That is 100 volts too low. Normal is 220 volts.
No wonder the TV is not working properly.

Thanks you @tampatech, this video really helped me fix my 65in RCA led TV. I thought I was the PCB since I kept getting weird reading when checking the stand by voltage but I turned out to be my multimeter. The main issue was the Main board, which this video really helped me diagnosing the issue.

Really enjoyed this video and realize it's older but I'm struggling with a LCD backlight issue and can't find any decent info. Your video was by far more informative than anything currently on line.
Would love to get some advice if your still responding to comments.
Have a Vizio VX 37l with standby voltage, backlight flashes then out. Tested all voltages on power board as good, bought new inverter board on eBay, same problem. Don't know where to go from here!

Great videos. Got a tv that was my Dad's who passed away it quit. Bought new one two years ago when wife got cancer. She passed away a year ago. I dont normally try to mess with these TVs but these have the memory behind them.
I'm tech savvy but needed these voltages and basic functions to see if I can Isolate . The newest TV is a Phillip's not even two years old no light. But I had some voltages, wasn't sure of what volts where. Thanks.

    Hi Tampatec,
I know this is an older video of yours, but the information on checking voltages is timeless. I was just given a Coby 39" LCD TV that is totally dead. It's from around 2013. I'm going to check the voltages, but I suspect that it's the power supply. Something you mentioned in this video at the 3:31 mark is if the bridge rectifier is shorted, then it will take out the ...... something. Did you say, "fuse"? I'm still learning, so knowing exactly what gets taken out would be helpful. By the way, the fuse on my power supply is good.
    Thanks a lot, Tom

Hi Tampatec, I think your tv help videos are a fantastic help especially to people that have knowledge of electronics but are not tv engineers, I have fixed many TV's with help from you and others on you tube, but I think one of the main problems is cracked screens, there don't seem to be anywhere in the uk supplies new screens and they are a hell of a price even second user, so many good TV's are scrapped because of this,, it hurts to pull apart a really nice tv and scrap it,, ron south wales uk

if laptop and monitor screens under 32 inch which I did a video, but bigger screens is too costly for manufacturers maybe cause high risk of damage when shipping, that's my guess.

    • @saywhat9158
      @saywhat9158 5 років тому

Since the screen is the most expensive part, those cracked screen TVs should be used explicitly for donor electronic parts so that easy and inexpensive repairs can be done on intact TVs. If selling the electronic boards to places like Electroparts for some salvage value or extra cash was made more popular, then their would be a lot less shortage of parts to fix good screens.

Hi, thank you for this very useful video, even though it is 7 years out of date. These circuits don't change. One question though. Would your fluorescent light test on the high voltage cables to the back lights have worked, if the power was on, but the CCFL strips top and bottom were both broken and not working? Does the current have to flow through the strip lights to get fluorescence in your test lamp? I would expect so, but would appreciate your answer. Thanks, Dave

Hey Tampatec - great video! I have an LG 55LB5550-UY that has a black flashing screen. It passes the flashlight test so I know it has a picture. So far I have replaced the power supply board, T-Con board and Main board. I have also also replaced the LED backlight strips. It is still doing the same thing - flashing about once every second. At this point, I'm thinking that maybe the new power supply board I put in has a problem - what do you think? I'm running out of ideas.

Hi TampaTec. Thanks for putting up all these tv repair videos. Been trying to learn from them hoping I can fix this Sceptre tv that I have. I have a question. My TV is intermittently turning on. Actually there are weird things going on with it.
The standy light comes on if I let the TV rest for a few hours. As soon as the standby light is ON the TV can be turned ON. The red light turns blue and there's picture on the screen with no problem.
But after like a minute or so the TV just shuts down completely. No power and no standby light. You can't turn it back ON.
What I do is I unplug it and wait for like an hour or so, plug it back in then the whole thing happens again.
There's even times that the standby light doesn't come back at all till the next day.
I am hoping you can share some of your expertise on this.

Thanks for your informative videos. I am replacing the main board logic SMP chip. This chip has a metal backing that I think may be a heat sink made onto the bottom of the chip. This chip does not come off easy without damaging other it and the SMP’s that’s around it. I am using a rework station and this chip acts as if it is (heat sink on the bottom of the chip) soldered. Any help would be appreciated.

    Tampatec,
Thanks for this video. I've done a little troubleshooting already on a dead LG, and I'm going to use this video to guide some more troubleshooting (although my TV is an LED, so there are fewer boards to deal with). Here's what I've done so far-
The TV is an LG 32LB560B-UZ.BUSMLJM. The TV does not appear to power-on: no video, no power indicator or standby light
-Verified power cord was connected to a good outlet and passing proper voltage
-Looked at both boards, no puffy capacitors, no obvious burns
    -Ceramic fuses have continuity
-Measured voltages on output of power board using chassis as ground (all readings taken without attempting to turn the TV on):
    Labelled 12v/12v - Actual Reading 11.7v
    Labelled 3.5v/3.5v - Actual Reading 3.4v
    Labelled 24v/24v - Actual Reading 25v
Labelled PWR-ON/DRV-ON - did not take reading
Initially, before taking power readings, I thought that surely this would be a power board issue, but those power readings look really close to me, although I don’t know the board tolerances. However, it seems strange to me that the 12v and 24v are constantly on, since I measured them without trying to turn the TV on. I would have thought that only the 3.5v would be constant.
One thing your video has got me thinking about is stability. I'm going to go back and check the stability of those voltages.

