While the Uni Knot can be applied to almost every fishing scenario and is one of the best knots to know, it's not the only knot that can help you achieve fishing mastery. I have created a complete knot tying Masterclass that will take you step-by-step through over 30 knots that I have used and trusted with clients, in pursuit of world records, and on the set of Saltwater Experience
When I was first learning how to fish, I found knots one of the most difficult and frustrating things to master. I have specially designed this course for both the absolute beginner and the experienced angler. I sure hope this course helps you in your journey to becoming a master angler. Enjoy!

I got blown up in combat ( lucky no real physical damage ) but I suffer from concussive blast injury, which means I can't remember things well, and find it hard to learn new things, having your video has been a great help to me, and others like me. I have watched it several times, and if I get confused I just watch again, I can now tie anything for my fishing time. Thankyou.
Thank u for ur service
Thanks for your service!
I screen record them or download the videos to my phone so when fishing without service you can refer back to all the knots you may need to use.
@@ChristiannTyler Good idea, I'll do that as well, thanks.
Really great abrasion resistance and though I've never put the Big Game line ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxQ4x31pJVpClzhxzNFeILZYTW7Xbs7ZIF (any poundage) through an official test it always seems to break well above rated poundage. This line stretches a very good amount before it breaks and does well in saltwater too. Not the best line for a spinning reel in my opinion, especially if you're planning on using it for lures only due to it having a bit of memory but still a great line whether filling a spool, using as top shot or strictly for leader line. I've bought a bunch of Big game line in the past and plan on continuing to do so in the future.
This is literally one of the only knots I tie! It's a killer. Never lost a hook on it in 20 years of fishing!
I remember having a book as a child with marine knots. Nothing but an entire encyclopedia of all the possible rope patterns, and it was mind-boggling how someone could come up with all these things. Looking a headphone cable in my pocket I'd joke that they must've invented half the knots by accident.
As a first time Fisher, this knot has come in really handy. I can't thank you enough
One knot to rule them all
Lord of the knots
Matt Ganci Very true.
Matt Ganci
One does not simply uni knot
FG not is way better for braid to leader, strong and very low profile for passing through line guides on the rod.
Indeed, it's the only knot I use for fishing, and is handy for a lot of other situations. Learned it when I was a kid back in the 70's from a pamphlet on knots.
Same here . Has been more than 50 years now and I can tie it quickly and very few failures. Last year I caught a 30 lb catfish on 8 lb test while crappie fishing. That not held and I don’t think I need to learn another
I’ve watched several different videos on this subject. Yours is the best and most helpful as far as being able to see how the knot is formed. Thank you. Excellent work.
This is the most versatile knot out there , very strong 💪🏾 and dependable
I appreciate you using line that I can see with a black background.
My grandpa showed me this when I was 7 and I have used this knot ever since. Thumbs up👍
I learned this knot from a famous manufacturer and Tuna fisherman, Dennis Braid on a nine day Excel Tuna trip out of San Diego some years ago. I haven't used many other knots for 95% of my fishing needs. He said at the time "El come over here and I'll show you a great knot that even the biggest Tuna won't break". And he was right. I use it for everything, therefore I thought it was called the"Braid Knot" named after him. A great knot.
+Ellis Feibush Dennis Braid has done a tremendous amount of fishing. He knows good knots!
The best thing about this knot is you can tie it in the dark it's so easy, I'm rubbish at remembering knots so now this is all I use except for tying shock leader as I think the blood knot makes a smaller join.
Fantastic I've got to teach this on to my grandson now that he thinks he is red fishing expert at 8 yrs old, lol we fish Galveston, thanks.
Abu Garcia s
Tag end.
I like that term a lot for the end part of the line. This was fantastic too, and you explained it all wonderfully. Thank you :)
Concise & perfectly explained. video with everything you need to know without of all the usual palaver. Thank you.
Uni knot and Palomar are must knows. Palomar whenever you can and Uni for everything else. Great video. Explained and demonstrated this knot perfectly. 👍
great job on video. my go too knot after i learned this knot few years ago never looked back
One my favorite knots to tie, very strong and reliable.
Can Not explain how much I appreciate this video and the time you take to show how to tie this knot over and over. I will use this for a lifetime
I have been using the uniknot for about 15 years fish for big red snapper , grouper , redfish ,bass this my go to knot for leaders , swivels and hooks. Caught hundreds of giant fish excellent knot easy to tie. I have more confidence in this knot than any other.
Good stuff... thanks for this clear to understand, well filmed and informative video. Thumbs up!
Weak knot. It only goes through the eyelet once.
Palomar or Trilene.
@@forestcityfishing4749 Not familiar with those, I'll have to look those up. Thanks for the tip.
