Thanks for the video. Russia is a beautiful country, but some people prefer to live in a reality created by mass media, instead of the real world. It would be great to see some footage from Yaroslavl in your future videos or may be even just photos. Good luck in this new stage of life! Will check your other videos.

You need to stay a bit longer to study life in Russia in order to make a decision of moving here. You need to figure out what you will be doing for living as well. I am Russian, I love my country, but I understand that moving to a different country is a huge step (I lived in the US for 10+ years). You need to learn the language, get used to local life style and mentality, adjust to local climate (long winter, pretty depressing late Fall period with almost no sunny days, sharp change of seasons, etc.). I wish you good luck!
Hey Eric! That would be nice to see more about your life there. I mean your family, environment etc. It's very nice to listen you like this, but it would be much better to see more of your life! Please!:)
Great video! Looking forward to seeing more content. Congratulations on your move. Sounds like a great place with the right values. I wish we had them here.
For me, Russia is the "golden mean". This is the same distance to the ideal and to the worst. It's just a normal country and a normal society. This is the absence of extremes and radical solutions. You can take any aspect of life in Russia and you can say that it is not ideal, but it is just a normal condition that can be improved, but at the same time it is far from the worst examples. This applies to everyday life and politics. Russia, this is normal, with all the minuses and pluses. This is the Golden Mean.
Yep, it indeed can be seen in everything. Even in nature. We have all the seasons that equally divide a year. And we are situated in Eurasia and have perfect balance between east and west, where also different religions that clash in other places in the world coexist side by side for centuries
Conversely if American's feel offended they lawyer up and sue. I have visited many place in all but 2 continents (inhabited continents so 4 out of 6). I cringe if I need to go to the States (not so much Minnesota which reminds me, I have less of a problem going to Toronto not even Anchorage, Alaska. Speaking French is no problem. I was a HUGE fan of the USA growing up until I realize this feeling was not mutual... there are exceptions, I am friends with a handful of American's most of which immigrated. I am an academic but I will say this I have been to many places and make no mistake, Slovakian women are probably the most attractive women in general, yet, smart, educated, feminine but humble and if you look for a partner men, you will understand why I say this, sure there MIGHT be a language barrier but you will be appreciated. Have many friends in that side of the world and this is their testimony. If you look for a country where value culture and quality of character over materialism then consider what I mentioned. In many of these countries healthcare is either free or inexpensive, no need to worry about shots fired, education is also virtually if not completely free. Like I said I completed my Master's in Belgium and yes hard work indeed but to align with EU standards I HAD to. People in the US have misunderstanding about other countries, look down on them and wait until you find out what they have to say about the land of the 'Brave and Free', don't take my word, take it from others, but you won't since this is something Americans do not do. Again, MOST not all.
@@ericpiccione Thanks, but I know since I visited many countries, regardless see where you said "well said" but I commented on another comment, another channel, some 2 days before this and more or less the same comment... reply from an American "you're really lost" (verbatim). Hey Eric, Great video! I'm thinking of visiting Russia sometime soon. How did you feel entering and moving through Russia as an American during wartime? Any tips/advice?
As long as you have nothing to hide you'll be fine I found it a much smoother process to enter than I expected! Just need to have all of your documents in order so there's nothing suspicious that might not add up in your reason for being there.
Which are city are you living in? Usually everybody talks about jow wonferful is ST Petersburg and Moscu but it seems like those cities have a completely different reality so its hard to figure out the real Russia.
SPB and Moscow are Russia, they're fantastic cities and great for many reasons. Personally, we live in Yaroslavl because our family lives here and it made the most sense for us. It doesn't hurt that SPB and Moscow are a short train ride away
@@ericpiccione I bet that they are much better than the average American city, the only cities that I liked were SF and Washington DC. How is the job market? Many people say that there are a lot of jobs in Russia, good quality life, tons of entertainment, clean and safe but countryside sucks and salaries are not good. What do you think? I want to live there but also I'm scared so my second option is Poland
Well, no country or city is perfect. As an American who has been around for decades I have seen changes in the US of A since the 1970s'. Some changes for the better and some changes for the worse. I have never been too Russia so I am not really aware of the change there since the 1970s over there. Here in America I notice an increase in the elderly population, medical care and dental care has become very expensive and we have a out of control immigration problem. Both countries have a foreign policy that leaves something to be desired. America has for the most part mismanaged its economy and government finances for more than 50 years. On a positive note, race relations in America have improved in America over the years but I am not sure if that is the case in Russia. I do believe it really is not right to a certain extant for either country to tell the other one how to run its society.
Definitely, the trajectory in the US is something I can't get behind so I decided to take action before it's too late. To what degree i'm right or wrong, time will tell. But given our unique circumstance, Russia made the most sense for my family and I
In Russia we have a saying, you don't bring your rule book to someone else's monastery. We may think that your way of life is stupid and we indeed will not beat around the bush to share that opinion with you, but that's your choice and we won't force our way of life on you like you arrogantly do to other countries around the world. Our view is that you either adapt to the host place rules or you leave to where you came from if you don't like them. You don't shove your opinion as a minority to everyone's throat and call that democracy
Remembered this sentence from "Woe from Wit" : "Служить бы рад, прислуживаться тошно." - "I am glad to serve, but fawning makes me sick." In Russia they will gladly do something for you, but they will not massage your sholders for a 5 star review.

