Very Beautiful Antique Women's Handbag - Restoration ASMR

- Hello everybody!🖐 @TheRestorer is with you again.🔥😎
In this video I will show my restoration of a very beautiful and antique women's handbag made of metal. This miniature vintage handbag was very rusty and covered in corrosion. This indicates that the handbag has been lying in the ground or water for a long time. The surface is in very poor condition. The handbag is made of brass, bronze and copper. These metals are resistant to deep corrosion, which is why it has survived to this day. Such products were often made in the Middle Ages. Therefore, this rare handbag is probably more than 500 years old. There are beautiful carved details on the surface. This gives it uniqueness, inimitability and beauty. I wonder who was the owner of this unique relic? Wealthy nobles? Princesses or queens?) I think such things were very expensive and valuable in ancient times. If you have more information or guesses about this ancient thing, then write in the comments. I will be very interested to know more.
I hope you liked the result✨ of the restoration.🙂

💯 increible trabajo. Una maravilla. Que llevamos la mujeres allí❓

This brass and copper handbag is referred to as a “pillow purse”. I purchased mine NEW in 1972 for about $6.00. They were considered “Hip” when we wore them with our bell bottoms, long embroidered vests, puffy long sleeved blouses and platform shoes or boots. They were all the rage but extremely impractical. At that time, you only needed to put a comb, lipstick, cigarettes and a lighter in them. After continually opening them to get out a cigarette, the latch became an annoyance. Todays sellers mistakenly date it to the 1930s. They sell now anywhere from $30-$100 depending on condition. Mine also had a blue velvet interior. Beautiful restoration.
I knew I had seen one of these before. I love love love hand bags though I have never really studied them.
First class restoration! I found it very addictive to see each process.. love your work !
I bought one in the 80s. It had a textured outside but still had the blue interior. Extremely impractical, and I kept stabbing myself on the corners
I have one that I bought in the 70s it’s brass I still have it it’s in mint condition.. it’s not a practical purse but I did use it often when I went out on weekends to discos… it is unique and many have asked me where I got it ..don’t remember how much I paid for it but it definitely is a conversation piece..the restoration is great and never thought that rust would come off the way it did … it really looked totally corroded..
I bought one at pier 1 imports when i was teenager in the 80s lol
The blue velvet was stunning. The restoration was incredible but I would have loved to see you match the original fabric. The red looks very nice too!
Me too! I was waiting to see some blue make an appearance. Oh well.
@@deborahbryant3266 I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say the red velvet looked “cheap.” But, I also was quite looking forward to a royal blue velvet lining. Probably because red feels somewhat overdone(?).
In fact, I might have even deviated from the original unfinished/raw lining edge to include some sort of finish trim to cover/hide that edge. Either make certain the edges were properly finished prior to gluing the lining inside the bag, or glue a piece of trim such as lace or beading over the raw edge so that it looked finished and elegant.
And if we’re going to stick to repairs equal to when the bag was manufactured, maybe including several crisp $100 bills wildly missed the mark? Perhaps a $5 and some $1’s would be a bit more accurate? Maybe a lipstick or loose powder in era appropriate containers or a small pad of paper and pencil or even a few calling cards?!
I bet this was colored or had silver plating, lacquered, which is why it was covered in "rust." The warmer base metal seems fine with a red interior.
I was gonna say I liked the blue more too
The same here. If not blue like the original a dark green velvet or silk.
How calming to watch, no music, just restoring sounds, how soothing, I really enjoyed this, you have patience young man! A beautiful art, Thank you for making this video, my guess at first was 100 years old. Absolutely wonderful!

These types of bags were sold at cost plus world markets back in the 80s and are mirrored from antique Tibetan hand warmers. Never the less great job.
Thank you!👍😉
I love that it looks like a small soft pillow but it’s actually made from like metal, it’s so cool how they were able to do that
I actually thought I was a pillow in the thumbnail for a second 😂😂😂😂😂

Я думала вещице лет 100😂
As a seamstress, my heart just sank at the finish inside. Unfinished edges will pull away and fray. The finish was just so beautiful that I wish you had taken the time to either finish or find someone to finish the inside properly.
I'm not a seamstress but I completely agree with you. Still a beautiful restoration but so much care was taken in the polishing, that last detail would have made it perfection!
I'm not a seamstress either, but I can imagine the finish you could achieve would have been so much better. It seemed such a shame, after all that work, to then do a poor job on the lining.
Ditto x 100!
Я тоже швея и меня тоже удивило,что края ткани не обработаны,надо просто приклеить красивую тесьму ,чтобы закрыть край.

