I’m from Great Britain and I discovered this knot a few years ago thanks to this video. I mainly fish BFS on canals and this is the only braid to fluorocarbon knot I use, it’s incredibly neat and strong. I was adding a spot of knot glue in the beginning as I was unsure how it would handle lighter lines (6-10lbs), the knot glue is not needed. I have taught this knot to quite a few who were suffering from braid pulling off flouro leaders, they report no more slips. Thanks matey I’ve been fishing over forty years and I’m still learning.
Man.....I really appreciate these knot videos. Extremely helpful.
+Sam Hindsman No problem. Share and subscribe for more
Great demonstration!! The bigger string illustration helped out a bunch on being able to see what to do
Yes, much easier than the FG knot, and easy to do in the field. This will now be my go-to leader knot, thanks.
I used this knot for the first time this week and landed a 35 pound, a 24 pound, and several 10 to 15 pound blue catfish without any problems at all....I can't wait until I get down to Florida to try it out on some of the saltwater species!!!
Thank u so much, my local bait shop told me about this knot, I came home watched your video just once and landed it.
Right on! Thanks for watching, glad it helped!
not gonna lie man....ur knots are very helpful....and quite easy to do since they are shown clearly how to do them...good work bud ..Thanks!
What a great demo man. I'm about to rig up my gear with braid to fluorocarbon for the first time and this looks easy enough even for a noob like me
Works “upside down “ here in Australia - thanks mate - great knot !
I tried this knot for the first time this week... I was definitely nervous as i was fishing for tarpon and the majority in my area have been over 100lbs... I hooked and landed my biggest "kayak tarpon" ever at ~130lbs... initially I was cautious with the drag because i worried about the knot holding up and hoped i tied it correctly... I gained confidence in the knot half way through the fight and was able to put some serious heat on the fish... thanks guys for the great video!! I'll be driving down to Conch Key in about 2 weeks, maybe I'll run into you guys at Worldwide and give proper thanks!! Tight lines!!
Ryan Graham what was the size line did u used on the flouro and braid
Congrats on the new pb
I was dreading having to learn how to tie my fluoro leader to my braid, but your video made it so simple! Thanks bro!
I’m a total klutz with knots and always struggle but I did this one right first time I tried . Very easy to remember and tie. Thanks so much
I started using this knot last year with no break offs. Caught a 5.5 and a couple of 4's, (LB). Very easy to tie. Have access to an Instron material tester and the break using 30lb braid and 15 lb flouro was approx 10 to 12 lbs. That beat all the other experiments.
I've always used a bloodknot but when I moved up to 25lb Flourocarbon, I didn't have the strength in my hands to pull it tight. I lost a lot of good jigs because of this.
THIS knot is perfect and so easily shown how to tie!
*Have used the braided line for several years **enjoyable.fishing** recommend both for salmon in the summer as well as walleye through the ice. Can’t beat it for the price!*
Love this knot! I had been having trouble with the line braking at the knot. I've been using the Alberto knot for the last two years and have not lost a knot. I love this knot.
My fav knot! alberto has done me wonders!
I have been using this knot for 2 years to attach floro to braid without problems. It is great for jigging purposes. You can also attach single strand wire to a floro leader, to avoid king cut-offs. Did not know the name of this knot. Thanks Tom.
Kayak Frank No problem. I like the Alberto alot and will be using it regularly
I've been looking for the name of the knot forever, love it awesome replacement for the FG knot
Wow great knot. So much easier to tie than uni-to-uni as well!
Thank god!!! Thank you so much, way easier and just as strong as the FG knot. I feel like this knot goes through the guides a lot better aswell
Forget that FG knot I cant get the braid to hold onto my fluorocarbon this one looks and works just as well in my opinion, Thanks for making a video that actually displays good teaching on line tying
I had a similar problem today with the FJ just couldn't get the braid to hold. I like this knot, thanks uploader
Yeah, I don't know why, but the FG knot method doesn't synch the flouro to braind properly, it slips !
I'm with you guys, I'll never tie the FG again. I lost a big Kingfish in a tournament due to slippage.
FG knot is stronger but harder to do. I actually use a bobbin tool to make a PR knot which is even stronger and tighter than an FG. The Albright or Alberto knot is just a quicker option which is good for squidding to combine main to leader but for serious fishing the elite use the FG or PR knot.
You're probably using lines that are too small, or you're just not doing something right. The FG is most definitely a saltwater knot, or at least meant for larger lines. I wouldn't use it if my leader wasn't at least 20 lb test. For finesse lines like bass fishing, uni-to-uni or alberto are the knots that work best for me.
Great video! Thanks for the help! I have been switching to lighter tackle but still enjoy using a 40lb leader for all the structure and was having an awful time using my old knot with 10lb braid and 40lb leader. This is much better!
This is by far my favorite knot for braid to mono. Thanks to Crazy Alberto and SWE!!
Great video! I want to fish, not be a professional knot tie-er. FG knot takes way too long to tie and is too complicated. This alberto knot is my new line connection knot! Quick & easy.
