You made a fucking MOVIE! everything about this video is perfect! i loved your use of quotes. in other words this video is like worn in blue jeans but not fully destroyed
This is such a good video holy shit, 10/10. Love the sprinklings of the Voidz in the background too. EDIT just finished the video - who are you and how do you know so much
Mate, your like, a natural at this youtube commentary stuff. Delve into other bands with this sorta structure and my god I could see this channel exploding! Amazing content 👌
This is better than 99% of UA-cam, this video is insane. Thank you so much for blessing us with this video, and I'm sure the billion views this video deserves will come soon
First time watcher thanks to the UA-cam algorithim recommending you after binge-listening to The Strokes. Top class video, top class voice. Liked and subbed as soon as it finished, proper good work that
Goddamn it was a good video! I gotta admit, it speaks to me really well (pretty funny xd). So much production went into this. Huuuge respect. Very informative actually too. Great job. Also, love your music! Ima head out for a drink lol
absolutely sick vid from a fan of the era not someone who makes music, it felt like you put the words and formed them in a way my musically illiterate self was trying to also which cover is 16:30?
I have a karaoke theme party to go to in a couple of weeks! Everyone will be dressing up as their favorite musician and ya boi is dressing up as Julian Casablancas! I will definitely be using the tips from the video to formulate a live performance but is there any mic i could use for added effects?
You definitely don’t sound exactly like Julian Casablancas as you don’t have enough baritone in your voice. Really great video though. I think a great reference is Jim Morrison as the doors had a big influence on Julian
@@eltonwild5648 jokes aside, it’s a matter of repetition as well as testing where your at regularly (and being honest with yourself) in order to get better. The guy in this vid is right: find songs you love and try to get as close as you can note for note with the singer (if you’re not a preternaturally gifted vocalist obviously don’t try to sing some crazy technical vocal performance out of the gate etc)… but record yourself singing them over and over until you feel you ur close, listen back to the recordings, both to get used to your voice recorded as well as to take notes on how you could improve or where you went wrong. To get better without outside help you have to really love it and be ok with failure and with potentially not sounding great for a while.
Loved the video! Fantastic editing and your narration was just brilliant (cartoonishly breezy, but self aware enough to make fun of itself). I will say that "don't take voice lessons" is shit advice though. Not every voice teacher is some rigid, closed-minded demon that's going to try and force you into an opera singer. If you don't have a voice teacher, you're going to pick up some bad technique habits that are gonna silently rip your voice to shreds and you won't have some dude sitting in the corner to point out and correct them. As cool as OG Julian sounds, late Julian can do the same shit, more shit and doesn't hurt himself when he does it. Kurt Cobain didn't have a teacher and he fuckin hurt himself a lot when he sang. You can get that sound without the suffering, just takes hard work
I mostly agree, though I have met one such demon. The voice memo of me "trying it myself" on Soma was actually bad screaming technique, and I lost my voice for a couple days after. I do think a coach can be good for learning extreme techniques because they are risky, but up until that point I'm not a believer
@@IntergalacticFool I see where you're coming from. My primary stance is that, if I'm not making progress or something's straining and I can't figure it out myself, a teacher is the best answer
clicked on the video to learn production and ended up with an existential crisis
You can get awards with this short doc. Trust me. That is epic. Submit it to serious films awards. The top ones that has a short docs category.
My favorite julian vocalization is the one in new york city cops, you know the one in new york city cops
Finally a tutorial
so true enterprisingengines93
work of art, a brilliant labor of love
This is a very good video. Your production here is next level. It's not in your head, well done.
Came for the vocal teaching stayed for the story this is so good!

This is seriously one of my favourite videos on UA-cam now

Just impersonate Lou Reed and get a bit angry teen in the chorus.
But how do you learn to sing? It's actually one of the steps. Hire a teacher? Sing often and try improve?
You know how to get to Carnegie hall doncha ?
