Every child should be raised watching The Andy Griffith Show. Hundreds of years from now I hope people are still watching. You learn a lot about how to treat people. James Best played in a TON of westerns in the 50s & 60s, starting in 1950. And he played in some non-westerns too. He's obviously not playing the guitar on this recorded event, but he could play guitar. He also wrote songs. His uncle was Ike Everly, one of the best guitarist in the south, who teamed up at times with one of the greatest guitar players that ever lived, Merle Travis. Ike Everly was the father of Don & Phil Everly-The Everly Brothers, who are in the RocknRoll Hall of Fame AND the Country Music Hall of Fame. And yes, Although James Best was NOT in the same league with Ike Everly, he COULD play. Dang good actor too. R.I.P. JAMES BEST
He sure didn’t look like he ever played the guitar. I know it wasn’t real but as a guitarist myself he didn’t even fake it well as far as I’m concerned.
It’s funny because I’ve been watching some Everly Brothers videos on here and someone said something about James Best resembling them. I googled them and found out that James is related to them so that was weird!!
Sometimes at the local watering hole they're playing Andy on the TV with the sound muted but close captioned. It's still funny as heck, because we've heard every line of dialog many times before.
I love that they all had instruments in their cell and didn't try to drown out the guy on acoustic(electric rhythm/lead) guitar. Lol. It eas a good show though. I have a friend from Mt Airy NC. I believe that's the town Mayberry was based on. Beautiful part of the state.
Y’all, I just started watching this show with Mama this year (2021) and I’m 23 years old. So far this has been my favorite scene! I love these old shows!
It's amazing that that show is still being aired on television I guess around 60 years since it was first shown. It was some very very good television.
... Which is why it is still being aired today. Hopefully, shows like Andy Griffith will be showing in 100 years from now. Keeping the classics alive gives newer generations a glimpse into history, first hand.
When times were the best and tv was Andy And Barney. Thank goodness we still have reruns. I still watch when i find them.so many good shows. Thanks for the memories.
Love the way that cat turns one acoustic archtop into two solid body electrics! But the music sure rocks!! Love this episode. Back when TV was righteous.
That’s the guitar playing of the great Herb Ellis. I took a lesson from Herb once, and he told me all about it., he said they had a Fender Twin amp and Telecaster there for him and they had a great deli table for when the filming was over.
Wrong! Barney Kessel, a guitarist for the Wrecking Crew, played the guitar on this episode. Best could play guitar, but he wasn't a professional musician by any means.
Lol!! I tell you what? This scene never gets old watching. I mean Barney is just to hilarious in the way he was getting dwn. And yep!! You are absolutely right about that, that they just don't make good shows anymore. I mean, I grew up watching the Carol Brunette show, Laugh in, The Andy Griffith show, so many others. And to watch Tim Conway try and make Harvey laugh, and Carol, is, and always will be priceless. I'm so glad we have a way to watch them on DVD'S now.
Nobody could have imagined that James Best would star in The Dukes of Hazard beginning in 1979. His portrayal of Roscoe P. Coltrane absolutely made the show worth watching....not to take anything away from Daisy or Uncle Jesse.
This guy was incredible! I don't know how many times I've watched this video of James playing rock'n'roll guitar. I can't get enough of it. Tremendous talent.
Barney Kessel, a guitarist for the Wrecking Crew, played the guitar on this episode. Best could play guitar, but he wasn't a professional musician by any means.
Amazing how that acoustic guitar sounds like a plugged in electric guitar, and he can play 2 parts at the same time...even though his fingering is way off! I can also hear a bass and drums, but I don't see them...still very enjoyable! It's Rosco from the "Dukes of Hazzed" before he got fat and bald. I remember seeing this as youngster, and the times showing Jim Lindsey(James Best) playing a Fender Jazzmaster, which became my favorite model of guitar. James was in many western movies and he starred in the wacked out movie "The Killer Shrews".
I'm about 2 months shy of 50 years and grew up watching reruns of Andy Griffith. My favorite way to spend an hour in the late 70s-mid 80's on a Friday night was watching Dukes of Hazzard. Look how young Roscoe is! I don't remember this episode but I knew it was James Best as soon as I heard his voice. Daisy is still my first love...the REAL Daisy (Catherine Bach)...not that wanna be Jessica Simpson!

R.I.P. JAMES BEST
I'VE JUST GOT DONE WATCHING JAMES
IN A WESTERN MOVIE WITH.
JAMES STEWART & HARRY MORGAN
He also played on the Dukes Of Hazzard as Roscoe p coletrain
He sure didn’t look like he ever played the guitar. I know it wasn’t real but as a guitarist myself he didn’t even fake it well as far as I’m concerned.
