One of the things that annoy me about DTG (and, to a certain degree, its partners) is that i imagine that most of the people working there want to make a good product (at least i hope so) but are tied down by bad business practices, we know they can do good and they should but they don't. Sorry for the ramble.
If the modelling on the actual trains is anything to go by, there's still some talented people working for DTG. It's just a shame that they've got such a terrible business model.
My aunt suprised me by getting me tsw4 as a gift. She had noticed me play tsw3 many times so decided to get tsw4 even though I had no intention on getting this game whatsoever so I was completely blindsided when I saw it on my game library on my Xbox Series X. At least I didn’t pay for it. I have played this route many times, and it is my favorite of the three core routes. That’s however down to the fact that the ECML is a snoozefest and the Antelope Valley line just doesn't interest me. I'm also not a fan of the Hyundai Cab Car for AVL so I don’t play it much However with that said, I do agree with your review. Whilst the mountain scenery does look nice, many parts of the route do feel rushed which basically sums up tsw4 (just like how the new NY-TRENTON timetable released with issues such as no passengers and very bad suttering amongst other problems) The examples you have shown are downright ridiculous. I do wish that the branch line went to Saint Margrethen station as that is where lines R5 and S3 terminate and is the next stop after Lustenau. Also it isn’t far from Lustenau either. It's only 3 Kilometers away The route also feels dead in some areas. Lindau is a major tourist destination because it is on an island yet the environment feels quiet. The service variety is decent for the most part. The fact that they reused the talent 2 sounds is extremely disappointing. Personally I wouldn’t recommend any of the core routes or TSW 4 in general
For once I'm not faulting DTG on "cutting the route short" The Voralbergbahn does terminate at Bludenz. St Anton is on the Arlberg Pass which is a different line running from Bludenz to Innsbruck. I would however have done the rought slightly different. Extend the S3 line to St Margarethen in the Swiss Canton of St Gallen. Introduce the S2 line from Feldkirch to Buchs in Switzerland, via Vaduz in Liechtenstein. And introduce the S4 line from Bludenz to Schruns in Austria. One DLC, one entire S-Bahn network, 4 countries, 2 of them new to TSW, 1 of them never seen before in a DTG train sim. The S2 line would be about 16km long The S3 line would be extended by 2km The S4 line would be about 11km Making the route in total about 100km total
I find that sound issue incredibly funny. If ÖBB didn't let them record sounds, making realistic sounds impossible (because for whatever strange reason they couldn't be bothered to try to emulate it), why the flying f*** did they still do that route now? There's a ton of routes in Germany and Austria which are fairly interesting and use mostly existing rolling stock, so they would not be as dead as this route. Or just do the route with the Desiro and a Railjet. Also it's really ironic how TSG added the modern 628 for free. Imagine DTG doing that.
I find it very strange that DTG still made the Talent 1 despite being unable to get the right sounds for it, especially since I don't recall this sort of thing ever happening for any previous train. It's a bad look for the Austrian route, especially when it's being included as one of the game's core routes. You would have thought it would prompt Dovetail do to a (slightly) better job compared to the usual releases. As for TSG and their red 628, that was nice of them to add the reskin as a free update. I'll wager that the community would flip if they pulled a Dovetail and tried to sell that reskin (wouldn't be the first time we've seen devs try to flog payware reskins).
I remember driving this route for the very first time and honestly the route just felt dead. Even with the Vectron included its kind of dead. This is most evident at Lindau and along the shores of lake constance. There are people walking around there on the ts version, why not tsw? Great review man
The 4024/4124 actually accelerates like that irl, the train brake isn't really used in normal driving operations, it's only really a fallback if the electronics fail and the speed control doesn't work at all in tsw, there's also at least one light signal that doesn't work like it would irl
I find this route to be quite a disappointment too, not just because of the Talent sounds. It is a nice comcept, but, among problems I have is that I find the cruise control to be rather janky. When you throttle back with the cruise control on, the traction lock goes on and the control turns off, and you have to re activate it manually. Bit of a letdown this route
Another case of not much detail was in penninsula corridor where I followed the tracks that had third rail next (out of curiosity) from Milbrae station, and after a medium sized tunnel, I saw something like an airport in the backround that was not detailed at all. I changed to the exterior camera and saw that the bridge that I was on had absolutely NO support, and at the end of the bridge I fell on to extremely undetailed gravel and my game ended. Nice!
