- Hi, welcome to another instalment of the work on renovating our 120 year old house in lower Normandy, France.
It's been a while since I posted as I've been doing lots of little bits and pieces inside and out as the weather permits, so I didn't think I had anything to post until I went through what I had recorded. So here is a video I managed to piece together of our top floor stairs and landing area getting ready for paint.
If you feel like showing your appreciation for my videos, then you can always "buy me a coffee" at buymeacoffee.c...
I wondered where you had gone....but now I know!! Your house looks lovely!!! You have been extremely busy! Keep up the videos!
A wonderful video to watch with my morning coffee. I'm itching to put a plant in that window.
I know, it's a lovely deep windowsill.
I did suggest putting a plant or two up there@@frenchhouseadventure
Made my day to see you'd posted a vid. Worth the wait though, your attention to detail is second to none and it looks great. I'm looking forward to your choice of paint colour.
Well done Alex!! 👏 .. from experience stairwells are big jobs!! 🙈..its really looking great now. Thankyou for your informative vlogs 😊
Loved seeing your hallway and stairs being cleaned and the stain on the floors. Can’t wait to see the bedrooms done. Good job!
You make it look so easy but I’m sure it wasn’t, great work as always.
It was actually quite repetitive and boring, lots of filling and sanding, but good prep work gives a good result so its worth it
If you are late to this party...go back and see the original state of this house and how much wonderful work has been accomplished.
This grand ol'lady is looking so much more loved. You are a marvel.
Thank you for the update...i like the color of the upstair doors...
The stairs/floor/lights/walls look great!
Looks great. Are you and your wife living full time there now? Could you do a video that just walks us through all the rooms you've finished. It's been a long time in between some of those rooms to remember. Thanks.
We have been living in France permanently, for nearly three years now. I plan on a complete walkthrough soon
Hi, what a job between the first videos and now, as we say in French vous avez des mains en or. It is very long between each video.💯💯💯
So pristine and lovely , woodwork and all.
A good watch as usual. Thank you
Pourquoi ne pas mettre un joli revêtement de type vinyle style carreau de ciment sur votre palier. Sinon, vous avez bien travaillé.
What a difference…well worth the effort…well done.❤
Brilliant job!
Nice job as always😘
Splendid restoration as ever.
Mr Houdini is back 😂
Great job ,you’re getting the house into such good shape. I wondered if you would try some oxalic acid on that dark section of floor before varnish , it might have helped bleach the wood .
It didn't look that bad until it was varnished. Like I said there is a rug going over it anyway.
💕💕
Looking forward to seeing the garden!
Now that the weather is improving (less rain) it may be time to do some outside jobs.
Oh yes, I've been busy outside too
What a superb finish. Like it all but especially the steps / stairs. 😊
The treads really did come up very well
@@frenchhouseadventure thanks for that. Couldn’t remember the name “treads” 🙄
very nice!
Brilliant work.
Hello Alex Loved this vlog?, I have finally arrived back in France to start work on my house. I recently discovered that the house is 111 years old and the last time any work was done on her was just post war: Other than that she is in original condition and its going to be a lot of work? The builders spent nearly 10 months here and she has now got 400 sqm of new roofing over three roof spaces 12 new skylights gutters and down pipes. The last big job to do is to replace the windows and after that work will start on the inside. Your vlogs are brilliant, I have learnt so much, they are my master class and reference points. Thank you for everything cheers now from Brittany.
Wow that's a lot of roof. good luck with your renovations
Would that be your last room to finish?
The main salon needs work, the small WC is still untouched and the ground floor hallway needs a new ceiling, so it is almost the last room.
Can you open up the stairway so the spindles are open to the room? Looks great as usual.
The whole idea was to keep the areas separate to stop the heat going up to parts of the house we don't use.
beau travail
merci
Can i ask please. I watched a previous episode where you fixed up a bedroom alcove (previously bathroom), and put in insulation and board. Can this process be used for stone and lime walls? I know breathability is very important but would this still be ok? I ask as your first insulating layer was a foil type layer attached to batons.
To install the foil type insulation there must be a gap above and below the foil, this should allow the wall to breathe. My walls are stone and I've not had any problems so far
@frenchhouseadventure hi, thanks for responding. Interesting. I'll watch that episode again with the view to doing the same. I presume the second layer of insulation doesn't need the gap. You made the process look really easy. Thank you.
