But i think this is a combination of an insane man with insane skills, and all of the stars aligning for the most insane luck of probably any run of any game period. Jerv had to sacrifice A LOT of time over the last month to get this done. I love that his wife and son celebrated with him because it probably wasn’t easy having him spend all that time bringing home the bounty.
I love how even with a big chunk of prize money on the line, what provided a critical breakthrough was players coming together to try and help the best of them have the best chance possible of winning. This collaboration of finding tips and tricks for the entire community was what really defined Halo from the outset, way back in the earlier era of the internet, and that spirit carries over to this day.
Jervalin himself said that the Gravemind prison skip was discovered the day before and it was implemented for the first time on that run. It took that plus the crazy hard High Charity skip and he nailed both first try of the day.
As someone who’s normal Legendary Run was ended by gravemind over a year ago. I might have to stick to the grind cause this story reminded me of how Legendary Halo 2 is. It’s always been my favorite game
I've done the OG halo trilogy on legendary pretty often (LASO only once) and yes halo 2 made me lose 10 years on my life, I can't even comprehend trying to do it deathless
Legendary is not fun, i can’t imagine spending days in hours attempting this LASO run deathless. I bet if he didn’t have the streamer and family support etc he would’ve been much more miserable. Legend though, and don’t get me wrong it’s still a legendary game💯
You should get back on it it’s extremely rewarding to finish the campaign in legendary especially when you get to watch the secret cutscene that usually you can only find on UA-cam
I watched this stream live. This stream was different from the beginning, Jervalin had an entirely different air about him. The whole day felt different, the feeling of "this is the day, this is the run" was palpable. Previous attempts at Gravemind had all been nerve racking, stressful, but this day, this stream? He went into Gravemind with joy; his demeanor calm, cool, collected. The new prison skip tech was a breath of life into hope. He even had a scuffed entry into the prison lift room, but the tech was so simple, SO consistent, that it didn't matter. Jervalin's skills were beyond perfection, Jervalin merely needed it to be possible. With Jervalin, 'possible' was more akin to 'probable'. The whole stream was amazing to watch and be a small part of.
I'm not a Halo fan, but this challenge has been one of the most intriguing things in video game challenge runs I've ever had seen. Absolutely fascinating how this went from a simple competition of "who can do it first?" to "can it even be done?" and seeing the community rally together to prove it possible is a true testament to human ingenuity and endurance.
The dog jumping on him is exactly what my Siberian husky would do to me too when i'm in the middle of something like sea of thieves, dark souls or monster hunter. But congrats on him making challenge history and even getting recognition from bungie for clearing that challange.

In case if anyone doesn’t understand: A chair is a type of seat, typically designed for one person and consisting of one or more legs, a flat or slightly angled seat and a back-rest. They may be made of wood, metal, or synthetic materials, and may be padded or upholstered in various colors and fabrics. Chairs vary in design. An armchair has armrests fixed to the seat; a recliner is upholstered and features a mechanism that lowers the chair's back and raises into place a footrest; a rocking chair has legs fixed to two long curved slats; and a wheelchair has wheels fixed to an axis under the seat. Chairs can be made from wood, metal, or other strong materials, like stone or acrylic. In some cases, multiple materials are used to construct a chair; for example, the legs and frame may be made from metal and the seat and back may be made from plastic. Chairs may have hard surfaces of wood, metal, plastic, or other materials, or some or all of these hard surfaces may be covered with upholstery or padding. The design may be made of porous materials, or be drilled with holes for decoration; a low back or gaps can provide ventilation. The back may extend above the height of the occupant's head, which can optionally contain a headrest. Chairs can also be made from more creative materials, such as recycled materials like cutlery and wooden play bricks, pencils, plumbing tubes, rope, corrugated cardboard, and PVC pipe. In rare cases, chairs are made out of unusual materials, especially as a form of art or experimentation. Raimonds Cirulis, a Latvian interior designer, created a volcanic hanging chair that is handmade out of volcanic rock.Peter Brenner, a Dutch-born German designer, has created a chair made from lollipop sugar - 60 pounds (27 kg) of confectioners' sugar. Ergonomic design distributes the weight of the occupant to various parts of the body. This is done by having an easily adjustable seat height. A seat that is higher results in dangling feet and increased pressure on the underside of the knees ("popliteal fold"). It may also result in no weight on the feet which means more weight elsewhere. A lower seat may shift too much weight to the "seat bones" ("ischial tuberosities"). Gas springs are attached to the body of the chair in order to give height adjustment and more comfort to the user. Some chairs have foot rests. Around 15% of women and 2% of men need foot rests, even at the 16-inch (41 cm) chair height. A stool or other simple chair may have a simple straight or curved bar near the bottom for the sitter to place their feet on. Actual chair dimensions are determined by measurements of the human body or anthropometric measurements. The two most relevant anthropometric measurement for chair design is the popliteal height and buttock popliteal length. For someone seated, the popliteal height is the distance from the underside of the foot to the underside of the thigh at the knees. It is sometimes called the "stool height". The term "sitting height" is reserved for the height to the top of the head when seated. For American men, the median popliteal height is 16.3 inches (41 cm) and for American women it is 15.0 inches (38 cm).The popliteal height, after adjusting for heels, clothing and other issues, is used to determine the height of the chair seat. Mass-produced chairs are typically 17 inches (43 cm) high.Researchers such as Mary Blade and Galen Cranz found that sitting on the edge of a high stool with feet on the floor is less harmful for the lower back than sitting up straight on a conventional chair.
