      @@rozastra he Is the strongest force to reckon with in any sport's anime, or at least team based sport's anime. There Is no One that has so much impact on a team sport's anime. Karasuno litterally positioned the block all game to counter his best move(the cross) and he still managed to score more than 40 points. And This was probably also the best game Tsukki and noya played in the entire series.

    One thing to note, Washijo-sensei is in his 70s in this match (Haikyū is set in 2012). Taking into account real life history, when he was younger, he was playing volleyball before Japan's National Men's Team won Gold during the 1972 Summer Olympics. This is essential to understand him in his youth because real life Coach Matsudaira and his team are credited with developing the quick attack we know today. There was not a strategy developed for smaller players to fight yet- it had not been conceived. To make it clear, an inexperienced teenager is not the first thought or expectation in being able to pull off something like this. 🏐👐

    Nishinoya always gets a ton of (deserved) praise for his foot receive earlier in the series, but this is his most impressive moment to me. The way Goshiki just floats, looming above the net before he smashes it down, and for Noya to react so quickly after diving a second ago?? It’s siiiick

      @@wildpokemon2 it’s great cuz there’s an earlier rally where nishinoya has an overpass, and while he’s still not in ready position, ushiwaka slams the overpass down. like this episode’s dig, noya goes for it but he isn’t able to touch.
      i think it’s a great subtle indication that nishinoya will go for every ball no matter who’s attacking it, and that consistent perseverance sometimes pays off as we see here :)

    A small detail I like about Noya’s super save is that the scenario happened earlier in the match with a short serve into an overpass that gets crushed. The thing that Oikawa was talking about, that Karasuno doesn’t have a style to protect, is such an interesting concept. We’ve seen other teams with specific styles and coaches that have been with them for years, and Karasuno who have a style that was tailored to their current team and a coach who is not afraid to try new things. I think that is the appeal of Karasuno as a team and maybe this really is their style, that they just try anything they want.

    • @adamschulz9475
      @adamschulz9475 Місяць тому +7

      What you are talking about to me is the highest form of coaching. Once you really understand your players l, their strengths and how to get the most of your current team; this is true coaching. A lot of inexperienced coaches try to fit players into their idea of the best system. I love this obsession and comment by Oilawa

    • @maryt2786
      @maryt2786 Місяць тому +1

      @@adamschulz9475 I agree, but I can see how it can be difficult to adapt every year when new players come and go. You need a strong base to then build the team depending on the players’ talents and growth. I think having a style is good as a start.
      But they way old coaches focus more on “the way the team is supposed to be” rather than adapting to the players, is a very bad mindset. You may win if you get players that fit your style, but you can’t be consistent in winning. And it is tricky to get out of that mindset, especially if you need to admit that you have failed, but you can’t see growth if you don’t change things up a little.

      @adamschulz9475 Місяць тому +2

      @@maryt2786 I completely agree, and don't get me wrong there are fundamentals (your strong base) that should always be the focus and worked on and there is a more or less "right" way to do those. its cool because the other schools can do that because they're powerhouse schools with big reputations, they can pick players that fit there styles because they have tons of people to choose from, Karasuno is an school that lost its big name, people see them as a thing of the past, so it took whoever would join pretty much, so they had to make whoever they had work. 36:28 for any folks wondering what she meant by "foreigner playing in korea" style numbers, basically, in korea's volleyball league, there still use the "only 1 foreigner allowed / team" rule, where, as it sounds, there is only one international player allowed to a given korean volleyball team.
    more often than not, the role of this international player is simply to score and swing at absurd numbers. 60 swings in practice, 60 swings in games, etc. it can get pretty insane to hear about.

    Adam already looking to pick Ushijima for the fantasy draft

    • @Eclipse40
      @Eclipse40 Місяць тому +21

      Who wouldn't? At this point in the series, he is by far and away the most dominant player we've ever seen play. 40 points is certifiably insane. And he even plays in the Opposite position where there isn't a single player in relativity. He is the only Opposite classified as a top 5 ace as well. Whoever grabs him in the draft is at an inherent advantage. The other players with advantages even close to Ushijima are Kageyama, Oikawa, and Bokuto. Bokuto has his moodiness AND plays in a position with a lot more competition like Asahi, Iwaizumi, Reon, Goshiki, Nakashima. Kageyama and Oikawa are exactly the reason they aren't as valuable. If one grabs Kageyama, that leaves Oikawa open to be picked and vice-versa. That's all to say Ushijima is just such incredible value on a Haikyuu draft that it's pretty unfair.

    • @lucyseverine9907
      @lucyseverine9907 Місяць тому +7

      @@Eclipse40Given the Kageyama/Oikawa thing, I'd actually say when one person picks Ushijima, the second pick of choice is Aone.
      Ushijima, he's the only player who's *head and shoulders* better in his position than the next best choice (probably Kuroo, or maybe Tsukki).
      He's not a single-person victory condition the way Ushijima is, but I do think he gives the next greatest overall boost to team quality?

