The 250 rating is 93 octane with no dilution. I doubt they ran 2-3 tanks of 93 through it before the test, meaning it was def down on power. R&T and other outlets tested the 21/22 Turbo 3's with undiluted 93 and it ran consistent 5.9-6.1 sec 0-60's. We also don't know the elevation here. 7 secs is what the N/A 19-23 Mazda 3's run.
I own a 2020, white pearl ilx premium. It is a fun little car. The dct is quick and the engine is quite peppy in sport. It has been replaced by the 1.5l turbo with a cvt or manual.
NGL, the only reason to buy an ILX in its 9th year of production is for its reliability, not for drag racing. The Mazda should win this by a very large margin, possibly the biggest in your channel's history. EDIT: I was wrong, that was a lot closer than it should've been. Mazda should be so embarrassed.
Lol you obviously have never driven an ILX. It is a very quick car and 0-60 times are very similar compared to the mazda. The only way the mazda will win by a large margin is if the ILX spins. That 6 speed transmission in that mazda is extremely slow to shift by the time it shifts that DCT prolly shifted twice already.
@@ilx_ben3680 I've driven the ILX 2.4. The DCT is very quick, and that 2.4L VTEC sounds great, I'll give you that much, ILX_Ben, but 0-60 it's about a second slower. I expect the Mazda to win by at least 5 car lengths.

I’m a 2019 ILX owner and I give the Mazda 3 every win of this race (normal/sport/rolling), but in sport mode I think the ILX will tail the Mazda 3 closer than expected 🧐 The 0-60 of ILX is around 6.2 - 6.6 seconds by the way! Edit : I’m very impressed by the performance of the ILX! Didn’t give much ground to the Mazda 3 despite huge HP and torque disadvantage! ILX is really an underdog ✌🏼
Lol did you watch the 0-60 ; 1/4 mile runs with dragy at the end? Yes, it is hot (86F) but you won’t go from 8 secs to 6.2 secs .. Stock ILX in good temps, DA , etc, will range in the 6.7-7.2 sec I’m pretty sure the Mazda 3 here is not on premium fuel (not a Mazda owner nor a fan so not trying to “defend it”) but even though it’s hot, it should be able to do 6.6-6.7 sec..I’m guessing both cars are just a little heat soaked. @@eucmike it all depends on elevation and many other factors my Q50 red sports it’s a 4.5 sec car and were I live due to the high elevation the best I gotten so far is 5.3

The K24 in that Acura only needs some minor N/A mods, and it would smoke the bigger 2.5 turbo mazda. People don't understand how insane the K24 is. I'd go Acura all the way.

Good now we can see acceleration measures by Dragy. Also it shows how dry acceleration numbers don’t mean it will be same on road. Dragy showed big difference in numbers between cars but on road they were almost same🤔

The new intro and editing is great . I think it’s better when it’s more subtle , I can definitely see myself rewatching the intro without skipping . The other one was getting a little old .
The ILX could have done better. All I've done to mine is put a drop in K&N filter and I've raced cars that had more power and won easily. For example volkswagen GTI's WRXs V6 acura TLs RDX with 2.0T. I shift the gears myself in S mode. I didn't really see that with this driver.
Definitely the best comment on here bc from my experience with the ilx is that it takes down plenty of cars with more power & the general 0-60 rating of 6.6 might vary bc I usually achieve low 6 seconds times.
for anyone shaming the Mazda 3 for “poor performance”, keep in mind the ILX has a Dual Clutch Transmission and an 8 Speed Automatic, that’s why it was able to keep up with the Mazda 3. Mazda 3 doesn’t have poor performance, it just has an outdated transmission.
With update trany will be even better but even with the old trany it is poor on accelration because zero spin with 310 vs180 lbs torque i expect more and from a roll the ilx just a tik slower

The ILX was not running on premium fuel, plus it had after market wheels and still preformed that well. Its a crazy simple, weird beast of a vehicle to me. Love the ILX, bought one and dang love it for a commuter, everyday car. Change the oil and transmission fluid normally and it will go forever, so scary simplistic to me with that NA K engine and 8speed DCT.
