Rented ROC Mining - How ANYONE Can Make 150k Per HOUR Mining in 3.17.2
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 сер 2024
- This video shows you how anyone can get started ROC mining for just 39,000 credits in rental fees, and then turn that into 150,000 credits per hour earning potential. While it may not be the fastest way to earn credits, it’s a low cost, accessible option for those who only have access to a basic starter package but want to get involved in mining.

Unfortunately the prices for rentals on the 3.17.2 live build are all the same, so expect about 38k in rental fees.
While there might be other, potentially faster ways to do it, this happens to be a great way for anyone to be able to dive in and start earning some serious credits, regardless of what pledge ship they have to start out with.
All of my reference material was sourced during my testing of the 3.17.2 PTU patch and hopefully all of that transfers to the live release when it releases later today.

@@anthonyperson1179 oops! I let my security certificate expire. I'll get it sorted out ASAP!
Thanks for going straight in to the details. I watch so many Star Citizen videos trying to learn the game, and a majority of them have some overly dramatic long intro. I saw a video labeled “how-to” and it was 15 minutes of the guy talking and giving no details on “how to” do the thing.
It’s so refreshing to see someone who knows how to make a decent “how to” video!
Thank you!! There's a lot of effort required to make a good tutorial so it's great to see it being appreciated!
straight to the point, well paced editing and well spoken. great video monster
One piece of advice I would give people is to never leave your ship open and unattended. It may take a bit of extra time but UA-cam is full of videos of Roc Miners having both their ships and minerals stolen just because they couldn't be bothered closing the door.
Great advice. I usually position my ROC to be able to see my ship while mining, just so that I can see if someone is trying to sneak in.
All crime is about opportunity. If people haven’t learned that by now, maybe they’ve earned the losses
One would think that you could just take the keys with you... Turns out star citizen ships are pretty much just like my 97 civic
Also, leave your shields on... Especially once 3.18 goes live... Having the Shields on will prevent people from carving a penis into the side of your ship with a salvage beam.
That seems like one of the arguments in favor of using the Nomad since you can close the ship before unloading the ROC.
This is how i earned my first millions. I would say that it takes more like two hours to fill the ROC though... One hour is not realistic for me. Even on Aberdeen.
Your 17.1 videos got me started on mining. MUCH better than bounty missions for me. ROC mining is not terribly difficult, and an enjoyable way to spend an hour or two. Your guides on tuning the scan, and using the prospector are great as well, which is why I just joined your Discord.
Another top notch guide and information. Much appreciated Red Monster. I'll be sure to share this out to the Lost Souls of the Wipe
this is such good quality.. good charts and shots and not annoying voice.
I find this to be a valuable guide even 6 months later but here are some 3.17.5 updates: Rocs rent for 4299-4300 at the 4 locations I checked today (CUR-L1, ARC-L2, ARC-L4, and MIC-L5). So there are no longer discounts for Roc rentals. But the Cutlass Black is almost 600 cheaper at MIC-L5 than the other 3 locations.
1 day for the Roc is 4299 and Cutlass Black 34632 at ARC-L4 and HUR-L1
Red bringing the info and details in a clear and understandable manner as usual, good to have this going out for everyone with the wipe likely happening today.
Hope everyone has a good wipe and gets back to the verse in whatever way they're comfortable with.
I just bought the game and decided to go with the titan starter but I was wondering on the best way to make money or at least a more diverse way and not get burned out. I decided on mining coupled with bounty hunting (but more mining). I have watched numerous YT videos but yours was the most informative on the mining starter aspect. Renting is an EXCELLENT idea for a newbie like myself. I originally was going to save for a Prospect but that would have taken awhile without your idea. You earned my referral and sub. Great video
Binding open/close door already saves you somuch time in the longrun. Ive been doing 160-170k a hour ish on daymar, did not know there was difference to spawns on other planets. Lets try aberdeen tommorow.
Great video. A tip btw, you can quick-transfer collected gems from container to container if you hold SHIFT + LMB!
Yep! That's been a more recent addition.
The rental costs have been off for me so far. for instance, while at ARC L4 the ROC shows at 4.299 for one day and the Cutty is at 34,632 on the day rate as well. Perhaps this is rep related? Or some other factor I'm unaware of. this is about 15 days after this guide was posted and perhaps they have updated rental prices that I've missed.
