Seawolf it has cooling seats, the model 3 doesn’t, it has adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist, just like the model 3, the only thing it doesn’t have is self driving which is illegal in most places anyway, and Kia is a very competitive brand these days

PQTH the Kia is nice but model 3 has range and performance. The latest over the air updates enable smart summon, video games, Netflix, improved autopilot and with the supercharger network Tesla vehicles are in a league of their own. Makes sense why model 3 outsold ALL electric cars in US combined. They truly are leading the way to an electric future 🌍

@@TristanSilverwood Sir , I applaud you for pointing out that piece of fact regarding self driving capability . Bloody yanks will accept any old B*****ks , but I don't think they will ever pass that law in the UK , the term " ambulance chasing lawyers" springs to mind . I cannot understand why anyone would want to pay an extra £5900 for that feature if the law is yet to (and very unlikely) to be passed in the uk . I agree the E-Niro is the real game changer .

Not true. I bought an etron and while it was OK, the mmi was slow and leggy. I had to book half a day's holiday to have a software update which later turned out to be a full day because it took longer than expected. Traded it in for a model 3... absolutely night and day difference. Tesla all the way.

Great video. I love my Model 3. Nothing comes close. And won’t for a while. I held off until June 2019 because I wanted more range and faster charge times. But based on what I know now I would’ve bought one much sooner. In the US I spent a little over $400 to have a 14-50 range outlet installed in the garage. I spent $35 for and adaptor that fits on the free charger the car comes with. I get about 30 miles per hour charge time while sleeping and wake up with a full charge everyday like my smart phone. 98% of my driving is to and from work. There are gas stations all over because people can’t have them in their garage at home unless you live on a farm. Charging at home at night is a game changer and it’s hard to wrap your head around that until you own one. No more credit card fraud at the pump. No more breathing in gas fumes when you refuel.

Nice review. I just want to point out that the acceleration is not controlled by the "comfort, standard, sport" setting. That setting only affect the steering weight. Instead, the acceleration is only controlled by the standard vs chill mode button. "Chill" is quite a bit slower than standard and sort of makes it feel like a minivan. It does 0-60 in about 7 seconds for "chill" I believe, and closer to 5..5s for "standard" in the car you tested.

I was lucky enough to have a go in a Tesla Model 3 this week. I really love the look of the car. It does feel like it’s built on a budget in certain areas. I felt that the seats make your back sweat a lot. But yes they are very comfortable. The screen is amazing and all the tech. The model I was in was a performance dual motor and went like a rocket as you would expect. If you need a hatchback then sadly this car won’t be for most. But yes the boot is vast. Suppose some will just have to wait for the Model Y.

TM3 is a brilliant car, I've had th SR+ for a few days. I so totally agree on your preconcerns and first impressions. The final argument for me was when Tesla announced option for 910 kg towing in May. I am so happy finally having a decent bike rack for tracel, and not relying on diesel power when I want to tow. About the LR and P, I think the average driver don't need that kind of power, but we need those cars in the market to convert more petrol heads.
The range is a different story. if you do long trips regularly, I think you can defend the extra cost for range to reduce extra energy needed from rapid charge, as well as increased charging speed because langer battery accept higher power for longer time, reducing the charging time.
Also LR and P have a higher trim level, with more online service and some minor interior differences.

    @renebergqvist599 5 років тому +5

Brake pedal does not interact with regen. You can easily test it by setting regen to low and watch the green regen line.
The rwd models like the SR+ is a bit better on Wh/mile than the awd models so yes you will get close to the WLTP. The Long Range is closer to the EPA.
I have had 2 mercedes e-class drivers (new models) trying my LR awd - and both noted the good interior quality (without being asked).
BTW the SR+ does not support the 250 kW charging rates on v3.
Yes most will do well with the SR+ but if you need it for real long distance driving or you live in a country with snow - the Long Range awd is a better choice (if you can afford it).
Due to the fast charging even the SR+ will outperforn e-Niro or Kona for long distance driving and the well equipped e-Niro costs the same as the SR+ (at least in Denmark).
e-Niro is a good car but why wait a year to get one when there is a better deal with the Tesla that also can use the Supercharger network.
Last but not least the Tesla charges at 11 kW at home or destination chargers - that is really a huge advantage compared to the 3,3 kW on a Leaf or 3,7 kW for the e-Niro (unless you have a 32A grid option).

Good review, try the Model 3 you will want one. BTW the wheels have aero covers on, if you remove them underneath the wheels are really smart black painted alloys. Clever typical Tesla give you both options! In other words you have a choice, leave them on they are smart enough, protect your alloys and gain 2% range on road trips or remove them for a sporty look. You comment on model S handles, the reason they break is to do with the routing of an inflexible little wire that when its cold may break (you can get a fixit kit off ebay for £12) . In other words it makes no difference how you pull on them.
Teslas one pedal driving with regen is sorted on all Teslas, they leave it to the accelerator pedal only and brakes are just that they are the brakes, that is the way it should be just like any other car, which lets face it is what you want......predictable brakes.

I’d never seen a Tesla before this week when one overtook me. I caught the badge but didn’t recognise it. Only seeing this video I now realise it was a Tesla. The main point is it went past me as if I was standing still, an indication of the acceleration of these things. Not the most important aspect for me but reassuring that it isn’t a staid old wallower.
Good video with lots of useful info. Many of us need reassurance and info about charging options/times, etc. These practicalities are key to people changing to EVs.

