  • This seems to be a major problem with the concours zg1000 gtr bikes. Nobody seems to know where the leak comes from, but you do now....

Thanks a bunch for this. I've got a 99 and your video was the first result for "concours oil leak" and its exactly what I'm seeing. Cheers!

The air bleeder is located under the gas tank over the carburetors on the right side of the frame on the thermostat housing. It looks like a brake bleeder. Torque spec is
    7.8 N-m(0.80 kg-m, 69 in-lb).
    Thanks for the excellent video!

Excellent job explaining everything and great job on converting it to a naked. I wouldn't do it to mine because I hate the wind 😂 but yours looks very nice.

Thanks for the video, it’s always good to view some videos where others have fixed similar issues. Great job on removing the side fairing pieces that are just no fun removing for maintenance problems. It makes the Connie look way better IMO. Still, you might consider consulting a Clymers manual prior to beginning a fix on your mc. Water pumps still available at Murph’s kits out of Kentucky, as good a price I’ve found elsewhere online. It is an unfortunate fact of today’s life that old MCs don’t have all parts available anymore. EBay may supply some (nos) & used parts, but I don’t like using old parts unless there is nothing else. I have a Bevel Gear case leak, and I’m afraid the only solid fix is pulling the Bevel gear drive off🙏. Looking through my Clymers manual, there is a lot that has to come off to pull the bevel gear case… rear caliper, rear tire, shock, swing arm, drive shaft, clutch slave cylinder, and I believe water pump also. Of course, oil & coolant need draining. Yap, this is no quick fix… . Thanks for the video, I appreciate the Birds Eye view. 👍😎, which really helps me to see what things look like prior to doing the work myself.

I used to think the Concours was such an ugly bike. Actually, I still do but I now appreciate how good of a bike it is. lol

I'm about to attempt this job on my '99 and I would like to advise some future viewers that the coolant *can* in fact mix with the oil if the o-ring fails in a particular way. I was wondering why my oil level was mysteriously rising after a change. Thought it was just a small oil leak and was going to ignore it until winter but the lift in the garage is empty now anyway...

Yes I just got a zg1000 with this exact issue first tjing I'll be checking on first start tomorrow sounds exactly like the problem which caused him to give up after replacing a conrod post hydraulic lock then hitting the mystery oil leak, so Thank you!
