Being a full time miner this is my only ship of choice, after several wipes and loosing this ship with just my basic ship package of the Titan being my only ship then having to do several package runs etc just to get enough credits to rebuy this ship in game and also the ROC, I finally decided to eliminate this problem by trading in my Titan and purchase this amazing ship and a ROC so I am ready to go mining again after any wipe. I love the way this ship handles too, kinda like a sportscar but tough as a tank and I have outrun many pirates with her, she always gets the job done and gets me home safely.
I like how you wrote this! The only reason you bought this was because of wipes and how long it takes to make enough money to buy it again. In game. Me too. I also was going to be a Titan only guy and then buy the ships I want in game only. Wipe after wipe, wiped me out! So I upgraded to the Nomad and then worked to get the roc in game. But it was super buggy getting the Roc into the Nomad and I broke down and upgraded again to the Cutty Black. I am in the process of working a LTI token to the Roc. Its hard to justify the real money because of wipes. I think this is where I will stop upgrading too. Unless i get a bug to buy the Freelancer Max... not likely.

All Cutlass ships (except the Steel - abomination) are awesome.
Cutty was the first ship I purchased. Never regretted it one second. When you fly any other medium sized ship and then get back into Cutty you realize just how snappy it is. Your ready to go try anything depending on what you throw in it.

The Cutty is one of the best all around ships in the game. It's a great purchase whether a starter pack or standalone.
Don't forget it will have a dedicated tractor beam and shielded storage preventing scanned detection

Best solo/duo ship in the game. I upgraded from my Pisces to the cutty and it means I can rent a roc after a wipe and have the tools to make money. It’s good for bounties and relatively tanky. Has decent cargo space and it’s generally fun to fly
It is great indeed. I have the Titan right now, which for solo, is a great ship. I am looking to upgrade and Cuttlas Black is one of the best to do so. Freelancer is also nice to go for or a Nomad.

I normally have always gone with the Nomad over the Cutty. For various reasons -- But TODAY is the day I pickup a Cutty Black - in game!!
100%, The Cutty Black was my starter ship and even after all the time I've spent in the game and all the ships that I've bought since, I always come back to my Cutty Black.
I bought mine cash when it won BIS in 2948 and still a daily driver vs all the other ships I have. A very solid buy that's useful solo and meaner when you bring friends. It also has fold down jump seats by the rear ramp for passengers and their hover bikes. In 3.20 its finally getting its ship tractor beam supposedly. Its concept was supposed to also have a ship hull cutter manned turret arm that can poke out the side doors to cut open cargo doors...cough...cut salvaged ship frame chunks to haul away. It actually makes a good salvaging ship to load weapons, missiles, and bulky components with all those doors. It's truly a perfect JOAT boat with some tricks up its sleeve.

I usually main a Cutty Red simply because it has ample space, I dont need to bring food along with me and I can bring some friends along.
My only two complaints are the lack of a turret for the cutty red (its replaced with a spotlight) and theres no passenger seating aside from beds.
Here's my perspective: I had originally bought a Blue when they were in concept and the Black was the loaner. I had grown to like the Black so much that once the Blue was released, I CCU'd a token ship to get a Black to have for when I needed such a versatile, but still solo or duoable ship. I never have regretted it and it still gets a LOT of use from me.
Yes. The answer is always yes. If you want to be able to do everything in this game and do it at a decent speed(with at least a medium QT drive), you need at least this ship. It also helps you enjoy one of the best parts of this game(immersion). Yes I know that $100($115 with starter pack) seems so high as a noob, but, you don't know how good this game can be till you own a decent ship. And with all the wipes we get, starting out in a decent ship really helps. Think about it this way. If you were playing a subscription game like EVE or WoW, you would be spending around $180 per year to play it. YOLO, so enjoy it.
Very well put! I may have larger or more specialized ships in my hangar, but I will always have a Cutty. This ship has been one of my go to multiroles since I upgraded my starter ship to one, and there are zero regrets.

Yes. Both in game and real money. Everytime I play around melting and getting different stuff for my fleet, I either buy the cutlass in game or just get bored of other stuff and buy it back in the pledge store again. It's a great ship
Yes for either (it's a great buy in-game or from the pledge store), and this is coming from an Origin fanboy. The Cutty Black's value and utility can't be denied.