    8:53 Love that Reon gives Daichi his props, often overlooked
    17:57 that's in the anime, he is much more passionate in the manga. He still says he wants to stand out the least, but that doesn't mean he isn't good or doesn't know when not to set to Ushijima, the crowd even critizes him for not setting him a lot at one point and he still doesn't give it to him because he knows that it's important to rest him for the more crucial points. He even admires Ushijima soooo much but he still knows when not to push him, I mean look at that face 24:00, he looks up to him so much, pity it was washed down in the anime, because it was very funny too since he sometimes took that admiration too far
    26:47 this goes back to the whole read vs guess debate that happend in ep 2, here Tendo says he read it, so his play style isn't about just jumping based on feeling, but he reads so little in such a quick time that he doesn't need to wait for the toss like other read blockers like Tsukki
    32:50 I feel we don't talk about the fact that Lev and Tsukki seem to be in such good terms, I mean they are discussing their play style, Tsukki even takes what Lev says seriously, doesn't diminish what he thinks but gives his personal preference, Lev even calls him "Tsukki" and doesn't get corrected

That will continue until the very end." And no matter who wins, that choice is the best for that team. Just because a team loses doesn't mean it's a bad team. i feel like one of the reasons washijo-sensei doesn't want to accept that hinata is successful is because that would be admitting that washijo himself could also have been successful as a player if he kept pushing himself. it pleases his inferiority complex to believe that he failed to stay playing due to reasons out of his control.

    I know Adam already gives blockers priority in his drafts(cough..aone cough..kuro..), but adding into the a mix, a kill blocker(tendo) and the newly awakened read blocker in Tsukki is gonna be interesting during the drafting stream.

    🗣 noya is the only karasuno player on ushijima's level
    It's interesting to me how negatively you two both reacted to the coach's flashback, when "no one here is just tall, I know that" is honestly one of my favorite quotes in the series. To me it's a great moment of self awareness, only having talent without working hard can only take you so far, just like only working hard without being very athletic. It's always funny to me looking up the vert and 40 yd times of what people consider "unathletic" athletes who really more on skill and hard work in leagues like the NBA or NFL, Oh he only has a 33" vert" (average person is 16" iirc lol). I think the where the coach went wrong is not necessarily in realizing this, but in narrowing it down to where he himself fell short. Hinata is by no means the average 5'4" boy, his athleticism makes him an insane outlier even if the skill isn't really there yet. I just think the quote works great both as a moment of self awareness that a lot of people need to have, and as an indication of why the character's reasoning is ultimately flawed :)
    Also, that first person POV of Ushijima has me wondering as a lefty myself, is serving lefty a disadvantage in volleyball? I'm not a volleyball player myself but seeing it from that POV made me think about how uncomfortable it would be trying to generate force while externally rotating if I wanted to serve anywhere but straight ahead (or the corner I suppose).

    The most important frame in this episode, is actually the Oikawa/Washijo panel.
    Both of them believe that stronger and talented is always better, nobody denies that, but Oikawa who has repeatedly lost to Ushijima, holds onto his worthless pride, and refuses to believe that he has reached his ceiling and keeps climbing. And Washijo, with his 40 years he wants to deny Hinata, because he wants to believe he truly did all he can but could not break through the "bigger is better" talent barrier. Every time Hinata impresses him, Washijo has to face the fact that he gave up before he climbed higher because he let people tell him that was his limit, and he hates that, he wants to defeat that, he wants to kill that, those who refuse to give up even if they seemed to have reached their limits...
    ... These super volleyball idiots.

    ADAM TEAR COUNTER: 3
    I think Ushiwaka was asking the merciless thing bc he will not change his hits when trying to power through Tsukki blocks, and wanted to make sure the setter wasn't going to be phased by that. Less so that he wants the setter to keep leaning on him; every match that's close I assume they lean on Ushi heavily, so Tsukki's injury is the only new factor.
    After hearing mauled-finger story time last week, you are both 100% Tsukki telling Coach he IS going in hahah... On that same topic, seeing Tsukki serve with his bad hand had me wondering how you deal with dominant-hand injuries when serving (especially Sarahs pinkie game, if that was dominant hand)? Just bear down and try to serve as normally as you can, or try to alter your serve as it may be more effective modifying than serving through the pain? assuming serving would be tougher than hitting, bc you know for a very long several seconds you're about to serve and it's going to suck, whereas you don't have time to think about hits in the flow of the game...and maybe that's a dumb question bc I'm transferring other sport experiences of knowing before vs doing it without thinking...would love to hear both of your insights! Tsukki has a little "tchuh😣" on that serve I haven't noticed before.