That's a great quick knot for "walk the dog" lures. Thx! I was just using it for braid to fluoro.
Excellent video tutorial on tying the Uni knot. Best tutorial on tying this knot that I have ever seen! Didn’t realize this knot could be used for 95 percent of fishing situations. Just awesome!
Had I known it was that simple it would have saved me frustration as a teenager... Instead I gave up and took up spear fishing instead. Best change of hobby ever!
That is mastery. You are truly an expert. Excellent video.
That's the best demo I've seen, good technique of using the different color line!
This tutorial is the best I've seen! That's why it has almost 6 million views. Thanks
Learned this knot from Texas fisherman Virgil Ward. That was back in 1970. Great knot, fast put to use when they are on! Great vlog, thanks for sharing ad teaching.
You have single-handidly restored my hope that maybe I can fish one day. The reason I quit was because I was spending all of my time trying to tie stupid, complex knots and my hook wasn't in the water. Thank you!
This is the knot I always use, no problems with it ever.
I cannot thank you enough for this video, explained and shown very well. The knot is phenomenal!
This is the knot that my grandpa showed me about 65 years ago.and I’ve never had it give. I’ve caught brim, redfish, shark, bass, and jacks (42lb) .. this was the best explanation I’ve ever heard! Thanks
simply clever for all situations.
It's a great knot, and simple to tie. I'm also using a Palomar knot, just as easy to tie and is stronger, just not as versatile. Mostly I use a swivel or snap swivel for connecting 2 lines or for quickly changing lures. So for me the Palomar knot works best. I do use the Uni when fly fishing though, makes short work on changing flies or tying a new leader to your main
I agree. I use the Uni and Palomar. I like the Palomar for my lures and an easy drop shot set up. I'll use the uni to snell my circle hooks. Two knots to rule them all. 😆
Great video. I learned the clinch knot over 55 years ago and still use it in one form or another. Thanks for the update.
After fishing for 65 years and spending hundreds of hours retying the clinch knot (putting the tag end through the wrong side of the formed loop!), I may have learned something NEW. Thanks.
Excellent demonstration .Thanks.
I remember my Dad taught me how to tie my first clinch knot. I still use them on my swivels with no problem, I use the simple Snell on my hooks. I will add this one. I think those 3 are all you need. I haven't lost any Wipers with those 2, but I like this one as well. 8-10 pounders are common and they fight like nothing else around here. Thanks for the video.
Top top video. Crystal clear. Thanks. Think we call this a grinner knot in UK but this is perfect. Love the way you have done a hook, back to back and loop all in same video! Class
I was taught this knot as a little child and I have used it for over 50 years this is the best knot I ever used fishing
you did just teach a kid to tie this knot, thank you, now I'm ready to go fishinh
never forget learning this knot back in the 80s, after i got so good that i could tie it in the dark in about 15 to 20 seconds i started teaching it to anyone that was interested. I have people come back and thank me many years later.
Having just watched this excellent tutorial I experimented with 2 uni knot loops as a loop to loop connection and when I pulled it up tight it formed a sort of spring/shock absorber I am not sure how strong this is but it was also lower in profile, but the connection was longer than the uni to uni connection so if equal in strength to the uni to uni knot this could pass through the guides even easier. Thanks for posting this tutorial the instruction was very well presented and easy to follow.
The Uni is a terrific one, thank you for this easy to follow demonstrational.
I just wanted to thank you for this video. I love to fish but I have a lot to learn. never had anyone to show me how to tie a proper fishing knot before. very helpful end easy. thank you for taking the time to do this!!
Maybe the best UNI video on the TUBE. Just remember to wet your line when you cinch them up. Especially with flouro and braid. The knot will cinch up tighter and no burns or abrasions. Personally I use saliva, preferably my own:)
CZRider why not other saliva
WET is a MUST!
i use a fishermans knot...i will try out that knot u showed thanks bud. and those people that cant tye A Knot then tye lots and lots...lol
My 6yo daughter just tied a perfect uni knot! This is a great video and I am the best dad.
Thank You Very Much Mr. Saltwater Exprience for your Teaching , Thanks as, GREAT Teaching ! 😄😄😄👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great knot been around for years. It's featured prominently in Vic Dunaway's book the Complete Book of Baits, Rigs and Tackle. This book is a must for any angler.
Robert Johnson Yep...nothing new about the knot. Every fisherman should know it
The best knot ever ! I even tried tying 2 very different diameter fishing lines. They really become one. So strong, unbelievable! It's worth watching the demonstrated video again and again, which I did. And I think it's well worth while. This kind of knot would be very useful in our everyday life, not only fishing. Thank you!!
