    We have a stand alone vizio led tv power supply board, model e65x-c2 with a standby voltage problem. The problem with this tv is that the television has no power, and is totally dead with no standby indicator light showing on the front of the tv. In this video we will trouble shoot our standby voltage line and other major components to determine our problem.
    After that problem is solved I will show you how to trick the power supply board to fully turn on using 5 volts to the PS-ON pin so we can check our regulated 12 volt line to make sure that the power supply is fully functional before we go back to the customers house to install it.

    Seeing your patience and effort to explain us, you remind me of Poitier (to Sir, with love) one of my two favorite movies about education (Conrac the other one with Jon Voight). Both very young actors influenced the life of a high school boy in the late 70's. I honestly think you should have been a teacher too (I'm serious). A respectful R.I.P to Sidney from the bottom of my heart.

    Now this is the video I was looking for. I have four diodes right underneath this heat sink. One is a Zener Diode. I know one read low, switch leads and you read a high resistance. Now that's the Zener Diode. The next one reads inifinite one way and a low resistance another. The other two read just like the Zener Diode. I'm using the meters diode range to read the diodes. The problem with the set is: The set goes off after about 10 minutes and you get a 6 light flash. THe TV is a Philips 32PFL5332D/37. Yes, it's an LCD and while the picture is on, is great. I've got the power board out and I can't get a new one so I'm stuck with buying the individual components. I'm just trying to register a diode short reading in my mind and I'm thinking i'll just change all four of them, which includes the Zener diode. I was skeptical until I watched you troubleshoot this power board. Thanks.

    So I did this repair myself because the TV was totally dead. Replaced the power supply board, TV came right on, no problem. Thought I was in the clear. Now that I've hooked things up to it, I have no sound. Any tips? I've checked all the settings, I've checked all the hdmi inputs as well as the cable input. Only thing I haven't tried is using an external sound device such as speakers because I do not have the proper cords. Any tips?

  • @scottfirman
    @scottfirman 5 років тому

    First and formost, always test the fuse. I know you already did that but if you are going to teach, do it properly. Secondly, Never test anything still in the circuitboard such as a diode or whatever, especially in series like that. I do not even know how you figured that out testing like that. Clearly it tipped you off enough to realize what was going on. Shotky diodes are a one way diode but eather way, you were getting a dead short out of one. That alone was pulling everything down. The one dead diode affected them all clearly. I was told that you need to replace with an equal or higher rated diode, not a lower rated diode. My guess is that tv will fail in 6 months. 90 days is nothing. I would have told you to replace it with the correct rated diode even if you had to come back. They RENT TV's for such reasons as that. I would have told the owner that. At least you showed that it indeed worked, just not for long.
