Your father almost tearing up staring into the void at Julian's master craft lyricism on "ode to the Mets" devastating ending and you bobbing your head and smiling is a juxtaposition if I have ever seen one.. I was hurt deeply inside by them as well.
“The Adults are Talking” seems like it’s about parents arguing too. The high pitch and low pitch vocals going back and forth reminds me of like a mom and Dad arguing in front of a child “I know you think of me when you think of her” like the Dad is cheating.
It's more political than that. The rendition they performed on SNL makes it even clearer, although the lyrics give that tone already. We are the kids. The 0.1% are the adults. That is the sarcasticly put message, I would say.
Julian Casablancas actually did a cover of that SNL christmas song your dad brought up right after The Adults are Talking. It is called Christmas Treat or sometimes I Wish It Was Christmas Today by Julian Casablancas.
It's funny your dad mentioned The Killers as a similar band. I don't remember where I saw/heard it but The Strokes' first album was a major influence for the likes of The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, and a few others.
Strokes ARE the favorite band of the frontman of arctic monkeys 'alex turner',he even has a lyrics that goes like "I js wanted to be one of the strokes"
Man, i lost my father almost 6 years ago, and let me tell you something, i really enjoy every video you put up with your dad and how you vibe together, i cried with the Mac Miller's Swimming react video, and really enjoyed his react on Random Access Memories. Greetings from Chile!
Julian Casablancas said in an interview with Fantano, that the chorus from Bad decisions was intentionally done to sound like dancing with myself, pretending to be changed somewhere down the road but decided to leave it like that. If I remember well, he also said that Billy Idol was aware of it.
The best strokes album. This album single-handedly got me through 2020. Hope you do more of their records. (2:50 The album cover is an art piece by Jean-Michel Basquiat btw)
“Is this it” is the best guitar album of the 21st century, so by default is better than this. This is great but in the words of jules from pulp fiction “it’s not in the same ball park, it’s not even the same fucking sport!” If you were around and of a certain age (I was 20) when “is this it” was released then you will understand how good that album was, it literally created a genre, changed music, changed fashion and in an era of nu-metal domination, it was earth shattering. Nothing comes close. A literal masterpiece. My favourite album of all time and every song is killer
5:20 These guitar strums at the end have always reminded me of Charlie Brown's Christmas when the parents are talking and all you can hear is the trombone "wah wah" noise
I'm 45 and my son is 25. I love when he shares his interests with me and can articulate why he likes it. Being open to new things keeps you young, and communicates to others that you care about them deeply more than words can. You've raised a good kid. 👍
6:20 you guys are gonna love this, The Strokes have an official cover of that exact SNL skit song. It's on UA-cam, and it became my fave Christmas song instantly
The strokes is a good way of getting someone you like into rock if they’re not already a fan of rock. I was a huge rap fan for so long til I started getting into rock a couple of years ago and now I feel like rock is so much better man.
Same for me! I went to listen to it because i noticed Mach Hommy's Pray for Haiti had a similar cover (Mach's is a Basquiat imitation), and the full stereo mind filling sound pulled me in instantly.
It's funny your dad mentioned the SNL xmas song. That was written by Julian so it makes sense it sounded similar. Also, The Killers are not an Irish band, they are from Las Vegas. But a good comparison
I am sooo HAPPY that you both enjoyed this album!! This has been my favorite, comfort strokes album since it came out (i even had to get the vinyl), and to see you guys review/talk about it was so exciting. so ready for new strokes songs, they never disappoint.
Bad Decisions starts off sounding SOOOO much like Modern English’s - Melt With You. Also heard a little Billy Idol-Dancing with Myself Very reminiscent to the 80’s and I don’t mind one bit! ❤
Ahh yes, thank you for giving Melt With You a shout out, I hear that all the time when I listen to Bad Decisions. I know Billy Idol got writing creds plus the chorus does sound like Dancing with Myself, but I feel like so many people overlook how similar it sounds through the verses to Melt With You
So cool to be so close to each other, father and son!.. (Oh! btw, « father, son » from Peter Gabriel gives me tears each listening…)(WISH LONG AND GOOD LIFE TO YOUR NICE DAD!) …greatest artists are often torn…
! I’m commenting again to add that there are three bonus tracks after FUBT (not counting the remixes w Thundercat and Taylor) that really bookend the album idk why they added them as bonus tracks they really should just be the concluding songs lol sorry lmao long story short Im 110% sure Mike would fw Haim so much!
Just found this channel and I’m loving it. There’s so much I wanna recommend too hahaha. You’re both very articulate and thoughtful. I like how much of what you both say comes from a genuine heartfelt reaction. Hard to find at the moment. Keep doing what you do. 🤍✨
“Must be great to be young” if only he knew how old Julian actually is 😂 goes to show how youthful he continues to be in essence of music
i know man and at 45 he looks amazing and sounds better now than ever before
Your father almost tearing up staring into the void at Julian's master craft lyricism on "ode to the Mets" devastating ending and you bobbing your head and smiling is a juxtaposition if I have ever seen one.. I was hurt deeply inside by them as well.
it was almost cinematic
I noticed the same thing as well. I feel like both sides are relatable to us all when listening to this song.
“The Adults are Talking” seems like it’s about parents arguing too. The high pitch and low pitch vocals going back and forth reminds me of like a mom and Dad arguing in front of a child “I know you think of me when you think of her” like the Dad is cheating.

How would that be even possible knowing amonkeys first album was out like in 2005. Instead, monkeys are influenced by the strokes
@@jacobocastano8798 the strokes formed in 1998 bro and their first album was in 2001...

Sorry to hear and appreciate you so much. Glad you can get something out of our videos, much love ❤️❤️

You’re right he is aware, they even gave him a song writing credit for the track. Legends

@@arthurmorgandegen you don't have to be a certain age to know that "is this it" is a fantastic album
Is this it has inspired everything I did for years.

as a rap fan and a pretty new the strokes fan, didn't expect it but i'm excited. Hope you react to "is this is it" and more of their albums

Would love to see some old Strokes then some The Voidz reactions so he gets to really see Julian's range lol
Such a good album. Absolute W choice for the channel.
At the Door is one of my favorite songs of this decade! 😊
Yesss a banger. Listen to this all the time still. Such a good showcase of stereo audio and great mixing

Few things in life better than a Julian casablancas falsetto

You in the rhythm and your dad in the lyrics hahaha, good reaction ❤
Love this album and love that you guys reacted to this! 🔥🔥🔥
LOVE THIS ALBUM SO MUCH

This YT chain is one of the most touching I know.
Funny: I discovered The Strokes in 2011 grace to the Electricite de France advertising TV background music which was « The end has no end »!
i really love all the strokes albums, but the new abnormal is phew next level for them
i always loved the hook in why are sundays so depressing
yesss
loved this - don't know how big a fan you are but would love to see some king rule reactions
Love ling krule. Absolutely loving the new album
King krule is a must in the future
I'm addicted to see other people reacting to this album
Cool video/reaction!..I’ll be at the Forest Hills show 🙌🏼
Have him listen to Virtue by The Voidz as well! I’m sure he’d enjoy that different side of Casablancas and co.!
I'd bet that The Voidz are releasing an album before The Strokes do tbh
You were right
Wait… are you saying there’s a new Strokes album coming out imminently?!
Yep. Produced by rick rubin 👍🏼
@@putyouon 👀
The Killers are from Las Vegas, not Ireland. I think you may have confused them with U2.
bad decisions kindof sounds like i melt with you by modern english
The Dad should know Julian was about 40 when he did this.