After waiting for years for the M3 we ended up buying a Kia E Niro. We liked the Kia e-Niro so much we bought a second one! We have small children and the extra range, greater size and lower price of the Kia could not be ignored. The practicality of the hatchback and zero VED was also a factor. The Kia doesn’t have the wow factor or the toys of the Tesla and you’ll be almost invisible to all but the most hard core EV enthusiasts. I’m eagerly waiting for the Model Y which would be a more practical option for our family.

Nice. I'd say it's a very colour sensitive design, the black really suits it. Two of my neighbours have the Model S: to be honest, way too big for the roads here in Ireland. The 3 looks very well balanced as a design and I never thought I'd say that. Smart and smooth whilst remaining anonymous, that has to be good.
Love those door handles too. I had the same thing on a FIAT Barc hetta way back in 1997, lovely stying and great to use.
If, as you say, the build quality has stepped up a bit, that's great. The two S' s I mentioned have had numerous onging, niggly faults. One is a year old, the other nearly 4.
"Fantastic car but...." is the experience of the owners. It seems to be compounded by Tessla's respone - an inability to fix anything.
Having said that, both owners are seriously considering buying Tessla again.

I didn’t really need 250 miles of range (or even 60) because I spent so long sitting in traffic that by the time the next services came up I needed a break anyway.

I have had my Model 3 in the US for a year; in warmer weather I get somewhere between 90% and 114% of the rated (EPA) range. In the cold of Boston (usually well below 32F/0C in winter) range is less by perhaps 15% or more when it's very cold. In either case the remaining range estimates are very accurate and predictable once you figure out how to use them well. This means you don't have to worry -- I'll arrive home with just a few miles of remaining range and not worry a bit. Great review. I watched many reviews here in the US before I got mine and was extremely skeptical because they seemed unreasonable; now after a year I can honestly say that they hype is perfectly well deserved!

  • @ronaldgarrison8478
    @ronaldgarrison8478 5 років тому

I've never been in a Tesla, but my impression is that the display design makes perfect sense. There is a vast collection of elements, and you could never begin to handle them all with buttons. Even if you heavily overload the button functions, which in fact is what happens with those buttons in the steering wheel, it would be too cumbersome to have a large part of them done through the buttons. With so many elements, you need a full-size screen. And since you have it, you don't want to be constantly switching back and forth between the screen and other buttons and knobs. It therefore makes sense to just put almost everything on the screen.
As for what would normally be in a binacle, the only thing you really need to keep an eye on all the time is the speed, and on the main screen, that can be really large, so that you don't need to focus on it, and thus don't need to divert your gaze from the road too much.

I personally dislike the suspension on our roads and for noise inside it's well known that it's the noisiest EV. Unless you have perfect vision it's impossible to read all those small text on the screen. Having to look left to the screen to see if there a car in your right blind spot is a big no no. Bad service doesn't help eater. I test drove it 3 times and give up on it. Bought an other EV instead that is really a family car.

Your blind spot reference makes no sense. If there is a car in your driver’s side blind spot , assuming RHD, the car is clearly on the screen to your left. What’s more dangerous, taking your eyes off the road to check your blind spot or glancing at the screen to the left. Definitely more time and more distance away from the road to check ur blind spot.

I love how you described the interaction between accelerator pedal regen and brake feel. It's so predicable because the brake pedal is purely for the brakes.
Minor correction: I don't think the short range SR+ Model 3 can take advantage of V3 Supercharging, and even with V2 Superchargers, it's slower to charge than the long range Model 3.

Here is the law in a nutshell: it is not illegal to drive in the UK without shoes on and the same applies for wearing flip flops - there is a catch though. You can get behind the wheel of a vehicle barefoot or while wearing flip flops, provided you are able to operate the controls safely. You're point about having an accident is the area that may cause you issue if the police are involved and they deem you were unable to operate the foot pedal safely.

Great video, but I feel there are a few things lacking here.
You've stated the standard model is around £40,000 but what about other costs? What is the expected life of the battery system? What is the cost to replace it? What are the costs for home charging systems and what are the limitations for installation? What limitations are put on the buyer when it comes to servicing and how much does Tesla charge for its services compared to dealers from other brands?
These questions may seem trivial but are worth asking as these costs could mount up, meaning that the attraction of going full electric could be much more than a potential buyer has bargained for.

Thanks Ryan. It's definitely better than the prototypes. And Tesla's build quality is improving steadily. It's certainly a series of steps in the right direction, and a beautiful piece of engineering. The back seat height will suit children and smaller adults, but unsupported thighs can become uncomfortable very quickly. A numb posterior would be a real possibility.
As a used car, in a couple of years, these will be very popular for those of us who cannot justify paying £40k+ for a family car.

I disagree slightly as a LEAF owner. Since regen is tied to the pedal, if you go over a bump while braking , regen can (and often does) cut out which results in a jerking motion. Maybe it's more common on poor condition US roads but I experience it about a dozen times a year.

VW Golf R is £34K and does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and top speed 155m.p.h - so there is that for starters.
I could reel off another dozen if you like.
The Tesla Model 3 is a fine EV and a fine car. But it is premium's premium brand car. This was supposed to be the affordable Tesla for the 'masses'. But with luxury car road tax to consider the real on the road price is about £43K in the UK - and you don't even get to choose a colour for that . Unfortunately for me just out of my league. But I suspect this is the same for vast majority. Nice car but you will never see many of these on the road for the same reason you don't see many Aston Martins. Just way too expensive for most.

The only reason I'd get the long range is for the dual motors (AWD), since I live in the American Midwest. We get quite a bit of snow in the winter time, and the Model 3 Dual Motors has great traction control. But it's almost $10,000 more for that option, so it's kind of hard to justify.