Then I replaced the backlight inverter board. Now the TV seems to work perfectly fine (screen and audio are ok) but after few minutes the TV shut off and restart by itself. Do you have an idea what could be the issue? Thanks in advance!!

Hello Tampatec, and sorry in advance for my English mistakes. Thanks for your videos they are very informative and useful.
I was wondering if u can help me with the problem i have on my old 2007 lcd tv, it's a Lg model 42LY95 (it can be used as heater during winter :D ). So the problem is when i switch on my tv everything is ok but after 5 min, the image start blinking black and make pixels (the backlight are still on at that point).
About 1 minute after, the backlight switch off, i have only sound and the power button is still green, then i have to switch off my tv for a while, maybe 30 minutes to get any image and it's the starts again.
So i opened my tv hoping to see any obvious problem with capacitors or anything burned but nothing so my question is:
Do you have any idea where it can come from ?
Is it just a symptom of dying backlight and if it is, is it repairable and worth?
Anyway I will follow your tutorial and check everything i can with my multimeter and give update later.
Thanks for your answer if you see my message and keep up the good work, love your videos especialy the "repair tech stuff by myself". I hope u understand my bad explenations.
Greatings from France mon pote ;)

Great explanations and demonstrations; trying to work on an LG374450 when it turns on gets image and sound - the indicator light goes from Red to Blue than after about15secs. lose everything and the Blue light turns to a blinking red. Testing the power board voltages pins going to audio - when it is on initially have (2) 20volt pins and (2) 3.5v pins and (3) 12v pins when the indicator light goes from blue to red blinking lose the 20volts and 12volts from those pins, been checking diodes but so far haven't found anything --- any suggestions

Hi Tampatec , thanks for what you are doing for people.. I wanted to ask you if you would be able to help with my issue. I have Bauhn ATV-55 FHDED its led tv not older then 3 years. Iam I have a problems turn my TV on. It's always turn on I can see a logo and turns off and on again cycles. Sometimes starts to run. I check powerboard and replaced 4 caps which looked not normal. But no change. Still same problem . What I have noticed is that on SPON pin I have 4.4 V and Iam not sure if it's enough. Thank you for any idea

Template, I have a Sony KDF50E2000. Good condition and all. My tv's green power light keeps blinking and shutting down the tv while I'm watching it. I hear the fans in the tv running every time this happens. I thought it was a bad lamp. But that's not the issue either. What could be causing this and how can I fix this. I've been watching videos all day to try to troubleshoot this issue. Everyone has blinking red lights. I haven't seen a red light. The power light keeps flashing and shutting off my Sony tv. THANKS

hey, I'm wondering if you could give me a hand to diagnose my tv to figure out what part I need to replace. I'm a fairly tech savy person but I can't find much information on the issue I'm having.

Help! I have a Sharp Liquid Crystal TV model LC-70LE550U the other day the picture froze and then went dark around the edges then slowly would fade out all but the bottom middle... then finally that would fade out as well. I would turn the unit off then on again and it would be good again but within moments do the same thing. Is this the T con board? If so... best place to purchase another?

I've been trying to fix a Vizio E220MV 22" LCD TV that has an external power supply. The problem is no backlight and no picture (blank screen with the flashlight test), and of course without being able to know what it's doing I can't test sound. It powers up and the invisible touch buttons respond by lighting up but I have no idea if it's actually doing anything. All the voltages check out fine and all the electrolytic caps look good. Any ideas of what to look at more closely?

Hi Tampatec, I have a Vizio D58U-D3 and it works except the left and right halves of the tv are different colors so it appears that there is a line right down the center of the tv. I already replaced t-con board, what else could it be?

I have no input signal on all HDMI inputs or av inputs. The power and main board are integrated into 1. Sometimes shuts off when trying HDMI inputs and red power led blinks 3 times. Would this be the main board or to con board?

i wish to inform readers about my experience in trying to repair a LCD Samsung 52" TV Some time ago my daughter gave me her TV set because it was completely dead . She wanted to throw it away and I strongly refused to do it. I promised to look at it and put again in operation. In spite of my age (88 years old) I started a research and I found this site. I have some experience in electronics because i am a licensed Radioamateur but without a particular experience in modern LCD TV. Of course the first thing i did was to look at the main power board.I changed all filter electrolytic capacitors apparently good but with a too low working voltage I substituted with 25 working voltage capacitors with a total expense of less then 10 $. The set was always dead except the stand by red light and the clicking of main switching relay. Audio was working but screen totally black. Then I started a very patient control of the various voltages present in all boards (main power board, logic board ,T Con board). I strictly followed the various suggestions of Tampatec how to proceed with my multimeter. All LCD were not lighted and i began to search some replacement board to recover this TV. The voltages were ok but no high voltage to drive the inverter board . Few days ago I was looking once more at the back side of the TV and I was bit desperate to find reason of the missing high voltage of the inverter. I was convinced that all was in order but no way. Black screen persisted. Then suddenly I had a very simple idea. A very banal reasoning. The voltages are ok but may be in some connector the electric contact were bad mainly for oxidation or for other mechanical reason. Then i started to disconnect all connectors of each board and with the special liquid for increasing conductivity i sprayed either the male and female connectors putting then again in proper position (feeling with fingers the small click when properly inserted. ) Et Voila Everything started all worked fine . Great satisfaction! I kept the TV on for many hours and days switching on and off just to be sure of my work. Hope that this experience could help others readers
