Hitting a walk-off to set a career milestone 500 HR has to be one of the iconic moments in the past 20 years.
He has over 600 HR. Clutch!
One of the most underrated players ever, doesn't get the respect he deserves. Outstanding player and human being!
he's in the hall of fame...
he’s very rated
I was just watching a different Thome video thinking the same thing . So underrated it’s not even funny. Over 600 HR’s. So many clutch hits. NEVER accused of PED’s actually during the PED era. Tribe was lucky to have him all those years.
Bro is not underrated 😂
Agreed! Does not get nearly as much love as the roiders from his time do.
"You see this" *points to bat*
"Because of that" *points to bicep*
"It goes like that" *points to the distance*
--Jim Thome, MVP Baseball 2005
Cleveland had some of the great announcers on tv and radio they made it even more magic

One sunny afternoon as I had the radio on I yelled and told my son you just listened to a future hall of famer hit a 3 2 pitch walk off home run and it was his 500th! Love Jim, wish the Sox could have won something with him. There are so many stories of his generosity. He was so kind and humble when he met my sister and others we know.
I forgot he played for so many teams. Jim was seriously one of the greatest of all time.
April 2001 went to that game as a kid with my mother. Those memories stay with you forever
"high and deep to center field"
absolute laser
I just went to see my favorite all time player get inducted to the hall. It was one of the greatest events of my life. No one is more deserving than this humble, kind, and giant of the diamond. You were the best Jim, and you would have made Gehrig proud. Thank you for giving us 22 years of thrills. Welcome to eternal greatness
Not an Indians, Sox or Twins fan but much respect to Thome. Rare to find a masher that deserves full respect and wasn't juiced or selfish or whatever. This guy was a beast.
I was too young to see his greatness - I only remember him as a Twin. But gosh was he special, so glad the HOF made the right decision right away. Man deserves it
At one point it was him and Ortiz winning games every other night it felt like
"Thome, you bum!" :-)
In about 1995 my wife and I got tickets from work - the sales guys didn't use 'em all, which was unusual, and we were up next on the "free tickets" list - so we went to a game up in Cleveland. I hadn't really followed the Indians for years, because during my youth in Cleveland in the 1960's I'd kind of picked up the sad truth that the Indians weren't going to win the World Series, the pennant, the next series, or tonight's game, so I kind of lost interest. But 30 years later they were doing a lot better, and getting tickets to a game was a pretty nice benefit. Anyways, we get there and we're in the lower deck just behind the 1st base dugout - and just down the row from us there's a guy who was on Thome's back all night. Screaming at him, telling him he sucked, couldn't hit, couldn't catch - and then Thome knocked the ball out of the park.
So I always remember that guy screaming, "Thome, you bum!" a hundred times during the game, and then watching him deflate as the ball sailed out of the park.
One of least talked about greatest home run hitters of all time! Dude was a beast! One of my favorite all time ball players.
He had my 2nd favorite all time swing. Behind Ken Griffey Jr
As a Thome fan since 1995, I got to hear some of the greats call his home runs; Tom Hamilton, Harry Kalas, Hawk/Stone, Blyleven/Bremer....dang, those are some damn fine memories.
What a monster. There are actually people who think he isn't a Hall of Famer. Not only do his numbers clearly support him in Cooperstown, but he was a guy you went to the ballpark to see.
Buster Olney wrote a column years ago saying no. Probably been sucking up ever since.
And I like Buster as an analyst. And his reasoning was probably that Thome only won one home run title, only led in slugging and OPS once, wasn't Keith Hernandez(or Brooks Robinson if you go back to his 3rd base days), defensively, etc. Thing is, he was always in the top ten in so many categories - WITHIN the steroid era, while never being linked to anything. As a power hitter, he was absolutely stupendous, and had that Mark McGwire-esque mystique of not just hitting homers, but hitting huge country mile bombs lol. Thome also had incredible longevity. Over 70 career war. Any case against him being a first ballot guy is a really weak one lol.
Not only a first ballot hall of famer, but also extremely underrated. Probably only 2nd to Ruth.
Not only the requisite HR numbers, but wasn't a free swinger. Higher OBP than Gwynn, Rickey, Carew, and Morgan among others
I grew up in Cleveland in the 80s and 90s.. I went to the park to see him and Albert Belle! What a great time to be an Indians fan!
Jim hit so many “no doubters”!
Thome was awesome.
I met Thome back in 2019, i was nervous to met the guy that I watched him as a kid, it's like meeting a living Legend like feeling of meeting Eli Manning or Joe Montana. Although it was Allstar week .
