Fairfield Recycling - A Rare + Fast Truck!

- I followed the trail of full and empty bins along a main road and into a few side streets for about 10mins, until I eventually crossed paths with this collection truck after locating the sound of crashing glass. This particular truck is a very rare make in Australia these days, which could previously be found in numerous councils around the country, though now only a handful of councils use them. As far as my state goes, Wyong, Ryde, Penrith, Ashfield, Randwick, Bankstown, Kiama and Camden were a few councils I knew of to use these... now I can only think of Ballina up north and here in Fairfield.
The MJ DART is a split-bodied ASL used to service either split bins or 2 separate bins. The top compartment is used for mixed recycling or streamed bottles and the bottom compartment is used for garbage or streamed paper. Both compartments are packed by two linked paddle mechanisms.
A while ago, Fairfield came to an agreement with WSN about mixing the recycling due to some upgrades at the contractor's MRF. So as a result of this, the four DARTs operating in Fairfield had their dividing walls and inner tailgate removed (which basically removes the DART concept). Funny thing is that all the residents are still keeping their bottles and paper recycling separate, because they don't know about the change! lol
Hope you enjoy the footage I captured, please rate, comment and favourite if you wish to. Also to see footage of one of the garbage trucks you will find in Fairfield, see Aussiegarbo13's videos. According to a driver I spoke with, the garbage trucks start at 2:30am and are done around 7am, so fat chance I was going to find one.

After all these years of watching this video, I just noticed the new mud flap on the LHS at the back of the truck and now I can't stop looking at it.
Loved the colour of that truck. Here in America it's spelled "color" but I spell it "colour" because I think it looks nicer spelled that way. 5 stars.
Another great video! Loved the show at 6:40! 5* and Fav!
Nice work Mitch the truck is so and the bin lid came of at 3:24 and rubbish came out at 6:51 the bins look like the Wyong Shire recycling bins.
awesome vid man drivers got skill, mean how he picked the bin back up at 6:42
lol,the lid came off!
Bonnyrigg, NSW
Yeh I was hoping to see the exact same thing, but oh well, no such luck =[ I got a bit suspicious when I saw the angle the bins were being dumped at, so that's where I asked the question. That cage thing acts as a sort of tool/accessory box to hold stuff like dust pans + brush. Thanks again, would love to find one that is actually still split!
A lot of trucks do have it, they just appear as closed and locked containers somewhere on the side of the truck, usually black in colour.
LoL!! The lid of one of the bins fell into the truck while getting collecting
Meant the body on top is rare... and not because it's MacDonald Johnston, because it's an old split model ;)
Great footage! Did that yellow lid come off @3:24??? THat was a great show at 6:30! Almost didn't fall down at first, then he hit it again, then there was stuff wedged inside. Great work! 5* and fav!
6:49, he wasn't looking at the hopper camera
No more Ballina old ivecos any more, last one went two years ago.
Haha the do group barking at 1:06
Yep she's an ACCO, but the body's a MacDonald Johnston.
do thay use it now?
Not 100% sure on the exact age, I'm thinking a 2003 or 2004 model but.
@k9n8e0xf7u0c4k3 No particular rush at the moment, got a few other priorities to tackle first, but if I do get around to it what's the suburb?
Yeh they're still using these, repainted green but.
AussieGarbo they had SITA for a while, then a brand new green one and now they have a blue one like regular garbage
how old is the Truck
I would Have to say, not as good as our old Scrap Compactor that had a similar claw to Maitland. The End of 2006 when we got new bins
what area was this?
This is Bonnyrigg Heights area mate
Umm... yer obviously...
That's why it all fell out
I thought this might help with my assignment. Then again.. maybe not..