I heard that they only model engine rooms when they absolutely have to. Some locos have the doors not by the cab but leading into the engine room like the taurus or the tgv duplex. and they only made the engine room available to the players up to the door on the tvg, and not any further. Soo....
They didn't need to model the engine room for the ACS-64, and yet they still did. I still find the inconsistent implementation of this feature to be very confusing.
Small detail: yeah, the antelope valley like is boring as hell in the second part but the first part there actually stations and all but the second part is just a slow speed limit and driving for 30 minutes in just pure mountains.
for some reason the high tone horn is hooked to the foot pedal instead of the switch. i wonder if thats why the low doesnt work as it should. also War - Lowrider
Same on the BR 628. Kinda nice to see the foot pedal being utilized, but it sucks that we can’t use the secondary horn unless we manually hover over it on the dashboard.
The 185 does actually drive almost everywhere. But it would be great if the thing just drove as a layer instead of saying it comes with the route so dovetail doesn’t need to make new freight loco’s. At least the vectron is now here finally…
Hey, Trainspotter from Tauranga, I was hoping to get your help on something. I also bought the disappointing TSW 4, and correct me if I'm wrong, but after importing my account and connecting to Dovetail Live, all my trains from TSW 3 should be Imported sadly they haven't been. Is this normal? Have I done something wrong? I would appreciate any help, and thank you for the great review.
That's confusing, since it didn't happen to me. The first time I booted up TSW4, I was prompted to import progress from TSW3, and all add-ons that I previously owned are now available to play in 4. I'm afraid I don't know if I can help you. Perhaps try to contact Dovetail over this situation.
Great video! Yeah I'm so disappointed dovetail can't just listen and sort issues out!!!!! 😤It's like come on you shouldn't just rush things for a deadline I'm sure all of us would prefer a longer wait till release but a really good route! Like take TS classic Birmingham cross city for a start. That was 🤮. It just makes me so angry I'd rather work for dovetail to make it better!
That’s what I thought. There are no traces of the new Lindau mainline station, if it was set in 2019 we would probably see some major construction work there!
From what I've heard the route is apparently set in 2013. Anyways this was a great review l, as I've thought of buying TSW4 in the Austrian edition as I'm not interested in ECML or the Antelope Valley line. At this I don't know if I even want to buy as I originally intended to get it via the Game Pass...but the Clowns in Chatham decided not to make TSW4 available for Game Pass users. I can't even play TSW3 for the same reasons for god's sake. The only thing I'm interested in in TSW4 are the new scenario planner, The BR 193(as I've driven it in a simulator IRL) and Free Roam Mode. But as we know the BR 193 is not being sold separately (correct me if I'm wrong). I was also kinda excited for the Getman-Austrian Route. Now I'm seriously debating whether or not I should get TSW4.
I agree!! Although I do have Sursee and the Flirt imho plays pretty good on this route at least better than the Talent 1 , the 2 is better on here as well imo. Don’t even talk about safety systems 🎉
When I'm on German routes, I always drive with the safety systems disabled. I heard that Luzern to Sursee has ETCS Level 1 in-game, which isn't even realistic for that line.
Flat textures are probably used to lighten the load. The game runs like crap at the best of times that sparse scenery is the best they can do without having it run at 1fps
Yeah I have to say this route isn't that good. Even ignoring the scenery issues, it's just so boring to drive on. You hardly ever see anything besides the Talent 1. Not to mention that it crashes whenever I do anything with the sandbox options. Delete a train or set your own route and it dies. This was definitely rushed to meet a deadline.
I agree with your statement on this route being boring, and I just hope that whatever motive power DTG includes with their next Austrian route will layer onto this one. It sucks when the only new train is made worse by the terrible sounds.
There is another option for passenger train, ig you pick up the Vectron, one of of the options is 8 passengers coaches with it. I use it in my own scenario as fast train between Lindau and Bludenz 🚉😁

The annoying párt about the Talent 1 sounds is that it's not just ÖBB with that model. They could have asked MÁV for it
magyar?

I was really looking forward to this route 😢 DTG are really getting on my nerves now! This is even worse than the absence of the Class 91 on the ECML

I would have shelled all my money if DTG has atleast been as responsible in solving bugs as SCS is
If only SCS could take over dovetail.