Iconic Swing. Cleveland Legend.
Thome was a legit beast!
What a perfect swing. So clutch its unbelievable. What a great player.
As an Indians fan who idolized the 90s teams, it's crazy to think that only Thome wound up making the Hall of Fame. Manny is clearly deserving, but likely won't because of PEDs. Albert Belle would very likely have been a 2-time MVP and on his way to at least 500 HR when injuries cut his career short. Kenny Lofton was the best leadoff hitter of the 90s and a borderline case, but there are many less-deserving players already in.
Kenny Lofton will eventually get in. I think the Veterans committe or one of those extra committees will vote in Lofton. Easily top 5 lead off hitter of the 90s and was a key offensive element of a dozen postseason teams.
I loved Jim Thome!… Class act and a MONSTER at the plate! His plate presence was intimidating and when he connected flush, don’t even worry about it … It’s outta here! What a legend!
1:40 -- Beautiful how it sails with the American flag in the background. Poetic feel.
I love Jim Thome, that home run in the one game playoff in 2008 vs. The Twins was one of the greatest baseball moments of my life.
Vseslav Botkin yes the blackout game
One of the best players of all time
The Jake in the 90's was rockin
If you noticed, some of his walk offs were against some of the best reliveres in the game
JarvisLas Crawford well that’s what happens when it’s the bottom of the ninth or later. You face the best
Thanks Jim !!
As a Cleveland fan, glad the Sox and Phillies got to enjoy that guy. Can’t be greedy.
not a huge Hawk fan, but I can't deny that call around 4:00 is one of the best ever.
Man back when he was still energetic with his calls lol.
One Of Hawk's Best Ones LOL
4:34 is better.
I hate Hawk so much. He used to be kinda tolerable but now its just an ear sore.
Adam Levine please don’t tell me you’re a Joe Buck fan or something
To me, the best. No steroids during the roid era. A great guy. When Cleveland fans think of ICON they think Jim Thome. Played during the toughest pitchers and still hit 500 hrs.
Over 600..😊❤
Tom Hamilton is the greatest announcer ever
Ty Johnson I agree he had love for the game and his spot on enthusiasm was amazing
Agreed!
He's up there
"Thome with a drive" I definitely got used to hearing a lot back in the 90s....great memories.
Dave is way better
One of the greatest of all time.
Also, Thome broke the Angels hearts quite a bit with those Walk Offs.
TheMotherfer Yeah what’s up with that? They’re not even in the same division
the one down vote on this vid = troy percival :)
As a Tigers fan, Thome has been an arch enemy to the Motor City
Fortnite 5 gotta respect the guy though
He was a Monster.
I was at that game when he hit his walk off 500th home run.
Elliot B, so jealous of you now. Jim was such a great player and person. This coming from a Tiger fan. He hit 5 or 6 home runs off of Justin Verlander. Great player, knew he would be a first ballot HOF.
+polishtheturd mickelson Totally agree with you man!
Me too!
It was Jim Thome Bobblehead day
So was my dad he was sitting one section over literally right near where the ball landed
Jim Thome one of my favorite players ever. This guys had great hand eye coordination. Something Ohtani is a master of too.
5:14 Did someone yell “I LOVE YOU!!!” lol
I'll never forget watching Thome in a Twins uniform welcoming a new reliever for the White Sox. It was the kid's first time pitching in the show and he's facing Jim Thome for his first batter. I don't remember which pitch it was but Thome blasted a shot over the flag poles in right past the entry gate. All I could think was, "Welcome to the big leagues kid."
White Sox fan watching this:
4:01 Ah, one of the greatest highlights I can remember!
4:57 Ah, one of the most crushing blows I can remember.
Chills man, chills.....Some of these seem like so long ago....still get chills
Well he retired 10 seasons ago... they are all a long time ago
As a White Sox fan...I cringed every time we played Cleveland. Thome killed us.
Same with the A’s. 😂
If you guys cringed I could only imagine what Detroit fans did he murdered them throughout his career 😂
We’re still killing you 😂
Twins fan here. September 30 2008 STILL hurts
At least he won a few for the Sox, too..!
I know very little about baseball but a blind man can see that bloke has class!
A very likable bloke!😊❤
Did they base Mr. Incredible after Jim Thome?
He definitely has the look and the power of Mr. Incredible. His wife has Mrs. Incredible's hair.
Those White Sox ones don’t count. He’s a Cleveland guy for life.
the fact the number 500 was a walk off
I was at the game in 2000 vs. Anaheim. I thought that ball was going into orbit.
