The song doesn't have much to the young. As we get older we fully understand it's meant. The 4 seasons to our life. Spring, Summer, Fall, and the darkness of Winter.
There is a video on UA-cam she performing the same song in 2009 with the Dillard's same guys in this video years later. She sounded exactly the same as she does here.
I watched this show since my childhood and now I'm an old man. I'm pretty sure everyone that played on the show is gone now. Thank God we have UA-cam and TV stations that keep these classic shows going. We get a glimpse into the past and realize how good life use to be. It takes our mind off of how the world is today. It gives us time to reflect on memories of the past and our friends and family who are no longer with us. When I was a child my grandfather and I watched this show everyday at 5pm, we always had supper early so we wouldn't miss it.
Andy Sure Couldn't Take His Eyes Off Charlene... Love The Song And People Singing It. Too Bad They Don't Make Shows Like This Anymore... Such A Shame!😪😪😪😪💔💔💔💔
Aww omg I can't believe Charlene passed away today 😭😭😭 I was just listening to this song last night. I literally listened to this and thought of her. She was truly a beautiful ray of sunshine
Let charlene her memory and her love will not be forgotten she will be remember and be missed let her music be remember there is time be remember all generations playing music it's popular everyone plays that song if everyone doesn't know how to play there is time.
I Absolutely Love These Types Of Shows. They Remind Me Of When Things Were Better And Happier. Why Can't There Be Shows Like That Anymore? BECAUSE WE NEED THOSE SO DESPERATELY!😪😪😪😪
Andy's face in this clip makes me well up with emotion. To me the look on his face freezes Charlene's youth and innocence and her kind heart in a second of time. I'm not saying it right how I feel. This is one of those moments where everything lines up. The line "we need a fire against the cold" is haunting. The banjo her worn swearer with the holes Andy's face when he stops playing to watch her, it all comes together. This is by far my favorite scene out of all the seasons of the show. That and the old fashioned wringer washing machine on their back porch. It's only shown one time in all the years on tv. Im75 so I get sappy seeing and hearing some things.
Just a great scene. The comic components don’t detract from the authentic delivery of a beautiful song, and it’s completely free of unnecessary embellishments. The repeated shots of Andy’s face, and when he eventually stops to just take it in, are as good as TV has ever been.
As you get older thr message of this song hits home even more. I've been listening to it for 11 years and every time I wish I could go back to live my life over. 😩 If I could there's many many things I wouldn't miss out on that I have now.
When I was a kid and this show came on I thought it was too old fashioned an uncool. Luckily I grew up and past the top 40 pop stuff - and the beauty of this music and the culture it comes from has grown on me
I still watch this show . It doesn't matter how many times I see the same things and laugh . Those to me were good times . Things were left to the imagination, life and people were respected and respectful towards eachother. People honored the American flag. They went to church. I don't know what is going to be in this country at the rate we are going now . Its really sad that things have changed so much. What do our grandchildren have to look forward to???
The same was said in the '60s. Vietnam War, civil rights protests, campus riots drug culture out of control and as far as going to church, ask the people who sent their children only to be molested by priests. You have a selective memory, but if that makes you feel better so be it.
d hart John was trying to speak of a particular era by leaving out the worst of the worst. This clip came from after Korean War and before Vietnam. Yes, there's been much grief after that as well.
Well said.. A Time before terrible ( cocaine the Devils dandruff) and other drugs took control of the world and corrupted every family in the world 🌎..first time watching this show..🤔🤣😂✨🕯🌿🎶🧘♀️🎶🌿🕯✨
@@dhart8451 That was the Catholic Church and the Vatican--rotten to the core since the beginning of their existence. As far as the rest, the politicians and controllers created those events, not the people. Things haven't changed as far as the evil, but the good people are still trying to survive the best they can.
I would like to own every season of Gunsmoke & Andy Griffith show!! Best ever, with the best talent I've EVER seen. The Andy Griffith show represents to me and I'm certain Andy Griffith tried to portray a much simpler life, and that it doesn't have to be chaotic like today, and to TRUST & TREAT people more in a family way, instead of just a good neighborly way. It shows that it doesn't have to be that serious. That we as a society can stop all the drama, wars, racial division, and just being played off against each other. It's what we all really want, and that's why we all come here,FACTS!!
With Maggie singing it. Like I said I have heard other artists including the Dillards but none as beautiful. All the other versions tend to sound faster. Takes away the beauty of Maggie's voice and the bands playing.
I always enjoyed the Darling family coming down from the mountain to Mayberry for a visit and singing their mountain folk songs on the Andy Griffith Show. I never watched it on prime time on TV when I was a kid in the 60's due to the fact no cable TV in our home, only a TV antenna on the roof. But somehow someway the CBS station, channel 2 from Los Angeles, CA. did come in during mid mornings airing the reruns B & W episodes of the Andy Griffith Show in the mid 60's as well as I Love Lucy (later The Lucy Show), The Beverly Hillbillies, The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Real McCoy's. Mountain Folk music was influenced from folk songs and music from England, Ireland and Scotland by the settlers from those countries.
Any episode with The Darlings was guaranteed to be worth rushing home for. I still try to catch them. I especially live the episode, where we first meet them.
Awesome. May she RIP in the Good Lord's grace. Sad to read today of her passing. Sounds like she loved her man, Gus Mancuso, all her life and did not linger too long after he just passed in December 2021.
Who else has come here since the passing of Maggie Peterson aka Charlene Darling to embrace this beautiful song😌🌹
I have I loved ❤the way she sang this song.
I was blessed to meet her precovid at the Andy Griffith festival in Mt. Airy.
She. Was. Very. Goof🎉
She was great. This song should have been a hit with her singing it.
The song doesn't have much to the young. As we get older we fully understand it's meant. The 4 seasons to our life. Spring, Summer, Fall, and the darkness of Winter.
It's touching how entranced Andy is by her singing. He stops playing guitar and just gazes.
How The Dillards faded that out at the end was pure.
Maggie Peterson just passed away. This is a wonderful performance by her. I loved how in mid song Andy stops playing and just listens.
I do to.
Nicely done i like it too
She just mesmerizes me with this
I so love that too and just stops and listens she had such a beautiful voice

I think Andy couldn't help but watch in awe, acting set aside. Just like the rest of us.

