This is Ushijima's last high school volleyball game. When he says to Hinata and Kageyama "I will beat you next time," he's basically saying that he will face them again in the pro league. In a way, he's acknowledging both of them as great players capable of standing on the same pro level as him in the future.

For reference, Tendō’s line “Farewell, my paradise” is really meaningful. Shiratorizawa was the only place he could play the way he wanted without feeling ashamed or being judged. They accepted him and made him feel loved just the way he is. He made friends for once and felt joy in a new way. Now it’s gone. He doesn’t plan on playing volleyball anymore so he’s saying goodbye to his one true “paradise” that made him whole.
Also, in Japan it’s not very common for parents to come to sporting events since it’s such a hard-working country. They’re usually at work while their kids are destroying each other on the volleyball court.
Also also, you missed an after credit scene! It’s not that big of a deal though because it shows it in the small recap at the beginning of season 4. You should watch the Land vs Air OVA before season 4. It’s 2 episodes and should be on Crunchyroll!
Last thing, notice how earlier in the season the Shiratorizawa coach (Washijo) said he would make every team member walk back to school if he wasn’t satisfied with the way they played. Even though they lost, they all got to ride the bus back.

I would say watch the credits scene even if you don't record it. Yeah there's the recap with it, but I always felt like the credits scene was a really special way to show's next direction.

Nekoma, Fukurodani, and 2 other top teams compete, and 3 of them are representatives (Since Tokyo is so big, there’s typically 2 teams, but since they’re hosting the tournament, they earn another seat in the nationals competition this year!)
Please watch the OVAs, they give great in site and should be watched before starting Season 4 (To The Top)!

17:05 "Super volleyball idiot" is a pretty accurate translation of what Leon said there. Although in this context, they aren't really calling him an idiot in the traditional sense of the word (i.e. a stupid person); what they mean by it is that he's completely obsessed with volleyball and that he's a monster at it. So they aren't really insulting him, it's more something they're saying in awe of his ability and drive at the game.

"Volleyball idiots" is the literal translation for the episode, and how Shiratorizawa likes to call Ushijima, but it doesn't necessarily mean something bad or insulting. In Japanese it is used more to refer to people who are crazy about something and can't think of anything else, almost like saying "they go dumb for..." i guess. In this case the title of the episode makes a reference to how Hinata and Ushijima "go dumb for volleyball" cause they love it so much. Hope it helps! Thanks for the reaction!!

@@hyrochow I would say that because of context, the word "nerd" might not apply that much. I think it goes more along the lines that they're "idiots" because of their drive and passion to play, and are willing to push through anything to do crazy plays, and how good they are.

@@sofieeh I'd say both words have similar connotations - an undying love and an unquenchable passion for something (subjective to each individual's respective journey, of course, but ykwim). Over here (in India) we use a whole bunch of such words (crazy, mad, nerd - to name some) alternatively for people who exhibit those traits.
Does it have negative connotations also used to troll/bully people? Yes. But I'd say that coming from the right person the respectable/positive connotations (also doubling down as positive reinforcement, 'compliments') could get exponentially amplified.

The genuine gasps and mouth aghast at 20:21 was hilarious. I was like “This is a stronger response than with Tsukki’s block- oh right she’s a Libero.” XD
Nishinoya's double block is probably the most insane play in the match. Tsukki's block is more hype because you can see him suddenly fall in love with volleyball and finally get excited, but nishinoya's block was just crazy.

Tendou saying "Farewell, my paradise" gets me every time bc that was the last time he would play volleyball since he's a third year
And he decided to quit because of this game. Like that's heavy but shows this isn't something he really wanted to do the rest of his life. I think this game helped him realize his mindset in volleyball wasn't the healthiest.
38:25 Something to keep in mind is that Ushijima is a senior. This was his last match in High School. So when he says “I’ll beat you next time” it’s both a challenge but also an acknowledgement that they’re good enough to play after High School.

The matchball will never not give me chills. The entire backstory leading up to it, starting all the way back in Season 2 when Hinata and Kageyama met Ushijima and Hinata stole his ball but also during the match, especially from Tsukki, the symbolism when the entire team comes together, all six crows, to beat the great white eagle, the awesome animations, especially that beautiful rotating shot and while all of this is happening we have "Battle of Concepts", one of the best pieces of the entire soundtrack playing in the background.
All of this combined is just *chefs kiss* ❤❤❤

Small detail but the Shiritorizawa Coach said, “You’re running back to school if you play a bad game.” and one of the first things he says after the loss was, “Get on the bus.”
Another detail is that Ushijima is a third year definitely becoming a pro, and on his last high school game he says “I’ll defeat you next time.” showing how he believes that Kageyama and Hinata could go pro and fight him on a national stage~

I also absolutely love the coach's relationship with shoyo. Like we see it continue later on in the training camp but he so desperately needs shoyo to fail because if he succeeds he has to acknowledge that he himself gave up in his dreams not because he couldn't compete at his height, but because he didn't have the drive or desire to continue when faced with the same difficulties as shoyo
Yes I love how he is happy enough with the game to let them rest on their way home, but also believes enough in them to make them practice even harder once they get there!