Wu San You are right about using it for other things as well, thanks
Ive always tied the uni but yesterday I was fishing and lost 3 lures when I back lashed stopping the baits suddenly in the air breaking the uni. If someone could help me? I do wet the line before I cinch the knot.
Yes wet the line before cinching
Wait a minute. I know this knot as the Duncan Loop, and it is indeed the knot I use for pretty much everything. However, I hadn't considered using it as the anchor knot to the reel. NICE!!
And now I see just how easy it is to tie a uni-to-uni ... just bought some fluoro today to try out using it as a leader. Never done it before. Leader for both mono and braid. Seems way easier than either the blood knot or surgeon's knot. Cool beans. :D
This is the best lesson on the uni knot I have ever seen! Thank you!
The best knot i have ever found is when I'm trying to unwind my extension chord..
So true
try fish n fool knot is the basicly, but much stronger!
Awesome the uni knot is what I use every time when I am tying my line to swivels when I tie it to a hook I use a snell I have never had one pull!!!!
Pls don't snell
Yakin'SC why
My grandpa didn't teach me any decent line to line nots before he lost his mind due to cancer complications... he has now passed. Thanks for this video,I think he will be proud of me now, proper self sufficient fisherman :)
Very well presented. A very useful knot for fly fishing for adding droppers. On the reel side once finished tie a half hitch you now have dropper. Thanks for posting.
You give the best examples and demonstrations.
Guard Dog Actual Thanks so much. Glad it helps
***** dat isn't doble uni knot doble uni is wen u doble line den do uni knot to oter uni wit also doble line 4 line conecton n it not as strong as u tink most strongest line conecton 4 lines is 12 turn bimni twis n ucatan knot conecton dis is strongest by far
Apoc Wolfman Apoc, if you are going to give advice and criticize a video, spend 30 seconds and make your response intelligible... And by the way, over 30 years fishing and I have never had a double uni (yes, it is a double uni) fail.
dmc16336 Outstanding response dmc16336
dmc16336 dats becuz u fish 4 small size week saltwater fish but u never fish 4 reel man size powarfull fish like black marlins Alaska halbut n African tigerfish
God bless you brother thank you for teaching us this I really appreciate it
You are very welcome
This is the only type of knot I use. strongest hold you could ever have. Great video! Thank you
I am in Islamorada now and just used this vid to go from 12 to 30lb mono for the cudas under the Cheeca dock, very easy and I am ready to roll! Thanks guys!
digijams That is awesome! Post a pic to our facebook page or tag us on insta
Teach it to a kid hell . I'm over 60 . Thank you so much .And you don't want to know how many big fish i have lost to poor knots .
+bull frogger Now pass it on!
+bull frogger I've been using this since I was a kid over 20 years ago. Surprised that its not more widely known!
bull frogger i
gotta wet those knots with spit just before you tighten. If they have been slipping, you are probably tightening them down DRY !
it's not the knot, it can never be the knot, it's the way you do the knot.
Glad I’m not the only one that uses this for about everything........
Most practical and easy to tie in the field and one of the strongest. One knot that does all things well.
Fantastic video. Learned it yesterday from my brother-in-law. Will be watching your video to master it! Thanks for the great public service!
Known as a 'Grinner knot' when I was a kid in Ireland
All these times.. i tied it wrong.. thanks for the tutorial
Awesome tutorial! Thank you for taking the time to do this
WOW! Every fisherman needs this knot. Excellent video
A great knot for lures . Let's them move freely . Wash D C
Catfish
You mean to directly knot lures to the line? I rather use the rapala knot, because it gives the lure much more freedom to move: you'll cast further and avoid spinning lines.
Aawww man I did something like the double uni a while back and I thought I'd invented something new lol, me and my buddies called the spinarette
The only knot you'll ever need indeed! I'm currently on a fishing trip in guadeloupe, using a 2.40/10-30gr spin rod and a Shimano exage. using a double uni to tie my leader to the braided line and another uni for the lure. hooked, fought and landed a huge bonefish who took around 75m of line off my reel - line/knots were rock solid. I'm not the world's most experienced angler, but even I can tie the uni to quickly change lures while standing on a flat.
+1SaG Awesome! Great work
Thank you for the BEST uni-knot tutorial I've seen. as a 'lefty' this gives me the best view for my left hand dominant dexterity.
Glad you enjoyed it. We have many more knot videos. Subscribe to see the latest
One knot, to rule all others.
+Marco Montana Yeah! Palomar is the real name. Look it up. Maybe your daddy only had one (nut) and when he was pointing at the nut, you thought he was pointing at the knot? "This is a uni nut son ....."