The ILX has a beautiful sounding engine and takes off like a dream (when it doesnt jerk) but just like the Chevy Cruz feeling fast does not equal fast... Its perfect for city driving though and is super nimble around curves! Very fund to drive!
You still don't know how to use this 2.5T engine. First, put on 91 octane at least, using for 2-3 times full tank to let the ECU knows the change, and you HAVE TO use manual shifter to get a later RPM shift point. As a AWD, you have to launch start and build the turbo boost at the same time. By the way, I am live in Ontario, I don't mind to teach you how to drive this car.
What is the elevation of this drag strip? Elevation can greatly effect 1/4 times. There is a simple equation to adjust the time back to sea level. Density altitude. (DA). There is nothing wrong with these dragy times. These are so many variables at play. Altitude, air temp, humidity, wind direction and speed, driver skill. Most magazines times are done at sea level or DA adjusted to sea level and with the most optimal weather conditions.
After owning a 3 turbo hatch for about 6 months I can point out a couple of things that I noticed about the vid: First, I can tell that the Mazda is not running 93 octane to get the full 250hp. Second: the 3 is awd. Do a brake launch. Hold it to about 2000rpm and do a propper launch. 7 seconds to 60mph is way off from what myself and others are getting. Should be about 5.6-5.8 to 60mph easy.
New intro is cool! The draggy runs are awesome now we can actually see their time for the 1/4 mile which is a huge things for the car guys. Keep them coming 👍🏽
It sounded like the ILX was brake-torquing the launch but it didn’t sound that way in the Mazda. You would think the Mazda would always be out front in the beginning with all that torque.
2 factors in this race, first is that I'm sure Sam did not do brake boost which on a regular automatic you can do. Second is it looks like regular and not 93 octane gas was used for the race based on the draggy times for the Mazda as it does low 6's on Premium gas.
Take one curve or corner and you will instantly know where the extra money goes in the Acura. They handle like a dream. How many early 2000's mazdas do you see driving around (maybe a miata but no proteges)? How many old TLs and CL's do you see driving around? Acuras last.
I dunno, that's really the majority I see around my area in Seattle is older Mazda 3s and protege5s, Acuras are usually down with check engine lights in a rich guys front yard

Much improved! Intro is more subtle, which I like. The dragy pushes this channel to the next level. Keep it up.
I have 2019 ILX as well but the result surprised me. I was expecting better performance from Mazda 3 by advantage of 250 HP /AWD/ Turbo Engine except disadvantage of weight. I would say congratulations to ILX for the result against the Mazda3. (Thanks to Vtech and Dual Clutch 8Speed Transmission on ILX)
@@junkiexl86 everything you’re mentioning could’ve also effected the ilx…
Been watching your videos for years just realized I’m not even subscribed, love the new style.
Hope you changed that. 😂
I own a 2020, white pearl ilx premium. It is a fun little car. The dct is quick and the engine is quite peppy in sport. It has been replaced by the 1.5l turbo with a cvt or manual.
I really like the new car performance stats colors, the green looks really cool. Zoom zoom
@@TheBreakfastLover its only a second slower if it spins but it also depends how many miles you are above sea level. Because thats where n/a motors lose a lot of their power.
@@ilx_ben3680 a full second difference 0-60 is HUGE.
@@TheBreakfastLover yea ik but its only a second faster based on the factors i listed above. Read the factors.
Car and Driver got a 6.6 in the ILX
Lol did you watch the 0-60 ; 1/4 mile runs with dragy at the end? Yes, it is hot (86F) but you won’t go from 8 secs to 6.2 secs ..