I love the Cutty especially with the skull and crossbones paint. I like using it for PVE bounties over a light fighter on the off chance that they drop a box when I blow them up. Too many times I was in a light fighter and couldn't pick it up and had to leave it 😟
What about the four lights in cockpit and the terrible reflection ? That's an old but real issue there.
Definitely a ship worth paying for with real money to get you kick started in the verse.
I've still got the origional turret replacement mount from 2015 when the Cutty was new. I hope they let me use it again one day.

The true *final* con is that the ramp breaks constantly and will get stuck in the extended position, and this can be caused simply by repeatedly entering and exiting the ship, and with this being the primary entry/exit of the ship, you may get screwed when you are unable to re-enter your ship from where you landed.
I own a cutlass as a pledged daily driver and I've been playing since 3.13. Permanently stuck ramps has not been an issue since 3.16 or so and even then it was a simple matter of going into the cockpit and using the open/close all keybind to fix it. I haven't had to do that in ages and I use my Cutlass for everything.
I'm not very experienced but I pledged my Cutlass Black with cash many years ago. The Cutty carried the best value back then and was the most versatile ship but the game bugs stopped me from playing SC. Today just get your starter and get some credits to buy the Cutty in game especially for that price. From there it is very versatile ship, for example, like using it on salvage jobs where you can tractor drug crates from ships into its tidy cargohold and make millions. In and out, on to the next... Good for some PVE but wanna look elsewhere for strictly PVP.
I upgraded from it to a scorpius, regretted it. Got my hands on it again today

I've had this thing since its first iteration, which was absolute garbage.
They eventually reworked it into a ship that miraculously looks and feels like it was intended to be from the original Kickstarter, which frankly was a tall order.
Absolutely one of the best ships in the entire game. The only major drawback is its lack of ejection seats.

You can pull a pseudo "Adama Maneuver" with the Cutty Black.
In 2019 I upgraded to this ship. Today I'm coming back to the game...wish me luck.

Easily the best ship in the game (to pay real money for). Even after the price increase, it is still a go-to recommend for me. I know a lot of people recommend the Avenger Titan as the ship to pay real money to start with, but really, this is the ship that provides a good breathe of what SC has to offer.
I just always wonder how the Cutty can fly with VTol Thursters on, having just two big ones at the rear. I suggest it would spin around like hell if the thrusters are used in Vtol!?
hell yean of all the ships i have right no i use the Cutty Black the most. Corsair and C2 are to big for some things and i cant fit a Roc in myC8 or Cutter.

I upgraded mine to the Connie Taurus and I miss it. I had it for so long.
Pledged this ship when I first got the game, not sure I’d call it a “starter ship” due to the price, however I’d say if you can afford the extra $$$ this ship will set you up perfectly for wipes.

Freelancer has better firepower, better manuverability without VTOL, the ability to store vehicles and is much sleeker. The only thing the cutlass beats the freelancer in is the weapon racks and turret placement. If you buy a cutlass I recommend the red or blue. Because then you won't look like a dummy flying a ship that can be immobilized buy losing a single engine.
Freelancer can be flown even if you blow off both wings, Has free gymbals, storage, co-pilot seats, and better paint options.
More than once, I have lost engine nacelles and repaired them only to find empty engine cowlings. It's a bug. If you lose an engine, claim it, don't repair.

Great Video. I was thinking about returning to the game and this is a question I had. I feel torn between the cuttie and the freelancer. ATM I’d go with the freelancer. I‘m curious about what your thoughts are.
Depends what u want to do more activity wise I guess. Personally I'd go Cutty cuz u can also bounty hunt in it or claim jumpers if u have a buddy. Also the cutty just can maneuver a lot better than a freelancer.
Am I correct: both habe 4 s3 Hardpoints, but the freelancers are automatically gimballed? That feels like a huge advantage. The freelancer feels a lot more sturdy as well. So what I liked doing the most was bounty hunting and gem mining. Back when I played I think the vtol didn’t work very well. So I think this could make a difference now..