Well aren't you just A nice man. If momma were alive, I don't think you'd be the best choice for dinner. Mercy. Such a nasty mind!
Or...he played with your horns and got a bunch Bull instead...
the palomar is at best an 85% of the breaking strength of the line knot the uni is stronger and easier to tie....
The knot I tie 95% of the time is a 6 wrap San Diego Jam. It's rated around 94-95% strength, stronger than a palomar even, and just as easy to tie. It's stronger than an improved clinch, either regular or double, by far. That's for a direct connection to a hook or a lure. It's the strongest knot out there in my experience. The other 5% I'll use a palomar.
If I'm tying in a leader, I use an FG knot(braid main line) or double uni (Mono main line). I've had double uni knots fail when using braided main line(on the cast) because of the lack of stretch, and I've ended up losing several expensive lures because of it. I've been tying the knot for years so I know how to tie it properly without having it weaken itself. I've never had a failure with an FG knot with braided main line and a fluoro leader. I use anywhere from 15lb to 30lb braid when I'm using fluorocarbon leaders.
The only other time I find myself tying a uni knot is when I'm spooling a reel, or as a backing to main line knot. Just for simplicity sake. It's a very quick and easy connection knot but I lack some confidence in it as a terminal knot.
When you tied the knot and left the gap (loop) by the hook, the bait will swim better for sure, but if you slide the knot all the way to the hook and tighten it... isn't that uni the strongest possible you can have? Thanks. Excellent video!
I wondered why he left a loop there. Thanks
I find this Uni knot the best so thank you very much for this video and big hello for you from Bosnia and Herzegovina
Nice finish. At first I was intrigued about tying the knot to the hook that way...but to have it on the reel and hold, icing on the cake.
Thanks for posting... I am curious if you do 4 or 5 loops when attaching to the reel? It seems that you could get away with one or two to reduce the size of the knot.
The size of the knot is not going to be much different nor will it affect the rest of the line. I want the strongest knot I can get there, so if a fish takes everything, I may still have a chance.
+Saltwater Experience if the fish takes everything? Love that positive attitude... Lol
It happens
Jeff G
95% of the time it works every time.
+olafurhh03 You bet it does
Only if it’s not a dropshot
I'm glad I came across your video, finally a knot I can use and teach my Grandson. I was raised old school to use swivels and I really wanted to get away from them.Thank you so much
+Allen Irwin That is the perfect knot to teach a kid! Glad you like it
Best "Uni knot" video I've found. Thanks!
now i what to know about the other 5 pct.
Tie a man's Uni knot and he will fish for a day or until he gets hung up and has to break his line off; teach a man to tie the Uni knot and he will fish for a lifetime.
ɷɷ Heeyy Friends I Have Found Working Online Hacck visittttt : - t.co/gLzzYXb5jt

I'm not a fisherman but this looks like a great permanent utility knot. Thanks for sharing!
I haven't fished in over 30 years. This was very helpful to get me started. Now if I can just see that darn 6 lb line.
those r some fishermans hands for sure lol
knot bad knot bad at all =) thanx
+smiles1969able No pun intended
Thanks for your very informative video about this knot, and all the situations that it covers. I want to teach two of my great grandchildren how to fly fish this summer, but I want them to learn how to set up, and change flies and rods, and such, by themselves. The time that you took to make this presentation is priceless to me.....we'll just have to practice. Thank you again.
I compliment you with your teaching ability: you are a great teacher! Thank you for being generous by sharing. May God bless you more.
Great video. Presented very well. I remember my Dad teaching me that knot when we would fish in Santa Cruz. Great memories.
Thanks. I love the knot. You give a great explanation and make a good video. You’re a good teacher. Ray
Love this knot! Really useful for joining lines. I used it for making seamless necklace!
Excellent instruction video, no bs, informative, educational, precise and clear.
Your video allowed me to master the knot this weekend. I didn't have to wait for someone else to do my knots. Thank you for this video
Great concise video! Using the black background and colored line makes it ultra visible. The uni is my go-to knot as well.
Glad you like it. Thank you
Best uni knot tutorial I’ve seen. Great-many thanks! 🙏🏻
Great video and demonstration. Saltwater experience is my favorite fishing show too.
I use the uni on everything and it's the perfect nail knot for slip bobber fishing! Its easy to use easy to teach and is more versatile then all the others I've seen and tried ! ! ! Thanks for the vid.
🥃cheers🍻
Thanks for sharing this, great video I have seen this knot on other videos but this is the best one I've ever seen without a doubt I believe I can do it now with confidence. Using the large line made it easier to see what was happening.
Best visual demo on the internet! Great job!
Great instructional video! I finally learned how to tie the uni knot. Thank you!
