    That blue is a gorgeous colour. It would go beautifully with French blue & white country style paper and bedding 😍

    I never heard of lining paper before, I can see where it would help on older plaster walls with a little bit of a rough surface. Nice job!

    I love the colors you chose. I think the ceiling fixture is a little too big. I bet you could find an appropriate vintage chandelier at a brocante or flea market (three bulbs would be a good size).

    Painting over lining paper is something I've done several times. The lining paper in my home was installed long before I moved in. It has a texture. No matter the type of paint (I use matte or satin) the surface is much more interesting than plain plaster walls. I enjoy watching your projects, meticulous approach.

    • @frenchhouseadventure
      @frenchhouseadventure  2 роки тому +1

      What I wasn't aware of is that lining paper has two different surfaces depending on which side you have out. One side is smoother than the other. I used the slightly rougher side as it is meant to minimise roller marks

    That's a sexy cutting table there. I reckon with as much wallpapering as you'll do it's absolutely necessary.

    • @frenchhouseadventure
      @frenchhouseadventure  2 роки тому

      The pasting table is horrible to use though, it is very light and moves all over the place when you try to brush on the paste. The legs are too close to the middle to give good stability. I may have a go at improving it before I next use it. I had a great table but it was too narrow so I thought I'd treat myself to a new one, may transfer the legs from the old one

    • @frenchhouseadventure
      @frenchhouseadventure  2 роки тому

      I was a little worried that it would look a poor substitute to plasterwork too, but it actually looks rather good. I think a coat of the wall sealer does a lot to improve the surface before final painting

    • @frenchhouseadventure
      @frenchhouseadventure  2 роки тому

      With the small roller I don't get the same splatter that you get with a big one. Plus I can hold the paint tray in the other hand, so no bending or walking over to the tray.

    I've never heard of liner paper. Good to know!

    • @frenchhouseadventure
      @frenchhouseadventure  2 роки тому +1

      lining paper is designed to smooth out imperfections. Normally you hang it horizontally then paper vertically as normal over the top of it, but it also gives a good surface to paint onto too.

    • @smz5302
      @smz5302 2 роки тому

      @@frenchhouseadventure Interesting that you normally hang it horizontally. Nope - never heard of it.

    Beautiful work. The “finishing paper” is something I’ve not heard of... do the paper seams not show when painted? Suppose it also adds to the “antique” ambiance of the walls. Very nice finish!

    • @frenchhouseadventure
      @frenchhouseadventure  2 роки тому +4

      As long as you get the edges of the paper close, but not overlapping, then the join doesn't show when it's painted

  • @kayewilliams918
    @kayewilliams918 2 роки тому +1

    Really great work!!! I have one small complaint tho, the windowsill, think they look much more finished off if the wood is bought beyond the reveal for a couple of inches and not cut off straight with the reveal!!! Happy New Year,,,,

    • @frenchhouseadventure
      @frenchhouseadventure  2 роки тому

      It is behind the curtains anyway so its not a detail I felt necessary to do this time.

  • @simonhi99
    @simonhi99 2 роки тому

    When jointing 2 straight pieces of coving, you will get a better joint and finish if you use 45 degree instead of 90 degree cuts.

    • @frenchhouseadventure
      @frenchhouseadventure  2 роки тому

      That is what I was taught then I saw a professional butt joining some so asked him, he replied that for plaster mouldings that was the case but when it is extruded plastic then a factory but joint will hide just as well

  • @RitaMoore
    @RitaMoore 2 роки тому +1

    Wouldn't it been easier to paint first before you put up the coving and skirting boards?

    • @frenchhouseadventure
      @frenchhouseadventure  2 роки тому

      When you fit skirting there is always a small gap that needs filling along the top edge so you would still need to touch up the paintwork. At some point you have to cut in the paintwork.