James Best was also a main star in a horror film call The Killer Shrews.
It’s funny because I’ve been watching some Everly Brothers videos on here and someone said something about James Best resembling them. I googled them and found out that James is related to them so that was weird!!
I love how everyone in their cell just happenEd to have the respective instruments available.
Awesomeness I
Lol right🤣
I've seen every episode multiple times but still always seem to stop when running through the channels.....Great Television that still holds up today.
The Barney dance...he was shmooosin
By no
James was at his best, on the twilight zone. The episode was "The Grave" hell that was one of the best episodes ever. R.I.P. James Best.
That episode gives me the chills.
And the episode Jesse Belle to a great one also
It's amazing that that show is still being aired on television I guess around 60 years since it was first shown. It was some very very good television.
... Which is why it is still being aired today. Hopefully, shows like Andy Griffith will be showing in 100 years from now. Keeping the classics alive gives newer generations a glimpse into history, first hand.
I’m 70 and still love this
When times were the best and tv was Andy And Barney. Thank goodness we still have reruns. I still watch when i find them.so many good shows. Thanks for the memories.
Hello Virginia, How are you doing?
For an honest sheriff, Andy was sneaky as hell.
I guess that's where Roscoe learned it from
!!LOL
andy was a master manipulator for sure!
@@ryanbarker5217 but he prob meant well
Honest people are usually the most sneaky
Every episode of this show is a classic.
Love the way that cat turns one acoustic archtop into two solid body electrics! But the music sure rocks!! Love this episode. Back when TV was righteous.
@Mowac First guitar I ever played, was my older brother's '58 or '59 electrified Harmony archtop. I'm gone!
I could never get tired of this video.
Barney's dance is GOLD!
"Deepest condolences to families and friends of all our legends actors and actresses!"
Hello Mary, How are you doing?
That’s the guitar playing of the great Herb Ellis. I took a lesson from Herb once, and he told me all about it., he said they had a Fender Twin amp and Telecaster there for him and they had a great deli table for when the filming was over.
James Best couldn't play, but lied to the producers and said that he could...and with the Everly Brothers being his first cousins, they believed him.
Wrong! Barney Kessel, a guitarist for the Wrecking Crew, played the guitar on this episode. Best could play guitar, but he wasn't a professional musician by any means.
@@r.p.mcmurphy6623Are you sure about that?
As I remember seeing Herb Ellis's name in the credits at the end of the show.
Did you here that snare drum at the end, amazing how you can get that sound from a drumstick hitting metal bars!
I love the way they cover up the name Gibson with black tape on Jim's Guitar
Nobody could have imagined that James Best would star in The Dukes of Hazard beginning in 1979. His portrayal of Roscoe P. Coltrane absolutely made the show worth watching....not to take anything away from Daisy or Uncle Jesse.
Yeah let’s not take ANYTHING away from Daisy.
Or boss ✌️🖖😅😅
Jimmy Best was so funny in his episode
Yes, Denver Pyle, was a great character actor too. Loved him on Gunsmoke and Grizzly Adams.
Or Bo...
This guy was incredible! I don't know how many times I've watched this video of James playing rock'n'roll guitar. I can't get enough of it. Tremendous talent.
You know that's not really him right
@@Quint1836 Sad but true but whoever the real guitarist is he's pretty darn good!
@@kentshelton3451 oh yeah!! Amazing guitarist
Barney Kessel, a guitarist for the Wrecking Crew, played the guitar on this episode. Best could play guitar, but he wasn't a professional musician by any means.
Herb Ellis played the guitar part. His name is at the end of the show credits.
“That cuts me....deep” lol
That was hilarious😅
Amazing how that acoustic guitar sounds like a plugged in electric guitar, and he can play 2 parts at the same time...even though his fingering is way off! I can also hear a bass and drums, but I don't see them...still very enjoyable! It's Rosco from the "Dukes of Hazzed" before he got fat and bald. I remember seeing this as youngster, and the times showing Jim Lindsey(James Best) playing a Fender Jazzmaster, which became my favorite model of guitar. James was in many western movies and he starred in the wacked out movie "The Killer Shrews".
I love this show....
Mike I hope so because Jessica is a bit young for you. LoL
I'm older than him and I'd still hit either one.
James Best was good in everything he did or played. RIP James Best.
Kudos for putting actual music on this show. Back when talent meant something.
Loved this episode👏👏👏👍🙋♀️ Guitar playing, Andy's famous smile😍 and most of all Barney dancing😆🤣😂😄👌
I remember when he came back to Mayberry after he has a falling out with the band. He plays a jazzmaster or a jaguar. As a kid I loved it!
R I P Mr. Best one of the great character actors.
Electric acoustic guitar lol