When does one surpass “living” status all knowing Charles? You make it seem like one can't have an opinion on what they're seeing with their own eyes lol If I walk outside and physically see families walking together or see that people aren't on their phones, am I allowed to make that observation? Or is it "too soon" to come to that conclusion as I haven't been here long enough?
Well, I moved to Moscow from NYC last May and a lot of people like you, Charles, were telling me that any second now I'm going to change my mind, I just haven't seen enough yet. Wrong. I am even happier and chiller now than I was last May, planning my first summer vacation in Sochi:) and watching news from NYC with pain in my heart. Welcome to Russia, Eric! Our country has seen more than 100 years of serious tragedies and hard times - that's the reason why we've still been experiensing a lot of problems in economy, society and politics. In 90s Russia was almost ruined be foreign "influence" to get our land and natural resources at the cheapest price. Putin stopped that and that's the reason why he is so hated in the west. But hard times make good people - that's why russians value so much family, friends, relations, present moment, not distant future, because the future changed so many times in the past:)) That's also the reason why russians don't strive to get the biggest possessions they can - our ancestors lost a lot of possessions and the only thing that helped them was relations with people. Yep, we don't have false smiles on our faces and may seem unfriendly at first, but take some time to talk, tell a joke and a russian is ready to share with you the last piece of what he has:)) We celebrate every american or european immigrating to Russia because over a century we've been told that we are the third sort of people, we should be ashamed of ourselves, we are the nation of criminals and alcoholics living in dramatical poverty - and we completely forgot that we are the nation of great history, culture, strong people with kind hearts, hospitable, ready to help - thank you for reminding us through your eyes what we've got used not to notice about ourselves!!! Every new place takes years to be accustomed to, like any other country Russia has a lot of problematic issues. In some time immigrant euphoria might change into depressive time, but you need to live through this time and you'll see the beauty of "russian soul"!:))) Best luck in your new homeland!))))
@@ericpiccione don't buy into all this family values stuff. a third of russian children are born of single mothers, divorce rate is rampant, and cheating is generally looked up not like in the US where it is a big deal. the same is true about religion. there are plenty of churches but they're empty. the majority of russian are "culturally orthodox" which means atheists who celebrate orthodox or muslim festivals.
Bravo man,............I am really happy to have heard what you said and the way you think and feel about life! Proud of you and other as your self.....! Best wishes!
The bear is the personification of Russia, just as Germania is the personification of Germany and Uncle Sam is the personification of the USA. This is general knowledge that everyone should know.
The mentality is not American, Russians are culturally aware, that Russians are knowledgeable, present in the moment, you've never been happier, you don't need to use a car to get the groceries, Russians are honest to your face. You're not describing Russians as such. You are describing an experience that has taken you out of what you have known before. You could have travelled to Pataginia and made similar observations, obviously peculiar to that region. You are being challenged. I'm sure your American dollars smooth things over.
Serg, I was referring to getting away from what is familiar which places with names like Timbucktoo and Patagonia evoke, places that require you to draw on aspects of yourself you'll never have to if you stay at home, fearful of being challenged.
Eric, you say you are american, from which country in America THE CONTINENT? You surely know that America IS NOT a country, right? You don't know? Well, now you know. The name America was created LONG before any country existed in the newly discovered (so they say) continent, so no country has the right to use it, to appropriate it (to steal it?) from the other people in the continent. If you use the continent's nsme for your own country, that's maybe due to ignorance or perhaps arrogance (hope that's not the case) or perhaps because you have been brainwashed since an early age to believe in something that has no logic. You also call your country "United States of America" but that name implies that it's the ONLY United States in the continent; at present, there are TWO United States in the american continent, in case you didn't know. There were three until a few years ago, but its name was changed. So you see, things are not how you've been told. Think about that the next time you tell your nationality to someone. The rest of the people born on the continent are also americans, since that is not a nationality, just the fact of having been born on the continent. Greetings
But if people from Brazil, Mexico, Peru etc will say that they're Americans, everybody from non-American continents will think that they're from the USA.
@@RusGirlVlog Most of the people from other continents are not aware of this issue. They must begin to understand it and at the same time the people from the USA must face this reality and stop living inside that lie. Otherwise they will continue to be despised by the rest of the continent. I have talked to people from the usa and all of them understood the issue, but it's so deeply ingrained that it took some time to be fully conscious of it. That's why I wroye that it looks like brainwashing. Is it that difficult to understand this? The people from Brazil, Mexico etc KNOW they are americans, the problem did not start there. The issue must be solved at the root and then everyone will know. Personally, I have been to around 22 countries and have faced this situation but once I explained, they understood. In latin america, the people use the word "gringo" to talk about the people from the usa, because they refuse to use any other word. It would be like accepting you are a second class american. This will not be solved overnight, but accepting there is an issue there is a good start. By the way, I have started to learn russian, maybe some day I can write to you in your native language.
We've been considering this move for years now, thank you for your feedback!

