    I am very happy with my SR+.
    I don't think it is a big issue not having satellite foto on the map. And even if the traffic info is not displayed, the satnav can use it to decide the better route if you want.

      @@jonathan6665 My average day is 0-60km, if I do more than 150km that's ucommon. I can do occational trips of 500-600 km in a day, but that's far from regularly. For my driving I don't think SR+ will be a problem, and I need breaks for food and "type 1 or 2 discharge" and to stretch my legs. I have lived happy with eGolf for four years. SR+ have more than twice the range and better charging speed. I am pretty sure I can live happy with SR+ when I finally don't have to borrow a car to tow my trailer or carry my bike rack.

    The standard model single motor has a reluctance motor, while the dual have a reluctance + induction motor. The reluctance motor is cheaper and has a torque ripple that needs to be handled by softening the ramp up of power. The 2 expensive cars therefore have much faster throttle response - kick in the back. The standard is a little more "softer" on take up.

    I first ordered the SR+ in which i believe is the best for the money.
    Then I realized the SR+ only charges at maximum 100 kW whereas the other two supports 250 kW charging on V3 superchargers - thereby really supports long range usage.
    I also worried about the rear wheel drive and snow (I admit that is a minor issue in the southern part of the UK - but it can be in Denmark and I live in a more rural area).
    That and the fact that they changed the standard color to pearl white (which I had in my order as extra) made me change to LR awd.
    In the UK and if you don't plan on driving through the continent the SR+ will be fine.

    • @EVOpinion
      @EVOpinion  5 років тому +2

      Rene Bergqvist sounds sensible for where you are. They have been clever with the SR+ spec. There is just enough extra to make you look at upgrading to the LR.

      Is SR+ really limited to 100kwh charging? I was thinking long range isn’t worth the difference but faster supercharging would be great, plus better connectivity. Do you have an option to use your phone as hotspot to get connectivity?

  • @scottwills4698

    I went in the middle, have ordered a LR AWD - mainly for range and charging speed (SR+ is capped at 100kw) and my Mrs won’t drive RWD cars since she spun my BMW in about 1” of snow. I didn’t go for the P3 as I think the wheels are too big (seen many a UA-cam video with damaged 20” wheels from potholes etc) and I don’t need lower suspension, uprated breaks and track mode. LR AWD is not far off P3 for speed and plenty quick enough for me!

    • @EVOpinion
      @EVOpinion  5 років тому +1

      Scott Wills I think it’s a good mix and you’re right about the wheels. There is no protection at all so even the slightest touch will scratch them.

    • @teslatike8837
      @teslatike8837 5 років тому +4

      You don't have to have the 20 inch alloys on the P3 - only get them if you buy the performance pack. Mine is minus the pack on 18 inch aero wheels - goes like a missile but the ride quality is really good!

      I got the AWD and the range is definitely worth it. Honestly the only part that really matters for an EV- but now that I have it I sort of wish I had the performance. Not that I'd ever truly need those features, but I like the idea of having better brakes. This car is so ridiculously fast it scares me sometimes- part of me thinks I'd feel better with the better brakes (not that the standard ones are bad by any means.

  • @kelvynbettridge
    @kelvynbettridge 5 років тому +3

    Probably would be worth covering what those different battery sizes mean in the real world. ie not much on a daily commute and charging at home. But when “traveling” and charging at fast charger to say 80% and keeping a safety margin in the bottom of say 30miles(50km) then the usable range between the two might look like this.
    SR RWD 240miles(actual)=192 (80%)-30=162
    LR AWD 310miles(actual)=248 (80%)-30=218
    Arguably represents a 56mile(35%) difference in usable range.

    • @pepstein
      @pepstein 5 років тому

      Charging speed is also quite different in practice, as you can ride the bottom of the battery with the LR, charging only enough to reach the next Supercharger, and avoiding the higher states of charge whether charging is slower.

    I’ve driven both the long range and standard range plus and the only difference in ‘driving’ was the severity of the regenerative breaking. This was because with the long range having dual motors the regenerative was harsher (which I liked) and brought the car to a stop extremely quickly even after coming off a motorway and onto a hill slip road. Performance wise the actual standard range plus felt slightly better and ever so slightly more responsive from initial kick down but it was all marginal. Both made you feel like they are equally luxury cars. The long range I like the miles it can do BUT in all honesty, taking all into account, for the price I’d simply take the standard range plus. The longest journey we tend to is 220 miles on a ‘regular’ basis and we tend to stop for lunch around the 110-120 mile point so it could charge then. There’s not enough difference in how they feel to drive to justify the extra cost on the long range. As I say the only thing I’d miss is the extra degenerative breaking from the dual motor but that’s it

    • @WegrennerX
      @WegrennerX 3 роки тому

      Regeneratative breaking is software regulated. It’s not even 1 to 1 related to having 1 or 2 engines, it learns from your driving style.

      I own a RWD and it drives like a Porsche. I had the AWD for a day and it drove wonderfully but not worth the extra money by itself. That being said, I wish I’d have gone with the long range. I’ve never run out of juice, but with the way you’re recommended to charge them (don’t go under 20% or above 90% regularly) it just isn’t enough. Other than that, what a great car! I’ll never go back to gas. EVER!

