    Sometimes it’s OK to push the budget. My parents both died before retirement. All the sacrifice for maybe someday that never came. Take the vacation occasionally. Buy the splurge within reason. You are not guaranteed tomorrow.

      I know quite a few people that have been tight to save for retirement to do things etc and they don’t make retirement x

      I spend money to buy something that I would enjoy maybe a book from the Dave Ramsey list or a new product on Amazon Smile that I'd like...or would gift to a homeless person ($10 visa card because a lot of places require at least a $5 purchase)

      Maybe they saved for you? As an older lady, if I don’t make it to some fantastical, mythical “retirement” in my head, knowing my kids lives will be better for all the sacrifice is just as, if not more, comforting. So, maybe not be so, so sad about this aspect of passing earlier than “expected,” ya know??

    • @teresanorris4769
      @teresanorris4769 2 роки тому

      @@CAGChannel1 I would never have wanted them to save for me. The money was set aside for retirement so I never thought about it being for anything but that.

      @@teresanorris4769 not save but make your or grandkids’ lives better. Anyway, that thought works for me even if I perish “younger.” Just saying, don’t underestimate that comforting thought for older people, that’s all. For me anyway, but, from the conversations I’ve had with same age and even older peers, I don’t think my thoughts are rare.

    We planned to have a cheap summer with our toddler. We go on long family walks to forest preserves in our area on weekends. We go to the library twice a month. I make it a priority to go to the park or splash pad every day that the weather permits. These are all the free things we do. I also decided to purchase a zoo membership for the year for $110. That includes parking and our entrance fee plus 2 additional tickets and we received an additional 10 guest passes and 6 attraction tickets. We live 15 minutes away from the zoo. So far we've used the membership on 11 entrances and that makes each ticket thus far for $10 a piece. It's these little things that make debt pay off manageable.

    Hey lady, Thanks for posting this today. We have been in a major slump lately trying to get back into the groove of the budget. It has been a nightmare due to the extra going out for gas food, electric, so on. Everyone is struggling where we’re at, and this is such an encouragement to hear today. "I don't have enough money to budget" -- that's exactly when i started budgeting - because my bank account kept going so close to zero that i had to know exactly what was coming out when so i didn't go into overdraft. That was in 2009 and i've done a budget every month since except for 3 or 4 months when i just didn't feel like it. Burnout is real, but is just temporary. Don't let it make you give up permanently just because you're not in the mood right now.

    I’m one of those “not let my money touch”. I tried cash sinking funds then something shiny would show up. Saying no to hubs and kiddos is painful for me. Kids are learning to earn though. I struggle with squirrel-ling away. I pay all our bills yet it is close to zero by next paycheck. I am very blessed all our needs are met. How do others save….

  • @2Beldam

    Definitely have budget burnout. Thought I’d be further along paying down debt but we had 3 big unexpected expenses come up that gobbled up all the extra money we saved to pay off the credit card (had to pay $1300 in land taxes, $2600 for termite treatment, & $600 for plumbing fixes. We also have to repair our cars interior & our washing machine broke so god only knows what’s that going to be). We paused paying down debt this month. Just paid minimum payments and took $150 out of savings for “date nights” at home (rented movies that were in the theaters, bought new video games or board games to play together, signed up with a new subscription service to binge watch tv together etc). It was a good decision. Real mood boost. In September we’ll go back to trying to pay down the credit card debt 👍

      Grace, give yourself grace. I was smacked in the face with this lesson by a birth diagnosis of chromosome triplications for my girls. Unexpected expenses ( first OHS at two months, etc). expenses doesn’t even begin to describe it. One step at a time, one day at a time. Life has a way of teaching us this lesson over and over and over……….

    We take trips while saving our money. We do camp and that’s a cheaper way to travel. There are lots of things to do for free or little money. Our date nights are a walk and at the time when hot fudge sundaes we’re 1.00 at McDonald’s that was a win win for us.

    Ms. Senn, You can use me as an example. In 2008 all I had was $900 a month in alimony, and yes, budgeting was an absolute must. I could not rent, because my former husband spent us into bankruptcy and now, as a divorcee, my credit score was in the toilet. I was on a mattress on the floor in my daughter's home, the truck that I was going to live in was totaled in an accident. Ya, I had two waitress jobs but with the downturn of the oil industry, CO, I was laid off. It was so bad!

    Thank you so much for the good ideas. My husband gets paid once a month. We moved about 2 years ago and took a pay cut to move somewhere with a lower cost of living. From Las Vegas to South Carolina. It’s been tricky to figure out our new normal as far as expenses. I have been doing sinking funds for several years but now I think I’m over complicating it and it’s taking me longer to figure out what I’m actually spending cause I have to keep moving money from one sinking fund to another. I’m excited for the tail end of the month when my husband gets paid, I hurry up and pay most everything and put money in savings and pay debt down, but then man does the month feel sooooo looooong! Hahaha def need to add more fun money here and there. We have 5 kids 13 and under. It’s a balancing act or more like a juggling act! 🤹‍♀️