Edit:
Same prices at MIC L5 as well.
I've been seeing the same. Bummer
I use the Nomad or flying pickup truck currently carrying a ROC-DS because it holds more. It does fit by reversing it on but takes a bit of practice, the ROC is an easier fit but holds less minerals. With the Nomad no worries leaving the ramp door open because it ain't got one :)
I've been using the Nomad on stream for a few days and actually enjoying it. Although I think of it more like an El Camino then a pickup truck :)
Im glad I saw this. I rented a origin 85x for 2 days at around 13,000 credits only thats not what happened, they took 200k & I have the rental for 72 days. I love flying the 85x but 200k! Oh well a wipe is coming & after that i'm trying mining. That' the only job I haven't tried yet. Liked & subbed
so weird seeing you not in your usual red armor :D
Thanks for the vid, I know you pushed hard to get it out
I took down an Idris in a critical threat mission in a conne. That paid 300,000+ $ but that task is not of the faint at heart.
Pings between 1-4km is what you want to scan
instability between 1.00-2.00 is hadanatie
Very good video. I tried ROC mining for the first time last night and while I had to spend a lot of time setting up my controls to my comfort, but the end of the session things went pretty well.
Didn't realize there were different rental prices though. That's a good tip.
Glad that the video helped you get started! Those prices were from a PTU build that didn't make it into the live release, so there will be some different rental costs when you go and look now.
I can confirm that it works great, as long as you don't lose it all to a 30k or the login queue bug that'll kick you back to your main menu.
You always have the best charts. Excellent vid, thanks!
Best tutorial i have ever seen on YT
I've been renting the cutlass black and Andromeda in the PTU and the rental period has definitely been fixed. Within minutes of the 24 hours expiring the ship is no longer available. It showed on my ASOP terminal for about ten minutes longer, but it was not retrievable during that period. Oh and thanks for another great video.
The video I’ve been waiting for - thank you 🙏🏻
thank you for this.. i was mining then flying all the way back to a massive city outpost.. but now i realize i dont have to.. this will save loads of time!
Great vid. Huge help. I never would have figured out how to tell the difference between gems and ore by what range they pop up on ping on my own. Thanks! Honestly, the 1st time I tried this mining it took me like 4 hours to get a full load in the Roc. My 2nd and 3rd runs I get faster. I’m not quite down to a load per hour but I’m getting there. My 1st run I got hit with a huge wind gust while hovering a few meters off the ground. Spun me over, hit the ground and blew off an engine. Cutlass’ are hard to fly with one engine but I somehow got back to a mining site for repairs. I have no idea how I made it. This game is awesome.
Big Oof. Although that's just part of the adventure. It takes practice to become proficient in surveying, and I think that's the biggest roadblock to an efficient run.
wauw this is almost too much information, but this video does most certainly give me the motivation to actually try mining for myself! Thank You!
I had no idea that the rentals were different prices at different stations, thanks for the tip. One tip I would give is setting a hot key for opening the cargo ramp from the pilot seat. it saves about 5-10 seconds each time you get in and out of the cuttles, but they add up.
Yep, although rental prices fluctuate between PTU and LIVE environments, and subject to change pretty regularly.
I agree, it is nice to get a few rocks in the bag to turn your mood around.
Thanks for so much in details for New players. Subbed.
Very nice because of the news about 3.18 also getting a wipe, my loaner prospector will be a vulture so I’ll need to do this in the future.
Mind sharing a source?

Go to spectrum post in announcements called “Alpha 3.17.2 Update”
Patch Wipe
We announced a wipe for the live release of Alpha 3.17.2 back in June, and want to remind folks as such. While we anticipate wipes to be irregular (our last ones being way back in Alpha 3.8.2 and Alpha 3.15 ), as many of you already expect, we'll likely wipe again alongside the release of Alpha 3.18. This is simply due to the fact that the backend will have a major rework as long-awaited systems such as Persistence come online.
This is the content I need. Thanks Red.
Thanks for the excellent video! This had everything i needed to know for this.
This is a good tutorial and an alternative to other options. There are several other activities which will make the same amount per hour almost immediately.
On the other hand, if a player foregoes some the faster money initially and does missions which rank them up with guilds and mission givers they have much greater long term money making potential. When accumulated rank does not get wiped like in 2.17.2, it's even better.