4:57 that crowd was loud af
As a lifelong tribe fan, it'd always killing me and just weird seeing him in another uniform
Hammy....awaaaaaaaay back!
God these home run calls are just *chefs kiss* too. I love baseball man.
Hats off
Not many guys can hit a line drive over the fence. Thome was a beast.
I was there on April 21, 2001. It was the day before my 10th birthday
Was at the one in 2008 against the Angels. Didn't realize they did a 14th inning stretch! Awesome finish by Thome though, what a legend
There is something so wrong when it changes from Jacobs Field to U.S. Cellular or whatever at the time. He is and always will be an Indian.
It's crazy he didn't hit a walk off for 5 years from 02-07. He didn't hit any in Philadelphia until his last year in 2012
2 nd one I recognized Ernie Harwell on the Tigers radio broadcast. One of the greats who ever called baseball games.
Love that man
“Thome about to get pounded at home plate”
he is a monster
Thome is an angel killer
Never got the attention he deserved. How many career home runs were on those mid to late 90s Indian teams? Like 5,000?
Candy Banks probably because he was always in someone’s shadow. Early in his career Belle was having 50 HR/50 2B seasons and when he left Manny started hitting 140+ RBI’s every year.
Candy Banks which sucks because he had the best overall career he was never really the best hitter on the team though
Might not have been the best hitter on the team, but he was one of the better ones - given where it's put him I know which I'd rather be.
I want to say he finished his career with 607 home runs. Great player, person and teammate. Congts on your 2018 HOF induction. No doubt in my mind he belongs there.
612, but yeah. Great guy on and off the field.
I wonder if he has the record for most extra inning HRs as well. That was a lot of game winners in extras.
So glad he decided to stick with the white Sox. He’s been a huge asset to our young guys
man, you just dont see that many people on the home run porch during day games anymore at the jake.
More specifically, you just don't see big crowds there at all anymore.
So glad I got to grow up an Indians fan during this era.
Class is spelled...Thome !
Dang now that's a record that won't be touched for a long time maybe even ever, it's a random record that's for sure, the fact his 500th HR was a walk off he defenitly deserves that record
707 SaV pujols has a chance
My Homie, Thome.... miss ball players, lost art
Owning poor Troy Perceival
The Best😇😇👑👑
When Baseball was fun.
Never seemed like Jim got cheated on his Swing
Explains the strikeout total...(2,548!)😊
Fun fact: for some reason, pitcher Charles Nagy was the runner on third base for the grand slam against the Tigers. You can see him in the celebration at 3:52.
He pinch ran for Lee Stevens who pinch hit for Einar Diaz.
2002 was a crazy year for Cleveland, started out 11-1, then went 63-87 the rest of the way. Literally had like 15% of our wins in two weeks. Aside from Bartolo, pitching was atrocious, then we traded him for Sizemore, Phillips and the other guys. And Branyan had 33 hits 8 HR and 20 RBI in 50 games and we sent him to Cincy for Ben Broussard (an act I never forgave the Indians for, I'm a massive Branyan fan for some reason), oh and we didn't move Thome in his contract year in one of our dumber front office moves ever (he's why we trade everyone early now).
@@JohnReedy07163 and Brady Anderson was involved!
@@velvetbagel His name shall not be uttered in my presence!!!
Walk, strikeout, mash... repeat.
This man absolutely hated the Angels, Good Lord
No--just loved playing baseball!!😊❤
this missed catch haunts this man to this day 3:38
I have his rookie card!!!
Me too!
That'll never get old...
A WAAAAY BACK
I remember the excitement when the twins signed him. I imagine it’s what North Koreans felt when they learned they had nukes.
The only Indian who could hit a HR off a practice tee. Tremendous power
100%
Thome > Bonds
I couldn't agree more!
Yes!! Aaron still is the Home run king!!
Lol FOH
Thome owned Troy Percival.
2:01 I would like to take this opportunity to say I always DESPISED Todd Jones when he played for the Tigers.
Orioles players and fans loved having him on the team for a brief time at the end of 2012 season.
Built like a brick shithouse too
Basically all against Detroit or the angels
I was at the last one close to where it was hit
Is my queen
The definition of a slugger.
!!STUPID QUESTION ALERT!!
Did he only have walk off homeruns? If not how many total did he have?
Thome hit 612 home runs during his professional career, currently eighth-most all time. Included in this total are his MLB-record 13 walk-offs. :)
Okay thanks!
