I hope you guys like it -- let me know what you think!

    As a cook, and also esthetically, I would HIGHLY recommend centering that stove and vent hood on the wall. You’ll enjoy the extra cooking room and the vent hood will look more like a focal point and less of an afterthought.

    • @DiegoOrtegaVFX
      @DiegoOrtegaVFX 3 роки тому +9

      I totally agree with GeeGirl. Stove and Hood is like a totem. It should be the centerpiece. And in terms of practicality it will be a lot easier to clean! The back wall will end up having some collateral splashing if you place the stove according to your blueprints! I would also recommend some kind of prime for the bricks as well! They stain and form spots of grease on their surface from splashes!

    I don't know if you noticed, in almost ALL of those pinterest photos, the dark cabinets are in rooms lit with a lot of natural light... I mean A LOT OF IT. And there is a reason for it. Your kitchen sits in the middle of your building. If you have a skylight above, this isn't going to be a problem. BUT, if this isn't one of the rooms without a skylight (and no access to windows, that kitchen is going to EAT a lot of light and make the middle part of your building feel like a cave. You will need to use a lot of artificial light to offset that. You might be better off going white or at least a light, warm wood tone for your kitchen.

    I would highly recommend a couple of open shelves on the brick wall on either side of your sink. 1) it won’t take the focal point away from your “one-wall kitchen” on the adjacent wall 2) having your plates right in front of you is so great for pulling things off the stove and plating them quickly 3) they look great and won’t leave that wall looking so bare.

    I've done a few kitchens for myself over the past years, and I just have one thing to say: IKEA. Regular kitchen manufacturers (doors, cabinets etc) are garbage. So is IKEA, but IKEA is a fifth of the price and actually better in many regards. However: seeing as you're building your own stuff, go for it. The built-in fridge and other appliances however: IKEA. They have a good warranty, they sell millions of them and they are actually manufactured by name-brand electronics companies (source: I've worked for one of the largest brown and white goods manufacturers in the world for eight years), just the branding is different. You can get a built-in fridge from IKEA and make the door panels yourself, or get them from wherever and you will have a top-end kitchen for peanuts. Sure, if your appliances absolutely have to say Miele then by all means, go for it. But look into the built-in idea.

    I can highly recommend a wallhigh oven design. I have a wallhigh oven and microwave combination in my own kitchen and I would prefer it over a normal oven in every situation. The oven and the microwave are so much more accessible if they are build in at countertop hight. You wont want to go back to normal ovens after you tried it once xD. Looks great and I agree with your ideas. A couple recommendations from someone who has recently done two kitchens:
    1. Move the sink to the center island. It’ll require busting the concrete to run a line, but it will be worth it. Opens up that whole wall for a center stage oven/backsplash/vent hood.
    2. If you don’t want to drop a ton of coin on appliances look at the Bosch ranges. They have flanges that go over the gap to the counter and have the knobs in the front. The lack of gap and clear back space in the backsplash gives a great built in look. They also perform great. Also can’t beat Bosch dishwashers.
    3. Check out Urbane Bronze by Sherwin Williams. It’s their 2021 color of the year and is a very dark color that would make a great dark kitchen.

    My wife and I bought a house a few years ago that has a separated Range/Oven set, so our kitchen triangle is more like a kitchen square. Honestly, having the oven separate from the range was amazing for our first Thanksgiving there, as the family was able to utilize the double oven and stovetop without having to push people out of the way. I think it's a superior setup, and helps keep you from feeling overheated when making something on the stove while also baking.
    Loving the renovations. Keep up the great videos.

    I redid my kitchen a couple of years ago and I'm so glad I went for a wall oven. It is so much better and easier for cooking and worth the extra money. I have a back injury and so needed to have the kitchen built around that, but even on good days I'm glad we have a wall oven. It's easier to use and much easier to clean. Also, get a pyrolytic oven that cleans itself 👍

    Love the kitchen design and colours. In my previous life I was a kitchen designer and as a rule of thumb you always want to follow the kitchen triangle. Glad to see you have not located the oven top/hob right in the corner as people forget you need room for saucepan handles. Had you considered placing your sink or the hob in the island as that would reduce your triangle size. Trust me, you will quickly get fed up with having to walk down the the sink every time you need to drain your saucepan or when you need to carry a hot oven dish over to the sink. It also makes cooking and/cleaning up a lot more social when you have people sitting at the island.

    Definitely do the wall oven! You will love it, when getting things in and out! Think backsplash - perhaps a long glass or metal one along the whole wall. You will be splashing water at the sink, and grease at the stove-top. By having one long backsplash, you won't get a choppy feel, visually. Also: electrical outlets! Make sure you have them in several places for kettles/coffee-makers, and the appliances like food-processors and mixers you may not need often, but will need to plug in! I absolutely love the idea of the drawers as opposed to cabinets, and the pull-out larder is a great idea (but think about a firm back for that, if you have a basket-design at the back, things can fall off, and it is a hassle to get them out).

    I just seen the best idea for how to handle electrical outlets. This one house I had seen, had placed the outlets on a permanent ( can't think of the right word) power strip right under the cabinets. It looked so good and clean. The same kitchen had a sheet of stainless steel for the backsplash. It was so sleek and looked so good and professional! Also make sure you properly light your kitchen. Also remember to get under cabinet lighting.
    Talk to a professional who builds kitchens. Even if you just pay for a consult, make sure you get everything you need. Like a garbage disposal. Also, like a built in ice maker. Keep in mind that the value of a home is held in the kitchen and bathrooms. So make sure you build them to a high standard as it adds value to your property.
