In this product review, we will have a closer look at a set of license-free kids walkie talkies from Retevis.
The maximum range can vary depending on your environment, best distances are generally reached under optimal conditions (e.g. open line of sight).
More realistic is to assume a shorter range, because houses, trees, and other obstacles can reduce the signal quality significantly.
If you are located in the US, you can benefit from a slightly higher output power of up to 2 watts.
However, in Europe PMR446 radios are not allowed to have a replaceable antenna, and can only transmit at a lower output power of 0.5 watts.
Because of this, it is perfectly normal that these radios perform best in close range communication.
At first, a short range may seem like a disadvantage, but if you think about it, it also has advantages.
In a city with many users, simultaneous transmissions on the same channel, are less likely if the radios only have a short range.
The benefit, users are not constantly bothering each other on one of the 8-16 available PMR frequencies.
In addition, the low output power extends battery life, and you can use the radios longer while consuming less power.
Also, if your radio would transmit over longer distances, more people could listen in, which is also avoided by the weak transmission power. Because a potential eavesdropper would always have to be close enough to receive the signal.
In my test, the communication quality was good, personally, I think the Retevis RT388 is targeted at the entry-level user.

These radios perform really well for the low price they cost as usual great video post thanks for doing it it is much appreciated a good honest review....
Thanks, I am glad to hear that! Actually, I think the Retevis RT388 performed much better than the RT33, usually, all the Retevis radios I test work very well.

Great review, I just got this product and am happy with it! Thanks!
Glad to hear that!
I also speak German myself. I was born in the United States, but my family moved from Germany to United States and that’s how I know German since I learned it from them. Great video by the way
Thanks for sharing!
I bought this and on a quick test on full new batteries got 400M in a moving vehicle from a stationary building between multiple rows of houses before the reception crapped out. They are pretty good. Will get further use of them properly later in the year.
Sounds about right, buildings will always reduce the range very fast.
The main thing for the consumer to understand is that these PMR radios all have “low range” unless you are somewhere in the countryside with flat terrain and no obstacles.
@@ReviewTechTV yes, they are pretty neat. 0.5w can be handy.
Hi please tell me which one better T388 or BF T3 I need to buy soon for my kids
Also identical to the BELLSOUTH T-388 (my kids got them as a gift, but they are the 22-ch FRS version, so no way to pair them with my TLKR T80 Extreme, as we are in Europe)
Great reviews. So which would be your pick for a kid's radio out of those you had previously reviewed? Thanks!
It's hard for me to pick a single one, just make sure you get the FRS version if you are in the states, maybe the Retevis RT24, it was one of the first radios I reviewed, and it proves to be very popular.
How long do the batteries last on average?
Cheers good range test yes a good surprize on distance
Absolutely
Thank you for this video. I have an issue. No communication possible with all settings correct. What could cause that? Cheers

PERFECT REVIEW, thanks!
Awesome, glad to hear that, greetings fly out from Europe!
What channel should I sync both radio to make them work?
It depends if you are using the European PMR or the American FRS radios.
PMR radios have channel 1~16 all using 0,5 watts output power.
FRS has 1~22 channels, where some have low and some have high output power of 2 watts.
Hello. Range test in city?
1 km