Stock ILX in good temps, DA , etc, will range in the 6.7-7.2 sec I’m pretty sure the Mazda 3 here is not on premium fuel (not a Mazda owner nor a fan so not trying to “defend it”) but even though it’s hot, it should be able to do 6.6-6.7 sec..I’m guessing both cars are just a little heat soaked. Bc those times for both were horrendous no matter what 😆
Could you imagine if it had an LSD In The front, that race mightve looked a little different,
@@trialbygaming4588 I know right, but I read somewhere Acura wanted to « distinguish » the ILX from the Civic Si, the latter being more sporty than the ILX and less refined… I think jt’s a shame they overlooked the ILX… 🥲
@@layne4376 i’m the owner of the ILX, my car was built to be a show car. Heavy wheels, subwoofers, camber etc. I’m slower than stock hence why i got 8 seconds instead of 6.6 which most ILX Owners would get
Yes the speed for quarter miles are important because Dodge Chargers will loose 1/4 races but have higher trap speeds meaning it was coming just had to get all that weight going
Another great video and interesting race Sam! It's fun to see these daily driver drag races. I'm curious about a matchup between the 5.7 Charger vs CT4-V/CT5-V vs Type-S
Acura......
The more expensive Honda but lacks the performance. Not that they're bad but their the luxury side.
Very interesting video and result! I would have thought the Mazda 3 Turbo would smoke the ILX with an extra 50hp and 130lb of torque.
Just a small comment though, the ILX has a base price of $26500 USD and that model already comes with the same 201hp 8AT combo.
The Mazda 3 Turbo is a 5.7sec car not 7sec he was using 87 octane
@@eucmike it all depends on elevation and many other factors my Q50 red sports it’s a 4.5 sec car and were I live due to the high elevation the best I gotten so far is 5.3
Yea both cars weren't launchee extremely hard and there's no 1ft roll out. Both cars can do get faster times but it's nice to see them side by side.
Yes its not using 93 octane for sure which makes a difference in the car's hp / tq and also you can brake boost the Mazda to get a better launch because its not a dct . Both items would have made a considerable difference
The K24 in that Acura only needs some minor N/A mods, and it would smoke the bigger 2.5 turbo mazda. People don't understand how insane the K24 is. I'd go Acura all the way.
Sincerely, I prefer the style and quality of Acura, love Honda too!!
I’m surprised… I thought the Acura would’ve lost big on this one. Especially since it has 49 less horsepower & almost half the torque. But it kept up for most part. The upcoming Integra should be impressive when it comes out.
Great transmission. Now if someone adds a turbo the car will be ridiculously fast.
And the integra ended up being exactly like the honda civic si. Hopefully they come out with a type-s . I work for Acura
An intake with a down pipe, and tune pumps the ILX up to about 230hp. The 8DCT in the ILX is that good
Good now we can see acceleration measures by Dragy. Also it shows how dry acceleration numbers don’t mean it will be same on road. Dragy showed big difference in numbers between cars but on road they were almost same🤔
Hopefully in the refresh of the Mazda 3, Mazda puts in the 8 speed AT they have and Hopefully a manual too.
mazda3 turbo iss pretty much one of the few sub 35k awd subcompact sedans with awd so I'm not surprised that it won 2/3 times. granted it wasn't great but still
Sam...Love the new intro...music and graphics...Reminds me of the tv show... "The Six Million Dollar Man" from back in the day...keep up the great work...
Thank you!
I would disagree. This particular Mazda 3 turbo’d engine is thee best in the market it’s the transmission that holds it back.
Agreed
The new intro and editing is great . I think it’s better when it’s more subtle , I can definitely see myself rewatching the intro without skipping . The other one was getting a little old .
Thank you!
Buying am ilx is knowing you aren't buying it because of its performance but for it's sport luxury and it's handsome looks.
I would love to see a non turbo Mazda3 sedan vs Kia k5 gt-Line!! Awesome vid man!