Thank you so much for this video and the other one you made, if it were not for you making this video I would have never have know about this Halo 2 Deathless LASO Challenge to start with. This game was my childhood like it was for many more people, so again thank you.
I know a lot of videos about this achievement have been made, but damn rocket sloth, you knocked this one out of the park. A great summary with lots of explanation and hype music. Very well put together, deffo one of my favourite videos on this channel when it comes to the halo community itself :)
11:02. says the MCC version runs at "60 hertz per second". Hertz already means "Per Second", so basically he said MCC runs at 60 ticks/second/second (60 times per second in each second). that would mean the speed at which the game runs would increase exponentially, instead of at 60hz constantly.
What an awesome experience for him!!! I'm glad it happened to someone without much recognition, well that's all changed now!!! Good for you mate, well deserved and so happy for him and his supportive family! I never thought watching someone play a game would bring joy to myself!! Way to go!! We witness a legend in the making!!
Be ready for that to happen *a lot*. Halo 2 is my last Legendary run in MCC, and I've died an insane amount of times. It's extremely frustrating, but worth it if you can pull it off.
This was very well presented. I actually watched all the way through... his kid's reaction and his wife was what really made this special for me... Quite a ride...
11:15 Hz already means “per second” unless I’m mistaken, MCC would run at 60hz (60 ticks per second), not 60hz per second (3600 ticks per second). I know it’s pedantic I’m sorry. It’s just a little technicality. Not a huge deal. Great vids on the challenge 💕
I've been saying throughout this challenge that this challenge was like OG Ninja Warrior. Mission 1 was like Stage 1 where it removes all those who are mainly playing for lolz, missions 2 - 9 is like stage 2 where it puts those who are actually trying to the real test, missions 10 - 12 is stage 3 where the challenge hits overdrive and you need to master all your senses and abilities where 1 mistake may cost you everything in the blink of an eye, and mission 13 is stage 4 which is the home stretch mastering tricky scenarios and a boss battle that is deceivingly difficult.
0:53 is the greatest thing I've seen all week, I NEED that image of the level select menu with the elusive and often forgotten levels of Castle Reserve and Interpreter
This is amazing. At the end, for the next challenge, I was expecting to hear Halo 2 LASO deathless glitchless. I personally find the run with the glitches more interesting, but I know these glitches are used to skip difficult sections. Of course the glitches themselves are hard to pull off, but there is still a lot more that has yet to be done. Looking forward to it.
Speaking as someone who hasn't watched Halo speed-runs and records until this challenge, it's honestly been the most exciting Halo related things I can remember since the golden days. I'm sad it's over, but will definitely follow JerValiN as he goes for other records now.
My favorite part of this was getting to see the old halo community coming back together for it. That and watching someone do something I genuinely thought impossible.
Honestly the fact that the challenge was beaten is not even the best part of this, the absolute frenzy of activity, cooperation and just good old fashioned fun that was on display in the community was honestly great, and I say this as an outsider, I had not watched much of any Halo 2 content before this challenge, but all of a sudden, everywhere I turned someone was trying this challenge and everyone was cheering them on, it was fucking great. I had a blast even though I did nothing more than observe.
It's hilarious at 4:03 that Jervalin dies to the brutes on Gravemind, throws his controller down, and then Cortana says "the faster you can kill those brutes the better." It's like she was trolling him.
So the next challenge has to be a total annihilation. No level skips, sword flying, physics bypassing. Just every single Covenant at every section of every level is killed without the Master Chief dying.
i've been playing this game since release day. It has and will remain my personal favorite Halo game. this was incredibly satisfying to watch. Thank you Rocket Sloth
I happened to finish what I was doing and tuned in on the flood gondola, and I got to watch gravemind onwards. The fact that I got to watch live was so amazing, and only a handful of people can say they watched history in the making live like that!
Wait so the winning run was the one where the high charity skip was first done in practice but also the first time the prison skip had been accomplished? He managed to pull off both first try in the same run? what a blessed run

Loved seeing everyones reactions they are priceless
Man this whole challenge was great! Hell, seeing his family cheer him on like that actually made me teary eyed.