I wish Haikyuu had like more Ova episodes showing us more about nationals that took place while Karasuno was building their team... Like to actually see teams like Shiratorizawa representing Miyagi prefecture at Nationals

When you first learn that all of Season 3 is a single match it sounds crazy. But when you talk to anyone who has actually sat through it(multiple times for many of us)it never feels that long. The pacing is great, it's filled to the brim with so many memorable moments. Anyhow thanks for having us for another season of Haikyuu, hope you have a wonderful holidays. See you next year✌️
Oh my god, that is SOOO true! The first time I finished up to the training camp in S4 and then casually scrolled up to the past eps, I was SHOCKED when I saw the Shiratorizawa match was the whole S3 (I had caught that all the plays were taking up entire episodes, but I hadn't noticed S3 was only 10 eps the first time around)!
Context: I'm not a manga person, I stumbled on Haikyuu randomly while surfing around Netflix last year. And now this is my 4th time watching the S3 Finale (2nd time was with Coach Donny, 3rd was a 'collage compilation' of some other reaction channels).

As far as I understand, Ushijima is already set to represent Japan at the national level, so he's guaranteed to go pro. Him telling Kageyama and Hinata that he'll beat them "next time" is not only a challenge but high praise because they're first years and he's about to graduate, so the next time they would logically have a chance to play against each other would be at the professional level
The thing that got me emotional was at the part with the representation of ushijima holding hinata and tsukki down with his overwhelming ability. I was emotional because the people who supported them to get back up, tanaka, asahi and daichi, were the ones they just said have never taken a break the whole game. They should be the most exhausted, and yet they were the ones to come in clutch when the first years needed support. That's SO amazing.
The scene where suga, daichi and asahi hugs each other right after the win always makes me cry a few tears (tears of joy/happiness ofc). The moment you realize they achieved what they said they wanted to when they joined karasuno just affects me massively. "knowing" the effort and hours they have put into the past years makes it even better 👏🏻

@@h4mmy191 Depends which part. Part 1 has consistently amazing animation. Part 2 doesn't, but the best animation in season 4 is better than the best animations in other seasons in my opinion.
She's not a weeb so she probably won't care about a minimal change in artstyle and will mainly focus on the story and volleyball side of the series like she always has lol.
The ending episode of this season is probably my favorite Haikyuu episode, and I don't think I need to explain why. HHH we're here early!!

The VA work in the dub isn’t as strong but the translators and writers really do fantastic with the English script.

Everything about this climax is perfect and I’ve been waiting for you to see it since your very first reaction vid. The visualization of the pressure Ushiwaka put on Hinata and Tsukki and the team relieving them, the animation and that gorgeous 360 degree pan, the symbolism of the crows and the eagle, and the amazing music all make this probably my favorite climax from any anime I’ve ever watched. So glad you loved it!
The OVAs are on Crunchyroll as well and they give us a glimpse at Nekoma’s qualifiers. You should watch them before you start season 4. Also, you missed the end credits scene at the end of episode 10!

YES! Can we talk about how great "The battle of the concepts" OST is? I feel like people don't really appreciate/pay attention to it, I love this OST and listen to it too often lol
Yeah, this episode is called バレー馬鹿たち (baree bakatachi) which literally means "volley(ball) idiots" lol. baka means idiot, and the suffix -tachi is for a group of individuals. though it's worth saying that in japanese, you can call someone a "_______ idiot" to mean that they can only think about that thing. in case you thought it meant someone who's dumb at volleyball

Just so you’re prepared, please know that the art style for season 4 is different than the previous seasons. It’s not necessarily bad, it’s just different enough to be jarring and will likely take time to get used to. But the *plot* of season 4 is so so great and that’s what really matters!

Every time I watch that noya play I'm out of my chair just like that. Absolutely ridiculous! And Yeah don't forget to watch the 2 OVA episodes "Land vs Air" & "Path of the ball" before jumping to season 4. They're kind of connectors to the next season.