Definitely 10. Am i the only one who absolutely loved the colours of the handbag before you restored it?🤗. Great job👍
I loved the copper!
No my dear.. I was also disappointed I would have preferred to keep the original color velvet royal blue that would fit much better with that copper if he could replace it. Because with that original color it would be simpel astonishingly for the eye . But i think the red was what he could find.. so it's okay !! He did more than he's best.. so yes he did a great job.

You do know how to resore metal, and it looks really great! The result is overall beautiful. However, I'm suprised you didn't finish the edges of the red fabric inside.

The outer restoration is a solid 1000/10! But it would have been the same if the linings of the cloth inside was a little more polished. But overall this kind of restoration is gold! Hope to see more videos like this here!
I have to agree, I wished he had done a better job with the lining fabric rather than just gluing the raw edges. He didn't need to bust out a sewing machine, simply folding the edges inwards would have made it look much better.
Having that said, this is a beautiful piece. It won't even hold my smartphone, but I'd love to own this!
Agreed. And it's a shame it got replaced by a red fabric instead of that beautiful blue colour.
Honestly i liked it a lot better before the restoration.

какая красивая и изящная вещь. Она стоила трудов мастера. Браво!
This purse is actually from the 1930s. If you look online you can find identical ones from that era. It's really unique because I've never seen one before. Great job on the restoration!
Tengo una igual
You can also find them from the 70s and 80s.
I have one,identical 😊
Don't believe what you see online. This is a cheap gift shop item from the 70s/80s.
I think your work is beautiful. I was thinking though that the lack of finishing on the fabric edge of your lining kind of lets this down, as does the closing of the jump rings (attaching the chain to the bag). If you use two pairs of pliers to open the rings in opposite directions (instead of pulling them apart) they can be closed the same way and you'll keep the perfect circle.
I agree with you on the lining. The edge needed to be turned under or some trim put over the raw edge. It just looks unfinished.
Thanks always wondered why my o rings close past each other. I’m forever fixing my jewellery.
Where did you get this purse?

Right? Aren’t most of these videos faked as in they made them dirty or rusted and then ‘restore’ them?
Exactly, I was wondering if anyone else caught that.

This isn’t as ancient as you think. I had this handbag just like this in the 90’s new. Beautiful work restoring it!
Really?! I just found one at goodwill in great condition that is almost identical to this purse and has the blue lining . How can one know if it’s an old one or one from the 90s like you say.
I still have mine from the 90s
Not too old. I have the same bag and I bought it a few years ago in a regular cloth shop in Argentina 😂
If that thing is brass/copper there should be no rust on it at all. Not enough iron in those metals. Think it was painted to look rusty. Could be wrong though.
HellO! Brass does not rust, but oxidizes and is covered with a coating of different colors. Some rust spilled over from other old metal things.
Just gorgeous. You are so creative and talented. That’s passion!! ❤️I give you a 20/10.
This is amazing ! The care and thought you put into the metal work was so fine and delicate! I hate to say there's anything amiss...the lining is going to fray if it's left unfinished on the edges. Especially if it's cotton or silk. I would have loved to see the original blue color(just my preference). It's an elegant piece with beautiful metal restoration. For that I say10.
I'd say the handbag was made in the 1920's - early 1930's. I can see it draped over a flapper girls shoulder.
Do you really think she is from the 1920s? And not older?
@@TheRestorer Yes, that's my guess

The bag is made from non-ferrous metal. It should be all green with verdigris, not brown with rust. Where did all the iron oxide come from? Basically, this is a recent bag no more than 30 years old that has been dressed up with rust to look old and in need of restoration just for the purposes of making this video. I can see why someone would do that when there's clicks to be had from restoration videos, but it makes it harder to find the genuine and honest restoration projects.
Maybe you were thing 1970 that was 50 years ago
@@maryhogan3096Why do you think I would think 1970? Even if it is, 50 years is a lot less than the ridiculous 500 years claimed in the video description.
Not that it really matters whether it's 50 or 30 since whatever gunk needs cleaning up was done by the video creator himself for the purposes of making the video. 🤷♂