    • @trailexploring2810
      @trailexploring2810 4 роки тому

      I never tried the rwd but i went with the awd and i love it. The handling is very good , feels sporty but not uncomfortable. The power is crazy and im from an area with snow during the winter wich is one of the reason i went with awd. The awd also gets around 100km more range so considering you lose 40% in huge winter cold is nice to have a little extra. If power is not a huge point with you and you live in a no snow area then yea the rwd might make more sense

    • @junosmodel3LRchannel

  • @Jonathantuba

    I think it is good to get long range if you can afford. Saves range anxiety and means you don’t need to stop so much on long journeys to charge. The Performance I am sure is fun to show off, but does it really make sense on the public roads? The extra money is better spent on the Full Self Drive package in my opinion which although at present is limited, in time will get better and better with software updates

  • @neil2742
    @neil2742 5 років тому +1

    The SR+ sounds ideal for me, except the range may be a bit short for what I would want. I commute 100 miles a day and then do another 140 miles if going to see my parents. Not having driven an EV I know the range goes down when it gets cold and I know the range goes down as the battery gets old so I am wondering if the range would not be enough in a couple of winters.
    That is why I have a LRAWD on order

But since I can’t afford any of them, any answer is pretty meaningless. Also, even if I had the readies, I wouldn’t buy one. For my needs the boot is near useless, plus the if you raise the boot/trunk lid in the rain or snow. Whatever was on the lid ends up inside the boot/trunk. Not all of us live in California on a sunny day. Did Tesla not test the car in wet conditions?

    My perfect car, and the one I'm hoping Tesla will allow me, is the Model Y Performance, but without the lowering or 20" wheels, or silly large brake calipers. In fact, I'd still raise it 1.5" just to make it easier to get in and out, and avoid scuffing the undercarriage. I'd like all that power though!
    At the moment I have an SR+ FSD to see me through, and I'm fairly happy with it. The phone-charger area is a mess and seems really cheap, and missing the subwoofer and rear-deck speakers is a big deal to me. I'm so tempted to upgrade the sound myself...
    What else: well, I find they all sit a bit low, and air-suspension would have been a nice option. Wind noise is not as bad as some say, but it could be very cheaply improved (gap filler on roof / extra rubber door seals). Charging time on the SR+ is highly annoying. It should be able to pull 167 kW if the other versions can do 250 kW. In fact it may not be exactly proportional if the cooling system is the same on both; the SR+ should be able to shed more heat! And if cycle life is the excuse (since the cells will have to cycle more being a smaller pack), then it doesn't wash. The batteries will last over 300,000 miles as is, so who cares, and the next generation a million miles. Give me the option for 150 kW charging, please Tesla!!!
    Giving SR+ owners an à la carte menu for upgrades would be a huge money-spinner for Tesla. They could offer to activate floor lighting, seat heating, traffic data (it has it but doesn't display), internet browser, music services, online connectivity all for separate costs, and no work for Tesla. On the hardware side, they could offer to install a sub and connect the rear speakers for a good profit as well.
    Tesla makes great cars; in fact I'd consider my Model 3 to be the best car there is, but as a company dealing with customers, they're a bunch of wankers.

Prices on the X have dropped recently with incentives to buy but we are still holding out for a few more years waiting for the market to mature a bit hence leasing the Rangerover p400e for 36 months

    Isn't the LR and Performance lower than the SR+?
    On the website they both look physically lower with less wheel gap than the SR+

    I do think it's really cheap for Tesla not to offer the satellite maps and real time traffic on the Model 3 standard Plus because you are spending upwards of $39,000 in the states which is not a cheap car by any means so why take out such a simple but useful feature. I hope Tesla makes it available in a future update.

    • @kevinwhite8836
      @kevinwhite8836 5 років тому +1

      This is very true. I loved the look of the white interior, however take it out in the sun before buying. The sun really reflects of that white bar in the dashboard and is pretty distracting. Maybe a viny wrap may sort this out. The white is really nice at night though, however the reason I did not order it was fear of marks and stains. I saw a demo version with white seats and they were absolutely filthy. Saying that they may be really easy to clean....maybe a current owner can comment?

    Hate the fact that Tesla puts no effort into making Performance model different and more special. You can tell base BMW 3 Series to the ///M3 from miles away. Another negative of Tesla are limited choice of options, customisations and colours. All interior is just boring white or black and same as exterior colours there is no individual options, no different seat belts, alloy wheels, steering wheel, roof material, metal switches, laser lights etc.

    They changed to white as standard to cover Paint job mistakes. Simple as that. To save money on repairs. As it's alot.
    And for that price paintjob and panelgap shouldnt be there, and they still is.
    Quality control should be higher. It's more or less non existing.
    If i would buy a Tesla model 3 it would be the LR.
    As the diffrence between them is actually just the brakes and the thing they call lowering. It's laughble high.
    In the States you could upgrade LR to performance. Dont know if thats possible anymore.
    But with current quality control, bad service and issues they have, they are not worth it.
    Too expensive.
    The MG is probably better quality overall.

    Too expensive , Tesla still depend on the other manufacturers to make a much cheaper ev but I suppose that was the idea, steal the high end market firs and make the ice manufacturers get off there butts as the USA say , just taking far too long , 5 years nearly now with an ev and prices largely unchanged , nothing approaching 20000 that is worth upgrading to yet , real 200+ miles range and fast charging , infrastructure to support it gamechanger but year or two away at least.
