I'm back with another IKEA hack with the IKEA Rast dresser. I'm duping my favorite Arhaus line, the Finley, by fluting the entire dresser and even making a DIY epoxy marble countertop with the Total Boat White Marble Countertop Kit. This one was a lot of fun!

I appreciate the coupons. I’m seriously interested in making money by flipping furniture however 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ve not actually done any pieces yet so I don’t have a clue what I’m doing 😬 but I’m optimistic and I suppose things like this if you mess up you can correct it ….right 🤞 I feel so blessed your willing to share your talent tho. I’m gonna start with redoing a personal item of me to see if I can do this.

For the epoxy, you can add painter s tape all around perimeter, like a swimming pool. You do the pouring and all the marbles effect, when it start to become more thick you remove the tape and it will drop evenly and thick on the side with the design. Leggari products and stone coat countertops do this on YT. Nice project btw, look a million buck just like you do

I love the slats that really change the look, from boring to high end.

Looks great! May I suggest using an 1/8th " round over bit and router the top and bottom of the board you are epoxying. Paint the entire board first and yo can dam up the edges with tape while you work on the top. Let it thicken for a couple of hours then remove the tape and it will roll over the edge and crape the underside to remove any drips every hour for a few hours until the stop appearing. Also I saw on another video, someone found fluted pole wrap to cover interior support posts....that might work well for wrapping furniture too! Good luck and I can't wait to see what you do next!

Ive used plain old Rust-Oleum appliance epoxy in white for my kitchen counters because why not, rolled it on with a foam roller because I couldn't take them off. I avoided the dripping due to the roller which helped. To cover a scorch you can use a little more white epoxy to touch it up. I didn't do the marble effect because it's just not the right space but hopefully you love it! Good effort!

You can probably get a solid surface remnant, like marble or granite, cut to that size and polished edges for cheaper than the cost of the epoxy and materials. Or, you can get a composite, like quartz or travertine for really cheap.

I see that you did this 11 months ago, so I don’t know if you’ll see this comment, but I’m leaving it anyway, just in case. I just discovered this; I actually saw your posts first and read them both before I would allow myself to watch the video.
I definitely agree with the comment that you pinned with regard to taping the edges so that the epoxy won’t run off the edges immediately. This would allow the epoxy to form a little thicker layer on the top surface, which would give your marbling more depth in appearance, making it look more realistic. I also agree with you that it might help to first paint the sides the same color as the main color of your epoxy, whatever that may be for a given project, to help the coverage of the sides.
Another suggestion that I have that I think would help in getting better coverage of the epoxy and also, perhaps, to make it look more realistic, would be an additional step to take while prepping the surface. I would suggest to sand down both the top edges as well as the corners of the surface you’re working with just so those edges aren’t quite so sharp. It appeared that you did not get good coverage on those edges and that the wood surface was showing through. I believe if you rounded those edges ever so slightly it would make a difference.
Please do more epoxy. For a first attempt I think it came out great. Even though you know it wasn’t perfect, I have to say that I think you did a great job on the marble veining itself. That came out great; much more realistic than I expected.

Amazing! I don’t know if this would yield a good profit in my area given the size, labor, and cost of supplies but it is beautiful. Are you going to keep it or sell it? If you sell it, what do you think you would ask for it?

Christina - have you considered pole wrap? I've seen several UA-camrs who used this product. It may take a lot less time and be less expensive than to do each dowel individually. I love the fingerless pulls; it doesn't take away from the cabinet, it actually adds more charm and more high end.
    Very nice by-the-way!!
    Enjoy your day!!!

Yes! I want to pole wrap but can't get my hands on any. It's not sold in Tenn. in store because we don't have basements and I haven't been able to track any down online.

Love the fluted look, but don't like the idea of dusting it all the time with all those spaces. Yuck, I spend a lot of time dusting as is! So I'll admire it in someone else's house, lol!
I love epoxy!!! My kitchen counters and island are all epoxy and so are the surfaces in my skin care formulating studio and candle studio!

I don't understand why you wouldn't attach the fluting first, fill nail holes, then stain it all once?

I just watched a video today where the guy made the fluting by using a router directly on the wood, I think his channel is "Modern Makeovers".

Your end results r great. However, showing a DIY with 35k of hi tech tools is not going to happen for majority of pp. feels like a half hour add for your tools. But, like i said, nice results and nice ideas

I liked your explanations and the end result. But it was SO difficult to watch - constant loss of camera focus, trembling, etc. as if a 5year old was holding the camera. Hope it is just this video's problem, cause you have interesting ideas, but if it is always that shaky....