The translation volleyball idiots is correct however the context is a little different. In Japanese you might call someone who only thinks about or uses most of their brain power on one thing,in this case volleyball, an “idiot”. Calling Ushijima a volleyball idiot is basically saying that he is crazy for volleyball and has given his life to volleyball. It is not an insult and in fact shows his passion towards volleyball.
Missed an after credit scene + theres an extra scene from shiratorizawa's perspective of after the game.
If you can include those in the next video before the next episode plays thatd be lovely :)

When the setter told Ushijima that he would get the balls to him while he's still "of use" he means that Ushijima was getting very tired (as can be seen from this 3rd spike in a row, he wasn't able to jump properly and hit the net). So Ushijima was saying he's very tired and that he might not be able to hit every ball anymore.
VIIIIIIC, there's a post scene in this episode, it's very important (although the beginning of season 4 is the same scene with a different art style). And don't forget OVAs "Land Vs Air", it's listed as a different season on Crunchyroll so you have to watch it BEFORE season 4 please. And I'm sure you'll like it.

If you wanted to do a guessing game the best way would be get soundclips of the voiceactors doing roles in other animes and then you have to identify which Haikyuu character that Voice actor is for

Parents are very unlikely to be at games, unless it's the championships, because qualifier games are usually held on weekdays, and early in the day at that, like at 9-11 AM. And most Japanese fathers are at work, and mothers are busy at home. (The traditional gender dichotomy is fairly firmly held). Japanese work culture is too intense for parents to take time off in the middle of the week to watch a qualifier. They might if it were for the championships, but maybe not even then. In Japan, taking leave off work is seen as "putting your work on another person's plate" and is highly frowned upon and socially discouraged, sadly.
Happy Holidays Vic! I hope you have a great two months. I do recommend watching the Haikyuu Land vs Air OVAs which show the prefecture qualifier for Tokyo (which is where Nekoma and Fukurodani are), although unlike Miyagi (where Karasuno is) who only gets one representative in nationals, Tokyo gets three representatives.
I would actually watch you reacting to your first reaction even for just a video or 2. Maybe it does not have to be full length of each, just highlights so that maybe in 1 YT video you can watch up to 3 Haikyuu episode.

It is at least the 3rd time Hinata is doing back attack. First he did it against Aoba Jousai in second season(with monologue “my back attack debut”) and gets blocked.
Second he does it earlier in this match.

At 13:10, Shirabu is referring to Ushijima being tired and less fit to spike. You can see in the last spike he does in the previous play that he was straining to get up and that’s why he hit the net because he didn’t jump as high.

@@patgray5402 she will eventually watch it because of the views but clearly she doesn’t like the anime so it’s taking her a long time to start it up again. She has watched three seasons so far but it took her years.
She’s not a full time UA-camr, she’s a professional volleyball player, and I’m pretty sure she has other occupations too. And she’s about to upload Haikyuu too.
@@gabrielyeung6710 That is incorrect. She played volleyball in college and uploads volleyball content but she is not a volleyball professional. She definitely has the time to sit down and watch a 20 minute anime episode and then send it to her editor.

I feel like she likes the series but isn’t too into it, I’ve seen a lot of her reactions and she’s yawning most of the time and she just glosses over a lot of the key moments just because she can’t be asked to “try to understand”. I’m not trying to hate I’m just pointing out what I see and I may be wrong but it’s my opinion.
hola luis, capaz no la seguis en sus otras redes, pero esta mujer esta ocupadisima, mas con el tema de su casamiento, se nota que esta muy agotada porq no para todo el dia de trabajar, asiq es mas que entendible Y HUMANO q este bostezando todo el tiempo porq literal esta mujer no esta durmiendo estos ultimos 2 meses. hay q entender un poquito. lamentablemente se nota en los videos porq tiene mucho en la cabeza, incluso ella misma puso la semana pasada q tuvo una crisis mental y por eso no subió nada, asiq tampoco se puede esperar mucho de alguie nq esta pasando por tanto jaja, ahora se va a tomar un tiempo y va a volver a subir cosas en enero, asiq esperemos que ahi este un poco menos colapsada de trabajo asi puede disfrutar del anime.

she loses focus easly to talk about someting else, loses dialog, does not understand simple references, confuses characters that are well know.
she in alot of videos seems yawning and a face of bored, and thet she says that because shes tired.
i still will follow the reactions until the end because she understands the sport ecause if not i had already given up.
i also follow Elevate Yourself and damm how i hate his narration, he always narrating the obvious like " he said hello, he walked" but atleast he is into the anime.
but to me the best Volleyball player reactor is 100% Sarah Pavan Volleyball she understands well everyting and knows how to react
i think she likes it but i think its her first Anime and probably she normally doesnt pay much attention in Series and she can just enjoy half of the show because she just understands 50% of the good aspects
@@pintas77 Sarah Pavan really is the best. It always suprises me how much she can understand the show and its humour on her first time watching. She is also one of the few that seem to be actually emotionally invested in it.