Awesome video dude. Thanks! going to give it a go tomorrow
Thanks for the video. I was going buy the mining car but not anymore!
Might consider a nomad. Roc combo. You only have to drive the front two wheels off and bam mining. So if you land well you don't even have to drive off the cargo ramp. I have gotten a roc stuck in a cutlass black never a nomad. Only downside is the transfer from pilot seat to roc seat takes longer in nomad.
I ran into a lot of "unscannable" hadanite nodes. They were present, they showed up on radar, but I couldn't actually target them or get any information from them with the Roc. This happened with about 35% of my nodes I would say? Still made about 80k in roughly 45m despite the wasted stops.
I did this in 17.1 obviously this patch we all started out with ships rip, only note is i think i prefer the freelancer as a rental or buy , its not much harder to get the roc in i found it about the same but if and when you move up to a prospector it has more cargo to do cargo runs , its also a lot harder to destroy super hardy , good videos
I enjoy this cheap form of mining you can do right at the very start of a wipe the problem is that I often times struggle to hit 150,000 a hour and I can easily hit that goal in half the time doing bounties after gaining a little rep. Maybe it's a reasonable path to take to buy the weapons and shield generator you want for bounties before leveling the Bounty Hunter Guild.
If you have a larger ship like a Connie the stock components work well enough to start bounties immediately though. And depending on how many people are doing it in a given moment I also find trading laranite to be somewhat viable and faster easier path to $$$ in 3.17.2. I imagine as the patch gets older more people are going to stop playing and it will just get easier to fill your ship with laranite.
If you do go the ROC rout I like Aberdeen but you need the Pembroke armor in 3.17.2 even when you are in the ROC.
There is a transfer all button now. And 30k protection. So you can easily transfer all of your gems to your ship and after a 30k they will still be there.
Thank you, something great to to test out and use up some cash before the next wipe!
Wish I ran into this vid before finding out about the rental bug, oh well. Thanks for the headsup on locations though.
I lost so many gems to server crashes that I ended up refunding the game 5 days in, never had a connection for more than an hour. Such a shame.
TIP for new players going down this route: If you have any eye problems, get migraines etc. then you will need to position the beam behind the pillar of the ROC otherwise it gets mega bright.
I always pick Arial when rock mining, as it's flatter, and always seems to have more Hadanite.
Roc mining looks fun and pretty chill
Yeah, it's where I got my start!
Doing this until you can afford to just buy a cutlass seems like a great strat, especially since I plan to use any ship I have to do multiple missions.
Well put together.
All hail the algorithm.
Love the video! Very helpfull!
Glad it was helpful, and good hunting!
Great vid. Need to find more fun jobs since all profits going to be wiped in 3.18. Which I gotta say is hugely demotivating me in playing at all.
I did a 3 day rental and it doubled it to 6 days but only charged me an extra 10k, best day ever
How do you know when the ROC needs repaired? I've heard the ROC stops working after a while of use. Anyone else had that issue?
yes. yes I have.
my experience 1st time doing this: overheated the rock i was mining and blew up the Greycat. 2nd time: i hit Alt+F4 by accident. so i know the frustration of losing gems lol
Great vid! Keep it up!
Super well done and organized much thx
Very useful guide 👍
Great content. Thanks for the tips
My ROC's mining laser doesn't work. Whenever I change to mining mode, the laser just disappears and doesn't work once it disappears. I rented another one, thinking that it was just a bug, but the other one doesn't work either. And now I'm broke :C
as a beginner i actually hate this game, but i will give it one more try with this method
It would be nice to mention where you need to have a suit at all. I would prefer Stanton IVa (Calliope) because you don't need a suit.
One odd thing I ran into while mining, I have to turn up the available power usage before the mining laser would power on and fire
That is really unusual. I'd recommend claiming your vehicle for a new one and see if that resolves the issue.
Brilliant thank you!
Do Cave bounty missions, as you kill through, loot the stones that every npc has. I did one mission in 25 mins and got 106k - xD
Great vid
One load of Hadenite in the ROC will yield more than enough aUEC to purchase a ROC... So you only need to rent one for One trip, then go buy your own.
Heres a small update a move all button has been added as of one of the 3.18 updates.