The wife celebration was wholesome as hell
Thank you so much for this video and the other one you made, if it were not for you making this video I would have never have know about this Halo 2 Deathless LASO Challenge to start with. This game was my childhood like it was for many more people, so again thank you.
their reactions are so wholesome good for him and his family :)
I wonder how badly the game would break down if you made a mod like that lol
"Can you beat Halo 2 if the tickrate increases by 60 every second."
it wouldn't be exponentially, but yeah
What an awesome experience for him!!! I'm glad it happened to someone without much recognition, well that's all changed now!!! Good for you mate, well deserved and so happy for him and his supportive family! I never thought watching someone play a game would bring joy to myself!! Way to go!! We witness a legend in the making!!
I attempted halo 2 Legendary and died almost as soon as the first encounter began
Be ready for that to happen *a lot*. Halo 2 is my last Legendary run in MCC, and I've died an insane amount of times. It's extremely frustrating, but worth it if you can pull it off.
...Doctor Halsey appears to Jervalin with an offer.
This is the greatest moment in Halo history. Congrats Jervalin. He truly is a halo legend
Nerd
That's not how that works
Main point is yes but 60Hz/sec would be a unit of acceleration - (ticks per second) per second
60 hz = 60 FPS. Frames per second. Original xbox and 360 both ran at 30 hz or 30 frames per second max.
this was probably one of the most interesting and entertaining youtube videos i've watched in a while
I've been saying throughout this challenge that this challenge was like OG Ninja Warrior. Mission 1 was like Stage 1 where it removes all those who are mainly playing for lolz, missions 2 - 9 is like stage 2 where it puts those who are actually trying to the real test, missions 10 - 12 is stage 3 where the challenge hits overdrive and you need to master all your senses and abilities where 1 mistake may cost you everything in the blink of an eye, and mission 13 is stage 4 which is the home stretch mastering tricky scenarios and a boss battle that is deceivingly difficult.
watching this after having watched the replay of his entire run, a lot of things make a lot more sense. An awesome summary video
His wife's reaction is so priceless
watching it live was so sick. seeing his family there celebrating almost made me tear up
I wasn't expecting to cry while watching this but when he did it and his family was there. It just got me. What sucks is I'm at work.
That shit got me emotional too. Very wholesome.
Seeing how supportive and loving his wife is warmed my heart. It was adorable.
0:53 is the greatest thing I've seen all week, I NEED that image of the level select menu with the elusive and often forgotten levels of Castle Reserve and Interpreter

HOW TO DO IT
Deberias poner subtitulos, es una ocasion especial 😢
This is amazing. At the end, for the next challenge, I was expecting to hear Halo 2 LASO deathless glitchless. I personally find the run with the glitches more interesting, but I know these glitches are used to skip difficult sections. Of course the glitches themselves are hard to pull off, but there is still a lot more that has yet to be done. Looking forward to it.
And I can’t even beat it on regular legendary
Lol I did my second playthrough on legendary as a kid, and have no idea how I had the patience to actually beat it like that.
Speaking as someone who hasn't watched Halo speed-runs and records until this challenge, it's honestly been the most exciting Halo related things I can remember since the golden days. I'm sad it's over, but will definitely follow JerValiN as he goes for other records now.
Finally
My favorite part of this was getting to see the old halo community coming back together for it. That and watching someone do something I genuinely thought impossible.
Historical achievement, I want this taught in schools
Wow, That was insane. Man seeing how much saves he had on his final run and just how intense it was by just watching. Good Job Jervalin
I got to see Jervalin pull this off live. Was a good day.
Jervalin's streams were so great to watch. Gonna keep watching him even more.
The man made history. Their celebration got me tearing. Bravo!
18:43 onward.
So basically skip half the game? I guess this feat is impossible.
i've been playing this game since release day.
I'm sure Jervalin and his wife celebrated wildly that day
Was so sick seeing this live
Truly Jervalin *IS* the Master Chief
And everybody who was his major Rivals in this LASO Challenge were his Personal Squad mates and Fellow Spartans.
Charlie was right when he said this was like a biblical challenge, "...40 days and 40 nights..."
I love it when speedrunners get celebrating family members. It's so heartwarming.
"If anyone could do it, it would have to be Jervalin."- Rocket Sloth
"OH! OH! Oh!" - Jervalin being play attacked by his dog.
Best editing ever.
This game was my childhood. I could feel how tense the tense parts were. Amazing!
Some would say that Jervalin
Finished the Fight
Love the channel guys. Glad to see you guys with so many subs now! GG
The shotgun brute at the end of the run nearly ruining everything had my heart racing