Cool Video Sam !! Dragy's were great ! It's what viewers like to see..
for anyone shaming the Mazda 3 for “poor performance”, keep in mind the ILX has a Dual Clutch Transmission and an 8 Speed Automatic, that’s why it was able to keep up with the Mazda 3. Mazda 3 doesn’t have poor performance, it just has an outdated transmission.
With update trany will be even better but even with the old trany it is poor on accelration because zero spin with 310 vs180 lbs torque i expect more and from a roll the ilx just a tik slower
Therefore poor performance lol
@@waavydev it performed well for its time. it’s like saying a 1965 mustang has poor performance, no it does not, it just need revisions, upgrades and updates.
@@waavydev but think what you want.
@@michaelflops Its a 2021 Mazda 3, not a 1965 Mazda 3. They have the option of equipping it to today's tech and chose not to (for valid cost reasons I'm sure) but deserve the scrutiny either way.
That Mazda3 Turbo does not have 93 Octane in it. The 0-60 time should be around 6 seconds.
cope
@@Painting_Inspiration yeah. The best one i did was 5.7src. With 93oct. For sure, it's not using the high octane gas on this test
@@rinkashime345887 octane for sure in this race......
This new Format Is Awesome! I love this, bring back some other cars you ran for Dragy's.
Sam this video was great! I really like how u do roll and dig races. Specially in some of ur videos where u match AWD VS FWD. u do dig to show AWD advantage but u also do rolls to show the Fwd Advantage and how close they can be on highway. I’m talking about ur videos in general. One thing though sam. PLEASE BRING THE MUSIC BACK
Thank you!
Awesome new format. I love it!! Please more suv content. Palisade/telluride would be awesome!!
As the owner of a Palisade, I couldn't agree more. (Wife's car) 😂
I gotta say that although I knew the Mazda would win these races, I wasn't expecting the gap to be that small.
Can you PLEASE do a drag between the ILX and KIA GTline???? (not GT)
Do you like the Acura ILX a lot? Is it because it is automatic transmission?
Kia has like 5 gt line models and this would smoke half of them we need a ILX vs Kia Forte GT
@@brynnleahnayvieghlaykynnn6175 I don’t think the ILX can smoke the KIA GT line. I drove the ILX and it’s a dog.
Bring it mother fucker.... I'm not stock....
Great video! I love the changes! Enjoyed seeing the Dragy info.
Would really love to see the ILX vs the SI
Same here! Stock 2.4l n/a VS Stock 1.5l turbo
What was the steering wheel in the ILX? I'd love to purchase.
Sleeping on the ilx. Can get one for 20k basically brand new. This car gets so much hate for no reason.
Ilx body lines are so good! Very good looking car!
Very interesting if the ilx was a 2.0t it would be amazing
The ILX was not running on premium fuel, plus it had after market wheels and still preformed that well. Its a crazy simple, weird beast of a vehicle to me. Love the ILX, bought one and dang love it for a commuter, everyday car. Change the oil and transmission fluid normally and it will go forever, so scary simplistic to me with that NA K engine and 8speed DCT.
its not apsec thats why it prob lost and the mx3 is turbo
I like that you implemented time using dragy.
That ILX looks sharp. REally looking forward to the new Integra. Hoping that DCT with the type R makes it into new model
I once heard someone say an ILX is a civic si in a tuxedo and thats so true
A 2 generation old Civic Si now with the introduction of the 2022. Redesign way overdue.
I own a turbo 3 confused on how you guys got so a high 0-60 time. I have the car and its usally around 5.7-5.9 on 93 and 6.1 on 91. Fun race tho
The ILX has a beautiful sounding engine and takes off like a dream (when it doesnt jerk) but just like the Chevy Cruz feeling fast does not equal fast... Its perfect for city driving though and is super nimble around curves! Very fund to drive!
So are we impressed with the Acura or disappointed with the Mazda?
Both
The ILX needs about 20HP more and about 30lb ft of torque. Like a Golf GTI specs.
Honda really needs to add some more to their next SI and Integra.