Top notch attention to detail on explaining, thanks.
I have been using a similar knot for over 20,years to join mono top shot to Dacron or braid back up on smaller reels that have less line capacity when only using mono.Don’t send the tag line the same way as it came in go opposite & then sinch it down neatly then put 3 very tight half hitches before cutting tag line. This ensures that there is no bump sticking up that can get caught coming into the rod guides especially if you are using ring guides designed for braid. Also at the other end after cutting that tag line use your fingernail to pull back a few loops onto mono or fluorocarbon & then pull tight so that it covers that end this ensures that on an aggressive bit the tag end doesn’t hook on the guide on the way out.
This is a much better variation than the Alberto knot.
In testing it holds to 100%
i've found that this works better than the FG when dealing with small diameter flouro and slick braid.
It is a good knot
Thx for sharing, thats a new one for me. Will try on my inshore setups. Offshore I use an Albright with the Lefty Kreh locking knot on the braided end as an extra caution.
Thank you for the first knot in this video!
This is a great knot for joining two lines. One thing I've found is that it doesn't matter which way you feed the tag-end through to finish the knot off. Very strong
Dannie Hill Agreed
Actually been using this for a few months now and prefer it over the FG because it's so much faster, easier and very very strong
This is the knot I use, easy to do at the beach even on a very cold day, it’s seems to be more streamlined thank others I have used, passes through the rod eyes easier in my opinion.
Great vid. I always leave 3/8” when I trim . Good habit to go along with all my bad ones
I’m getting ready to go tuna fishing and wondering will this work with 65 pound braid to like a 40 pound floral carbon leader?
Thx for the video and taking time to show us .
Great video thanks 😊
How long should the mono lead be? I assume you have to continue to keep tying the Alberto knot because you will use your leader line up eventually every time you change lures??
Much better alternative to the FG for when you need small diameter fluorocarbon in the winter months. Also an improvement in speed and easier to tie in the field compared to an FG.
It's a good knot to know and use. I use the a knot similar to this one but can't remember the name of it. I double my mono or fluoro to make a loop then pass braid from the bottom of the loop thru loop then wrap braid around leader 4-7 times up leader then 4-7 times back down then pass tag end thru loop from top to bottom then wrap tag end around braid against loop to pass tag end thru loop again from top to bottom pull on main braid line and leader slowly lubricate and pull tight. Since I have started to wrap tag end thru twice it really locks the knot super tight and will not come out. I learned this a year ago in San Diego on a tuna trip because my Alberto knot slipped out while fighting a tuna
very good
On tje way out, I usually like to wrap around the fluro 3 times. Never had a slip
Thanks for this video. Really helpful.
Great knot I like , very strong 💪
sorry. im about to ask a silly question, by using baitcaster to cast for snakehead for example, to avoid any snag between the connection of braided to fluoro at rod eyes, which knot is the best?alberto?fg?uni?or those the same purposes with different names and strength???
FG knot has too many variations on how to actually secure it, way too many wraps too. I love this Alberto knot, used it on a drop shot rig last week and it held up just fine catching bass under the bank muck. My new standard for braid to fluorocarbon 👏🏼👍🏼
nice! was struggling with the fg knot, just tied my 1st one and look's pretty slim, 30 braid to 30 fluro, might be overkill.
Wow I finally found something that I can wrap my head around and make work. Got it on the first try, still haven't hooked a 4 or 5 pound bass on it yet but I'm thinking it will b fine! Thanks a lot
tim justus This knot is used for fifty pound saltwater species. Five pound bass is child's play.
How would this compare to a double Uni-knot for strength? I’m new and curious.
Going to try this out so easy looking n fast especially for night casting
Nice post
I didn't see anything different between the 2 knots? Is the only difference in the number of wrap arounds?
So when people refer to "modified Albright" the actual name is "Alberto" ? Or is that another variation too? Thx!
So - is this just an Albright, but 10 wraps up and 10 wraps down? Just a better "bite" to the line? Looks good!!!
Great video! Thanks for the help
So I used this knot last Thursday and I caught both Moby Dick and the kraken. At the same time. It’s a strong knot. j/k I’m going to start using this a lot.
great knot very good knot strength!
+wickedroy Agreed! I love this one
is this good as well to use with normal line to line ? no braids.. for sok leader knot on surf casting??
How well does it fit through the rod guides?
Will strength of this knot be compromised if tied with a doubled braided main line?
Easy, nice knot, faster and less hassle than the FG
This is a great knot. But... when throwing heavier baits use 7-10 wraps then finish the knot with 2-4 half hitches. Small baits and jigs works great as shown.
Hummm actually I am surprised this holds, because the line you formed the loop with (fluoro) is not tied off. It's just squeezed together by the braid when it's all said and done ..BUT I haven't tried it yet on the water. I have tied it a few times while watching the video. Simple to do. Nice job !
Love it my new knot for big island kayak pole benders Mahalos
Crazy how many thumbs down. I could actually see what was happening in this video. Thanks!
