Best idea is to solder the 4 joystick pins housing FIRST. to keep the housing flat. Then work on the other pins. That way the joystick is flat during the whole soldering process. Don't go from left to right of all pins. You can tell the four housing pins are the ones in a square shape point. X figure solder them. Then you can work on the other pins. This'll keep the joystick housing stable while you work on the other pins to solder down.
The biggest problem with doing other joysticks say like Xbox to Wii-U. Is those have a different type of tension/friction systems then the Wii-U's will. You'll notice that the stock will have a much smoother and free moving silk movement. While Xbox will have a more 'drag' feeling effect that sure you'll be able to feel the direction more and have a more dead stop. But it won't be as clean feeling as the stocks. The best choice would be to buy some OEM Wii-U Gamepad joysticks with the board. Desolder those and resolder the new ones onto the controller. That way you'll get the exact same feeling joysticks with a refresh performance. But in the end if you like the Xbox feeling joysticks and want a more Wii-U controller style. This video choice would be the option. It'll feel bit weird at first that you'll feel again more of a xbox style joystick friction and tension. But if you wish to play more PC related games using a May-Flash adapter or so. This type of Controller will beat any others by far.
Thank you for the great walk thru. We'll done.
Will hall effect sticks work?
Try with switch pro controller hall sticks
Try with switch pro controller hall sticks replacement
Great video jake
Thanks Gareth, appreciate it.
Hello, link for a original stick replacement? In euro-zone please.
Afther brexit the UK Seller notnate a good option...😭
Thx.
Amazing video!
Wow!
Btw! Question! What’s the name of those arms which you use to hold the board while you do the work?
And also what’s the name of that blue mat which you used to lay the controller on at the beginning of the video?
Thank you for the comments, I really appreciate it. Regarding your questions: The arms I am using in the video are called: Soldering Station Helping Hands, there are range of them available, some with 2 arms, others with 6 arms, mine are attached to my Holife soldering station which really helps and finally the blue mat I am using is a Anti-Static Silicone Soldering work mat, and again these come in different sizes.
Hope these answers help. 🙂
@@theretropal thanks a lot! Definitely helps!
I will look them up! :)
And once again! Thanks for the vid!
nice video, Why the ebay link for the joystick says "Xbox one controller replacement"? is it compatible?
Thanks appreciate it, regarding your question, yes the replacement is compatible. 🙂
Cheers for video, I just recently found out Xbox One sticks are compatible, so I'm attempting to get a set of GuliKits Hall Effect Joysticks or even their newer Electromagnetic Sticks
Hopefully everything will pan out and they'll fit lol, I don't see why it wouldn't as they specifically make a set for the XBox One
Was wondering also if you had ever tried to recalibrate these controllers, the process is pretty straightforward:
1. Allow the control sticks to return to a neutral untouched position.
2. Simultaneously hold down the A Button, B Button, + Button, and - Button for at least 3 seconds.
(There will be no indication when the recalibration is complete).
Absolutely lost it after reading that last sentence, how hard would it have been for Nintendo to have either the Blue:(player-status) or Orange:(charging) LED flash when the recalibration is complete.
Joystick for xbox one works? O just sticks?
I have my Wii U pro controller set aside for years because the joystick simply doesn’t respond. It’s not the same issue as yours, about the drift. But I believe that only the replacement should solve it.
All the other buttons works perfectly. Just the stick that doesn’t respond. Doesn’t matter which movement I do with it. There’s no reaction at all.
Have you managed to fix it? I have the same problem, one of the sticks doesn't respond on the y axis..
@@ghawke1494 unfortunately no, I still haven’t tried. Still gotta order the analog replacement. But as far as I can tell this could be the only solution possible.
@@CJ_IceCissalc I managed to fix mine last night. One of the solder points on the sticks potentiometer wasn't going to the cable that connects to the main board. I hope that helps you in some way, good luck!
@@ghawke1494 thank you for the reply! I should definitely check it if it’s the case here as well! I still haven’t really opened it up to check! Thanks for the reply! 🤙
Good God what an unnecessary waste of time to do. I wish they didnt make these controllers joysticks so fragile. 😮💨 is it possible to replace them with hall effects?
Your controller could possibly not have stick drift at all. I noticed with mine, upon opening it, there was dust and dog hair within my controller analog stick!
If your controller temporarily works upon blowing into the edges of the where the analog stick is drifting, then a simple clean up may resolve the issue
The problem isn't with the 'Sticks' themselves. It's the abuse people put on them. I have a Wii nunchuk that's almost 20years old and it's still dead centered after tons of playing.
The biggest reason most get 'drift' is because the abuse they do to them. From not only slamming the joystick DOWN hard. But also do to the fact people SLAM them to the sides really hard. And Drift isn't always about the inner discs in the sensors wearing down. It can also be the effect of the spring inside the bottom end of the joysticks that snap it back to 0. Since the rod that you move, On the bottom there is a disc and a spring to make the joystick recenter itself. This spring or floating disc inside the middle of the joystick can sometimes get worn down due to the harsh abuse the player does to the joysticks and the joystick ends up not returning to 0. More due to the fact of the Spring rather then the sensor itself. It's why Gamecube and Wii likely never saw 'Drift' because it never had a mouse click button on the ledge of the joystick for people to 'push down' for it to be a click button system.
Hall effects also DO get drift to. And reason again is mainly due to the fact of the harsh wear and tear people give it for the spring inside the joystick center that cannot allow it to recenter to 0 again. Either by how they throw the stick around or by pushing it down to much. So Hall effects aren't truly the answer to all controller drift. It's more how you treat the joysticks.
The less slam and slap. the better and longer it'll last.
GOD BLESS YOU, Very helpful and informative video. Thank you very much! 🩸❤️🤍🕊🙏🏼💪🏼🛠🎮✅️
