is arena sour then the owners should do way less arena training. Horses don’t just act up. They are either allowed to act up or they are made to act up. This horse is forced into a situation that he absolutely do not want to be in. He could have flipped over and killed the girl. By the way she was riding him and the was he was rearing I believe he was close to had she not jumped of. Sometimes you need to push a horse to get over his fears or to tell him to listen to the rider, but this is just really unfair for the horse. You can tell he does not want to do the stupid barrels so why force him. It’s just stupid and unfair for the horse who does not know any better.

      I don't see any abuse. I see a hot horse, adrenaline rushed and not using the right side of the brain to think clearly. horses use one side of their brain at all times. when not thinking clearly theyre just like people the lash out and do things they normally wouldn't do. you wouldn't know that though because you don't know what youre talking about.

    at one barrel racing event, we found out another racer, was beating her horse before their turn at barrels. How we found out, her horse jumped the stalls half door trying to get away from her. He broke 3 legs and had to be put down. walk those barrels as much if not more than you run them, don't just do barrels, sometimes just ride, or do arena work, with no barrels.