Finally I can actually see what the hell is going on
Lmao
Yes! Can’t see crap with the other videos
Ain't that the trurh
🤣🤣🤣
So, I’m very conflicted about this knot. I used uni to uni forever but was losing large snook with 20 lb test leader. So I moved up to 50 lb, which is too thick for uni to uni. So I was very excited to find this video. But I had mixed results this week. The first time, without a fish, the lure just seemed to work itself loose after a few casts. I assumed I tied it incorrectly. Then, on another rod , I accidentally hooked a 4’ tarpon. (From the bank of a canal, no less!) He jumped and threw my lure, but the knot held. Then, after retying the first line, the small lure worked loose again, no fish, just by casting. And yes, every time, I jerked hard on both ends to test the line before casting. So, I’m left confused. I love this knot, but am getting mixed results. I’d love for someone to tell me what I’m doing wrong.
This knot is also called the royal polaris knot. But is this as strong as a bimini twist to a reverse albright knot ?
otosport I would have to test those knots on a machine, but I really like to use as few knots as possible for the purpose of keeping my leader invisible. A Bimini to reverse Albright is a strong connection for sure, but a big, bulky connection. The Alberto is small, compact and very strong
The FG doesn't slip if done correctly. Some claim the FG is slimmer and stronger. Maybe slimmer, but not sure if it's stronger. I use the Alberto Knot for braid to flourocarbon without any slip or breaking with both 20# braid with 15# flouro, and 50# braid and 25/20# flouro. I've even been snagged on bottom kelp and other plants and broke free pulling more than the line strength. The Alberto's speed is a huge plus and this knot is plenty strong if tied correctly.
The fg is really designed more for heavier lb line. It's better for salt water applications. This knot is for fluoro to braid leaders
@@mrmisterman999 Thanks!
u just changed my life.
The question is can alberto knot can run into the guide smoothly? As compared to the FG knot?
Nothing is as smooth as an FG
Saltwater Experience funny u saw that, my fg yesterday testing it out is getting stuck on the top guide going out
It's pretty good if you get it to tighten properly and trim the tags. I actually use this knot to tie up a tapered leader fly fishing. If you know this knot and a uni, that is pretty much all you need.
Does it easily go through the guides? I'm currently using the double uni knot, which is fine and all but it likes to get caught on the guides.
The best for going through the guides is the GT or FG knot. We have videos on that one too
Excellent, thank you!
Fishing for largemouth bass. I used this knot. I’m using 30lb braid and 2lb Fluoro. Is that to heavy?
it will work but why the 2lb?
I meant 20
@@KingDan gotcha, it'll work fine, uni to uni is my go to for your situation if you don't stick with the alberto.
Ok so what's the difference between the two
do you stick the tag in thru the loop the same way you first went in or opposite??
The same way. I think he shows this.
What are it’s advantages over a uni to uni knot?
Any tips for the best knot for sensitivity?
This is an easy clean knot for fly fishing. I use it to attach the braided backer line to the fly line. Also for the leader line.
He simplified this knot
I used it November got a 100 lb tuna on the boat
Very nice video, thanks.
Would this not damage the guides?
Is the Alberto and RP knot the same ??
Does it work good for braid to braid?
Not my favorite for that application but it can work
Up to what size line will this work with
thanks for this idea
This is my favorite leader knot. If you're using it in a way that it has to pass through your guides, put a drop of super glue at each end and kinda rub it in. You won't even know the knot is there after that
How long should the leader be ?
I've used this one exclusively for 4 years. However, I double the braid and wrap the fluorocarbon around it.
Colin Gorman Double the braid with a bimini or just double over?
***** Nothing extra, I just flip duties of the braid and floro. I double over (make the loop) with the mainline/braid and tie the knot (make the twists/wraps) using the floro. You are doubling the floro and wraping with the braid. I've never thought to try it your way, but now I will. First time I used it bottom fishing, I broke a rod in an attempt to stop a large grouper...
+Colin Gorman اي كلام
which is mono/fluor and which is braid??
how long should my fluoro shock leader be?
I've had the Albright knot fail on me twice, this looks a lot better, I'm going to dot a bit of super glue on it though
so a crazy square knot.
Which ones better, this is the uni to uni knot?
***** They are both good. Tie the one you can tie the fastest and strongest. Have confidence in your knots
Knot wars showed that Alberto is about 5-10% stronger... Also more comfortable for smaller guides...
I like both knots. The Alberto has been very strong and dependable for me so far
It seems to me the Alberto is a smaller profile knot than the Uni to Uni.
awesome video
Nice knot. Much harder when using 8lb flouro though.
Man O Man. super impressive
This is better knot than FG
Great video thx
An overdone sheetbend knot, with a fancy name.
Very useful for braid to fluro or mono. Best if the braid makes the initial loop.
Lost a lot of lures. Double uni more secure. It just release when get wet or smt.. Another minus of this knot it not tolerance for rings
Turbo Hater I had the same problem and was only testing the knot with some lures and came off probably in about 30 casts.