Beautifully said
Yep, it indeed can be seen in everything.

Hey Eric, Great video!
I'm thinking of visiting Russia sometime soon. How did you feel entering and moving through Russia as an American during wartime? Any tips/advice?
As long as you have nothing to hide you'll be fine
I found it a much smoother process to enter than I expected! Just need to have all of your documents in order so there's nothing suspicious that might not add up in your reason for being there.

No drugs, no lgbt flag, dont get close to military objects, dont be too loud - youll be fine!! Enjoy Your trip and very much welcome!

Welcome to Russia Eric. All the best to you!
Thank you Svetlana :) Your country has been nothing but welcoming to my family and I :)
But given our unique circumstance, Russia made the most sense for my family and I
Russian people don't try to
teach other countries how to live, it's ”democratic” America that does that to everyone as the most undemocratic thing imaginable.
Not surprised democratic yt didn't want to post this comment 😊
Remembered this sentence from "Woe from Wit" :
"Служить бы рад, прислуживаться тошно." -
"I am glad to serve, but fawning makes me sick."

Hello eric!
Hey Demarco!
Ukrainians in comments are mighty mad, lmao
Good for you.
You've been there a week. You haven't been "living in Russia". You've been visiting.
When does one surpass “living” status all knowing Charles?
You make it seem like one can't have an opinion on what they're seeing with their own eyes lol
If I walk outside and physically see families walking together or see that people aren't on their phones, am I allowed to make that observation?
Or is it "too soon" to come to that conclusion as I haven't been here long enough?
Well, I moved to Moscow from NYC last May and a lot of people like you, Charles, were telling me that any second now I'm going to change my mind, I just haven't seen enough yet. Wrong. I am even happier and chiller now than I was last May, planning my first summer vacation in Sochi:) and watching news from NYC with pain in my heart. I get confirmation every single day that I made the right choice to leave.

Yep, we don't have false smiles on our faces and may seem unfriendly at first, but take some time to talk, tell a joke and a russian is ready to share with you the last piece of what he has:))
We celebrate every american or european immigrating to Russia because over a century we've been told that we are the third sort of people, we should be ashamed of ourselves, we are the nation of criminals and alcoholics living in dramatical poverty - and we completely forgot that we are the nation of great history, culture, strong people with kind hearts, hospitable, ready to help - thank you for reminding us through your eyes what we've got used not to notice about ourselves!!!
Every new place takes years to be accustomed to, like any other country Russia has a lot of problematic issues. In some time immigrant euphoria might change into depressive time, but you need to live through this time and you'll see the beauty of "russian soul"!:))) Best luck in your new homeland!))))
Very well said, thank you and really looking forward to the future here!

👍
Russia has its own patagonia with Russian Indians riding polar bears. You don't have to go anywhere.
Serg, I was referring to getting away from what is familiar which places with names like Timbucktoo and Patagonia evoke, places that require you to draw on aspects of yourself you'll never have to if you stay at home, fearful of being challenged.

Omg, so many bots. Just keep blocking them, Eric!
Haha, it's not worth the time responding to them because it doesn't change things but I do it anyway

Greetings
Sounds good, appreciate the feedback