I get even 200k in hour but with epick luck to find 4 times in row 12 or more clusters of Hadanite
The prices are slightly higher now lol the cutlass black is 32000 for a day
Is there a way to lower your radar presence or is that not working in game yet ? Like stealth mode In elite dangerous.
If you buy a ROC you can switch out the components? I read they might occasionally overheat on hot moons like Aberdeen.
The base components should be more than adequate. My number one recommendation is to switch between fracturing and extraction between each rock. When I have overheated, its because I was trying to break several rocks in one run without giving the laser time to cool down.
Great vid. So with you're talking making around 200k per run with just the Roc's storage capacity? First timer here.
Yes, if you go for strictly Hadanite you'll earn
about 220k for a full ROC. In 3.18 the gemstones should stack, so it will be a lot easier to transfer from the ROC to the ship allowing you to extend your mining runs further.
great vid thanks!
I have upgraded the coolers on my roc before to avoid the overheat problem.
Did not think you could...
good call. tepilo ftw!
YO
i do investigate missions, they most of the time bring me into cages, i do it around microtech because i spawn there.
In that deep eath holes anywhere lays a misses body bt on the way to it i passed a lot of handminine ore, hadanite often.
i made my backpack full of it it brings near 70k. the reaward for the mission brought me there was 4k. lol
I tought i bring a roc wiht my pledget nomad next time, but last time it despawns and i dont know why.
I am unable to adjust my ping angle pressing the , and . does nothing even if i switch scanning modes. What gives?
check binds / rebind it to something else
Is it still possible to store items in rented ships? I just started playing a few weeks ago and with my first couple rentals I don’t think I was able to. Maybe it was just a bug.
Yes, rented ships have their own inventory space that can be accessed just like an owned ship. If you aren't seeing it, then you may be in an elevator or not technically "inside" the ships space.
The rental prices seem to have changed quite a bit eh? much more for a cutty black at two of the stations, still checking out more of them. Thanks for this guide though :)
Yep, I made a note of that on the pinned comment. Unfortunately PTU prices didn't transfer into the live build.
So will this turn into real world or crypto someday?
Sorry but ROC mining is broken, 4 servers cant scan shizzle.. had to move to 5th finally was able to scan 1/4 of the rocks im all set til they fix servers game is a tragedy.
Hmm where can I land on Aberrdeen to collect my ROC?
HDMS outposts like Norgaard or Anderson have both the platinum bay location and a terminal to sell your collected gemstones.
Is this part 3 of your Zero to Hero series on mining?
Episode 3 will be recorded next week, but I'll absolutely be using this method to get started again
@@RedMonsterSC Great! I am looking forward to it. Only recently found your channel but it has piqued my interest in mining for when I get back into SC.
Just wanted to ask you about something that is confusing me. According to your mining sheet for locations of where to find specific gems, Aberdeen is the best place for Hadenite (gold cross), and the other gems are grey crosses. Does grey mean they don't appear at all or that they do but at a reduced chance? Just wanting some clarification.
They will be present, but at a reduced rate.
@@RedMonsterSC Alright, thank you for the reply!
Nice vid :). I have a question. I was roc mining on Magda hadanite deposits. I found plenty of them, but the thing is every time i shatter the big rock all small ones get scattered everywhere, sometimes at 50 meters or more away. Am i doing something wrong? Is it a Magda thing or a fracture temperature issue?
If you overcharge the rock then it's going to scatter the gemstones. Try to keep it out of the red overcharge zone as much as possible, and you might need to let the rock cool off if there's a lot of overcharge energy.
@@RedMonsterSC got it, thanks ;)
It's the same when asteroid mining with a prospector. The first couple of times I went out I didn't realize that the rock would explode if there was any overcharge. I figured it would just explode if the overcharge filled up. Had rocks explode in my face on two occasions crippling my prospector.
Why does everyone skip where to go for mining. You went over that so fast it makes no sense, New Moon, at Dayla? Where is that on the Starmap for those of us that haven't been here? Makes no sense to me where you are at or going. Om1 where? Look at starmap and tell me any of that makes sense.
Do I have to return the rented ROC or will they just take it back?
When the timer is up the ship will just disappear from your ASOP ship list. No need to return it.
OMG ,I was renting drake cutlass for highist price posible hole time XD
Unfortunately the prices on the Live release are all within a few hundred credits. Not the huge split I was seeing in PTU
