I have bought several of these over the years and keep 3 in my car… they are so useful to have and used for a host of different things. Make a great kids present although not a toy and kids love them… adults often ‘borrow’ them I found and do the professionals theme tune when using. Brilliant things… I will buy more no doubt but do note they used to be soooo much cheaper!

Thanks for your review, Fred. This RT388 basically has all the basic functions of the adult walkie talkie, so it will take some time to learn to use it, I think this will be good for kids to activate their interest and enthusiasm in radio.👍

Wow, a certifiable bargain at approx 10 quid each! Honestly there's no reason for this stuff to cost what it used to... the main technologies used - electronics, battery, exterior materials - are all quite mature. Companies will just charge what they can until competition from a 'cheap copy' forces their hand and play the branding card as long as they can.
    Power to the masses

Hi you mentioned "privacy codes" in your video. If my understanding of these codes is correct, if one radio is set with a privacy code and the other is set with no code at all then the radio with no code can hear anything transmitted by the radio with a code set but not the opposite way around. Have I understood this correctly? I have a couple of PMR446 radios and I'm considering purchasing some for my grandchildren. Thanks

Hi Derek. Yes correct both radios need to be on the same channel and the same code to work. They are not total 100% privacy however as someone with a radio without privacy codes set will be able to hear the other radio but not be able talk back.
