    before pulling out the old cable, tie a string around the original wire and when you pull it out, you can connect the string and pull the new line back through.

    Dealership left me on hold for over a month. Paid for camera and never got a call back to service. I'm picking up today and installing myself thanks to this!

    I just bought a used 2017 Silverado, back up camera was foggy and I felt it should be a fix I can do. Found your video and exactly what I needed!!!

    Thanks for the information! I had already ordered this exact camera before seeing this video. I really appreciate you mentioning the Torx size in the video, saved me from putzing around.

    I just installed a new backup camera. Your video really came in handy for me. It took me 1.5 hours to install. I had trouble trying to unplug the backup camera harness underneath the bumper. My truck is freshly undercoated and it was a real mess. Dropping the spare tire gave me that extra clearance. I didn't have any wire to fish the the new camera wiring through so I used 2 24" zip ties and fished the wire through. Luckily my wife was able to give me a hand fishing the wire through. The backup camera is night and day difference. I did notice it is a little distorted when the sun is reflecting off of some objects. But overall it works great. Thanks again for your step by step video.

    Great video, thanks! I completed the install just as you showed, went smoothly and the new camera works far better than the old cloudy one.

    Suggestion!!!! Move or remove the spare tire before you start. It will make your work and visibility underneath much easier.

    Great video I wish they had an update camera that you could switch on while driving for lane changes.

    Great video, easy install. Purchased similar camera off Amazon for 50$. Took 30 min to install. Taped string to old harness before pulling it out. Dropped spare tire for more room to work. Thanks for the video!

    Wear eye protection for this job. Struggling with this now, my connector near the tire doesn't have a red tab and I'm not sure how to get it off. May have to drop spare tire.

    Will the guidance lines still work the same as with the factory camera? Meaning when you turn the wheel, the guidance lines move accordingly?

    • @byammine
      @byammine 3 роки тому +2

      The ones placed by the truck will. The ones placed by the camera won’t. I would double check their width accuracy in case of the new camera has a different aspect ratio

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  2 роки тому +3

      Yes, the dynamic guidelines still work as those are produced by the radio, not by the camera.

      Pull the red tab out, stick a small flathead in the opposite end of that channel where the tab keeps the two pieces together. It's a real PITA.

    The camera on my '17 Sierra is looking like the "before" image in this video. Almost useless at night. However, my wife's '24 Trax looks like 4k Ultra in comparison. I think the difference might be the newer software and interior screen. So, I'm not sure if changing the camera is worth the time and expense without also upgrading the software/screen as well. Any ideas on how to do that?

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  Рік тому

      OEM screen can also be somewhat of the blame. I know some will replace the OEM camera (like we did), and also replace the OEM head unit with something aftermarket and it's a night and day difference.

      I wondered as well. Although, I think that there was a monitor and electronics upgrade in the 2016 and newer GMC trucks. Also I’m not sure if the plugs are the same.

    It isn't actually an HD image - the screen itself can't do HD according to my research - but it does remove the dirt/scratches causing the clouding on the old one. The question will be...how to protect the lens on the new one? I would like to see some camera lens protectors that you could put on and remove every couple of months to keep the lens protected!

  • @davidbone6422

    How does this look at night compared to the OEM camera? Mine has recently looked grainier than usual at night, but it's not cloudy during the day. I have a 2016 Sierra with the powered lock tailgate, so this is the exact camera replacement I'm looking for. No doubt it provides a better and wider image, but all I've seen are videos/pics of it during the day. Looking for feedback on night clarity. Thanks!

      You have the same problem I have on my sierra/dealer says it's normal and I don''t agree b/c 3 other trucks in my family look fine at night so I'm gonna buy this cam and put it in/ hope it does the trick

    • @whiteout130

      Did you find an answer to how it looks at night?

    • @davidbone6422
      @davidbone6422 2 роки тому

      @@whiteout130 Unfortunately nothing definitive. Found one comment buried somewhere for a different branded camera (but it claims to have the wider viewing angle so I think they are the same) and they said it was not an improvement over the factory camera for night viewing. Since my camera is still fine during the day, I'm not in a rush to replace it and find out if this one is better at night. Let me know if you get one though and what you think of the night clarity.

      After I replaced my camera yesterday, I went out last night and backed down my driveway in the dark. I found the picture well lit and could back around a corner really easily. This camera is 20x better than the stock one in a 2018 GMC Denali. The dealer kissed me off numerous times; they are going to be embarrassed when I show them what we did without their help!

      What about the turn assist lines do they curve as you’re steering just like in the OEM camera? And I’m only asking bc I’ve seen other cars that don’t and I find it very helpful that GM does that for its vehicles.