Rodney Dillard is still alive also Ron Howard and Elinor Donahue (Ellie Walker)
Very well said, pretty much exactly how I feel
Such a true comment
Luv how she sang this rip Charlene 😢❤
Andy Sure Couldn't Take His Eyes Off Charlene... Love The Song And People Singing It. Too Bad They Don't Make Shows Like This Anymore... Such A Shame!😪😪😪😪💔💔💔💔
How tedious to capitalize every word.
yeah, the days of beautiful scenes like this one are as rare as blue roses.

The boys were a phenomenal band!
The Dillards can flat play.
They're always saying some of their songs "make them cry", but this one really does for me. So beautifully done and poignant. I love the whole scene.
So perfect////

Maggie Peterson, who played Carlene, passed away on May 15 at the age of 81.
When I hear this song, I think of my parents. :(
Shepherd's Chapel Network !!!!!!! Chapter by Chapter / Verse by Verse !!!!!!! Amen
As Andy said, I do believe that's the prettiest thing I've ever heard.
This one always makes me cry.... but I fight it. 🙂
Not me.

SAPPINESS IS WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS MORE OF. FEELINGS ARE ESSENTIAL TO BEING CIVILIZED.
Best version of this song....hands down
While I do agree, Alan Jackson did a phenomenal version
uh, have you heard Billy Strings do it?
She had her time and did a great job. God bless her.
The actress who played Charlene died this week. 81. This will make me cry 😢.
Some of the best episodes were the ones with the Darlings, no doubt!
Don't forget Earnest T Bass
Very true!
This song for some reason hits me right in the heart!!
me too. I love this song. and charlene does a great job.
Wow
It always makes me cry.
@@vickiross1025 : me too.
It's her heart, talkin ta your heart.
It was one of the prettiest things I ever heard. RIP Maggie.
How can anyone not fall in love with her voice.
Now I see why Ernest T. Bass was so relentless for her love! I loved that boy he was a rock chucker!
Charlene has a great voice
She was still commenting on the Dillard's UA-cam channel awhile back....Her names Maggie Peterson
yes, she sings in a lower register...cute as a button too.

One of my favorite songs from Andy Griffith. Awesome!!!!
Have watched every episode, been home since 1pm and have bwwn binge watching a d this episode is the one I'm watching
RIP Maggie you were one in a million say hey to Andy 💔
This song is so pure and complete.
OMG: how I love this melody + the lyrics are sunblime
Her voice is so simple and pure. This song is so lovely. Doug Dillard, (banjo), was an incredible talent.
She didn't need any makeup. She was and will always be a symbol for purity and innocence. I DO HOPE TO SEE HER IN HEAVEN.
Me too!!!
This is so beautiful ❤️
Well I believe that's the prettiest thing I ever heard.
I bet I've seen this video 15 or 20 times. I never tire of it!
I was maybe ten or so when this episode aired...the world was a much nicer place!
As you get older thr message of this song hits home even more. I've been listening to it for 11 years and every time I wish I could go back to live my life over. 😩 If I could there's many many things I wouldn't miss out on that I have now.

Thank you for sharing

NoBleus
They should make shows like this again.
"How pure" ! A pretty ballad of sentimentality. 😌

I remember hearing this that night. I think I was about 8 or 9 years old and I never forgot it. Beautiful lyrics and singing.
I love this rendition!!!
I had to watch this after watching the Billy Strings version. I love them both, but this one made me tear up.
That was a wonderful show. Maggie looked so pretty, lover her dearly. Rest in peace to all who passed on from this show.
I'm going to play this tune for my mom; I'm from a big family, I want her to hear it before she goes..
Love that song
This is one of my favorites. Brings tears to my eyes.
My favorite of all their songs! Wish it was for sale on ITunes
With Maggie singing it. Like I said I have heard other artists including the Dillards but none as beautiful. All the other versions tend to sound faster. Takes away the beauty of Maggie's voice and the bands playing.
I'm having this at my funeral
Beautiful!
She had a voice of an angel
RIP

She says it all in the song.
This is priceless to me.

Awesome. May she RIP in the Good Lord's grace. Sad to read today of her passing. Sounds like she loved her man, Gus Mancuso, all her life and did not linger too long after he just passed in December 2021.
There is a time..beautiful song
Love this song
Tank you Mr. Morrison. There's so much talent in that room. Wonderful.
And that Mandolin play with Maggie's voice pure magic!
I just loved Charlene Darling on Andy Griffith...even though the show was before my time. She could really sing, this song is very touching.
Beautiful !!!
I always enjoyed these guys they always had good bluegrass music
So good! So fabulous!
This song and this show was on in a time when I was younger. And now Mr. Darling it makes me cry.