Now let's see an older ILX with a 6 speed manual go against a 9th generation civic si!
I can provide the ILX 6 speed manual 🤣 my own car
You still don't know how to use this 2.5T engine. First, put on 91 octane at least, using for 2-3 times full tank to let the ECU knows the change, and you HAVE TO use manual shifter to get a later RPM shift point. As a AWD, you have to launch start and build the turbo boost at the same time. By the way, I am live in Ontario, I don't mind to teach you how to drive this car.
By 2-3 times do you mean burn though the fuel? It takes that much for the ECU to realize it’s a higher octane?
The good ol 2.4l Vtecccccc yooo!
You said that he in the ILX took it on a roll? Did I miss something because I saw the Mazda inch ahead...
Omg thank you for the Dragy !!!
Ilx vs SI please.
Can you do one of the Acura ILX and Mazda 3 sport in a manual for the mz3
Love new design and music only thing please use bigger font for car specs or change color. Hard to read from moblie. Excellent work!
Surprised the ILX wasn’t quicker. My stock 2014 Civic Si with 6MT ran a 0-60 7.9 and 1/4 mile at 15.8 @ 88 mph dragy run with 91 octane
They don’t know how to drive. Tons of people getting under 6 second 0-60 with the new 3. Traction off and brake torque.
Can we get the Mazda3 Turbo against stock Hyundai Veloster N please
What is the elevation of this drag strip? Elevation can greatly effect 1/4 times. There is a simple equation to adjust the time back to sea level. Density altitude. (DA). There is nothing wrong with these dragy times. These are so many variables at play. Altitude, air temp, humidity, wind direction and speed, driver skill. Most magazines times are done at sea level or DA adjusted to sea level and with the most optimal weather conditions.
That 6sp in that Mazda really holds the power back
After owning a 3 turbo hatch for about 6 months I can point out a couple of things that I noticed about the vid:
First, I can tell that the Mazda is not running 93 octane to get the full 250hp.
Second: the 3 is awd. Do a brake launch. Hold it to about 2000rpm and do a propper launch. 7 seconds to 60mph is way off from what myself and others are getting. Should be about 5.6-5.8 to 60mph easy.
Acura may have lost but it won the race cuz of age and power/torque differences.
Sam, Excellent only feedback because I'm losing my eyes please bigger font on car stats all else perfect
New intro is cool! The draggy runs are awesome now we can actually see their time for the 1/4 mile which is a huge things for the car guys. Keep them coming 👍🏽
Impressive Vtec engine and DCT ! I hope they continue using this combination in the future
I don't care if the Acura is slow I'd buy one used in a couple years.
Hard to read car specs if watching mobile phone, way too small, please revert back to an old format!:) Gang please upvote for him too see !
That Acura sounds like my lawnmower
Excellent dragy 👍👍👍
Take one curve or corner and you will instantly know where the extra money goes in the Acura. They handle like a dream.
How many early 2000's mazdas do you see driving around (maybe a miata but no proteges)? How many old TLs and CL's do you see driving around? Acuras last.
I dunno, that's really the majority I see around my area in Seattle is older Mazda 3s and protege5s, Acuras are usually down with check engine lights in a rich guys front yard
Great Video, Thanks!! Just curious tho, was it premium or regular gas inside the Mazda?
I like how you showed the times at the end.
Power to rate ratio illustrations... wow 👌
i got a 2020 ilx and its fast in this video it had a good run mazda had 50hp more and the ilx was still close and where can i get that ilx steering wheel i like that carbon
Let’s hope the Integra has a similar engine to the one in the ILX and not a 1.5t
Probably on Type-S for the 2.0t, but my guess is the base Integra will have same engine as new Civic Si, which should be a 1.5t 🤭
Assuming regular gas in the Mazda? That draggy time is a dead giveaway.
Can we get the Mazda3 Turbo vs Hyunday Veloster N soon?!
Got a 16 ilx for 11k and im super happy with it.
