There designed to use the American FRS channels and so are not allowed to be used in the EU and pretty much anywhere outside of the USA and possibly Canada. You would need to get actual PMR 446 radios to be legal in the UK. We used to use PMR446 radios at work with a supposed range of 7km but with the lack of a line of sight less ~1km was the range if you were lucky. We now used 4W licenced radios and it's much better, although, surprisingly, nit a huge amount more range.
Yeah we use licences business Radios at work and there has to be a repeater in the middle of the land otherwise they don’t reach to the other side. These radios are alright I’m sure their 500mw won’t hurt anyone lol. It’s probably not even that. My real PMR radios don’t really work that well in built up areas either. Far too much electronics around.

Not legal in UK as on 462 MHz not 446. The spanners out there probably wouldn't be aware of this😁
